طسٓ ۚ

Ta Seen

tta-seen

تِلْكَ

These

til'ka

ءَايَـٰتُ

(are the) Verses

āyātu

ٱلْقُرْءَانِ

(of) the Quran

l-qur'āni

وَكِتَابٍۢ

and a Book

wakitābin

مُّبِينٍ

clear

mubīnin

١

Ṭā, Seen. These are the verses of the Qur’ān [i.e., recitation] and a clear Book

— Saheeh International

هُدًۭى

A guidance

hudan

وَبُشْرَىٰ

and glad tidings

wabush'rā

لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

for the believers

lil'mu'minīna

٢

As guidance and good tidings for the believers

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

يُقِيمُونَ

establish

yuqīmūna

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

the prayer

l-ṣalata

وَيُؤْتُونَ

and give

wayu'tūna

ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ

zakah

l-zakata

وَهُم

and they

wahum

بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

in the Hereafter

bil-ākhirati

هُمْ

[they]

hum

يُوقِنُونَ

believe with certainty

yūqinūna

٣

Who establish prayer and give zakāh, and of the Hereafter they are certain [in faith].

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

in the Hereafter

bil-ākhirati

زَيَّنَّا

We have made fair-seeming

zayyannā

لَهُمْ

to them

lahum

أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ

their deeds

aʿmālahum

فَهُمْ

so they

fahum

يَعْمَهُونَ

wander blindly

yaʿmahūna

٤

Indeed, for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, We have made pleasing to them their deeds, so they wander blindly.

— Saheeh International

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

ٱلَّذِينَ

(are) the ones

alladhīna

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

سُوٓءُ

(is) an evil

sūu

ٱلْعَذَابِ

[the] punishment

l-ʿadhābi

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

فِى

in

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

هُمُ

[they]

humu

ٱلْأَخْسَرُونَ

(will be) the greatest losers

l-akhsarūna

٥

Those are the ones for whom there will be the worst of punishment, and in the Hereafter they are the greatest losers.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّكَ

And indeed, you

wa-innaka

لَتُلَقَّى

surely, receive

latulaqqā

ٱلْقُرْءَانَ

the Quran

l-qur'āna

مِن

from [near]

min

لَّدُنْ

from [near]

ladun

حَكِيمٍ

the All-Wise

ḥakīmin

عَلِيمٍ

the All-Knower

ʿalīmin

٦

And indeed, [O Muḥammad], you receive the Qur’ān from one Wise and Knowing.

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

قَالَ

said

qāla

مُوسَىٰ

Musa

mūsā

لِأَهْلِهِۦٓ

to his family

li-ahlihi

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed, I

innī

ءَانَسْتُ

perceive

ānastu

نَارًۭا

a fire

nāran

سَـَٔاتِيكُم

I will bring you

saātīkum

مِّنْهَا

from it

min'hā

بِخَبَرٍ

some information

bikhabarin

أَوْ

or

aw

ءَاتِيكُم

I will bring you

ātīkum

بِشِهَابٍۢ

a torch

bishihābin

قَبَسٍۢ

burning

qabasin

لَّعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تَصْطَلُونَ

warm yourselves

taṣṭalūna

٧

[Mention] when Moses said to his family, "Indeed, I have perceived a fire. I will bring you from there information or will bring you a burning torch that you may warm yourselves."

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّا

But when

falammā

جَآءَهَا

he came to it

jāahā

نُودِىَ

he was called

nūdiya

أَنۢ

[that]

an

بُورِكَ

Blessed is

būrika

مَن

who

man

فِى

(is) at

ٱلنَّارِ

the fire

l-nāri

وَمَنْ

and whoever

waman

حَوْلَهَا

(is) around it

ḥawlahā

وَسُبْحَـٰنَ

And glory be

wasub'ḥāna

ٱللَّهِ

(to) Allah

l-lahi

رَبِّ

(the) Lord

rabbi

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

(of) the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

٨

But when he came to it, he was called, "Blessed is whoever is at the fire and whoever is around it. And exalted is Allāh, Lord of the worlds.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ

O Musa

yāmūsā

إِنَّهُۥٓ

Indeed

innahu

أَنَا

I Am

anā

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

ٱلْعَزِيزُ

the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzu

ٱلْحَكِيمُ

the All-Wise

l-ḥakīmu

٩

O Moses, indeed it is I - Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Wise."

— Saheeh International

وَأَلْقِ

And, "Throw

wa-alqi

عَصَاكَ ۚ

your staff

ʿaṣāka

فَلَمَّا

But when

falammā

رَءَاهَا

he saw it

raāhā

تَهْتَزُّ

moving

tahtazzu

كَأَنَّهَا

as if it

ka-annahā

جَآنٌّۭ

(were) a snake

jānnun

وَلَّىٰ

he turned back

wallā

مُدْبِرًۭا

(in) flight

mud'biran

وَلَمْ

and (did) not

walam

يُعَقِّبْ ۚ

look back

yuʿaqqib

يَـٰمُوسَىٰ

O Musa

yāmūsā

لَا

(Do) not

تَخَفْ

fear

takhaf

إِنِّى

Indeed, [I]

innī

لَا

(do) not

يَخَافُ

fear

yakhāfu

لَدَىَّ

(in) My presence

ladayya

ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ

the Messengers

l-mur'salūna

١٠

And [he was told], "Throw down your staff." But when he saw it writhing as if it were a snake, he turned in flight and did not return. [Allāh said], "O Moses, fear not. Indeed, in My presence the messengers do not fear.

— Saheeh International

إِلَّا

Except

illā

مَن

who

man

ظَلَمَ

wrongs

ẓalama

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

بَدَّلَ

substitutes

baddala

حُسْنًۢا

good

ḥus'nan

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

سُوٓءٍۢ

evil

sūin

فَإِنِّى

then indeed, I Am

fa-innī

غَفُورٌۭ

Oft-Forgiving

ghafūrun

رَّحِيمٌۭ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

١١

Otherwise, he who wrongs, then substitutes good after evil - indeed, I am Forgiving and Merciful.

— Saheeh International

وَأَدْخِلْ

And enter

wa-adkhil

يَدَكَ

your hand

yadaka

فِى

into

جَيْبِكَ

your bosom

jaybika

تَخْرُجْ

it will come forth

takhruj

بَيْضَآءَ

white

bayḍāa

مِنْ

without

min

غَيْرِ

without

ghayri

سُوٓءٍۢ ۖ

harm

sūin

فِى

(These are) among

تِسْعِ

nine

tis'ʿi

ءَايَـٰتٍ

signs

āyātin

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

فِرْعَوْنَ

Firaun

fir'ʿawna

وَقَوْمِهِۦٓ ۚ

and his people

waqawmihi

إِنَّهُمْ

Indeed, they

innahum

كَانُوا۟

are

kānū

قَوْمًۭا

a people

qawman

فَـٰسِقِينَ

defiantly disobedient

fāsiqīna

١٢

And put your hand into the opening of your garment [at the breast]; it will come out white without disease. [These are] among the nine signs [you will take] to Pharaoh and his people. Indeed, they have been a people defiantly disobedient."

