Alif, Lām, Meem.1

— Saheeh International

تِلْكَ

These

til'ka

ءَايَـٰتُ

(are) Verses

āyātu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

(of) the Book

l-kitābi

ٱلْحَكِيمِ

the Wise

l-ḥakīmi

٢

These are verses of the wise1 Book,

— Saheeh International

هُدًۭى

A guidance

hudan

وَرَحْمَةًۭ

and a mercy

waraḥmatan

لِّلْمُحْسِنِينَ

for the good-doers

lil'muḥ'sinīna

٣

As guidance and mercy for the doers of good

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

يُقِيمُونَ

establish

yuqīmūna

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

the prayer

l-ṣalata

وَيُؤْتُونَ

and give

wayu'tūna

ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ

zakah

l-zakata

وَهُم

and they

wahum

بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

in the Hereafter

bil-ākhirati

هُمْ

[they]

hum

يُوقِنُونَ

believe firmly

yūqinūna

٤

Who establish prayer and give zakāh, and they, of the Hereafter, are certain [in faith].

— Saheeh International

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

عَلَىٰ

(are) on

ʿalā

هُدًۭى

guidance

hudan

مِّن

from

min

رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ

their Lord

rabbihim

وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

and those

wa-ulāika

هُمُ

[they]

humu

ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ

(are) the successful

l-muf'liḥūna

٥

Those are on [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful.

— Saheeh International

وَمِنَ

And of

wamina

ٱلنَّاسِ

the mankind

l-nāsi

مَن

(is he) who

man

يَشْتَرِى

purchases

yashtarī

لَهْوَ

idle tales

lahwa

ٱلْحَدِيثِ

idle tales

l-ḥadīthi

لِيُضِلَّ

to mislead

liyuḍilla

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِ

(the) path

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

عِلْمٍۢ

knowledge

ʿil'min

وَيَتَّخِذَهَا

and takes it

wayattakhidhahā

هُزُوًا ۚ

(in) ridicule

huzuwan

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

عَذَابٌۭ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

مُّهِينٌۭ

humiliating

muhīnun

٦

And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech1 to mislead [others] from the way of Allāh without knowledge and who takes it [i.e., His way] in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

تُتْلَىٰ

are recited

tut'lā

عَلَيْهِ

to him

ʿalayhi

ءَايَـٰتُنَا

Our Verses

āyātunā

وَلَّىٰ

he turns away

wallā

مُسْتَكْبِرًۭا

arrogantly

mus'takbiran

كَأَن

as if

ka-an

لَّمْ

not

lam

يَسْمَعْهَا

he (had) heard them

yasmaʿhā

كَأَنَّ

as if

ka-anna

فِىٓ

in

أُذُنَيْهِ

his ears

udhunayhi

وَقْرًۭا ۖ

(is) deafness

waqran

فَبَشِّرْهُ

So give him tidings

fabashir'hu

بِعَذَابٍ

of a punishment

biʿadhābin

أَلِيمٍ

painful

alīmin

٧

And when Our verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly as if he had not heard them, as if there was in his ears deafness. So give him tidings of a painful punishment.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and do

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

جَنَّـٰتُ

(are) Gardens

jannātu

ٱلنَّعِيمِ

(of) Delight

l-naʿīmi

٨

Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds - for them are the Gardens of Pleasure,

— Saheeh International

خَـٰلِدِينَ

(To) abide forever

khālidīna

فِيهَا ۖ

in it

fīhā

وَعْدَ

(The) Promise of Allah

waʿda

ٱللَّهِ

(The) Promise of Allah

l-lahi

حَقًّۭا ۚ

(is) true

ḥaqqan

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلْعَزِيزُ

(is) the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzu

ٱلْحَكِيمُ

the All-Wise

l-ḥakīmu

٩

Wherein they abide eternally; [it is] the promise of Allāh [which is] truth. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

— Saheeh International

خَلَقَ

He created

khalaqa

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

عَمَدٍۢ

pillars

ʿamadin

تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ

that you see

tarawnahā

وَأَلْقَىٰ

and has cast

wa-alqā

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

رَوَٰسِىَ

firm mountains

rawāsiya

أَن

lest

an

تَمِيدَ

it (might) shake

tamīda

بِكُمْ

with you

bikum

وَبَثَّ

and He dispersed

wabatha

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

مِن

from

min

كُلِّ

every

kulli

دَآبَّةٍۢ ۚ

creature

dābbatin

وَأَنزَلْنَا

And We sent down

wa-anzalnā

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

مَآءًۭ

water

māan

فَأَنۢبَتْنَا

then We caused to grow

fa-anbatnā

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

مِن

of

min

كُلِّ

every

kulli

زَوْجٍۢ

kind

zawjin

كَرِيمٍ

noble

karīmin

١٠

He created the heavens without pillars that you see and has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with you, and dispersed therein from every creature. And We sent down rain from the sky and made grow therein [plants] of every noble kind.

