Saad

sad

وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ

By the Quran

wal-qur'āni

ذِى

full (of) reminder

dhī

ٱلذِّكْرِ

full (of) reminder

— Saheeh International

بَلِ

Nay

bali

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

فِى

(are) in

عِزَّةٍۢ

self-glory

ʿizzatin

وَشِقَاقٍۢ

and opposition

washiqāqin

٢

But those who disbelieve are in pride and dissension.

— Saheeh International

كَمْ

How many

kam

أَهْلَكْنَا

We destroyed

ahlaknā

مِن

before them

min

قَبْلِهِم

before them

qablihim

مِّن

of

min

قَرْنٍۢ

a generation

qarnin

فَنَادَوا۟

then they called out

fanādaw

وَّلَاتَ

when there (was) no longer

walāta

حِينَ

time

ḥīna

مَنَاصٍۢ

(for) escape

manāṣin

٣

How many a generation have We destroyed before them, and they [then] called out; but it was not a time for escape.

— Saheeh International

وَعَجِبُوٓا۟

And they wonder

waʿajibū

أَن

that

an

جَآءَهُم

has come to them

jāahum

مُّنذِرٌۭ

a warner

mundhirun

مِّنْهُمْ ۖ

from themselves

min'hum

وَقَالَ

And said

waqāla

ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ

the disbelievers

l-kāfirūna

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

سَـٰحِرٌۭ

(is) a magician

sāḥirun

كَذَّابٌ

a liar

kadhābun

٤

And they wonder that there has come to them a warner [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, "This is a magician and a liar.

— Saheeh International

أَجَعَلَ

Has he made

ajaʿala

ٱلْـَٔالِهَةَ

the gods

l-ālihata

إِلَـٰهًۭا

(into) one god

ilāhan

وَٰحِدًا ۖ

(into) one god

wāḥidan

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

لَشَىْءٌ

(is) certainly a thing

lashayon

عُجَابٌۭ

curious

ʿujābun

٥

Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing."

— Saheeh International

وَٱنطَلَقَ

And went forth

wa-inṭalaqa

ٱلْمَلَأُ

the chiefs

l-mala-u

مِنْهُمْ

among them

min'hum

أَنِ

that

ani

ٱمْشُوا۟

Continue

im'shū

وَٱصْبِرُوا۟

and be patient

wa-iṣ'birū

عَلَىٰٓ

over

ʿalā

ءَالِهَتِكُمْ ۖ

your gods

ālihatikum

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

لَشَىْءٌۭ

(is) certainly a thing

lashayon

يُرَادُ

intended

yurādu

٦

And the eminent among them went forth, [saying], "Continue, and be patient over [the defense of] your gods. Indeed, this is a thing intended.1

— Saheeh International

مَا

Not

سَمِعْنَا

we heard

samiʿ'nā

بِهَـٰذَا

of this

bihādhā

فِى

in

ٱلْمِلَّةِ

the religion

l-milati

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

the last

l-ākhirati

إِنْ

Not

in

هَـٰذَآ

(is) this

hādhā

إِلَّا

but

illā

ٱخْتِلَـٰقٌ

a fabrication

ikh'tilāqun

٧

We have not heard of this in the latest religion.1 This is not but a fabrication.

— Saheeh International

أَءُنزِلَ

Has been revealed

a-unzila

عَلَيْهِ

to him

ʿalayhi

ٱلذِّكْرُ

the Message

l-dhik'ru

مِنۢ

from

min

بَيْنِنَا ۚ

among us

bayninā

بَلْ

Nay

bal

هُمْ

They

hum

فِى

(are) in

شَكٍّۢ

doubt

shakkin

مِّن

about

min

ذِكْرِى ۖ

My Message

dhik'rī

بَل

Nay

bal

لَّمَّا

not yet

lammā

يَذُوقُوا۟

they have tasted

yadhūqū

عَذَابِ

My punishment

ʿadhābi

٨

Has the message been revealed to him out of [all of] us?" Rather, they are in doubt about My message. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment.

— Saheeh International

أَمْ

Or

am

عِندَهُمْ

have they

ʿindahum

خَزَآئِنُ

(the) treasures

khazāinu

رَحْمَةِ

(of the) Mercy

raḥmati

رَبِّكَ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

ٱلْعَزِيزِ

the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzi

ٱلْوَهَّابِ

the Bestower

l-wahābi

٩

Or do they have the depositories of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower?1

— Saheeh International

أَمْ

Or

am

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مُّلْكُ

(is the) dominion

mul'ku

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَمَا

and whatever

wamā

بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ

(is) between them

baynahumā

فَلْيَرْتَقُوا۟

Then let them ascend

falyartaqū

فِى

by

ٱلْأَسْبَـٰبِ

the means

l-asbābi

١٠

Or is theirs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and what is between them? Then let them ascend through [any] ways of access.1

— Saheeh International

جُندٌۭ

Soldiers

jundun

مَّا

there

هُنَالِكَ

there

hunālika

مَهْزُومٌۭ

(they will be) defeated

mahzūmun

مِّنَ

among

mina

ٱلْأَحْزَابِ

the companies

l-aḥzābi

١١

[They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers].

