Yā, Seen.1

— Saheeh International

وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ

By the Quran

wal-qur'āni

ٱلْحَكِيمِ

the Wise

l-ḥakīmi

٢

By the wise1 Qur’ān,

— Saheeh International

إِنَّكَ

Indeed, you

innaka

لَمِنَ

(are) among

lamina

ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

the Messengers

l-mur'salīna

٣

Indeed you, [O Muḥammad], are from among the messengers,

— Saheeh International

عَلَىٰ

On

ʿalā

صِرَٰطٍۢ

a Path

ṣirāṭin

مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ

Straight

mus'taqīmin

٤

On a straight path.

— Saheeh International

تَنزِيلَ

A revelation

tanzīla

ٱلْعَزِيزِ

(of) the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzi

ٱلرَّحِيمِ

the Most Merciful

l-raḥīmi

٥

[This is] a revelation of the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,

— Saheeh International

لِتُنذِرَ

That you may warn

litundhira

قَوْمًۭا

a people

qawman

مَّآ

not

أُنذِرَ

were warned

undhira

ءَابَآؤُهُمْ

their forefathers

ābāuhum

فَهُمْ

so they

fahum

غَـٰفِلُونَ

(are) heedless

ghāfilūna

٦

That you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, so they are unaware.

— Saheeh International

لَقَدْ

Certainly

laqad

حَقَّ

(has) proved true

ḥaqqa

ٱلْقَوْلُ

the word

l-qawlu

عَلَىٰٓ

upon

ʿalā

أَكْثَرِهِمْ

most of them

aktharihim

فَهُمْ

so they

fahum

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

٧

Already the word [i.e., decree] has come into effect upon most of them, so they do not believe.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّا

Indeed, We

innā

جَعَلْنَا

[We] have placed

jaʿalnā

فِىٓ

on

أَعْنَـٰقِهِمْ

their necks

aʿnāqihim

أَغْلَـٰلًۭا

iron collars

aghlālan

فَهِىَ

and they

fahiya

إِلَى

(are up) to

ilā

ٱلْأَذْقَانِ

the chins

l-adhqāni

فَهُم

so they

fahum

مُّقْمَحُونَ

(are with) heads raised up

muq'maḥūna

٨

Indeed, We have put shackles on their necks, and they are to their chins, so they are with heads [kept] aloft.

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلْنَا

And We have made

wajaʿalnā

مِنۢ

from

min

بَيْنِ

before/between

bayni

أَيْدِيهِمْ

their hands/their front

aydīhim

سَدًّۭا

a barrier

saddan

وَمِنْ

and from

wamin

خَلْفِهِمْ

behind them

khalfihim

سَدًّۭا

a barrier

saddan

فَأَغْشَيْنَـٰهُمْ

and We covered them

fa-aghshaynāhum

فَهُمْ

so they

fahum

لَا

(do) not

يُبْصِرُونَ

see

yub'ṣirūna

٩

And We have put before them a barrier and behind them a barrier and covered them, so they do not see.

— Saheeh International

وَسَوَآءٌ

And it (is) same

wasawāon

عَلَيْهِمْ

to them

ʿalayhim

ءَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ

whether you warn them

a-andhartahum

أَمْ

or

am

لَمْ

(do) not

lam

تُنذِرْهُمْ

warn them

tundhir'hum

لَا

not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

they will believe

yu'minūna

١٠

And it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them - they will not believe.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

تُنذِرُ

you (can) warn

tundhiru

مَنِ

(him) who

mani

ٱتَّبَعَ

follows

ittabaʿa

ٱلذِّكْرَ

the Reminder

l-dhik'ra

وَخَشِىَ

and fears

wakhashiya

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ

the Most Gracious

l-raḥmāna

بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۖ

in the unseen

bil-ghaybi

فَبَشِّرْهُ

So give him glad tidings

fabashir'hu

بِمَغْفِرَةٍۢ

of forgiveness

bimaghfiratin

وَأَجْرٍۢ

and a reward

wa-ajrin

كَرِيمٍ

noble

karīmin

١١

You can only warn one who follows the message and fears the Most Merciful unseen. So give him good tidings of forgiveness and noble reward.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّا

Indeed, We

innā

نَحْنُ

[We]

naḥnu

نُحْىِ

[We] give life

nuḥ'yī

ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ

(to) the dead

l-mawtā

وَنَكْتُبُ

and We record

wanaktubu

مَا

what

قَدَّمُوا۟

they have sent before

qaddamū

وَءَاثَـٰرَهُمْ ۚ

and their footprints

waāthārahum

وَكُلَّ

and every

wakulla

شَىْءٍ

thing

shayin

أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ

We have enumerated it

aḥṣaynāhu

فِىٓ

in

إِمَامٍۢ

a Register

imāmin

مُّبِينٍۢ

clear

mubīnin

١٢

Indeed, it is We who bring the dead to life and record what they have put forth and what they left behind, and all things We have enumerated in a clear register.