— Saheeh International

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

خَلْقُ

(is the) creation

khalqu

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

فَأَرُونِى

So show Me

fa-arūnī

مَاذَا

what

mādhā

خَلَقَ

have created

khalaqa

ٱلَّذِينَ

those

alladhīna

مِن

besides Him

min

دُونِهِۦ ۚ

besides Him

dūnihi

بَلِ

Nay

bali

ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimūna

فِى

(are) in

ضَلَـٰلٍۢ

error

ḍalālin

مُّبِينٍۢ

clear

mubīnin

١١

This is the creation of Allāh. So show Me what those other than Him have created. Rather, the wrongdoers are in clear error.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And verily

walaqad

ءَاتَيْنَا

We gave

ātaynā

لُقْمَـٰنَ

Luqman

luq'māna

ٱلْحِكْمَةَ

the wisdom

l-ḥik'mata

أَنِ

that

ani

ٱشْكُرْ

Be grateful

ush'kur

لِلَّهِ ۚ

to Allah

lillahi

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يَشْكُرْ

(is) grateful

yashkur

فَإِنَّمَا

then only

fa-innamā

يَشْكُرُ

he is grateful

yashkuru

لِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ

for himself

linafsihi

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

كَفَرَ

(is) ungrateful

kafara

فَإِنَّ

then indeed

fa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

غَنِىٌّ

(is) Free of need

ghaniyyun

حَمِيدٌۭ

Praiseworthy

ḥamīdun

١٢

And We had certainly given Luqmān wisdom [and said], "Be grateful to Allāh." And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favor] - then indeed, Allāh is Free of need and Praiseworthy.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

قَالَ

said

qāla

لُقْمَـٰنُ

Luqman

luq'mānu

لِٱبْنِهِۦ

to his son

li-ib'nihi

وَهُوَ

while he

wahuwa

يَعِظُهُۥ

(was) instructing him

yaʿiẓuhu

يَـٰبُنَىَّ

O my son

yābunayya

لَا

(Do) not

تُشْرِكْ

associate partners

tush'rik

بِٱللَّهِ ۖ

with Allah

bil-lahi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلشِّرْكَ

associating partners

l-shir'ka

لَظُلْمٌ

(is) surely an injustice

laẓul'mun

عَظِيمٌۭ

great

ʿaẓīmun

١٣

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Luqmān said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allāh. Indeed, association [with Him] is great injustice."