— Saheeh International

كَذَّبَتْ

Denied

kadhabat

قَبْلَهُمْ

before them

qablahum

قَوْمُ

(the) people

qawmu

نُوحٍۢ

(of) Nuh

nūḥin

وَعَادٌۭ

and Aad

waʿādun

وَفِرْعَوْنُ

and Firaun

wafir'ʿawnu

ذُو

(the) owner

dhū

ٱلْأَوْتَادِ

(of) the stakes

l-awtādi

١٢

The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] ʿAad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes,1

— Saheeh International

وَثَمُودُ

And Thamud

wathamūdu

وَقَوْمُ

and (the) people

waqawmu

لُوطٍۢ

(of) Lut

lūṭin

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ

and (the) companions

wa-aṣḥābu

لْـَٔيْكَةِ ۚ

(of) the wood

al'aykati

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

ٱلْأَحْزَابُ

(were) the companies

l-aḥzābu

١٣

And [the tribe of] Thamūd and the people of Lot and the companions of the thicket [i.e., people of Madyan]. Those are the companies.1

— Saheeh International

إِن

Not

in

كُلٌّ

all (of them)

kullun

إِلَّا

but

illā

كَذَّبَ

denied

kadhaba

ٱلرُّسُلَ

the Messengers

l-rusula

فَحَقَّ

so (was) just

faḥaqqa

عِقَابِ

My penalty

ʿiqābi

١٤

Each of them denied the messengers, so My penalty was justified.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

يَنظُرُ

await

yanẓuru

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

these

hāulāi

إِلَّا

but

illā

صَيْحَةًۭ

a shout

ṣayḥatan

وَٰحِدَةًۭ

one

wāḥidatan

مَّا

not

لَهَا

for it

lahā

مِن

any

min

فَوَاقٍۢ

delay

fawāqin

١٥

And these [disbelievers] await not but one blast [of the Horn]; for it there will be no delay.1

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوا۟

And they say

waqālū

رَبَّنَا

Our Lord

rabbanā

عَجِّل

Hasten

ʿajjil

لَّنَا

for us

lanā

قِطَّنَا

our share

qiṭṭanā

قَبْلَ

before

qabla

يَوْمِ

(the) Day

yawmi

ٱلْحِسَابِ

(of) the Account

l-ḥisābi

١٦

And they say, "Our Lord, hasten for us our share [of the punishment] before the Day of Account."

— Saheeh International

ٱصْبِرْ

Be patient

iṣ'bir

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

مَا

what

يَقُولُونَ

they say

yaqūlūna

وَٱذْكُرْ

and remember

wa-udh'kur

عَبْدَنَا

Our slave

ʿabdanā

دَاوُۥدَ

Dawood

dāwūda

ذَا

the possessor of strength

dhā

ٱلْأَيْدِ ۖ

the possessor of strength

l-aydi

إِنَّهُۥٓ

Indeed, he (was)

innahu

أَوَّابٌ

repeatedly turning

awwābun

١٧

Be patient over what they say and remember Our servant, David, the possessor of strength; indeed, he was one who repeatedly turned back [to Allāh].

— Saheeh International

إِنَّا

Indeed, We

innā

سَخَّرْنَا

subjected

sakharnā

ٱلْجِبَالَ

the mountains

l-jibāla

مَعَهُۥ

with him

maʿahu

يُسَبِّحْنَ

glorifying

yusabbiḥ'na

بِٱلْعَشِىِّ

in the evening

bil-ʿashiyi

وَٱلْإِشْرَاقِ

and [the] sunrise

wal-ish'rāqi

١٨

Indeed, We subjected the mountains [to praise] with him, exalting [Allāh] in the [late] afternoon and [after] sunrise.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلطَّيْرَ

And the birds

wal-ṭayra

مَحْشُورَةًۭ ۖ

assembled

maḥshūratan

كُلٌّۭ

all

kullun

لَّهُۥٓ

with him

lahu

أَوَّابٌۭ

repeatedly turning

awwābun

١٩

And the birds were assembled, all with him repeating [praises].

— Saheeh International

وَشَدَدْنَا

And We strengthened

washadadnā

مُلْكَهُۥ

his kingdom

mul'kahu

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ

and We gave him

waātaynāhu

ٱلْحِكْمَةَ

[the] wisdom

l-ḥik'mata

وَفَصْلَ

and decisive

wafaṣla

ٱلْخِطَابِ

speech

l-khiṭābi

٢٠

And We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and discernment in speech.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَهَلْ

And has (there)

wahal

أَتَىٰكَ

come to you

atāka

نَبَؤُا۟

(the) news

naba-u

ٱلْخَصْمِ

(of) the litigants

l-khaṣmi

إِذْ

when

idh

تَسَوَّرُوا۟

they climbed over the wall

tasawwarū

ٱلْمِحْرَابَ

(of) the chamber

l-miḥ'rāba

٢١

And has there come to you the news of the adversaries, when they climbed over the wall of [his] prayer chamber -