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّا

But when

falammā

جَآءَتْهُمْ

came to them

jāathum

ءَايَـٰتُنَا

Our Signs

āyātunā

مُبْصِرَةًۭ

visible

mub'ṣiratan

قَالُوا۟

they said

qālū

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

سِحْرٌۭ

(is) a magic

siḥ'run

مُّبِينٌۭ

manifest

mubīnun

١٣

But when there came to them Our visible signs, they said, "This is obvious magic."

— Saheeh International

وَجَحَدُوا۟

And they rejected

wajaḥadū

بِهَا

them

bihā

وَٱسْتَيْقَنَتْهَآ

though were convinced with them (signs)

wa-is'tayqanathā

أَنفُسُهُمْ

themselves

anfusuhum

ظُلْمًۭا

(out of) injustice

ẓul'man

وَعُلُوًّۭا ۚ

and haughtiness

waʿuluwwan

فَٱنظُرْ

So see

fa-unẓur

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عَـٰقِبَةُ

(the) end

ʿāqibatu

ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ

(of) the corrupters

l-muf'sidīna

١٤

And they rejected them, while their [inner] selves were convinced thereof, out of injustice and haughtiness. So see how was the end of the corrupters.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And verily

walaqad

ءَاتَيْنَا

We gave

ātaynā

دَاوُۥدَ

Dawood

dāwūda

وَسُلَيْمَـٰنَ

and Sulaiman

wasulaymāna

عِلْمًۭا ۖ

knowledge

ʿil'man

وَقَالَا

and they said

waqālā

ٱلْحَمْدُ

Praise be

l-ḥamdu

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

ٱلَّذِى

the One Who

alladhī

فَضَّلَنَا

has favored us

faḍḍalanā

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

كَثِيرٍۢ

many

kathīrin

مِّنْ

of

min

عِبَادِهِ

His servants

ʿibādihi

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the believers

l-mu'minīna

١٥

And We had certainly given to David and Solomon knowledge, and they said, "Praise [is due] to Allāh, who has favored us over many of His believing servants."

— Saheeh International

وَوَرِثَ

And inherited

wawaritha

سُلَيْمَـٰنُ

Sulaiman

sulaymānu

دَاوُۥدَ ۖ

Dawood

dāwūda

وَقَالَ

And he said

waqāla

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O

yāayyuhā

ٱلنَّاسُ

people

l-nāsu

عُلِّمْنَا

We have been taught

ʿullim'nā

مَنطِقَ

(the) language

manṭiqa

ٱلطَّيْرِ

(of) the birds

l-ṭayri

وَأُوتِينَا

and we have been given

waūtīnā

مِن

from

min

كُلِّ

every

kulli

شَىْءٍ ۖ

thing

shayin

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

لَهُوَ

surely, it

lahuwa

ٱلْفَضْلُ

(is) the favor

l-faḍlu

ٱلْمُبِينُ

evident

l-mubīnu

١٦

And Solomon inherited David. He said, "O people, we have been taught the language of birds, and we have been given from all things. Indeed, this is evident bounty."

— Saheeh International

وَحُشِرَ

And were gathered

waḥushira

لِسُلَيْمَـٰنَ

for Sulaiman

lisulaymāna

جُنُودُهُۥ

his hosts

junūduhu

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْجِنِّ

jinn

l-jini

وَٱلْإِنسِ

and the men

wal-insi

وَٱلطَّيْرِ

and the birds

wal-ṭayri

فَهُمْ

and they

fahum

يُوزَعُونَ

(were) set in rows

yūzaʿūna

١٧

And gathered for Solomon were his soldiers of the jinn and men and birds, and they were [marching] in rows

— Saheeh International

حَتَّىٰٓ

Until

ḥattā

إِذَآ

when

idhā

أَتَوْا۟

they came

ataw

عَلَىٰ

to

ʿalā

وَادِ

(the) valley

wādi

ٱلنَّمْلِ

(of) the ants

l-namli

قَالَتْ

said

qālat

نَمْلَةٌۭ

an ant

namlatun

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O

yāayyuhā

ٱلنَّمْلُ

ants

l-namlu

ٱدْخُلُوا۟

Enter

ud'khulū

مَسَـٰكِنَكُمْ

your dwellings

masākinakum

لَا

lest not crush you

يَحْطِمَنَّكُمْ

lest not crush you

yaḥṭimannakum

سُلَيْمَـٰنُ

Sulaiman

sulaymānu

وَجُنُودُهُۥ

and his hosts

wajunūduhu

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

لَا

(do) not perceive

يَشْعُرُونَ

(do) not perceive

yashʿurūna

١٨

Until, when they came upon the valley of the ants, an ant said, "O ants, enter your dwellings that you not be crushed by Solomon and his soldiers while they perceive not."

— Saheeh International

فَتَبَسَّمَ

So he smiled

fatabassama

ضَاحِكًۭا

laughing

ḍāḥikan

مِّن

at

min

قَوْلِهَا

her speech

qawlihā

وَقَالَ

and said

waqāla

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

أَوْزِعْنِىٓ

Grant me (the) power

awziʿ'nī

أَنْ

that

an

أَشْكُرَ

I may thank You

ashkura

نِعْمَتَكَ

(for) Your Favor

niʿ'mataka

ٱلَّتِىٓ

which

allatī

أَنْعَمْتَ

You have bestowed

anʿamta

عَلَىَّ

on me

ʿalayya

وَعَلَىٰ

and on

waʿalā

وَٰلِدَىَّ

my parents

wālidayya

وَأَنْ

and that

wa-an

أَعْمَلَ

I may do

aʿmala

صَـٰلِحًۭا

righteous (deeds)

ṣāliḥan

تَرْضَىٰهُ

that will please You

tarḍāhu

وَأَدْخِلْنِى

And admit me

wa-adkhil'nī

بِرَحْمَتِكَ

by Your Mercy

biraḥmatika

فِى

among

عِبَادِكَ

Your slaves

ʿibādika

ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

righteous

l-ṣāliḥīna

١٩

So [Solomon] smiled, amused at her speech, and said, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do righteousness of which You approve. And admit me by Your mercy into [the ranks of] Your righteous servants."

— Saheeh International

وَتَفَقَّدَ

And he inspected

watafaqqada

ٱلطَّيْرَ

the birds

l-ṭayra

فَقَالَ

and said

faqāla

مَا

Why

لِىَ

Why

liya

لَآ

not

أَرَى

I see

arā

ٱلْهُدْهُدَ

the hoopoe

l-hud'huda

أَمْ

or

am

كَانَ

is he

kāna

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْغَآئِبِينَ

the absent

l-ghāibīna

٢٠

And he took attendance of the birds and said, "Why do I not see the hoopoe - or is he among the absent?

