هُنَالِكَ There only hunālika invoked daʿā Zakariya zakariyyā his Lord rabbahu he said qāla My Lord rabbi grant hab [for] me lī from min Yourself ladunka offspring dhurriyyatan pure ṭayyibatan Indeed, You innaka (are) All-Hearer samīʿu (of) the prayer l-duʿāi
At that, Zechariah called upon his Lord, saying, "My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication."
فَنَادَتْهُ Then called him fanādathu the Angels l-malāikatu when he wahuwa (was) standing qāimun praying yuṣallī in fī the prayer chamber l-miḥ'rābi Indeed anna Allah l-laha gives you glad tidings yubashiruka of Yahya biyaḥyā confirming muṣaddiqan [of] a Word bikalimatin from mina Allah l-lahi and a noble wasayyidan and chaste waḥaṣūran and a Prophet wanabiyyan among mina the righteous l-ṣāliḥīna
So the angels called him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, "Indeed, Allāh gives you good tidings of John, confirming a word from Allāh and [who will be] honorable, abstaining [from women], and a prophet from among the righteous."
قَالَ He said qāla My Lord rabbi how annā can (there) be yakūnu for me lī a son ghulāmun and verily waqad has reached me balaghaniya [the] old age l-kibaru and my wife wa-im'ra-atī (is) [a] barren ʿāqirun He said qāla Thus kadhālika Allah l-lahu does yafʿalu what mā He wills yashāu
He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when I have reached old age and my wife is barren?" He [the angel] said, "Such is Allāh; He does what He wills."
قَالَ He said qāla My Lord rabbi make ij'ʿal for me lī a sign āyatan He said qāla your sign āyatuka (is) that not allā you will speak tukallima (to) the people l-nāsa (for) three thalāthata days ayyāmin except illā (with) gestures ramzan And remember wa-udh'kur your Lord rabbaka much kathīran and glorify (Him) wasabbiḥ in the evening bil-ʿashiyi and (in) the morning wal-ib'kāri
He said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not [be able to] speak to the people for three days except by gesture. And remember your Lord much and exalt [Him with praise] in the evening and the morning."