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

دَخَلُوا۟

they entered

dakhalū

عَلَىٰ

upon

ʿalā

دَاوُۥدَ

Dawood

dāwūda

فَفَزِعَ

and he was afraid

fafaziʿa

مِنْهُمْ ۖ

of them

min'hum

قَالُوا۟

they said

qālū

لَا

(Do) not

تَخَفْ ۖ

fear

takhaf

خَصْمَانِ

(We are) two litigants

khaṣmāni

بَغَىٰ

has wronged

baghā

بَعْضُنَا

one of us

baʿḍunā

عَلَىٰ

to

ʿalā

بَعْضٍۢ

another

baʿḍin

فَٱحْكُم

so judge

fa-uḥ'kum

بَيْنَنَا

between us

baynanā

بِٱلْحَقِّ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تُشْطِطْ

be unjust

tush'ṭiṭ

وَٱهْدِنَآ

and guide us

wa-ih'dinā

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

سَوَآءِ

an even

sawāi

ٱلصِّرَٰطِ

[the] path

l-ṣirāṭi

٢٢

When they entered upon David and he was alarmed by them? They said, "Fear not. [We are] two adversaries, one of whom has wronged the other, so judge between us with truth and do not exceed [it] and guide us to the sound path.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

هَـٰذَآ

this

hādhā

أَخِى

(is) my brother

akhī

لَهُۥ

he has

lahu

تِسْعٌۭ

ninety-nine

tis'ʿun

وَتِسْعُونَ

ninety-nine

watis'ʿūna

نَعْجَةًۭ

ewe(s)

naʿjatan

وَلِىَ

while I have

waliya

نَعْجَةٌۭ

ewe

naʿjatun

وَٰحِدَةٌۭ

one

wāḥidatun

فَقَالَ

so he said

faqāla

أَكْفِلْنِيهَا

Entrust her to me

akfil'nīhā

وَعَزَّنِى

and he overpowered me

waʿazzanī

فِى

in

ٱلْخِطَابِ

[the] speech

l-khiṭābi

٢٣

Indeed this, my brother, has ninety-nine ewes, and I have one ewe; so he said, 'Entrust her to me,' and he overpowered me in speech."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

لَقَدْ

Certainly

laqad

ظَلَمَكَ

he has wronged you

ẓalamaka

بِسُؤَالِ

by demanding

bisuāli

نَعْجَتِكَ

your ewe

naʿjatika

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

نِعَاجِهِۦ ۖ

his ewes

niʿājihi

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

كَثِيرًۭا

many

kathīran

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلْخُلَطَآءِ

the partners

l-khulaṭāi

لَيَبْغِى

certainly oppress

layabghī

بَعْضُهُمْ

some of them

baʿḍuhum

عَلَىٰ

[on]

ʿalā

بَعْضٍ

another

baʿḍin

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and do

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

وَقَلِيلٌۭ

and few

waqalīlun

مَّا

(are) they

هُمْ ۗ

(are) they

hum

وَظَنَّ

And became certain

waẓanna

دَاوُۥدُ

Dawood

dāwūdu

أَنَّمَا

that

annamā

فَتَنَّـٰهُ

We (had) tried him

fatannāhu

فَٱسْتَغْفَرَ

and he asked forgiveness

fa-is'taghfara

رَبَّهُۥ

(of) his Lord

rabbahu

وَخَرَّ

and fell down

wakharra

رَاكِعًۭا

bowing

rākiʿan

وَأَنَابَ ۩

and turned in repentance

wa-anāba

٢٤

[David] said, "He has certainly wronged you in demanding your ewe [in addition] to his ewes. And indeed, many associates oppress one another, except for those who believe and do righteous deeds - and few are they." And David became certain that We had tried him, and he asked forgiveness of his Lord1 and fell down bowing [in prostration] and turned in repentance [to Allāh].

— Saheeh International

فَغَفَرْنَا

So We forgave

faghafarnā

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

ذَٰلِكَ ۖ

that

dhālika

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

عِندَنَا

with Us

ʿindanā

لَزُلْفَىٰ

surely is a near access

lazul'fā

وَحُسْنَ

and a good

waḥus'na

مَـَٔابٍۢ

place of return

maābin

٢٥

So We forgave him that; and indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰدَاوُۥدُ

O Dawood

yādāwūdu

إِنَّا

Indeed, We

innā

جَعَلْنَـٰكَ

[We] have made you

jaʿalnāka

خَلِيفَةًۭ

a vicegerent

khalīfatan

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

فَٱحْكُم

so judge

fa-uḥ'kum

بَيْنَ

between

bayna

ٱلنَّاسِ

[the] men

l-nāsi

بِٱلْحَقِّ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تَتَّبِعِ

follow

tattabiʿi

ٱلْهَوَىٰ

the desire

l-hawā

فَيُضِلَّكَ

for it will lead you astray

fayuḍillaka

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَضِلُّونَ

go astray

yaḍillūna

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

عَذَابٌۭ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

شَدِيدٌۢ

severe

shadīdun

بِمَا

because

bimā

نَسُوا۟

they forgot

nasū

يَوْمَ

(the) Day

yawma

ٱلْحِسَابِ

(of) Account

l-ḥisābi

٢٦

[We said], "O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people in truth and do not follow [your own] desire, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allāh." Indeed, those who go astray from the way of Allāh will have a severe punishment for having forgotten the Day of Account.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

خَلَقْنَا

We created

khalaqnā

ٱلسَّمَآءَ

the heaven

l-samāa

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

وَمَا

and whatever

wamā

بَيْنَهُمَا

(is) between them

baynahumā

بَـٰطِلًۭا ۚ

without purpose

bāṭilan

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

ظَنُّ

(is the) assumption

ẓannu

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ

disbelieve

kafarū

فَوَيْلٌۭ

So woe

fawaylun

لِّلَّذِينَ

to those

lilladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

who disbelieve

kafarū

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلنَّارِ

the Fire

l-nāri

٢٧

And We did not create the heaven and the earth and that between them aimlessly. That is the assumption of those who disbelieve, so woe to those who disbelieve from the Fire.