— Saheeh International

لَأُعَذِّبَنَّهُۥ

I will surely punish him

la-uʿadhibannahu

عَذَابًۭا

(with) a punishment

ʿadhāban

شَدِيدًا

severe

shadīdan

أَوْ

or

aw

لَأَا۟ذْبَحَنَّهُۥٓ

I will surely slaughter him

laādh'baḥannahu

أَوْ

unless

aw

لَيَأْتِيَنِّى

he brings me

layatiyannī

بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ

a reason

bisul'ṭānin

مُّبِينٍۢ

clear

mubīnin

٢١

I will surely punish him with a severe punishment or slaughter him unless he brings me clear authorization."

— Saheeh International

فَمَكَثَ

So he stayed

famakatha

غَيْرَ

not

ghayra

بَعِيدٍۢ

long

baʿīdin

فَقَالَ

and he said

faqāla

أَحَطتُ

I have encompassed

aḥaṭtu

بِمَا

that which

bimā

لَمْ

not

lam

تُحِطْ

you have encompassed

tuḥiṭ

بِهِۦ

it

bihi

وَجِئْتُكَ

and I have come to you

waji'tuka

مِن

from

min

سَبَإٍۭ

Saba

saba-in

بِنَبَإٍۢ

with news

binaba-in

يَقِينٍ

certain

yaqīnin

٢٢

But he [i.e., the hoopoe] stayed not long and said, "I have encompassed [in knowledge] that which you have not encompassed, and I have come to you from Sheba with certain news.

— Saheeh International

إِنِّى

Indeed, I

innī

وَجَدتُّ

found

wajadttu

ٱمْرَأَةًۭ

a woman

im'ra-atan

تَمْلِكُهُمْ

ruling them

tamlikuhum

وَأُوتِيَتْ

and she has been given

waūtiyat

مِن

of

min

كُلِّ

every

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

وَلَهَا

and for her

walahā

عَرْشٌ

(is) a throne

ʿarshun

عَظِيمٌۭ

great

ʿaẓīmun

٢٣

Indeed, I found [there] a woman ruling them, and she has been given of all things, and she has a great throne.

— Saheeh International

وَجَدتُّهَا

And I found her

wajadttuhā

وَقَوْمَهَا

and her people

waqawmahā

يَسْجُدُونَ

prostrating

yasjudūna

لِلشَّمْسِ

to the sun

lilshamsi

مِن

instead of Allah

min

دُونِ

instead of Allah

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

instead of Allah

l-lahi

وَزَيَّنَ

and has made fair-seeming

wazayyana

لَهُمُ

to them

lahumu

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ

the Shaitaan

l-shayṭānu

أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ

their deeds

aʿmālahum

فَصَدَّهُمْ

and averted them

faṣaddahum

عَنِ

from

ʿani

ٱلسَّبِيلِ

the Way

l-sabīli

فَهُمْ

so they

fahum

لَا

(are) not

يَهْتَدُونَ

guided

yahtadūna

٢٤

I found her and her people prostrating to the sun instead of Allāh, and Satan has made their deeds pleasing to them and averted them from [His] way, so they are not guided,

— Saheeh International

أَلَّا

That not

allā

يَسْجُدُوا۟

they prostrate

yasjudū

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

ٱلَّذِى

the One Who

alladhī

يُخْرِجُ

brings forth

yukh'riju

ٱلْخَبْءَ

the hidden

l-khaba-a

فِى

in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَيَعْلَمُ

and knows

wayaʿlamu

مَا

what

تُخْفُونَ

you conceal

tukh'fūna

وَمَا

and what

wamā

تُعْلِنُونَ

you declare

tuʿ'linūna

٢٥

[And] so they do not prostrate to Allāh, who brings forth what is hidden within the heavens and the earth and knows what you conceal and what you declare -

— Saheeh International

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

al-lahu

لَآ

(there is) no

إِلَـٰهَ

god

ilāha

إِلَّا

but

illā

هُوَ

He

huwa

رَبُّ

(the) Lord

rabbu

ٱلْعَرْشِ

(of) the Throne

l-ʿarshi

ٱلْعَظِيمِ ۩‏

the Great

l-ʿaẓīmi

Allāh - there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Great Throne."

— Saheeh International

۞ قَالَ

He said

qāla

سَنَنظُرُ

We will see

sananẓuru

أَصَدَقْتَ

whether you speak (the) truth

aṣadaqta

أَمْ

or

am

كُنتَ

you are

kunta

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ

the liars

l-kādhibīna

٢٧

[Solomon] said, "We will see whether you were truthful or were of the liars.

— Saheeh International

ٱذْهَب

Go

idh'hab

بِّكِتَـٰبِى

with my letter

bikitābī

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

فَأَلْقِهْ

and deliver it

fa-alqih

إِلَيْهِمْ

to them

ilayhim

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

تَوَلَّ

turn away

tawalla

عَنْهُمْ

from them

ʿanhum

فَٱنظُرْ

and see

fa-unẓur

مَاذَا

what

mādhā

يَرْجِعُونَ

they return

yarjiʿūna

٢٨

Take this letter of mine and deliver it to them. Then leave them and see what [answer] they will return."

— Saheeh International

قَالَتْ

She said

qālat

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O

yāayyuhā

ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟

chiefs

l-mala-u

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed [I]

innī

أُلْقِىَ

is delivered

ul'qiya

إِلَىَّ

to me

ilayya

كِتَـٰبٌۭ

a letter

kitābun

كَرِيمٌ

noble

karīmun

٢٩

She said, "O eminent ones, indeed, to me has been delivered a noble letter.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, it

innahu

مِن

(is) from

min

سُلَيْمَـٰنَ

Sulaiman

sulaymāna

وَإِنَّهُۥ

and indeed it (is)

wa-innahu

بِسْمِ

In the name

bis'mi

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ

the Most Gracious

l-raḥmāni

ٱلرَّحِيمِ

the Most Merciful

l-raḥīmi

٣٠

Indeed, it is from Solomon, and indeed, it is [i.e., reads]: 'In the name of Allāh, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful,

— Saheeh International

أَلَّا

That not

allā

تَعْلُوا۟

exalt yourselves

taʿlū

عَلَىَّ

against me

ʿalayya

وَأْتُونِى

but come to me

watūnī

مُسْلِمِينَ

(in) submission

mus'limīna

٣١

Be not haughty with me but come to me in submission [as Muslims].'"

— Saheeh International

قَالَتْ

She said

qālat

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O

yāayyuhā

ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟

chiefs

l-mala-u

أَفْتُونِى

Advise me

aftūnī

فِىٓ

in

أَمْرِى

my affair

amrī

مَا

Not

كُنتُ

I would be

kuntu

قَاطِعَةً

the one to decide

qāṭiʿatan

أَمْرًا

any matter

amran

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

تَشْهَدُونِ

you are present with me

tashhadūni

٣٢

She said, "O eminent ones, advise me in my affair. I would not decide a matter until you witness [for] me."