— Saheeh International

وَٱضْرِبْ

And set forth

wa-iḍ'rib

لَهُم

to them

lahum

مَّثَلًا

an example

mathalan

أَصْحَـٰبَ

(of the) companions

aṣḥāba

ٱلْقَرْيَةِ

(of) the city

l-qaryati

إِذْ

when

idh

جَآءَهَا

came to it

jāahā

ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ

the Messengers

l-mur'salūna

١٣

And present to them an example: the people of the city, when the messengers came to it -

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

أَرْسَلْنَآ

We sent

arsalnā

إِلَيْهِمُ

to them

ilayhimu

ٱثْنَيْنِ

two (Messengers)

ith'nayni

فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا

but they denied both of them

fakadhabūhumā

فَعَزَّزْنَا

so We strengthened them

faʿazzaznā

بِثَالِثٍۢ

with a third

bithālithin

فَقَالُوٓا۟

and they said

faqālū

إِنَّآ

Indeed, We

innā

إِلَيْكُم

to you

ilaykum

مُّرْسَلُونَ

(are) Messengers

mur'salūna

١٤

When We sent to them two but they denied them, so We strengthened [them] with a third, and they said, "Indeed, we are messengers to you."

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

مَآ

Not

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

إِلَّا

(are) but

illā

بَشَرٌۭ

human beings

basharun

مِّثْلُنَا

like us

mith'lunā

وَمَآ

and not

wamā

أَنزَلَ

has revealed

anzala

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ

the Most Gracious

l-raḥmānu

مِن

any

min

شَىْءٍ

thing

shayin

إِنْ

Not

in

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

إِلَّا

(are) but

illā

تَكْذِبُونَ

lying

takdhibūna

١٥

They said, "You are not but human beings like us, and the Most Merciful has not revealed a thing. You are only telling lies."

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

رَبُّنَا

Our Lord

rabbunā

يَعْلَمُ

knows

yaʿlamu

إِنَّآ

that we

innā

إِلَيْكُمْ

to you

ilaykum

لَمُرْسَلُونَ

(are) surely Messengers

lamur'salūna

١٦

They said, "Our Lord knows that we are messengers to you,

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

عَلَيْنَآ

(is) on us

ʿalaynā

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ

the conveyance

l-balāghu

ٱلْمُبِينُ

clear

l-mubīnu

١٧

And we are not responsible except for clear notification."

— Saheeh International

قَالُوٓا۟

They said

qālū

إِنَّا

Indeed, we

innā

تَطَيَّرْنَا

[we] see an evil omen

taṭayyarnā

بِكُمْ ۖ

from you

bikum

لَئِن

If

la-in

لَّمْ

not

lam

تَنتَهُوا۟

you desist

tantahū

لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ

surely, we will stone you

lanarjumannakum

وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُم

and surely will touch you

walayamassannakum

مِّنَّا

from us

minnā

عَذَابٌ

a punishment

ʿadhābun

أَلِيمٌۭ

painful

alīmun

١٨

They said, "Indeed, we consider you a bad omen. If you do not desist, we will surely stone you, and there will surely touch you, from us, a painful punishment."

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

طَـٰٓئِرُكُم

Your evil omen

ṭāirukum

مَّعَكُمْ ۚ

(be) with you

maʿakum

أَئِن

Is it because

a-in

ذُكِّرْتُم ۚ

you are admonished

dhukkir'tum

بَلْ

Nay

bal

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

قَوْمٌۭ

(are) a people

qawmun

مُّسْرِفُونَ

transgressing

mus'rifūna

١٩

They said, "Your omen [i.e., fate] is with yourselves. Is it1 because you were reminded? Rather, you are a transgressing people."

— Saheeh International

وَجَآءَ

And came

wajāa

مِنْ

from

min

أَقْصَا

(the) farthest end

aqṣā

ٱلْمَدِينَةِ

(of) the city

l-madīnati

رَجُلٌۭ

a man

rajulun

يَسْعَىٰ

running

yasʿā

قَالَ

He said

qāla

يَـٰقَوْمِ

O my People

yāqawmi

ٱتَّبِعُوا۟

Follow

ittabiʿū

ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

the Messengers

l-mur'salīna

٢٠

And there came from the farthest end of the city a man, running. He said, "O my people, follow the messengers.

— Saheeh International

ٱتَّبِعُوا۟

Follow

ittabiʿū

مَن

(those) who

man

لَّا

(do) not

يَسْـَٔلُكُمْ

ask (of) you

yasalukum

أَجْرًۭا

any payment

ajran

وَهُم

and they

wahum

مُّهْتَدُونَ

(are) rightly guided

muh'tadūna

٢١

Follow those who do not ask of you [any] payment, and they are [rightly] guided.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And what

wamā

لِىَ

(is) for me

liya

لَآ

(that) not

أَعْبُدُ

I worship

aʿbudu

ٱلَّذِى

the One Who

alladhī

فَطَرَنِى

created me

faṭaranī

وَإِلَيْهِ

and to Whom

wa-ilayhi

تُرْجَعُونَ

you will be returned

tur'jaʿūna

٢٢

And why should I not worship He who created me and to whom you will be returned?