— Saheeh International

أَمْ

Or

am

نَجْعَلُ

should We treat

najʿalu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and do

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

كَٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ

like those who spread corruption

kal-muf'sidīna

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

أَمْ

Or

am

نَجْعَلُ

should We treat

najʿalu

ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

the pious

l-mutaqīna

كَٱلْفُجَّارِ

like the wicked

kal-fujāri

٢٨

Or should We treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like corrupters in the land? Or should We treat those who fear Allāh like the wicked?

— Saheeh International

كِتَـٰبٌ

(This is) a Book

kitābun

أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ

We have revealed it

anzalnāhu

إِلَيْكَ

to you

ilayka

مُبَـٰرَكٌۭ

blessed

mubārakun

لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓا۟

that they may ponder

liyaddabbarū

ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ

(over) its Verses

āyātihi

وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ

and may be reminded

waliyatadhakkara

أُو۟لُوا۟

those of understanding

ulū

ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ

those of understanding

l-albābi

٢٩

[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.

— Saheeh International

وَوَهَبْنَا

And We gave

wawahabnā

لِدَاوُۥدَ

to Dawood

lidāwūda

سُلَيْمَـٰنَ ۚ

Sulaiman

sulaymāna

نِعْمَ

an excellent

niʿ'ma

ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ

slave

l-ʿabdu

إِنَّهُۥٓ

Indeed, he

innahu

أَوَّابٌ

(was) one who repeatedly turned

awwābun

٣٠

And to David We gave Solomon. An excellent servant, indeed he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allāh].

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

عُرِضَ

were displayed

ʿuriḍa

عَلَيْهِ

to him

ʿalayhi

بِٱلْعَشِىِّ

in the afternoon

bil-ʿashiyi

ٱلصَّـٰفِنَـٰتُ

excellent bred steeds

l-ṣāfinātu

ٱلْجِيَادُ

excellent bred steeds

l-jiyādu

٣١

[Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses.

— Saheeh International

فَقَالَ

And he said

faqāla

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed, I

innī

أَحْبَبْتُ

[I] preferred

aḥbabtu

حُبَّ

(the) love

ḥubba

ٱلْخَيْرِ

(of) the good

l-khayri

عَن

over

ʿan

ذِكْرِ

(the) remembrance

dhik'ri

رَبِّى

(of) my Lord

rabbī

حَتَّىٰ

Until

ḥattā

تَوَارَتْ

they were hidden

tawārat

بِٱلْحِجَابِ

in the veil

bil-ḥijābi

٣٢

And he said, "Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord until it [i.e., the sun] disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]."

— Saheeh International

رُدُّوهَا

Return them

ruddūhā

عَلَىَّ ۖ

to me

ʿalayya

فَطَفِقَ

Then he began

faṭafiqa

مَسْحًۢا

(to) pass (his hand)

masḥan

بِٱلسُّوقِ

over the legs

bil-sūqi

وَٱلْأَعْنَاقِ

and the necks

wal-aʿnāqi

٣٣

[He said], "Return them to me," and set about striking1 [their] legs and necks.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

فَتَنَّا

We tried

fatannā

سُلَيْمَـٰنَ

Sulaiman

sulaymāna

وَأَلْقَيْنَا

and We placed

wa-alqaynā

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

كُرْسِيِّهِۦ

his throne

kur'siyyihi

جَسَدًۭا

a body

jasadan

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

أَنَابَ

he turned

anāba

٣٤

And We certainly tried Solomon and placed on his throne a body;1 then he returned.2

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

رَبِّ

O my Lord

rabbi

ٱغْفِرْ

Forgive

igh'fir

لِى

me

وَهَبْ

and grant

wahab

لِى

me

مُلْكًۭا

a kingdom

mul'kan

لَّا

not

يَنۢبَغِى

(will) belong

yanbaghī

لِأَحَدٍۢ

to anyone

li-aḥadin

مِّنۢ

after me

min

بَعْدِىٓ ۖ

after me

baʿdī

إِنَّكَ

Indeed, You

innaka

أَنتَ

[You]

anta

ٱلْوَهَّابُ

(are) the Bestower

l-wahābu

٣٥

He said, "My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower."