— Saheeh International

وَوَصَّيْنَا

And We have enjoined

wawaṣṣaynā

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ

(upon) man

l-insāna

بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ

for his parents

biwālidayhi

حَمَلَتْهُ

carried him

ḥamalathu

أُمُّهُۥ

his mother

ummuhu

وَهْنًا

(in) weakness

wahnan

عَلَىٰ

upon

ʿalā

وَهْنٍۢ

weakness

wahnin

وَفِصَـٰلُهُۥ

and his weaning

wafiṣāluhu

فِى

(is) in

عَامَيْنِ

two years

ʿāmayni

أَنِ

that

ani

ٱشْكُرْ

Be grateful

ush'kur

لِى

to Me

وَلِوَٰلِدَيْكَ

and to your parents

waliwālidayka

إِلَىَّ

towards Me

ilayya

ٱلْمَصِيرُ

(is) the destination

l-maṣīru

١٤

And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

But if

wa-in

جَـٰهَدَاكَ

they strive against you

jāhadāka

عَلَىٰٓ

on

ʿalā

أَن

that

an

تُشْرِكَ

you associate partners

tush'rika

بِى

with Me

مَا

what

لَيْسَ

not

laysa

لَكَ

you have

laka

بِهِۦ

of it

bihi

عِلْمٌۭ

any knowledge

ʿil'mun

فَلَا

then (do) not

falā

تُطِعْهُمَا ۖ

obey both of them

tuṭiʿ'humā

وَصَاحِبْهُمَا

But accompany them

waṣāḥib'humā

فِى

in

ٱلدُّنْيَا

the world

l-dun'yā

مَعْرُوفًۭا ۖ

(with) kindness

maʿrūfan

وَٱتَّبِعْ

and follow

wa-ittabiʿ

سَبِيلَ

(the) path

sabīla

مَنْ

(of him) who

man

أَنَابَ

turns

anāba

إِلَىَّ ۚ

to Me

ilayya

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

إِلَىَّ

towards Me

ilayya

مَرْجِعُكُمْ

(is) your return

marjiʿukum

فَأُنَبِّئُكُم

then I will inform you

fa-unabbi-ukum

بِمَا

of what

bimā

كُنتُمْ

you used (to)

kuntum

تَعْمَلُونَ

do

taʿmalūna

١٥

But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge,1 do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰبُنَىَّ

O my son

yābunayya

إِنَّهَآ

Indeed it

innahā

إِن

if

in

تَكُ

it be

taku

مِثْقَالَ

(the) weight

mith'qāla

حَبَّةٍۢ

(of) a grain

ḥabbatin

مِّنْ

of

min

خَرْدَلٍۢ

a mustard seed

khardalin

فَتَكُن

and it be

fatakun

فِى

in

صَخْرَةٍ

a rock

ṣakhratin

أَوْ

or

aw

فِى

in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

أَوْ

or

aw

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

يَأْتِ

Allah will bring it forth

yati

بِهَا

Allah will bring it forth

bihā

ٱللَّهُ ۚ

Allah will bring it forth

l-lahu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَطِيفٌ

(is) All-Subtle

laṭīfun

خَبِيرٌۭ

All-Aware

khabīrun

١٦

[And Luqmān said], "O my son, indeed if it [i.e., a wrong] should be the weight of a mustard seed and should be within a rock or [anywhere] in the heavens or in the earth, Allāh will bring it forth. Indeed, Allāh is Subtle1 and Aware.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰبُنَىَّ

O my son

yābunayya

أَقِمِ

Establish

aqimi

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

the prayer

l-ṣalata

وَأْمُرْ

and enjoin

wamur

بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ

[with] the right

bil-maʿrūfi

وَٱنْهَ

and forbid

wa-in'ha

عَنِ

from

ʿani

ٱلْمُنكَرِ

the wrong

l-munkari

وَٱصْبِرْ

and be patient

wa-iṣ'bir

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

مَآ

what

أَصَابَكَ ۖ

befalls you

aṣābaka

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

مِنْ

(is) of

min

عَزْمِ

the matters requiring determination

ʿazmi

ٱلْأُمُورِ

the matters requiring determination

l-umūri

١٧

O my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed, [all] that is of the matters [requiring] resolve.1

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تُصَعِّرْ

turn

tuṣaʿʿir

خَدَّكَ

your cheek

khaddaka

لِلنَّاسِ

from men

lilnnāsi

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تَمْشِ

walk

tamshi

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

مَرَحًا ۖ

exultantly

maraḥan

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَا

(does) not

يُحِبُّ

like

yuḥibbu

كُلَّ

every

kulla

مُخْتَالٍۢ

self-conceited

mukh'tālin

فَخُورٍۢ

boaster

fakhūrin

١٨

And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people1 and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allāh does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.

— Saheeh International

وَٱقْصِدْ

And be moderate

wa-iq'ṣid

فِى

in

مَشْيِكَ

your pace

mashyika

وَٱغْضُضْ

and lower

wa-ugh'ḍuḍ

مِن

[of]

min

صَوْتِكَ ۚ

your voice

ṣawtika

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

أَنكَرَ

(the) harshest

ankara

ٱلْأَصْوَٰتِ

(of all) sounds

l-aṣwāti

لَصَوْتُ

(is) surely (the) voice

laṣawtu

ٱلْحَمِيرِ

(of) the donkeys

l-ḥamīri

١٩

And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys."

