ضُرِبَتْ Struck ḍuribat on them ʿalayhimu the humiliation l-dhilatu wherever ayna that mā they are found thuqifū except illā with a rope biḥablin from mina Allah l-lahi and a rope waḥablin from mina the people l-nāsi And they incurred wabāū wrath bighaḍabin from mina Allah l-lahi and struck waḍuribat on them ʿalayhimu the poverty l-maskanatu That dhālika (is) because bi-annahum they used to kānū disbelieve yakfurūna in (the) Verses biāyāti (of) Allah l-lahi and they killed wayaqtulūna the Prophets l-anbiyāa without bighayri right ḥaqqin That dhālika (is) because bimā they disobeyed ʿaṣaw and they used to wakānū transgress yaʿtadūna
They have been put under humiliation [by Allāh] wherever they are overtaken, except for a rope [i.e., covenant] from Allāh and a rope [i.e., treaty] from the people [i.e., the Muslims].1 And they have drawn upon themselves anger from Allāh and have been put under destitution. That is because they disbelieved in [i.e., rejected] the verses of Allāh and killed the prophets without right. That is because they disobeyed and [habitually] transgressed.