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

نَحْنُ

We

naḥnu

أُو۟لُوا۟

(are) possessors

ulū

قُوَّةٍۢ

(of) strength

quwwatin

وَأُو۟لُوا۟

and possessors

wa-ulū

بَأْسٍۢ

(of) might

basin

شَدِيدٍۢ

great

shadīdin

وَٱلْأَمْرُ

and the command

wal-amru

إِلَيْكِ

(is) up to you

ilayki

فَٱنظُرِى

so look

fa-unẓurī

مَاذَا

what

mādhā

تَأْمُرِينَ

you will command

tamurīna

٣٣

They said, "We are men of strength and of great military might, but the command is yours, so see what you will command."

— Saheeh International

قَالَتْ

She said

qālat

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلْمُلُوكَ

the kings

l-mulūka

إِذَا

when

idhā

دَخَلُوا۟

they enter

dakhalū

قَرْيَةً

a town

qaryatan

أَفْسَدُوهَا

they ruin it

afsadūhā

وَجَعَلُوٓا۟

and make

wajaʿalū

أَعِزَّةَ

(the) most honorable

aʿizzata

أَهْلِهَآ

(of) its people

ahlihā

أَذِلَّةًۭ ۖ

(the) lowest

adhillatan

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

يَفْعَلُونَ

they do

yafʿalūna

٣٤

She said, "Indeed kings - when they enter a city, they ruin it and render the honored of its people humbled. And thus do they do.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنِّى

But indeed, I am

wa-innī

مُرْسِلَةٌ

going to send

mur'silatun

إِلَيْهِم

to them

ilayhim

بِهَدِيَّةٍۢ

a gift

bihadiyyatin

فَنَاظِرَةٌۢ

and see

fanāẓiratun

بِمَ

with what

bima

يَرْجِعُ

return

yarjiʿu

ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ

the messengers

l-mur'salūna

٣٥

But indeed, I will send to them a gift and see with what [reply] the messengers will return."

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّا

So when

falammā

جَآءَ

came

jāa

سُلَيْمَـٰنَ

(to) Sulaiman

sulaymāna

قَالَ

he said

qāla

أَتُمِدُّونَنِ

Will you provide me

atumiddūnani

بِمَالٍۢ

with wealth

bimālin

فَمَآ

But what

famā

ءَاتَىٰنِۦَ

Allah has given me

ātāniya

ٱللَّهُ

Allah has given me

l-lahu

خَيْرٌۭ

(is) better

khayrun

مِّمَّآ

than what

mimmā

ءَاتَىٰكُم

He has given you

ātākum

بَلْ

Nay

bal

أَنتُم

you

antum

بِهَدِيَّتِكُمْ

in your gift

bihadiyyatikum

تَفْرَحُونَ

rejoice

tafraḥūna

٣٦

So when they came to Solomon, he said, "Do you provide me with wealth? But what Allāh has given me is better than what He has given you. Rather, it is you who rejoice in your gift.

— Saheeh International

ٱرْجِعْ

Return

ir'jiʿ

إِلَيْهِمْ

to them

ilayhim

فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّهُم

surely, we will come to them

falanatiyannahum

بِجُنُودٍۢ

with hosts

bijunūdin

لَّا

not

قِبَلَ

(is) resistance

qibala

لَهُم

for them

lahum

بِهَا

of it

bihā

وَلَنُخْرِجَنَّهُم

and surely, we will drive them out

walanukh'rijannahum

مِّنْهَآ

from there

min'hā

أَذِلَّةًۭ

(in) humiliation

adhillatan

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

صَـٰغِرُونَ

(will be) abased

ṣāghirūna

٣٧

Return to them, for we will surely come to them with soldiers that they will be powerless to encounter, and we will surely expel them therefrom in humiliation, and they will be debased."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O

yāayyuhā

ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟

chiefs

l-mala-u

أَيُّكُمْ

Which of you

ayyukum

يَأْتِينِى

will bring me

yatīnī

بِعَرْشِهَا

her throne

biʿarshihā

قَبْلَ

before

qabla

أَن

that

an

يَأْتُونِى

they come to me

yatūnī

مُسْلِمِينَ

(in) submission

mus'limīna

٣٨

[Solomon] said, "O assembly [of jinn], which of you will bring me her throne before they come to me in submission?"

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

Said

qāla

عِفْرِيتٌۭ

a strong one

ʿif'rītun

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلْجِنِّ

the jinn

l-jini

أَنَا۠

I

anā

ءَاتِيكَ

will bring it to you

ātīka

بِهِۦ

will bring it to you

bihi

قَبْلَ

before

qabla

أَن

[that]

an

تَقُومَ

you rise

taqūma

مِن

from

min

مَّقَامِكَ ۖ

your place

maqāmika

وَإِنِّى

And indeed, I am

wa-innī

عَلَيْهِ

for it

ʿalayhi

لَقَوِىٌّ

surely, strong

laqawiyyun

أَمِينٌۭ

trustworthy

amīnun

٣٩

A powerful one from among the jinn said, "I will bring it to you before you rise from your place, and indeed, I am for this [task] strong and trustworthy."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

Said

qāla

ٱلَّذِى

one who

alladhī

عِندَهُۥ

with him

ʿindahu

عِلْمٌۭ

(was) knowledge

ʿil'mun

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

the Scripture

l-kitābi

أَنَا۠

I

anā

ءَاتِيكَ

will bring it to you

ātīka

بِهِۦ

will bring it to you

bihi

قَبْلَ

before

qabla

أَن

[that]

an

يَرْتَدَّ

returns

yartadda

إِلَيْكَ

to you

ilayka

طَرْفُكَ ۚ

your glance

ṭarfuka

فَلَمَّا

Then when

falammā

رَءَاهُ

he saw it

raāhu

مُسْتَقِرًّا

placed

mus'taqirran

عِندَهُۥ

before him

ʿindahu

قَالَ

he said

qāla

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

مِن

(is) from

min

فَضْلِ

(the) Favor

faḍli

رَبِّى

(of) my Lord

rabbī

لِيَبْلُوَنِىٓ

to test me

liyabluwanī

ءَأَشْكُرُ

whether I am grateful

a-ashkuru

أَمْ

or

am

أَكْفُرُ ۖ

I am ungrateful

akfuru

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

شَكَرَ

(is) grateful

shakara

فَإِنَّمَا

then only

fa-innamā

يَشْكُرُ

he is grateful

yashkuru

لِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ

for his own soul

linafsihi

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

كَفَرَ

(is) ungrateful

kafara

فَإِنَّ

then indeed

fa-inna

رَبِّى

my Lord

rabbī

غَنِىٌّۭ

(is) Self-sufficient

ghaniyyun

كَرِيمٌۭ

Noble

karīmun

٤٠

Said one who had knowledge from the Scripture, "I will bring it to you before your glance returns to you." And when [Solomon] saw it placed before him, he said, "This is from the favor of my Lord to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful. And whoever is grateful - his gratitude is only for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever is ungrateful - then indeed, my Lord is Free of need and Generous."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

نَكِّرُوا۟

Disguise

nakkirū

لَهَا

for her

lahā

عَرْشَهَا

her throne

ʿarshahā

نَنظُرْ

we will see

nanẓur

أَتَهْتَدِىٓ

whether she will be guided

atahtadī

أَمْ

or

am

تَكُونُ

will be

takūnu

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

لَا

are not guided

يَهْتَدُونَ

are not guided

yahtadūna

٤١

He said, "Disguise for her her throne; we will see whether she will be guided [to truth] or will be of those who is not guided."