— Saheeh International

ءَأَتَّخِذُ

Should I take

a-attakhidhu

مِن

besides Him

min

دُونِهِۦٓ

besides Him

dūnihi

ءَالِهَةً

gods

ālihatan

إِن

If

in

يُرِدْنِ

intends for me

yurid'ni

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ

the Most Gracious

l-raḥmānu

بِضُرٍّۢ

any harm

biḍurrin

لَّا

not

تُغْنِ

will avail

tugh'ni

عَنِّى

[from] me

ʿannī

شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ

their intercession

shafāʿatuhum

شَيْـًۭٔا

(in) anything

shayan

وَلَا

and not

walā

يُنقِذُونِ

they (can) save me

yunqidhūni

٢٣

Should I take other than Him [false] deities [while], if the Most Merciful intends for me some adversity, their intercession will not avail me at all, nor can they save me?

— Saheeh International

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed, I

innī

إِذًۭا

then

idhan

لَّفِى

surely would be in

lafī

ضَلَـٰلٍۢ

an error

ḍalālin

مُّبِينٍ

clear

mubīnin

٢٤

Indeed, I would then be in manifest error.

— Saheeh International

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed, I

innī

ءَامَنتُ

[I] have believed

āmantu

بِرَبِّكُمْ

in your Lord

birabbikum

فَٱسْمَعُونِ

so listen to me

fa-is'maʿūni

٢٥

Indeed, I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me."

— Saheeh International

قِيلَ

It was said

qīla

ٱدْخُلِ

Enter

ud'khuli

ٱلْجَنَّةَ ۖ

Paradise

l-janata

قَالَ

He said

qāla

يَـٰلَيْتَ

I wish

yālayta

قَوْمِى

my people

qawmī

يَعْلَمُونَ

knew

yaʿlamūna

٢٦

It was said, "Enter Paradise."1 He said, "I wish my people could know

— Saheeh International

بِمَا

Of how

bimā

غَفَرَ

has forgiven

ghafara

لِى

me

رَبِّى

my Lord

rabbī

وَجَعَلَنِى

and placed me

wajaʿalanī

مِنَ

among

mina

ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَ

the honored ones

l-muk'ramīna

٢٧

Of how my Lord has forgiven me and placed me among the honored."

— Saheeh International

۞ وَمَآ

And not

wamā

أَنزَلْنَا

We sent down

anzalnā

عَلَىٰ

upon

ʿalā

قَوْمِهِۦ

his people

qawmihi

مِنۢ

after him

min

بَعْدِهِۦ

after him

baʿdihi

مِن

any

min

جُندٍۢ

host

jundin

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the heaven

l-samāi

وَمَا

and not

wamā

كُنَّا

were We

kunnā

مُنزِلِينَ

(to) send down

munzilīna

٢٨

And We did not send down upon his people after him any soldiers from the heaven, nor would We have done so.

— Saheeh International

إِن

Not

in

كَانَتْ

it was

kānat

إِلَّا

but

illā

صَيْحَةًۭ

a shout

ṣayḥatan

وَٰحِدَةًۭ

one

wāḥidatan

فَإِذَا

then behold

fa-idhā

هُمْ

They

hum

خَـٰمِدُونَ

(were) extinguished

khāmidūna

٢٩

It was not but one shout,1 and immediately they were extinguished.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰحَسْرَةً

Alas

yāḥasratan

عَلَى

for

ʿalā

ٱلْعِبَادِ ۚ

the servants

l-ʿibādi

مَا

Not

يَأْتِيهِم

came to them

yatīhim

مِّن

any

min

رَّسُولٍ

Messenger

rasūlin

إِلَّا

but

illā

كَانُوا۟

they did

kānū

بِهِۦ

mock at him

bihi

يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

mock at him

yastahziūna

٣٠

How regretful for the servants. There did not come to them any messenger except that they used to ridicule him.

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

يَرَوْا۟

they see

yaraw

كَمْ

how many

kam

أَهْلَكْنَا

We destroyed

ahlaknā

قَبْلَهُم

before them

qablahum

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلْقُرُونِ

the generations

l-qurūni

أَنَّهُمْ

That they

annahum

إِلَيْهِمْ

to them

ilayhim

لَا

will not return

يَرْجِعُونَ

will not return

yarjiʿūna

٣١

Have they not considered how many generations We destroyed before them - that they to them1 will not return?

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

And surely

wa-in

كُلٌّۭ

all

kullun

لَّمَّا

then

lammā

جَمِيعٌۭ

together

jamīʿun

لَّدَيْنَا

before Us

ladaynā

مُحْضَرُونَ

(will be) brought

muḥ'ḍarūna

٣٢

And indeed, all of them will yet be brought present before Us.

— Saheeh International

وَءَايَةٌۭ

And a Sign

waāyatun

لَّهُمُ

for them

lahumu

ٱلْأَرْضُ

(is) the earth

l-arḍu

ٱلْمَيْتَةُ

dead

l-maytatu

أَحْيَيْنَـٰهَا

We give it life

aḥyaynāhā

وَأَخْرَجْنَا

and We bring forth

wa-akhrajnā

مِنْهَا

from it

min'hā

حَبًّۭا

grain

ḥabban

فَمِنْهُ

and from it

famin'hu

يَأْكُلُونَ

they eat

yakulūna

٣٣

And a sign for them is the dead earth. We have brought it to life and brought forth from it grain, and from it they eat.