— Saheeh International

فَسَخَّرْنَا

Then We subjected

fasakharnā

لَهُ

to him

lahu

ٱلرِّيحَ

the wind

l-rīḥa

تَجْرِى

to flow

tajrī

بِأَمْرِهِۦ

by his command

bi-amrihi

رُخَآءً

gently

rukhāan

حَيْثُ

wherever

ḥaythu

أَصَابَ

he directed

aṣāba

٣٦

So We subjected to him the wind blowing by his command, gently, wherever he directed,

— Saheeh International

وَٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ

And the devils

wal-shayāṭīna

كُلَّ

every

kulla

بَنَّآءٍۢ

builder

bannāin

وَغَوَّاصٍۢ

and diver

waghawwāṣin

٣٧

And [also] the devils [of jinn] - every builder and diver.

— Saheeh International

وَءَاخَرِينَ

And others

waākharīna

مُقَرَّنِينَ

bound

muqarranīna

فِى

in

ٱلْأَصْفَادِ

chains

l-aṣfādi

٣٨

And others bound together in irons.

— Saheeh International

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

عَطَآؤُنَا

(is) Our gift

ʿaṭāunā

فَٱمْنُنْ

so grant

fa-um'nun

أَوْ

or

aw

أَمْسِكْ

withhold

amsik

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

حِسَابٍۢ

account

ḥisābin

٣٩

[We said], "This is Our gift, so grant or withhold without account."

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

عِندَنَا

with Us

ʿindanā

لَزُلْفَىٰ

surely is a near access

lazul'fā

وَحُسْنَ

and a good

waḥus'na

مَـَٔابٍۢ

place of return

maābin

٤٠

And indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.

— Saheeh International

وَٱذْكُرْ

And remember

wa-udh'kur

عَبْدَنَآ

Our slave

ʿabdanā

أَيُّوبَ

Ayyub

ayyūba

إِذْ

when

idh

نَادَىٰ

he called

nādā

رَبَّهُۥٓ

his Lord

rabbahu

أَنِّى

That [I]

annī

مَسَّنِىَ

(has) touched me

massaniya

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ

Shaitaan

l-shayṭānu

بِنُصْبٍۢ

with distress

binuṣ'bin

وَعَذَابٍ

and suffering

waʿadhābin

٤١

And remember Our servant Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, Satan has touched me with hardship and torment."

— Saheeh International

ٱرْكُضْ

Strike

ur'kuḍ

بِرِجْلِكَ ۖ

with your foot

birij'lika

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

مُغْتَسَلٌۢ

(is a spring of) water to bathe

mugh'tasalun

بَارِدٌۭ

cool

bāridun

وَشَرَابٌۭ

and a drink

washarābun

٤٢

[So he was told], "Strike [the ground] with your foot; this is a [spring for a] cool bath and drink."

— Saheeh International

وَوَهَبْنَا

And We granted

wawahabnā

لَهُۥٓ

[to] him

lahu

أَهْلَهُۥ

his family

ahlahu

وَمِثْلَهُم

and a like of them

wamith'lahum

مَّعَهُمْ

with them

maʿahum

رَحْمَةًۭ

a Mercy

raḥmatan

مِّنَّا

from Us

minnā

وَذِكْرَىٰ

and a Reminder

wadhik'rā

لِأُو۟لِى

for those of understanding

li-ulī

ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ

for those of understanding

l-albābi

٤٣

And We granted him his family and a like [number] with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for those of understanding.

— Saheeh International

وَخُذْ

And take

wakhudh

بِيَدِكَ

in your hand

biyadika

ضِغْثًۭا

a bunch

ḍigh'than

فَٱضْرِب

and strike

fa-iḍ'rib

بِّهِۦ

with it

bihi

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تَحْنَثْ ۗ

break (your) oath

taḥnath

إِنَّا

Indeed, We

innā

وَجَدْنَـٰهُ

[We] found him

wajadnāhu

صَابِرًۭا ۚ

patient

ṣābiran

نِّعْمَ

an excellent

niʿ'ma

ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ

slave

l-ʿabdu

إِنَّهُۥٓ

Indeed, he

innahu

أَوَّابٌۭ

repeatedly turned

awwābun

٤٤

[We said], "And take in your hand a bunch [of grass] and strike with it and do not break your oath."1 Indeed, We found him patient, an excellent servant. Indeed, he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allāh].

— Saheeh International

وَٱذْكُرْ

And remember

wa-udh'kur

عِبَـٰدَنَآ

Our slaves

ʿibādanā

إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

وَإِسْحَـٰقَ

and Isaac

wa-is'ḥāqa

وَيَعْقُوبَ

and Ayyub

wayaʿqūba

أُو۟لِى

possessors

ulī

ٱلْأَيْدِى

(of) strength

l-aydī

وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ

and vision

wal-abṣāri

٤٥

And remember Our servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - those of strength and [religious] vision.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّآ

Indeed, We

innā

أَخْلَصْنَـٰهُم

[We] chose them

akhlaṣnāhum

بِخَالِصَةٍۢ

for an exclusive (quality)

bikhāliṣatin

ذِكْرَى

remembrance

dhik'rā

ٱلدَّارِ

(of) the Home

l-dāri

٤٦

Indeed, We chose them for an exclusive quality: remembrance of the home [of the Hereafter].

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّهُمْ

And indeed, they

wa-innahum

عِندَنَا

to Us

ʿindanā

لَمِنَ

(are) from

lamina

ٱلْمُصْطَفَيْنَ

the chosen ones

l-muṣ'ṭafayna

ٱلْأَخْيَارِ

the best

l-akhyāri

٤٧

And indeed they are, to Us, among the chosen and outstanding.