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّا

So when

falammā

جَآءَتْ

she came

jāat

قِيلَ

it was said

qīla

أَهَـٰكَذَا

Is like this

ahākadhā

عَرْشُكِ ۖ

your throne

ʿarshuki

قَالَتْ

She said

qālat

كَأَنَّهُۥ

It is like

ka-annahu

هُوَ ۚ

it

huwa

وَأُوتِينَا

And we were given

waūtīnā

ٱلْعِلْمَ

the knowledge

l-ʿil'ma

مِن

before her

min

قَبْلِهَا

before her

qablihā

وَكُنَّا

and we have been

wakunnā

مُسْلِمِينَ

Muslims

mus'limīna

٤٢

So when she arrived, it was said [to her], "Is your throne like this?" She said, "[It is] as though it was it." [Solomon said], "And we were given knowledge before her, and we have been Muslims [in submission to Allāh].

— Saheeh International

وَصَدَّهَا

And has averted her

waṣaddahā

مَا

what

كَانَت

she used (to)

kānat

تَّعْبُدُ

worship

taʿbudu

مِن

besides

min

دُونِ

besides

dūni

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

Allah

l-lahi

إِنَّهَا

Indeed, she

innahā

كَانَتْ

was

kānat

مِن

from

min

قَوْمٍۢ

a people

qawmin

كَـٰفِرِينَ

who disbelieve

kāfirīna

٤٣

And that which she was worshipping other than Allāh had averted her [from submission to Him]. Indeed, she was from a disbelieving people."

— Saheeh International

قِيلَ

It was said

qīla

لَهَا

to her

lahā

ٱدْخُلِى

Enter

ud'khulī

ٱلصَّرْحَ ۖ

the palace

l-ṣarḥa

فَلَمَّا

Then when

falammā

رَأَتْهُ

she saw it

ra-athu

حَسِبَتْهُ

she thought it

ḥasibathu

لُجَّةًۭ

(was) a pool

lujjatan

وَكَشَفَتْ

and she uncovered

wakashafat

عَن

[on]

ʿan

سَاقَيْهَا ۚ

her shins

sāqayhā

قَالَ

He said

qāla

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, it

innahu

صَرْحٌۭ

(is) a palace

ṣarḥun

مُّمَرَّدٌۭ

made smooth

mumarradun

مِّن

of

min

قَوَارِيرَ ۗ

glass

qawārīra

قَالَتْ

She said

qālat

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

إِنِّى

indeed, I

innī

ظَلَمْتُ

[I] have wronged

ẓalamtu

نَفْسِى

myself

nafsī

وَأَسْلَمْتُ

and I submit

wa-aslamtu

مَعَ

with

maʿa

سُلَيْمَـٰنَ

Sulaiman

sulaymāna

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

رَبِّ

(the) Lord

rabbi

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

(of) the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

٤٤

She was told, "Enter the palace." But when she saw it, she thought it was a body of water and uncovered her shins [to wade through]. He said, "Indeed, it is a palace [whose floor is] made smooth with glass." She said, "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, and I submit with Solomon to Allāh, Lord of the worlds."

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

أَرْسَلْنَآ

We sent

arsalnā

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

ثَمُودَ

Thamud

thamūda

أَخَاهُمْ

their brother

akhāhum

صَـٰلِحًا

Salih

ṣāliḥan

أَنِ

that

ani

ٱعْبُدُوا۟

Worship

uʿ'budū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

فَإِذَا

Then behold

fa-idhā

هُمْ

They

hum

فَرِيقَانِ

(became) two parties

farīqāni

يَخْتَصِمُونَ

quarreling

yakhtaṣimūna

٤٥

And We had certainly sent to Thamūd their brother Ṣāliḥ, [saying], "Worship Allāh," and at once they were two parties conflicting.

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

يَـٰقَوْمِ

O my people

yāqawmi

لِمَ

Why

lima

تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

(do) you seek to hasten

tastaʿjilūna

بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ

the evil

bil-sayi-ati

قَبْلَ

before

qabla

ٱلْحَسَنَةِ ۖ

the good

l-ḥasanati

لَوْلَا

Why not

lawlā

تَسْتَغْفِرُونَ

you ask forgiveness

tastaghfirūna

ٱللَّهَ

(of) Allah

l-laha

لَعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تُرْحَمُونَ

receive mercy

tur'ḥamūna

٤٦

He said, "O my people, why are you impatient for evil before [i.e., instead of] good? Why do you not seek forgiveness of Allāh that you may receive mercy?"

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

ٱطَّيَّرْنَا

We consider you a bad omen

iṭṭayyarnā

بِكَ

We consider you a bad omen

bika

وَبِمَن

and those

wabiman

مَّعَكَ ۚ

with you

maʿaka

قَالَ

He said

qāla

طَـٰٓئِرُكُمْ

Your bad omen

ṭāirukum

عِندَ

(is) with

ʿinda

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

Allah

l-lahi

بَلْ

Nay

bal

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

قَوْمٌۭ

(are) a people

qawmun

تُفْتَنُونَ

being tested

tuf'tanūna

٤٧

They said, "We consider you a bad omen, you and those with you." He said, "Your omen [i.e., fate] is with Allāh. Rather, you are a people being tested."

— Saheeh International

وَكَانَ

And were

wakāna

فِى

in

ٱلْمَدِينَةِ

the city

l-madīnati

تِسْعَةُ

nine

tis'ʿatu

رَهْطٍۢ

family heads

rahṭin

يُفْسِدُونَ

they were spreading corruption

yuf'sidūna

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the land

l-arḍi

وَلَا

and not

walā

يُصْلِحُونَ

reforming

yuṣ'liḥūna

٤٨

And there were in the city nine family heads causing corruption in the land and not amending [its affairs].