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلْنَا

And We placed

wajaʿalnā

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

جَنَّـٰتٍۢ

gardens

jannātin

مِّن

of

min

نَّخِيلٍۢ

date-palms

nakhīlin

وَأَعْنَـٰبٍۢ

and grapevines

wa-aʿnābin

وَفَجَّرْنَا

and We caused to gush forth

wafajjarnā

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْعُيُونِ

the springs

l-ʿuyūni

٣٤

And We placed therein gardens of palm trees and grapevines and caused to burst forth therefrom some springs -

— Saheeh International

لِيَأْكُلُوا۟

That they may eat

liyakulū

مِن

of

min

ثَمَرِهِۦ

its fruit

thamarihi

وَمَا

And not

wamā

عَمِلَتْهُ

made it

ʿamilathu

أَيْدِيهِمْ ۖ

their hands

aydīhim

أَفَلَا

So will not

afalā

يَشْكُرُونَ

they be grateful

yashkurūna

٣٥

That they may eat of His fruit.1 And their hands have not produced it,2 so will they not be grateful?

— Saheeh International

سُبْحَـٰنَ

Glory be

sub'ḥāna

ٱلَّذِى

(to) the One Who

alladhī

خَلَقَ

created

khalaqa

ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ

(in) pairs

l-azwāja

كُلَّهَا

all

kullahā

مِمَّا

of what

mimmā

تُنۢبِتُ

grows

tunbitu

ٱلْأَرْضُ

the earth

l-arḍu

وَمِنْ

and of

wamin

أَنفُسِهِمْ

themselves

anfusihim

وَمِمَّا

and of what

wamimmā

لَا

not

يَعْلَمُونَ

they know

yaʿlamūna

٣٦

Exalted is He who created all pairs1 - from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know.

— Saheeh International

وَءَايَةٌۭ

And a Sign

waāyatun

لَّهُمُ

for them

lahumu

ٱلَّيْلُ

(is) the night

al-laylu

نَسْلَخُ

We withdraw

naslakhu

مِنْهُ

from it

min'hu

ٱلنَّهَارَ

the day

l-nahāra

فَإِذَا

Then behold

fa-idhā

هُم

They

hum

مُّظْلِمُونَ

(are) those in darkness

muẓ'limūna

٣٧

And a sign for them is the night. We remove1 from it the [light of] day, so they are [left] in darkness.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلشَّمْسُ

And the sun

wal-shamsu

تَجْرِى

runs

tajrī

لِمُسْتَقَرٍّۢ

to a term appointed

limus'taqarrin

لَّهَا ۚ

for it

lahā

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

تَقْدِيرُ

(is the) Decree

taqdīru

ٱلْعَزِيزِ

(of) the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzi

ٱلْعَلِيمِ

the All-Knowing

l-ʿalīmi

٣٨

And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلْقَمَرَ

And the moon

wal-qamara

قَدَّرْنَـٰهُ

We have ordained for it

qaddarnāhu

مَنَازِلَ

phases

manāzila

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

عَادَ

it returns

ʿāda

كَٱلْعُرْجُونِ

like the date stalk

kal-ʿur'jūni

ٱلْقَدِيمِ

the old

l-qadīmi

٣٩

And the moon - We have determined for it phases, until it returns [appearing] like the old date stalk.

— Saheeh International

لَا

Not

ٱلشَّمْسُ

the sun

l-shamsu

يَنۢبَغِى

is permitted

yanbaghī

لَهَآ

for it

lahā

أَن

that

an

تُدْرِكَ

it overtakes

tud'rika

ٱلْقَمَرَ

the moon

l-qamara

وَلَا

and not

walā

ٱلَّيْلُ

the night

al-laylu

سَابِقُ

(can) outstrip

sābiqu

ٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ

the day

l-nahāri

وَكُلٌّۭ

but all

wakullun

فِى

in

فَلَكٍۢ

an orbit

falakin

يَسْبَحُونَ

they are floating

yasbaḥūna

٤٠

It is not allowable [i.e., possible] for the sun to reach the moon, nor does the night overtake the day, but each, in an orbit, is swimming.

— Saheeh International

وَءَايَةٌۭ

And a Sign

waāyatun

لَّهُمْ

for them

lahum

أَنَّا

(is) that

annā

حَمَلْنَا

We carried

ḥamalnā

ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ

their offspring

dhurriyyatahum

فِى

in

ٱلْفُلْكِ

the ship

l-ful'ki

ٱلْمَشْحُونِ

laden

l-mashḥūni

٤١

And a sign for them is that We carried their forefathers1 in a laden ship.

— Saheeh International

وَخَلَقْنَا

And We created

wakhalaqnā

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مِّن

from

min

مِّثْلِهِۦ

(the) likes of it

mith'lihi

مَا

what

يَرْكَبُونَ

they ride

yarkabūna

٤٢

And We created for them from the likes of it that which they ride.

