وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad We tried fatannā Sulaiman sulaymāna and We placed wa-alqaynā on ʿalā his throne kur'siyyihi a body jasadan then thumma he turned anāba
And We certainly tried Solomon and placed on his throne a body; then he returned.
قَالَ He said qāla O my Lord rabbi Forgive igh'fir me lī and grant wahab me lī a kingdom mul'kan not lā (will) belong yanbaghī to anyone li-aḥadin after me min after me baʿdī Indeed, You innaka [You] anta (are) the Bestower l-wahābu
He said, "My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower."
فَسَخَّرْنَا Then We subjected fasakharnā to him lahu the wind l-rīḥa to flow tajrī by his command bi-amrihi gently rukhāan wherever ḥaythu he directed aṣāba
So We subjected to him the wind blowing by his command, gently, wherever he directed,
وَٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ And the devils wal-shayāṭīna every kulla builder bannāin and diver waghawwāṣin
And [also] the devils [of jinn] - every builder and diver.
وَءَاخَرِينَ And others waākharīna bound muqarranīna in fī chains l-aṣfādi
And others bound together in irons.
هَـٰذَا This hādhā (is) Our gift ʿaṭāunā so grant fa-um'nun or aw withhold amsik without bighayri account ḥisābin
[We said], "This is Our gift, so grant or withhold without account."
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna for him lahu with Us ʿindanā surely is a near access lazul'fā and a good waḥus'na place of return maābin
And indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.