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

تَقَاسَمُوا۟

Swear to each other

taqāsamū

بِٱللَّهِ

by Allah

bil-lahi

لَنُبَيِّتَنَّهُۥ

surely, we will attack him by night

lanubayyitannahu

وَأَهْلَهُۥ

and his family

wa-ahlahu

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

لَنَقُولَنَّ

we will surely say

lanaqūlanna

لِوَلِيِّهِۦ

to his heir

liwaliyyihi

مَا

Not

شَهِدْنَا

we witnessed

shahid'nā

مَهْلِكَ

(the) destruction

mahlika

أَهْلِهِۦ

(of) his family

ahlihi

وَإِنَّا

and indeed, we

wa-innā

لَصَـٰدِقُونَ

(are) surely truthful

laṣādiqūna

٤٩

They said, "Take a mutual oath by Allāh that we will kill him by night, he and his family. Then we will say to his executor, 'We did not witness the destruction of his family, and indeed, we are truthful.'"

— Saheeh International

وَمَكَرُوا۟

So they plotted

wamakarū

مَكْرًۭا

a plot

makran

وَمَكَرْنَا

and We planned

wamakarnā

مَكْرًۭا

a plan

makran

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

لَا

(did) not

يَشْعُرُونَ

perceive

yashʿurūna

٥٠

And they planned a plan, and We planned a plan, while they perceived not.

— Saheeh International

فَٱنظُرْ

Then see

fa-unẓur

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عَـٰقِبَةُ

(the) end

ʿāqibatu

مَكْرِهِمْ

(of) their plot

makrihim

أَنَّا

that We

annā

دَمَّرْنَـٰهُمْ

destroyed them

dammarnāhum

وَقَوْمَهُمْ

and their people

waqawmahum

أَجْمَعِينَ

all

ajmaʿīna

٥١

Then look how was the outcome of their plan - that We destroyed them and their people, all.

— Saheeh International

فَتِلْكَ

So, these

fatil'ka

بُيُوتُهُمْ

(are) their houses

buyūtuhum

خَاوِيَةًۢ

ruined

khāwiyatan

بِمَا

because

bimā

ظَلَمُوٓا۟ ۗ

they wronged

ẓalamū

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَةًۭ

surely, is a sign

laāyatan

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَعْلَمُونَ

who know

yaʿlamūna

٥٢

So those are their houses, desolate because of the wrong they had done. Indeed in that is a sign for people who know.

— Saheeh International

وَأَنجَيْنَا

And We saved

wa-anjaynā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

وَكَانُوا۟

and used (to)

wakānū

يَتَّقُونَ

fear (Allah)

yattaqūna

٥٣

And We saved those who believed and used to fear Allāh.

— Saheeh International

وَلُوطًا

And Lut

walūṭan

إِذْ

when

idh

قَالَ

he said

qāla

لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ

to his people

liqawmihi

أَتَأْتُونَ

Do you commit

atatūna

ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةَ

[the] immorality

l-fāḥishata

وَأَنتُمْ

while you

wa-antum

تُبْصِرُونَ

see

tub'ṣirūna

٥٤

And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, "Do you commit immorality while you are seeing?

— Saheeh International

أَئِنَّكُمْ

Why do you

a-innakum

لَتَأْتُونَ

approach

latatūna

ٱلرِّجَالَ

the men

l-rijāla

شَهْوَةًۭ

(with) lust

shahwatan

مِّن

instead of

min

دُونِ

instead of

dūni

ٱلنِّسَآءِ ۚ

the women

l-nisāi

بَلْ

Nay

bal

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

قَوْمٌۭ

(are) a people

qawmun

تَجْهَلُونَ

ignorant

tajhalūna

٥٥

Do you indeed approach men with desire instead of women? Rather, you are a people behaving ignorantly."

— Saheeh International

۞ فَمَا

But not

famā

كَانَ

was

kāna

جَوَابَ

(the) answer

jawāba

قَوْمِهِۦٓ

(of) his people

qawmihi

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَن

that

an

قَالُوٓا۟

they said

qālū

أَخْرِجُوٓا۟

Drive out

akhrijū

ءَالَ

(the) family

āla

لُوطٍۢ

(of) Lut

lūṭin

مِّن

from

min

قَرْيَتِكُمْ ۖ

your town

qaryatikum

إِنَّهُمْ

Indeed, they

innahum

أُنَاسٌۭ

(are) people

unāsun

يَتَطَهَّرُونَ

who keep clean and pure

yataṭahharūna

٥٦

But the answer of his people was not except that they said, "Expel the family of Lot from your city. Indeed, they are people who keep themselves pure."

— Saheeh International

فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ

So We saved him

fa-anjaynāhu

وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ

and his family

wa-ahlahu

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ

his wife

im'ra-atahu

قَدَّرْنَـٰهَا

We destined her

qaddarnāhā

مِنَ

(to be) of

mina

ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ

those who remained behind

l-ghābirīna

٥٧

So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; We destined her to be of those who remained behind.

— Saheeh International

وَأَمْطَرْنَا

And We rained

wa-amṭarnā

عَلَيْهِم

upon them

ʿalayhim

مَّطَرًۭا ۖ

a rain

maṭaran

فَسَآءَ

and was evil

fasāa

مَطَرُ

(the) rain

maṭaru

ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ

(on) those who were warned

l-mundharīna

٥٨

And We rained upon them a rain [of stones], and evil was the rain of those who were warned.

— Saheeh International

قُلِ

Say

quli

ٱلْحَمْدُ

All praise (be)

l-ḥamdu

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

وَسَلَـٰمٌ

and peace (be)

wasalāmun

عَلَىٰ

upon

ʿalā

عِبَادِهِ

His slaves

ʿibādihi

ٱلَّذِينَ

those whom

alladhīna

ٱصْطَفَىٰٓ ۗ

He has chosen

iṣ'ṭafā

ءَآللَّهُ

Is Allah

āllahu

خَيْرٌ

better

khayrun

أَمَّا

or what

ammā

يُشْرِكُونَ

they associate (with Him)

yush'rikūna

٥٩

Say, [O Muḥammad], "Praise be to Allāh, and peace upon His servants whom He has chosen. Is Allāh better or what they associate with Him?"

— Saheeh International

أَمَّنْ

Or Who

amman

خَلَقَ

has created

khalaqa

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

وَأَنزَلَ

and sent down

wa-anzala

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

مَآءًۭ

water

māan

فَأَنۢبَتْنَا

And We caused to grow

fa-anbatnā

بِهِۦ

thereby

bihi

حَدَآئِقَ

gardens

ḥadāiqa

ذَاتَ

of beauty (and delight)

dhāta

بَهْجَةٍۢ

of beauty (and delight)

bahjatin

مَّا

not

كَانَ

it is

kāna

لَكُمْ

for you

lakum

أَن

that

an

تُنۢبِتُوا۟

you cause to grow

tunbitū

شَجَرَهَآ ۗ

their trees

shajarahā

أَءِلَـٰهٌۭ

Is there any god

a-ilāhun

مَّعَ

with

maʿa

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

بَلْ

Nay

bal

هُمْ

they

hum

قَوْمٌۭ

(are) a people

qawmun

يَعْدِلُونَ

who ascribe equals

yaʿdilūna

٦٠

[More precisely], is He [not best] who created the heavens and the earth and sent down for you rain from the sky, causing to grow thereby gardens of joyful beauty which you could not [otherwise] have grown the trees thereof? Is there a deity with Allāh? [No], but they are a people who ascribe equals [to Him].