— Saheeh International

وَٱذْكُرْ

And remember

wa-udh'kur

إِسْمَـٰعِيلَ

Ishmael

is'māʿīla

وَٱلْيَسَعَ

and Elisha

wal-yasaʿa

وَذَا

and Dhul-kifl

wadhā

ٱلْكِفْلِ ۖ

and Dhul-kifl

l-kif'li

وَكُلٌّۭ

and all

wakullun

مِّنَ

(are) from

mina

ٱلْأَخْيَارِ

the best

l-akhyāri

٤٨

And remember Ishmael, Elisha and Dhul-Kifl, and all are among the outstanding.

— Saheeh International

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

ذِكْرٌۭ ۚ

(is) a Reminder

dhik'run

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

for the righteous

lil'muttaqīna

لَحُسْنَ

surely, is a good

laḥus'na

مَـَٔابٍۢ

place of return

maābin

٤٩

This is a reminder. And indeed, for the righteous is a good place of return -

— Saheeh International

جَنَّـٰتِ

Gardens

jannāti

عَدْنٍۢ

(of) Eternity

ʿadnin

مُّفَتَّحَةًۭ

(will be) opened

mufattaḥatan

لَّهُمُ

for them

lahumu

ٱلْأَبْوَٰبُ

the gates

l-abwābu

٥٠

Gardens of perpetual residence, whose doors will be opened to them.

— Saheeh International

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ

Reclining

muttakiīna

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

يَدْعُونَ

they will call

yadʿūna

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

بِفَـٰكِهَةٍۢ

for fruit

bifākihatin

كَثِيرَةٍۢ

many

kathīratin

وَشَرَابٍۢ

and drink

washarābin

٥١

Reclining within them, they will call therein for abundant fruit and drink.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَعِندَهُمْ

And with them

waʿindahum

قَـٰصِرَٰتُ

(will be) companions of modest gaze

qāṣirātu

ٱلطَّرْفِ

(will be) companions of modest gaze

l-ṭarfi

أَتْرَابٌ

well-matched

atrābun

٥٢

And with them will be women limiting [their] glances1 and of equal age.

— Saheeh International

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

مَا

(is) what

تُوعَدُونَ

you are promised

tūʿadūna

لِيَوْمِ

for (the) Day

liyawmi

ٱلْحِسَابِ

(of) Account

l-ḥisābi

٥٣

This is what you, [the righteous], are promised for the Day of Account.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

لَرِزْقُنَا

(is) surely Our provision

lariz'qunā

مَا

not

لَهُۥ

for it

lahu

مِن

any

min

نَّفَادٍ

depletion

nafādin

٥٤

Indeed, this is Our provision; for it there is no depletion.

— Saheeh International

هَـٰذَا ۚ

This (is so)

hādhā

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

لِلطَّـٰغِينَ

for the transgressors

lilṭṭāghīna

لَشَرَّ

surely (is) an evil

lasharra

مَـَٔابٍۢ

place of return

maābin

٥٥

This [is so]. But indeed, for the transgressors is an evil place of return -

— Saheeh International

جَهَنَّمَ

Hell

jahannama

يَصْلَوْنَهَا

they will burn therein

yaṣlawnahā

فَبِئْسَ

and wretched (is)

fabi'sa

ٱلْمِهَادُ

the resting place

l-mihādu

٥٦

Hell, which they will [enter to] burn, and wretched is the resting place.

— Saheeh International

هَـٰذَا

This (is so)

hādhā

فَلْيَذُوقُوهُ

Then let them taste it

falyadhūqūhu

حَمِيمٌۭ

boiling fluid

ḥamīmun

وَغَسَّاقٌۭ

and purulence

waghassāqun

٥٧

This - so let them taste it - is scalding water and [foul] purulence.

— Saheeh International

وَءَاخَرُ

And other

waākharu

مِن

of

min

شَكْلِهِۦٓ

its type

shaklihi

أَزْوَٰجٌ

(of various) kinds

azwājun

٥٨

And other [punishments] of its type [in various] kinds.

— Saheeh International

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

فَوْجٌۭ

(is) a company

fawjun

مُّقْتَحِمٌۭ

bursting

muq'taḥimun

مَّعَكُمْ ۖ

(in) with you

maʿakum

لَا

No

مَرْحَبًۢا

welcome

marḥaban

بِهِمْ ۚ

for them

bihim

إِنَّهُمْ

Indeed, they

innahum

صَالُوا۟

(will) burn

ṣālū

ٱلنَّارِ

(in) the Fire

l-nāri

٥٩

[Its inhabitants will say], "This is a company bursting in with you. No welcome for them. Indeed, they will burn in the Fire."

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They say

qālū

بَلْ

Nay

bal

أَنتُمْ

You

antum

لَا

no

مَرْحَبًۢا

welcome

marḥaban

بِكُمْ ۖ

for you

bikum

أَنتُمْ

You

antum

قَدَّمْتُمُوهُ

brought this

qaddamtumūhu

لَنَا ۖ

upon us

lanā

فَبِئْسَ

So wretched (is)

fabi'sa

ٱلْقَرَارُ

the settlement

l-qarāru

٦٠

They will say, "Nor you! No welcome for you. You, [our leaders], brought this upon us, and wretched is the settlement."

