۞ وَمِنْ And from wamin (the) People ahli (of) the Book l-kitābi (is he) who man if in you entrust him tamanhu with a great amount of wealth biqinṭārin he will return it yu-addihi to you ilayka And from them wamin'hum (is he) who man if in you entrust him tamanhu with a single coin bidīnārin not lā he will return it yu-addihi to you ilayka except illā that mā you keep constantly dum'ta over him ʿalayhi standing qāiman That dhālika (is) because they bi-annahum said qālū Not laysa on us ʿalaynā concerning fī the unlettered people l-umiyīna any [way] (accountability) sabīlun And they say wayaqūlūna about ʿalā Allah l-lahi the lie l-kadhiba while they wahum know yaʿlamūna
And among the People of the Scripture is he who, if you entrust him with a great amount [of wealth], he will return it to you. And among them is he who, if you entrust him with a [single] coin, he will not return it to you unless you are constantly standing over him [demanding it]. That is because they say, "There is no blame upon us concerning the unlearned."1 And they speak untruth about Allāh while they know [it].
