هُوَ He huwa (is) the One Who alladhī revealed anzala to you ʿalayka the Book l-kitāba of it min'hu (are) Verses āyātun absolutely clear muḥ'kamātun they (are) hunna the foundation ummu (of) the Book l-kitābi and others wa-ukharu (are) allegorical mutashābihātun Then as for fa-ammā those alladhīna in fī their hearts qulūbihim (is) perversity zayghun [so] they follow fayattabiʿūna what mā (is) allegorical tashābaha of it min'hu seeking ib'tighāa [the] discord l-fit'nati and seeking wa-ib'tighāa its interpretation tawīlihi And not wamā knows yaʿlamu its interpretation tawīlahu except illā Allah l-lahu And those firm wal-rāsikhūna in fī [the] knowledge l-ʿil'mi they say yaqūlūna We believe āmannā in it bihi All kullun (is) min from ʿindi our Lord rabbinā And not wamā will take heed yadhakkaru except illā men ulū (of) understanding l-albābi
It is He who has sent down to you, [O Muḥammad], the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise - they are the foundation of the Book - and others unspecific.1 As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them]. And no one knows its [true] interpretation except Allāh. But those firm in knowledge say, "We believe in it. All [of it] is from our Lord." And no one will be reminded except those of understanding.