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They will say

qālū

رَبَّنَا

Our Lord

rabbanā

مَن

whoever

man

قَدَّمَ

brought

qaddama

لَنَا

upon us

lanā

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

فَزِدْهُ

increase for him

fazid'hu

عَذَابًۭا

a punishment

ʿadhāban

ضِعْفًۭا

double

ḍiʿ'fan

فِى

in

ٱلنَّارِ

the Fire

l-nāri

٦١

They will say, "Our Lord, whoever brought this upon us - increase for him double punishment in the Fire."

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوا۟

And they (will) say

waqālū

مَا

What (is)

لَنَا

for us

lanā

لَا

not

نَرَىٰ

we see

narā

رِجَالًۭا

men

rijālan

كُنَّا

we used to

kunnā

نَعُدُّهُم

count them

naʿudduhum

مِّنَ

among

mina

ٱلْأَشْرَارِ

the bad ones

l-ashrāri

٦٢

And they will say, "Why do we not see men whom we used to count among the worst?1

— Saheeh International

أَتَّخَذْنَـٰهُمْ

Did we take them

attakhadhnāhum

سِخْرِيًّا

(in) ridicule

sikh'riyyan

أَمْ

or

am

زَاغَتْ

has turned away

zāghat

عَنْهُمُ

from them

ʿanhumu

ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ

the vision

l-abṣāru

٦٣

Is it [because] we took them in ridicule, or has [our] vision turned away from them?"

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَحَقٌّۭ

(is) surely (the) truth

laḥaqqun

تَخَاصُمُ

(the) quarreling

takhāṣumu

أَهْلِ

(of the) people

ahli

ٱلنَّارِ

(of) the Fire

l-nāri

٦٤

Indeed, that is truth [i.e., reality] - the quarreling of the people of the Fire.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنَّمَآ

Only

innamā

أَنَا۠

I am

anā

مُنذِرٌۭ ۖ

a warner

mundhirun

وَمَا

and not

wamā

مِنْ

(is there) any

min

إِلَـٰهٍ

god

ilāhin

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

ٱلْوَٰحِدُ

the One

l-wāḥidu

ٱلْقَهَّارُ

the Irresistible

l-qahāru

٦٥

Say, [O Muḥammad], "I am only a warner, and there is not any deity except Allāh, the One, the Prevailing,1

— Saheeh International

رَبُّ

Lord

rabbu

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَمَا

and whatever

wamā

بَيْنَهُمَا

(is) between them

baynahumā

ٱلْعَزِيزُ

the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzu

ٱلْغَفَّـٰرُ

the Oft-Forgiving

l-ghafāru

٦٦

Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Exalted in Might,1 the Perpetual Forgiver."2

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

هُوَ

It (is)

huwa

نَبَؤٌا۟

a news

naba-on

عَظِيمٌ

great

ʿaẓīmun

٦٧

Say, "It is great news

— Saheeh International

أَنتُمْ

You

antum

عَنْهُ

from it

ʿanhu

مُعْرِضُونَ

turn away

muʿ'riḍūna

٦٨

From which you turn away.

— Saheeh International

مَا

Not

كَانَ

is

kāna

لِىَ

for me

liya

مِنْ

any

min

عِلْمٍۭ

knowledge

ʿil'min

بِٱلْمَلَإِ

(of) the chiefs

bil-mala-i

ٱلْأَعْلَىٰٓ

the exalted

l-aʿlā

إِذْ

when

idh

يَخْتَصِمُونَ

they were disputing

yakhtaṣimūna

٦٩

I had no knowledge of the exalted assembly [of angels] when they were disputing [the creation of Adam].

— Saheeh International

إِن

Not

in

يُوحَىٰٓ

has been revealed

yūḥā

إِلَىَّ

to me

ilayya

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَنَّمَآ

that only

annamā

أَنَا۠

I am

anā

نَذِيرٌۭ

a warner

nadhīrun

مُّبِينٌ

clear

mubīnun

٧٠

It has not been revealed to me except that I am a clear warner."

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

قَالَ

said

qāla

رَبُّكَ

your Lord

rabbuka

لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ

to the Angels

lil'malāikati

إِنِّى

Indeed, I Am

innī

خَـٰلِقٌۢ

going to create

khāliqun

بَشَرًۭا

a human being

basharan

مِّن

from

min

طِينٍۢ

clay

ṭīnin

٧١

[So mention] when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay.

— Saheeh International

فَإِذَا

So when

fa-idhā

سَوَّيْتُهُۥ

I have proportioned him

sawwaytuhu

وَنَفَخْتُ

and breathed

wanafakhtu

فِيهِ

into him

fīhi

مِن

of

min

رُّوحِى

My spirit

rūḥī

فَقَعُوا۟

then fall down

faqaʿū

لَهُۥ

to him

lahu

سَـٰجِدِينَ

prostrating

sājidīna

٧٢

So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul,1 then fall down to him in prostration."