— Saheeh International

أَمَّن

Or Who

amman

جَعَلَ

made

jaʿala

ٱلْأَرْضَ

the earth

l-arḍa

قَرَارًۭا

a firm abode

qarāran

وَجَعَلَ

and made

wajaʿala

خِلَـٰلَهَآ

(in) its midst

khilālahā

أَنْهَـٰرًۭا

rivers

anhāran

وَجَعَلَ

and made

wajaʿala

لَهَا

for it

lahā

رَوَٰسِىَ

firm mountains

rawāsiya

وَجَعَلَ

and made

wajaʿala

بَيْنَ

between

bayna

ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ

the two seas

l-baḥrayni

حَاجِزًا ۗ

a barrier

ḥājizan

أَءِلَـٰهٌۭ

Is there any god

a-ilāhun

مَّعَ

with

maʿa

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

بَلْ

Nay

bal

أَكْثَرُهُمْ

most of them

aktharuhum

لَا

(do) not

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

٦١

Is He [not best] who made the earth a stable ground and placed within it rivers and made for it firmly set mountains and placed between the two seas a barrier? Is there a deity with Allāh? [No], but most of them do not know.

— Saheeh International

أَمَّن

Or Who

amman

يُجِيبُ

responds

yujību

ٱلْمُضْطَرَّ

(to) the distressed one

l-muḍ'ṭara

إِذَا

when

idhā

دَعَاهُ

he calls Him

daʿāhu

وَيَكْشِفُ

and He removes

wayakshifu

ٱلسُّوٓءَ

the evil

l-sūa

وَيَجْعَلُكُمْ

and makes you

wayajʿalukum

خُلَفَآءَ

inheritors

khulafāa

ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ

(of) the earth

l-arḍi

أَءِلَـٰهٌۭ

Is there any god

a-ilāhun

مَّعَ

with

maʿa

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

قَلِيلًۭا

Little

qalīlan

مَّا

(is) what

تَذَكَّرُونَ

you remember

tadhakkarūna

٦٢

Is He [not best] who responds to the desperate one when he calls upon Him and removes evil and makes you inheritors of the earth? Is there a deity with Allāh? Little do you remember.

— Saheeh International

أَمَّن

Or Who

amman

يَهْدِيكُمْ

guides you

yahdīkum

فِى

in

ظُلُمَـٰتِ

(the) darkness[es]

ẓulumāti

ٱلْبَرِّ

(of) the land

l-bari

وَٱلْبَحْرِ

and the sea

wal-baḥri

وَمَن

and Who

waman

يُرْسِلُ

sends

yur'silu

ٱلرِّيَـٰحَ

the winds

l-riyāḥa

بُشْرًۢا

(as) glad tidings

bush'ran

بَيْنَ

before

bayna

يَدَىْ

before

yaday

رَحْمَتِهِۦٓ ۗ

His Mercy

raḥmatihi

أَءِلَـٰهٌۭ

Is there any god

a-ilāhun

مَّعَ

with

maʿa

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

تَعَـٰلَى

High is

taʿālā

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

عَمَّا

above what

ʿammā

يُشْرِكُونَ

they associate (with Him)

yush'rikūna

٦٣

Is He [not best] who guides you through the darknesses of the land and sea and who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy? Is there a deity with Allāh? High is Allāh above whatever they associate with Him.

— Saheeh International

أَمَّن

Or Who

amman

يَبْدَؤُا۟

originates

yabda-u

ٱلْخَلْقَ

the creation

l-khalqa

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يُعِيدُهُۥ

repeats it

yuʿīduhu

وَمَن

and Who

waman

يَرْزُقُكُم

provides you

yarzuqukum

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the heavens

l-samāi

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

أَءِلَـٰهٌۭ

Is there any god

a-ilāhun

مَّعَ

with

maʿa

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

قُلْ

Say

qul

هَاتُوا۟

Bring forth

hātū

بُرْهَـٰنَكُمْ

your proof

bur'hānakum

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you are

kuntum

صَـٰدِقِينَ

truthful

ṣādiqīna

٦٤

Is He [not best] who begins creation and then repeats it and who provides for you from the heaven and earth? Is there a deity with Allāh? Say, "Produce your proof, if you should be truthful."

— Saheeh International

قُل

Say

qul

لَّا

No (one)

يَعْلَمُ

knows

yaʿlamu

مَن

whoever

man

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

ٱلْغَيْبَ

(of) the unseen

l-ghayba

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱللَّهُ ۚ

Allah

l-lahu

وَمَا

and not

wamā

يَشْعُرُونَ

they perceive

yashʿurūna

أَيَّانَ

when

ayyāna

يُبْعَثُونَ

they will be resurrected

yub'ʿathūna

٦٥

Say, "None in the heavens and earth knows the unseen except Allāh, and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected."

— Saheeh International

بَلِ

Nay

bali

ٱدَّٰرَكَ

is arrested

iddāraka

عِلْمُهُمْ

their knowledge

ʿil'muhum

فِى

of

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚ

the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

بَلْ

Nay

bal

هُمْ

they

hum

فِى

(are) in

شَكٍّۢ

doubt

shakkin

مِّنْهَا ۖ

about it

min'hā

بَلْ

Nay

bal

هُم

they

hum

مِّنْهَا

about it

min'hā

عَمُونَ

(are) blind

ʿamūna

٦٦

Rather, their knowledge is arrested concerning the Hereafter. Rather, they are in doubt about it. Rather, they are, concerning it, blind.

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And say

waqāla

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوٓا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

أَءِذَا

What, when

a-idhā

كُنَّا

we have become

kunnā

تُرَٰبًۭا

dust

turāban

وَءَابَآؤُنَآ

and our forefathers

waābāunā

أَئِنَّا

will we

a-innā

لَمُخْرَجُونَ

surely be brought out

lamukh'rajūna

٦٧

And those who disbelieve say, "When we have become dust as well as our forefathers, will we indeed be brought out [of the graves]?

— Saheeh International

لَقَدْ

Certainly

laqad

وُعِدْنَا

we have been promised

wuʿid'nā

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

نَحْنُ

we

naḥnu

وَءَابَآؤُنَا

and our forefathers

waābāunā

مِن

before

min

قَبْلُ

before

qablu

إِنْ

Not

in

هَـٰذَآ

(is) this

hādhā

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَسَـٰطِيرُ

tales

asāṭīru

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

(of) the former (people)

l-awalīna

٦٨

We have been promised this, we and our forefathers, before. This is not but legends of the former peoples."