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

تَرَوْا۟

you see

taraw

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

سَخَّرَ

has subjected

sakhara

لَكُم

to you

lakum

مَّا

whatever

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَمَا

and whatever

wamā

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

وَأَسْبَغَ

and amply bestowed

wa-asbagha

عَلَيْكُمْ

upon you

ʿalaykum

نِعَمَهُۥ

His Bounties

niʿamahu

ظَـٰهِرَةًۭ

apparent

ẓāhiratan

وَبَاطِنَةًۭ ۗ

and hidden

wabāṭinatan

وَمِنَ

But of

wamina

ٱلنَّاسِ

the people

l-nāsi

مَن

(is he) who

man

يُجَـٰدِلُ

disputes

yujādilu

فِى

about

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

عِلْمٍۢ

knowledge

ʿil'min

وَلَا

and not

walā

هُدًۭى

guidance

hudan

وَلَا

and not

walā

كِتَـٰبٍۢ

a book

kitābin

مُّنِيرٍۢ

enlightening

munīrin

٢٠

Do you not see that Allāh has made subject to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth and amply bestowed upon you His favors, [both] apparent and unapparent? But of the people is he who disputes about Allāh without knowledge or guidance or an enlightening Book [from Him].

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

قِيلَ

it is said

qīla

لَهُمُ

to them

lahumu

ٱتَّبِعُوا۟

Follow

ittabiʿū

مَآ

what

أَنزَلَ

Allah (has) revealed

anzala

ٱللَّهُ

Allah (has) revealed

l-lahu

قَالُوا۟

they say

qālū

بَلْ

Nay

bal

نَتَّبِعُ

we will follow

nattabiʿu

مَا

what

وَجَدْنَا

we found

wajadnā

عَلَيْهِ

on it

ʿalayhi

ءَابَآءَنَآ ۚ

our forefathers

ābāanā

أَوَلَوْ

Even if

awalaw

كَانَ

Shaitaan was

kāna

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ

Shaitaan was

l-shayṭānu

يَدْعُوهُمْ

(to) call them

yadʿūhum

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

عَذَابِ

(the) punishment

ʿadhābi

ٱلسَّعِيرِ

(of) the Blaze

l-saʿīri

٢١

And when it is said to them, "Follow what Allāh has revealed," they say, "Rather, we will follow that upon which we found our fathers." Even if Satan was inviting them to the punishment of the Blaze?

— Saheeh International

۞ وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يُسْلِمْ

submits

yus'lim

وَجْهَهُۥٓ

his face

wajhahu

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

وَهُوَ

while he

wahuwa

مُحْسِنٌۭ

(is) a good-doer

muḥ'sinun

فَقَدِ

then indeed

faqadi

ٱسْتَمْسَكَ

he has grasped

is'tamsaka

بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ

the handhold

bil-ʿur'wati

ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ ۗ

the most trustworthy

l-wuth'qā

وَإِلَى

And to

wa-ilā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

عَـٰقِبَةُ

(is the) end

ʿāqibatu

ٱلْأُمُورِ

(of) the matters

l-umūri

٢٢

And whoever submits his face [i.e., self] to Allāh while he is a doer of good - then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. And to Allāh will be the outcome of [all] matters.

— Saheeh International

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

كَفَرَ

disbelieves

kafara

فَلَا

let not

falā

يَحْزُنكَ

grieve you

yaḥzunka

كُفْرُهُۥٓ ۚ

his disbelief

kuf'ruhu

إِلَيْنَا

To Us

ilaynā

مَرْجِعُهُمْ

(is) their return

marjiʿuhum

فَنُنَبِّئُهُم

then We will inform them

fanunabbi-uhum

بِمَا

of what

bimā

عَمِلُوٓا۟ ۚ

they did

ʿamilū

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَلِيمٌۢ

(is) the All-Knower

ʿalīmun

بِذَاتِ

of what

bidhāti

ٱلصُّدُورِ

(is in) the breasts

l-ṣudūri

٢٣

And whoever has disbelieved - let not his disbelief grieve you. To Us is their return, and We will inform them of what they did. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of that within the breasts.

— Saheeh International

نُمَتِّعُهُمْ

We grant them enjoyment

numattiʿuhum

قَلِيلًۭا

(for) a little

qalīlan

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

نَضْطَرُّهُمْ

We will force them

naḍṭarruhum

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

عَذَابٍ

a punishment

ʿadhābin

غَلِيظٍۢ

severe

ghalīẓin

٢٤

We grant them enjoyment for a little; then We will force them to a massive punishment.

