وَإِذْ And when wa-idh said qālati the Angels l-malāikatu O Maryam yāmaryamu Indeed inna Allah l-laha (has) chosen you iṣ'ṭafāki and purified you waṭahharaki and chosen you wa-iṣ'ṭafāki over ʿalā (the) women nisāi (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
And [mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allāh has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds.
يَـٰمَرْيَمُ O Maryam yāmaryamu Be obedient uq'nutī to your Lord lirabbiki and prostrate wa-us'judī and bow down wa-ir'kaʿī with maʿa those who bow down l-rākiʿīna
O Mary, be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer]."
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika (is) from min (the) news anbāi (of) the unseen l-ghaybi We reveal it nūḥīhi to you ilayka And not wamā you were kunta with them ladayhim when idh they cast yul'qūna their pens aqlāmahum (as to) which of them ayyuhum takes charge (of) yakfulu Maryam maryama and not wamā you were kunta with them ladayhim when idh they (were) disputing yakhtaṣimūna
That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, [O Muḥammad]. And you were not with them when they cast their pens as to which of them should be responsible for Mary. Nor were you with them when they disputed.