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

نَّشَأْ

We will

nasha

نُغْرِقْهُمْ

We could drown them

nugh'riq'hum

فَلَا

then not

falā

صَرِيخَ

(would be) a responder to a cry

ṣarīkha

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

وَلَا

and not

walā

هُمْ

they

hum

يُنقَذُونَ

would be saved

yunqadhūna

٤٣

And if We should will, We could drown them; then no one responding to a cry would there be for them, nor would they be saved

— Saheeh International

إِلَّا

Except

illā

رَحْمَةًۭ

(by) Mercy

raḥmatan

مِّنَّا

from Us

minnā

وَمَتَـٰعًا

and provision

wamatāʿan

إِلَىٰ

for

ilā

حِينٍۢ

a time

ḥīnin

٤٤

Except as a mercy from Us and provision for a time.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

قِيلَ

it is said

qīla

لَهُمُ

to them

lahumu

ٱتَّقُوا۟

Fear

ittaqū

مَا

what

بَيْنَ

(is) before you

bayna

أَيْدِيكُمْ

(is) before you

aydīkum

وَمَا

and what

wamā

خَلْفَكُمْ

(is) behind you

khalfakum

لَعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تُرْحَمُونَ

receive mercy

tur'ḥamūna

٤٥

But when it is said to them, "Beware of what is before you and what is behind you;1 perhaps you will receive mercy..."2

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

تَأْتِيهِم

comes to them

tatīhim

مِّنْ

of

min

ءَايَةٍۢ

a Sign

āyatin

مِّنْ

from

min

ءَايَـٰتِ

(the) Signs

āyāti

رَبِّهِمْ

(of) their Lord

rabbihim

إِلَّا

but

illā

كَانُوا۟

they

kānū

عَنْهَا

from it

ʿanhā

مُعْرِضِينَ

turn away

muʿ'riḍīna

٤٦

And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they are from it turning away.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

قِيلَ

it is said

qīla

لَهُمْ

to them

lahum

أَنفِقُوا۟

Spend

anfiqū

مِمَّا

from what

mimmā

رَزَقَكُمُ

(has) provided you

razaqakumu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

قَالَ

Said

qāla

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

لِلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

ءَامَنُوٓا۟

believed

āmanū

أَنُطْعِمُ

Should we feed

anuṭ'ʿimu

مَن

whom

man

لَّوْ

if

law

يَشَآءُ

Allah willed

yashāu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah willed

l-lahu

أَطْعَمَهُۥٓ

He would have fed him

aṭʿamahu

إِنْ

Not

in

أَنتُمْ

(are) you

antum

إِلَّا

except

illā

فِى

in

ضَلَـٰلٍۢ

an error

ḍalālin

مُّبِينٍۢ

clear

mubīnin

٤٧

And when it is said to them, "Spend from that which Allāh has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed one whom, if Allāh had willed, He would have fed? You are not but in clear error."

— Saheeh International

وَيَقُولُونَ

And they say

wayaqūlūna

مَتَىٰ

When (is)

matā

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

ٱلْوَعْدُ

promise

l-waʿdu

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you are

kuntum

صَـٰدِقِينَ

truthful

ṣādiqīna

٤٨

And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"

— Saheeh International

مَا

Not

يَنظُرُونَ

they await

yanẓurūna

إِلَّا

except

illā

صَيْحَةًۭ

a shout

ṣayḥatan

وَٰحِدَةًۭ

one

wāḥidatan

تَأْخُذُهُمْ

it will seize them

takhudhuhum

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

يَخِصِّمُونَ

are disputing

yakhiṣṣimūna

٤٩

They do not await except one blast1 which will seize them while they are disputing.

— Saheeh International

فَلَا

Then not

falā

يَسْتَطِيعُونَ

they will be able

yastaṭīʿūna

تَوْصِيَةًۭ

(to) make a will

tawṣiyatan

وَلَآ

and not

walā

إِلَىٰٓ

to

ilā

أَهْلِهِمْ

their people

ahlihim

يَرْجِعُونَ

they (can) return

yarjiʿūna

٥٠

And they will not be able [to give] any instruction, nor to their people can they return.

— Saheeh International

وَنُفِخَ

And will be blown

wanufikha

فِى

[in]

ٱلصُّورِ

the trumpet

l-ṣūri

فَإِذَا

and behold

fa-idhā

هُم

They

hum

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ

the graves

l-ajdāthi

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

رَبِّهِمْ

their Lord

rabbihim

يَنسِلُونَ

[they] will hasten

yansilūna

٥١

And the Horn will be blown;1 and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten.

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They [will] say

qālū

يَـٰوَيْلَنَا

O woe to us

yāwaylanā

مَنۢ

Who

man

بَعَثَنَا

has raised us

baʿathanā

مِن

from

min

مَّرْقَدِنَا ۜ ۗ

our sleeping place

marqadinā

هَـٰذَا

This (is)

hādhā

مَا

What

وَعَدَ

(had) promised

waʿada

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ

the Most Gracious

l-raḥmānu

وَصَدَقَ

and told (the) truth

waṣadaqa

ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ

the Messengers

l-mur'salūna

٥٢

They will say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?" [The reply will be], "This is what the Most Merciful had promised, and the messengers told the truth."