— Saheeh International

وَلَئِن

And if

wala-in

سَأَلْتَهُم

you ask them

sa-altahum

مَّنْ

Who

man

خَلَقَ

created

khalaqa

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

لَيَقُولُنَّ

They will surely say

layaqūlunna

ٱللَّهُ ۚ

Allah

l-lahu

قُلِ

Say

quli

ٱلْحَمْدُ

All praises

l-ḥamdu

لِلَّهِ ۚ

(are) for Allah

lillahi

بَلْ

But

bal

أَكْثَرُهُمْ

most of them

aktharuhum

لَا

(do) not

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

٢٥

And if you asked them, "Who created the heavens and earth?" they would surely say, "Allāh." Say, "[All] praise is [due] to Allāh"; but most of them do not know.

— Saheeh International

لِلَّهِ

To Allah (belongs)

lillahi

مَا

whatever

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلْغَنِىُّ

(is) Free of need

l-ghaniyu

ٱلْحَمِيدُ

the Praiseworthy

l-ḥamīdu

٢٦

To Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth. Indeed, Allāh is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

أَنَّمَا

whatever

annamā

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

مِن

of

min

شَجَرَةٍ

(the) trees

shajaratin

أَقْلَـٰمٌۭ

(were) pens

aqlāmun

وَٱلْبَحْرُ

and the sea

wal-baḥru

يَمُدُّهُۥ

(to) add to it

yamudduhu

مِنۢ

after it

min

بَعْدِهِۦ

after it

baʿdihi

سَبْعَةُ

seven

sabʿatu

أَبْحُرٍۢ

seas

abḥurin

مَّا

not

نَفِدَتْ

would be exhausted

nafidat

كَلِمَـٰتُ

(the) Words

kalimātu

ٱللَّهِ ۗ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَزِيزٌ

(is) All-Mighty

ʿazīzun

حَكِيمٌۭ

All-Wise

ḥakīmun

٢٧

And if whatever trees upon the earth were pens and the sea [was ink], replenished thereafter by seven [more] seas, the words1 of Allāh would not be exhausted. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.

— Saheeh International

مَّا

Not

خَلْقُكُمْ

(is) your creation

khalqukum

وَلَا

and not

walā

بَعْثُكُمْ

your resurrection

baʿthukum

إِلَّا

but

illā

كَنَفْسٍۢ

as a soul

kanafsin

وَٰحِدَةٍ ۗ

single

wāḥidatin

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

سَمِيعٌۢ

(is) All-Hearer

samīʿun

بَصِيرٌ

All-Seer

baṣīrun

٢٨

Your creation and your resurrection will not be but as that of a single soul.1 Indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Seeing.

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

تَرَ

you see

tara

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يُولِجُ

causes to enter

yūliju

ٱلَّيْلَ

the night

al-layla

فِى

into

ٱلنَّهَارِ

the day

l-nahāri

وَيُولِجُ

and causes to enter

wayūliju

ٱلنَّهَارَ

the day

l-nahāra

فِى

into

ٱلَّيْلِ

the night

al-layli

وَسَخَّرَ

and has subjected

wasakhara

ٱلشَّمْسَ

the sun

l-shamsa

وَٱلْقَمَرَ

and the moon

wal-qamara

كُلٌّۭ

each

kullun

يَجْرِىٓ

moving

yajrī

إِلَىٰٓ

for

ilā

أَجَلٍۢ

a term

ajalin

مُّسَمًّۭى

appointed

musamman

وَأَنَّ

and that

wa-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

بِمَا

of what

bimā

تَعْمَلُونَ

you do

taʿmalūna

خَبِيرٌۭ

(is) All-Aware

khabīrun

٢٩

Do you not see [i.e., know] that Allāh causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term, and that Allāh, of whatever you do, is Aware?

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

بِأَنَّ

(is) because

bi-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلْحَقُّ

(is) the Truth

l-ḥaqu

وَأَنَّ

and that

wa-anna

مَا

what

يَدْعُونَ

they call

yadʿūna

مِن

besides Him

min

دُونِهِ

besides Him

dūnihi

ٱلْبَـٰطِلُ

(is) [the] falsehood

l-bāṭilu

وَأَنَّ

and that

wa-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلْعَلِىُّ

(is) the Most High

l-ʿaliyu

ٱلْكَبِيرُ

the Most Great

l-kabīru

٣٠

That is because Allāh is the True Reality, and that what they call upon1 other than Him is falsehood, and because Allāh is the Most High, the Grand.