— Saheeh International

فَسَجَدَ

So prostrated

fasajada

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ

the Angels

l-malāikatu

كُلُّهُمْ

all of them

kulluhum

أَجْمَعُونَ

together

ajmaʿūna

٧٣

So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,

— Saheeh International

إِلَّآ

Except

illā

إِبْلِيسَ

Iblis

ib'līsa

ٱسْتَكْبَرَ

he was arrogant

is'takbara

وَكَانَ

and became

wakāna

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

the disbelievers

l-kāfirīna

٧٤

Except Iblees;1 he was arrogant and became among the disbelievers.

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُ

O Iblis

yāib'līsu

مَا

What

مَنَعَكَ

prevented you

manaʿaka

أَن

that

an

تَسْجُدَ

you (should) prostrate

tasjuda

لِمَا

to (one) whom

limā

خَلَقْتُ

I created

khalaqtu

بِيَدَىَّ ۖ

with My Hands

biyadayya

أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ

Are you arrogant

astakbarta

أَمْ

or

am

كُنتَ

are you

kunta

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْعَالِينَ

the exalted ones

l-ʿālīna

٧٥

[Allāh] said, "O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My hands?1 Were you arrogant [then], or were you [already] among the haughty?"

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

أَنَا۠

I am

anā

خَيْرٌۭ

better

khayrun

مِّنْهُ ۖ

than him

min'hu

خَلَقْتَنِى

You created me

khalaqtanī

مِن

from

min

نَّارٍۢ

fire

nārin

وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ

and You created him

wakhalaqtahu

مِن

from

min

طِينٍۢ

clay

ṭīnin

٧٦

He said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

فَٱخْرُجْ

Then get out

fa-ukh'ruj

مِنْهَا

of it

min'hā

فَإِنَّكَ

for indeed, you

fa-innaka

رَجِيمٌۭ

(are) accursed

rajīmun

٧٧

[Allāh] said, "Then get out of it [i.e., Paradise], for indeed, you are expelled.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

عَلَيْكَ

upon you

ʿalayka

لَعْنَتِىٓ

(is) My curse

laʿnatī

إِلَىٰ

until

ilā

يَوْمِ

(the) Day

yawmi

ٱلدِّينِ

(of) Judgment

l-dīni

٧٨

And indeed, upon you is My curse until the Day of Recompense."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ

Then give me respite

fa-anẓir'nī

إِلَىٰ

until

ilā

يَوْمِ

(the) Day

yawmi

يُبْعَثُونَ

they are resurrected

yub'ʿathūna

٧٩

He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

فَإِنَّكَ

Then indeed, you

fa-innaka

مِنَ

(are) of

mina

ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ

those given respite

l-munẓarīna

٨٠

[Allāh] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved

— Saheeh International

إِلَىٰ

Until

ilā

يَوْمِ

(the) Day

yawmi

ٱلْوَقْتِ

(of) the time

l-waqti

ٱلْمَعْلُومِ

well-known

l-maʿlūmi

٨١

Until the Day of the time well-known."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

فَبِعِزَّتِكَ

Then by Your might

fabiʿizzatika

لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ

I will surely mislead them

la-ugh'wiyannahum

أَجْمَعِينَ

all

ajmaʿīna

٨٢

[Iblees] said, "By Your might, I will surely mislead them all.

— Saheeh International

إِلَّا

Except

illā

عِبَادَكَ

Your slaves

ʿibādaka

مِنْهُمُ

among them

min'humu

ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

the chosen ones

l-mukh'laṣīna

٨٣

Except, among them, Your chosen servants."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

فَٱلْحَقُّ

Then (it is) the truth

fal-ḥaqu

وَٱلْحَقَّ

and the truth

wal-ḥaqa

أَقُولُ

I say

aqūlu

٨٤

[Allāh] said, "The truth [is My oath], and the truth I say -

— Saheeh International

لَأَمْلَأَنَّ

Surely I will fill

la-amla-anna

جَهَنَّمَ

Hell

jahannama

مِنكَ

with you

minka

وَمِمَّن

and those who

wamimman

تَبِعَكَ

follow you

tabiʿaka

مِنْهُمْ

among them

min'hum

أَجْمَعِينَ

all

ajmaʿīna

٨٥

[That] I will surely fill Hell with you and those of them that follow you all together."

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

مَآ

Not

أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ

I ask of you

asalukum

عَلَيْهِ

for it

ʿalayhi

مِنْ

any

min

أَجْرٍۢ

payment

ajrin

وَمَآ

and not

wamā

أَنَا۠

I am

anā

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ

the ones who pretend

l-mutakalifīna

٨٦

Say, [O Muḥammad], "I do not ask you for it [i.e., the Qur’ān] any payment, and I am not of the pretentious.

— Saheeh International

إِنْ

Not

in

هُوَ

it (is)

huwa

إِلَّا

except

illā

ذِكْرٌۭ

a Reminder

dhik'run

لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

to the worlds

lil'ʿālamīna

٨٧

It is but a reminder to the worlds.

— Saheeh International

وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ

And surely you will know

walataʿlamunna

نَبَأَهُۥ

its information

naba-ahu

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

حِينٍۭ

a time

ḥīnin

٨٨

And you will surely know [the truth of] its information after a time."