— Saheeh International

إِن

Not

in

كَانَتْ

it will be

kānat

إِلَّا

but

illā

صَيْحَةًۭ

a shout

ṣayḥatan

وَٰحِدَةًۭ

single

wāḥidatan

فَإِذَا

so behold

fa-idhā

هُمْ

They

hum

جَمِيعٌۭ

all

jamīʿun

لَّدَيْنَا

before Us

ladaynā

مُحْضَرُونَ

(will be) brought

muḥ'ḍarūna

٥٣

It will not be but one blast, and at once they are all brought present before Us.

— Saheeh International

فَٱلْيَوْمَ

So this Day

fal-yawma

لَا

not

تُظْلَمُ

will be wronged

tuẓ'lamu

نَفْسٌۭ

a soul

nafsun

شَيْـًۭٔا

(in) anything

shayan

وَلَا

and not

walā

تُجْزَوْنَ

you will be recompensed

tuj'zawna

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَا

(for) what

كُنتُمْ

you used (to)

kuntum

تَعْمَلُونَ

do

taʿmalūna

٥٤

So today [i.e., the Day of Judgement] no soul will be wronged at all, and you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

أَصْحَـٰبَ

(the) companions

aṣḥāba

ٱلْجَنَّةِ

(of) Paradise

l-janati

ٱلْيَوْمَ

this Day

l-yawma

فِى

[in]

شُغُلٍۢ

will be occupied

shughulin

فَـٰكِهُونَ

(in) amusement

fākihūna

٥٥

Indeed the companions of Paradise, that Day, will be amused in [joyful] occupation -

— Saheeh International

هُمْ

They

hum

وَأَزْوَٰجُهُمْ

and their spouses

wa-azwājuhum

فِى

in

ظِلَـٰلٍ

shades

ẓilālin

عَلَى

on

ʿalā

ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ

[the] couches

l-arāiki

مُتَّكِـُٔونَ

reclining

muttakiūna

٥٦

They and their spouses - in shade, reclining on adorned couches.

— Saheeh International

لَهُمْ

For them

lahum

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

فَـٰكِهَةٌۭ

(are) fruits

fākihatun

وَلَهُم

and for them

walahum

مَّا

(is) whatever

يَدَّعُونَ

they call for

yaddaʿūna

٥٧

For them therein is fruit, and for them is whatever they request [or wish]

— Saheeh International

سَلَـٰمٌۭ

Peace

salāmun

قَوْلًۭا

A word

qawlan

مِّن

from

min

رَّبٍّۢ

a Lord

rabbin

رَّحِيمٍۢ

Most Merciful

raḥīmin

٥٨

[And] "Peace," a word from a Merciful Lord.

— Saheeh International

وَٱمْتَـٰزُوا۟

But stand apart

wa-im'tāzū

ٱلْيَوْمَ

today

l-yawma

أَيُّهَا

O criminals

ayyuhā

ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ

O criminals

l-muj'rimūna

٥٩

[Then He will say], "But stand apart today, you criminals.1

— Saheeh International

۞ أَلَمْ

Did not

alam

أَعْهَدْ

I enjoin

aʿhad

إِلَيْكُمْ

upon you

ilaykum

يَـٰبَنِىٓ

O Children of Adam

yābanī

ءَادَمَ

O Children of Adam

ādama

أَن

That

an

لَّا

(do) not

تَعْبُدُوا۟

worship

taʿbudū

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ ۖ

the Shaitaan

l-shayṭāna

إِنَّهُۥ

indeed, he

innahu

لَكُمْ

(is) for you

lakum

عَدُوٌّۭ

an enemy

ʿaduwwun

مُّبِينٌۭ

clear

mubīnun

٦٠

Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan - [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy -

— Saheeh International

وَأَنِ

And that

wa-ani

ٱعْبُدُونِى ۚ

you worship Me

uʿ'budūnī

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

صِرَٰطٌۭ

(is) a Path

ṣirāṭun

مُّسْتَقِيمٌۭ

Straight

mus'taqīmun

٦١

And that you worship [only] Me? This is a straight path.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And indeed

walaqad

أَضَلَّ

he led astray

aḍalla

مِنكُمْ

from you

minkum

جِبِلًّۭا

a multitude

jibillan

كَثِيرًا ۖ

great

kathīran

أَفَلَمْ

Then did not

afalam

تَكُونُوا۟

you

takūnū

تَعْقِلُونَ

use reason

taʿqilūna

٦٢

And he had already led astray from among you much of creation, so did you not use reason?

— Saheeh International

هَـٰذِهِۦ

This (is)

hādhihi

جَهَنَّمُ

(the) Hell

jahannamu

ٱلَّتِى

which

allatī

كُنتُمْ

you were

kuntum

تُوعَدُونَ

promised

tūʿadūna

٦٣

This is the Hellfire which you were promised.