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

تَرَ

you see

tara

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱلْفُلْكَ

the ships

l-ful'ka

تَجْرِى

sail

tajrī

فِى

through

ٱلْبَحْرِ

the sea

l-baḥri

بِنِعْمَتِ

by (the) Grace

biniʿ'mati

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

لِيُرِيَكُم

that He may show you

liyuriyakum

مِّنْ

of

min

ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ

His Signs

āyātihi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

surely (are) Signs

laāyātin

لِّكُلِّ

for everyone

likulli

صَبَّارٍۢ

(who is) patient

ṣabbārin

شَكُورٍۢ

grateful

shakūrin

٣١

Do you not see that ships sail through the sea by the favor of Allāh that He may show you of His signs? Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

غَشِيَهُم

covers them

ghashiyahum

مَّوْجٌۭ

a wave

mawjun

كَٱلظُّلَلِ

like canopies

kal-ẓulali

دَعَوُا۟

they call

daʿawū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

مُخْلِصِينَ

(being) sincere

mukh'liṣīna

لَهُ

to Him

lahu

ٱلدِّينَ

(in) religion

l-dīna

فَلَمَّا

But when

falammā

نَجَّىٰهُمْ

He delivers them

najjāhum

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلْبَرِّ

the land

l-bari

فَمِنْهُم

then among them

famin'hum

مُّقْتَصِدٌۭ ۚ

(some are) moderate

muq'taṣidun

وَمَا

And not

wamā

يَجْحَدُ

deny

yajḥadu

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ

Our Signs

biāyātinā

إِلَّا

except

illā

كُلُّ

every

kullu

خَتَّارٍۢ

traitor

khattārin

كَفُورٍۢ

ungrateful

kafūrin

٣٢

And when waves come over them like canopies, they supplicate Allāh, sincere to Him in religion [i.e., faith]. But when He delivers them to the land, there are [some] of them who are moderate [in faith]. And none rejects Our signs except everyone treacherous and ungrateful.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O

yāayyuhā

ٱلنَّاسُ

mankind

l-nāsu

ٱتَّقُوا۟

Fear

ittaqū

رَبَّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbakum

وَٱخْشَوْا۟

and fear

wa-ikh'shaw

يَوْمًۭا

a Day

yawman

لَّا

not

يَجْزِى

can avail

yajzī

وَالِدٌ

a father

wālidun

عَن

[for]

ʿan

وَلَدِهِۦ

his son

waladihi

وَلَا

and not

walā

مَوْلُودٌ

a son

mawlūdun

هُوَ

he

huwa

جَازٍ

(can) avail

jāzin

عَن

[for]

ʿan

وَالِدِهِۦ

his father

wālidihi

شَيْـًٔا ۚ

anything

shayan

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

وَعْدَ

(the) Promise

waʿda

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

حَقٌّۭ ۖ

(is) True

ḥaqqun

فَلَا

so let not deceive you

falā

تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ

so let not deceive you

taghurrannakumu

ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ

the life

l-ḥayatu

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَلَا

and let not deceive you

walā

يَغُرَّنَّكُم

and let not deceive you

yaghurrannakum

بِٱللَّهِ

about Allah

bil-lahi

ٱلْغَرُورُ

the deceiver

l-gharūru

٣٣

O mankind, fear your Lord and fear a Day when no father will avail his son, nor will a son avail his father at all. Indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth, so let not the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allāh by the Deceiver [i.e., Satan].

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عِندَهُۥ

with Him

ʿindahu

عِلْمُ

(is the) knowledge

ʿil'mu

ٱلسَّاعَةِ

(of) the Hour

l-sāʿati

وَيُنَزِّلُ

and He sends down

wayunazzilu

ٱلْغَيْثَ

the rain

l-ghaytha

وَيَعْلَمُ

and knows

wayaʿlamu

مَا

what

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْحَامِ ۖ

the wombs

l-arḥāmi

وَمَا

And not

wamā

تَدْرِى

knows

tadrī

نَفْسٌۭ

any soul

nafsun

مَّاذَا

what

mādhā

تَكْسِبُ

it will earn

taksibu

غَدًۭا ۖ

tomorrow

ghadan

وَمَا

and not

wamā

تَدْرِى

knows

tadrī

نَفْسٌۢ

any soul

nafsun

بِأَىِّ

in what

bi-ayyi

أَرْضٍۢ

land

arḍin

تَمُوتُ ۚ

it will die

tamūtu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَلِيمٌ

(is) All-Knower

ʿalīmun

خَبِيرٌۢ

All-Aware

khabīrun

٣٤

Indeed, Allāh [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs.1 And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul perceives in what land it will die. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing and Aware.