— Saheeh International

ٱصْلَوْهَا

Burn therein

iṣ'lawhā

ٱلْيَوْمَ

today

l-yawma

بِمَا

because

bimā

كُنتُمْ

you used to

kuntum

تَكْفُرُونَ

disbelieve

takfurūna

٦٤

[Enter to] burn therein today for what you used to deny."1

— Saheeh International

ٱلْيَوْمَ

This Day

al-yawma

نَخْتِمُ

We will seal

nakhtimu

عَلَىٰٓ

[on]

ʿalā

أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ

their mouths

afwāhihim

وَتُكَلِّمُنَآ

and will speak to Us

watukallimunā

أَيْدِيهِمْ

their hands

aydīhim

وَتَشْهَدُ

and will bear witness

watashhadu

أَرْجُلُهُم

their feet

arjuluhum

بِمَا

about what

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَكْسِبُونَ

earn

yaksibūna

٦٥

That Day, We will seal over their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will testify about what they used to earn.

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

نَشَآءُ

We willed

nashāu

لَطَمَسْنَا

We (would have) surely obliterated

laṭamasnā

عَلَىٰٓ

[over]

ʿalā

أَعْيُنِهِمْ

their eyes

aʿyunihim

فَٱسْتَبَقُوا۟

then they (would) race

fa-is'tabaqū

ٱلصِّرَٰطَ

(to find) the path

l-ṣirāṭa

فَأَنَّىٰ

then how

fa-annā

يُبْصِرُونَ

(could) they see

yub'ṣirūna

٦٦

And if We willed, We could have obliterated their eyes, and they would race to [find] the path, and how could they see?1

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

نَشَآءُ

We willed

nashāu

لَمَسَخْنَـٰهُمْ

surely, We (would have) transformed them

lamasakhnāhum

عَلَىٰ

in

ʿalā

مَكَانَتِهِمْ

their places

makānatihim

فَمَا

then not

famā

ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟

they would have been able

is'taṭāʿū

مُضِيًّۭا

to proceed

muḍiyyan

وَلَا

and not

walā

يَرْجِعُونَ

return

yarjiʿūna

٦٧

And if We willed, We could have deformed them, [paralyzing them] in their places so they would not be able to proceed, nor could they return.1

— Saheeh International

وَمَن

And (he) whom

waman

نُّعَمِّرْهُ

We grant him long life

nuʿammir'hu

نُنَكِّسْهُ

We reverse him

nunakkis'hu

فِى

in

ٱلْخَلْقِ ۖ

the creation

l-khalqi

أَفَلَا

Then will not

afalā

يَعْقِلُونَ

they use intellect

yaʿqilūna

٦٨

And he to whom We grant long life We reverse in creation;1 so will they not understand?

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

عَلَّمْنَـٰهُ

We taught him

ʿallamnāhu

ٱلشِّعْرَ

[the] poetry

l-shiʿ'ra

وَمَا

and not

wamā

يَنۢبَغِى

it is befitting

yanbaghī

لَهُۥٓ ۚ

for him

lahu

إِنْ

Not

in

هُوَ

it

huwa

إِلَّا

(is) except

illā

ذِكْرٌۭ

a Reminder

dhik'run

وَقُرْءَانٌۭ

and a Quran

waqur'ānun

مُّبِينٌۭ

clear

mubīnun

٦٩

And We did not give him [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] knowledge of poetry, nor is it befitting for him. It is not but a message and a clear Qur’ān

— Saheeh International

لِّيُنذِرَ

To warn

liyundhira

مَن

(him) who

man

كَانَ

is

kāna

حَيًّۭا

alive

ḥayyan

وَيَحِقَّ

and may be proved true

wayaḥiqqa

ٱلْقَوْلُ

the Word

l-qawlu

عَلَى

against

ʿalā

ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

the disbelievers

l-kāfirīna

٧٠

To warn whoever is alive1 and justify the word [i.e., decree] against the disbelievers.

— Saheeh International

أَوَلَمْ

Do not

awalam

يَرَوْا۟

they see

yaraw

أَنَّا

that We

annā

خَلَقْنَا

[We] created

khalaqnā

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مِّمَّا

from what

mimmā

عَمِلَتْ

have made

ʿamilat

أَيْدِينَآ

Our hands

aydīnā

أَنْعَـٰمًۭا

cattle

anʿāman

فَهُمْ

then they

fahum

لَهَا

[for them]

lahā

مَـٰلِكُونَ

(are the) owners

mālikūna

٧١

Do they not see that We have created for them from what Our hands1 have made, grazing livestock, and [then] they are their owners?

— Saheeh International

وَذَلَّلْنَـٰهَا

And We have tamed them

wadhallalnāhā

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

فَمِنْهَا

so some of them

famin'hā

رَكُوبُهُمْ

they ride them

rakūbuhum

وَمِنْهَا

and some of them

wamin'hā

يَأْكُلُونَ

they eat

yakulūna

٧٢

And We have tamed them for them, so some of them they ride, and some of them they eat.

— Saheeh International

وَلَهُمْ

And for them

walahum

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

مَنَـٰفِعُ

(are) benefits

manāfiʿu

وَمَشَارِبُ ۖ

and drinks

wamashāribu

أَفَلَا

so (will) not

afalā

يَشْكُرُونَ

they give thanks

yashkurūna

٧٣

And for them therein are [other] benefits and drinks, so will they not be grateful?

— Saheeh International

وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟

But they have taken

wa-ittakhadhū

مِن

besides

min

دُونِ

besides

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

ءَالِهَةًۭ

gods

ālihatan

لَّعَلَّهُمْ

that they may

laʿallahum

يُنصَرُونَ

be helped

yunṣarūna

٧٤

But they have taken besides Allāh [false] deities that perhaps they would be helped.

— Saheeh International

لَا

Not

يَسْتَطِيعُونَ

they are able

yastaṭīʿūna

نَصْرَهُمْ

to help them

naṣrahum

وَهُمْ

but they

wahum

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

جُندٌۭ

(are) hosts

jundun

مُّحْضَرُونَ

(who will) be brought

muḥ'ḍarūna

٧٥

They are not able to help them, and they [themselves] are for them soldiers in attendance.1

— Saheeh International

فَلَا

So (let) not

falā

يَحْزُنكَ

grieve you

yaḥzunka

قَوْلُهُمْ ۘ

their speech

qawluhum

إِنَّا

Indeed, We

innā

نَعْلَمُ

[We] know

naʿlamu

مَا

what

يُسِرُّونَ

they conceal

yusirrūna

وَمَا

and what

wamā

يُعْلِنُونَ

they declare

yuʿ'linūna

٧٦

So let not their speech grieve you. Indeed, We know what they conceal and what they declare.

— Saheeh International

أَوَلَمْ

Does not

awalam

يَرَ

see

yara

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ

[the] man

l-insānu

أَنَّا

that We

annā

خَلَقْنَـٰهُ

[We] created him

khalaqnāhu

مِن

from

min

نُّطْفَةٍۢ

a semen-drop

nuṭ'fatin

فَإِذَا

Then behold

fa-idhā

هُوَ

He

huwa

خَصِيمٌۭ

(is) an opponent

khaṣīmun

مُّبِينٌۭ

clear

mubīnun

٧٧

Does man not consider that We created him from a [mere] sperm-drop - then at once1 he is a clear adversary?

— Saheeh International

وَضَرَبَ

And he sets forth

waḍaraba

لَنَا

for Us

lanā

مَثَلًۭا

an example

mathalan

وَنَسِىَ

and forgets

wanasiya

خَلْقَهُۥ ۖ

his (own) creation

khalqahu

قَالَ

He says

qāla

مَن

Who

man

يُحْىِ

will give life

yuḥ'yī

ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ

(to) the bones

l-ʿiẓāma

وَهِىَ

while they

wahiya

رَمِيمٌۭ

(are) decomposed

ramīmun

٧٨

And he presents for Us an example1 and forgets his [own] creation. He says, "Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?"

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

يُحْيِيهَا

He will give them life

yuḥ'yīhā

ٱلَّذِىٓ

Who

alladhī

أَنشَأَهَآ

produced them

ansha-ahā

أَوَّلَ

(the) first

awwala

مَرَّةٍۢ ۖ

time

marratin

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

بِكُلِّ

(is) of every

bikulli

خَلْقٍ

creation

khalqin

عَلِيمٌ

All-Knower

ʿalīmun

٧٩

Say, "He will give them life who produced them the first time; and He is, of all creation, Knowing."

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِى

The One Who

alladhī

جَعَلَ

made

jaʿala

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلشَّجَرِ

the tree

l-shajari

ٱلْأَخْضَرِ

[the] green

l-akhḍari

نَارًۭا

fire

nāran

فَإِذَآ

and behold

fa-idhā

أَنتُم

You

antum

مِّنْهُ

from it

min'hu

تُوقِدُونَ

ignite

tūqidūna

٨٠

[It is] He who made for you from the green tree, fire, and then from it you ignite.

— Saheeh International

أَوَلَيْسَ

Is it not

awalaysa

ٱلَّذِى

(He) Who

alladhī

خَلَقَ

created

khalaqa

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

بِقَـٰدِرٍ

Able

biqādirin

عَلَىٰٓ

to

ʿalā

أَن

[that]

an

يَخْلُقَ

create

yakhluqa

مِثْلَهُم ۚ

(the) like of them

mith'lahum

بَلَىٰ

Yes, indeed

balā

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ

(is) the Supreme Creator

l-khalāqu

ٱلْعَلِيمُ

the All-Knower

l-ʿalīmu

٨١

Is not He who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the likes of them? Yes, [it is so]; and He is the Knowing Creator.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّمَآ

Only

innamā

أَمْرُهُۥٓ

His Command

amruhu

إِذَآ

when

idhā

أَرَادَ

He intends

arāda

شَيْـًٔا

a thing

shayan

أَن

that

an

يَقُولَ

He says

yaqūla

لَهُۥ

to it

lahu

كُن

Be

kun

فَيَكُونُ

and it is

fayakūnu

٨٢

His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, "Be," and it is.

— Saheeh International

فَسُبْحَـٰنَ

So glory be

fasub'ḥāna

ٱلَّذِى

(to) the One who

alladhī

بِيَدِهِۦ

in Whose hand

biyadihi

مَلَكُوتُ

is (the) dominion

malakūtu

كُلِّ

(of) all

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

things

shayin

وَإِلَيْهِ

and to Him

wa-ilayhi

تُرْجَعُونَ

So exalted is He in whose hand is the realm of all things, and to Him you will be returned.