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

سِيرُوا۟

Travel

sīrū

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the land

l-arḍi

فَٱنظُرُوا۟

and see

fa-unẓurū

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عَـٰقِبَةُ

(the) end

ʿāqibatu

ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

(of) the criminals

l-muj'rimīna

٦٩

Say, [O Muḥammad], "Proceed [i.e., travel] through the land and observe how was the end of the criminals."

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَحْزَنْ

grieve

taḥzan

عَلَيْهِمْ

over them

ʿalayhim

وَلَا

and not

walā

تَكُن

be

takun

فِى

in

ضَيْقٍۢ

distress

ḍayqin

مِّمَّا

from what

mimmā

يَمْكُرُونَ

they plot

yamkurūna

٧٠

And grieve not over them or be in distress from what they conspire.

— Saheeh International

وَيَقُولُونَ

And they say

wayaqūlūna

مَتَىٰ

When

matā

هَـٰذَا

(will) this

hādhā

ٱلْوَعْدُ

promise (be fulfilled)

l-waʿdu

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you are

kuntum

صَـٰدِقِينَ

truthful

ṣādiqīna

٧١

And they say, "When is [the fulfillment of] this promise, if you should be truthful?"

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

عَسَىٰٓ

Perhaps

ʿasā

أَن

that

an

يَكُونَ

is

yakūna

رَدِفَ

close behind

radifa

لَكُم

you

lakum

بَعْضُ

some

baʿḍu

ٱلَّذِى

(of) that which

alladhī

تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

you seek to hasten

tastaʿjilūna

٧٢

Say, "Perhaps it is close behind you [i.e., very near] - some of that for which you are impatient.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

لَذُو

(is) full of Bounty

ladhū

فَضْلٍ

(is) full of Bounty

faḍlin

عَلَى

for

ʿalā

ٱلنَّاسِ

the mankind

l-nāsi

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

أَكْثَرَهُمْ

most of them

aktharahum

لَا

(are) not

يَشْكُرُونَ

grateful

yashkurūna

٧٣

And indeed, your Lord is the possessor of bounty for the people, but most of them are not grateful."

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

لَيَعْلَمُ

surely knows

layaʿlamu

مَا

what

تُكِنُّ

conceals

tukinnu

صُدُورُهُمْ

their breasts

ṣudūruhum

وَمَا

and what

wamā

يُعْلِنُونَ

they declare

yuʿ'linūna

٧٤

And indeed, your Lord knows what their breasts conceal and what they declare.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not (is)

wamā

مِنْ

any (thing)

min

غَآئِبَةٍۢ

hidden

ghāibatin

فِى

in

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the heavens

l-samāi

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

إِلَّا

but

illā

فِى

(is) in

كِتَـٰبٍۢ

a Record

kitābin

مُّبِينٍ

clear

mubīnin

٧٥

And there is nothing concealed within the heaven and the earth except that it is in a clear Register.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

ٱلْقُرْءَانَ

[the] Quran

l-qur'āna

يَقُصُّ

relates

yaquṣṣu

عَلَىٰ

to

ʿalā

بَنِىٓ

(the) Children

banī

إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ

(of) Israel

is'rāīla

أَكْثَرَ

most

akthara

ٱلَّذِى

(of) that

alladhī

هُمْ

they

hum

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

يَخْتَلِفُونَ

differ

yakhtalifūna

٧٦

Indeed, this Qur’ān relates to the Children of Israel most of that over which they disagree.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّهُۥ

And indeed, it

wa-innahu

لَهُدًۭى

(is) surely a guidance

lahudan

وَرَحْمَةٌۭ

and a mercy

waraḥmatun

لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

for the believers

lil'mu'minīna

٧٧

And indeed, it is guidance and mercy for the believers.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

يَقْضِى

will judge

yaqḍī

بَيْنَهُم

between them

baynahum

بِحُكْمِهِۦ ۚ

by His Judgment

biḥuk'mihi

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

ٱلْعَزِيزُ

(is) the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzu

ٱلْعَلِيمُ

the All-Knower

l-ʿalīmu

٧٨

Indeed, your Lord will judge between them by His [wise] judgement. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.

— Saheeh International

فَتَوَكَّلْ

So put your trust

fatawakkal

عَلَى

in

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

Allah

l-lahi

إِنَّكَ

indeed, you

innaka

عَلَى

(are) on

ʿalā

ٱلْحَقِّ

the truth

l-ḥaqi

ٱلْمُبِينِ

manifest

l-mubīni

٧٩

So rely upon Allāh; indeed, you are upon the clear truth.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّكَ

Indeed, you

innaka

لَا

(can) not

تُسْمِعُ

cause to hear

tus'miʿu

ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ

the dead

l-mawtā

وَلَا

and not

walā

تُسْمِعُ

can you cause to hear

tus'miʿu

ٱلصُّمَّ

the deaf

l-ṣuma

ٱلدُّعَآءَ

the call

l-duʿāa

إِذَا

when

idhā

وَلَّوْا۟

they turn back

wallaw

مُدْبِرِينَ

retreating

mud'birīna

٨٠

Indeed, you will not make the dead hear, nor will you make the deaf hear the call when they have turned their backs retreating.

— Saheeh International

وَمَآ

And not

wamā

أَنتَ

(can) you

anta

بِهَـٰدِى

guide

bihādī

ٱلْعُمْىِ

the blind

l-ʿum'yi

عَن

from

ʿan

ضَلَـٰلَتِهِمْ ۖ

their error

ḍalālatihim

إِن

Not

in

تُسْمِعُ

you can cause to hear

tus'miʿu

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَن

(those) who

man

يُؤْمِنُ

believe

yu'minu

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

in Our Signs

biāyātinā

فَهُم

so they

fahum

مُّسْلِمُونَ

(are) Muslims

mus'limūna

٨١

And you cannot guide the blind away from their error. You will only make hear those who believe in Our verses so they are Muslims [i.e., submitting to Allāh].

— Saheeh International

۞ وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

وَقَعَ

(is) fulfilled

waqaʿa

ٱلْقَوْلُ

the word

l-qawlu

عَلَيْهِمْ

against them

ʿalayhim

أَخْرَجْنَا

We will bring forth

akhrajnā

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

دَآبَّةًۭ

a creature

dābbatan

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

تُكَلِّمُهُمْ

speaking to them

tukallimuhum

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱلنَّاسَ

the people

l-nāsa

كَانُوا۟

were

kānū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

of Our Signs

biāyātinā

لَا

not

يُوقِنُونَ

certain

yūqinūna

٨٢

And when the word [i.e., decree] befalls them, We will bring forth for them a creature from the earth speaking to them, [saying] that the people were, of Our verses, not certain [in faith].

— Saheeh International

وَيَوْمَ

And (the) Day

wayawma

نَحْشُرُ

We will gather

naḥshuru

مِن

from

min

كُلِّ

every

kulli

أُمَّةٍۢ

nation

ummatin

فَوْجًۭا

a troop

fawjan

مِّمَّن

of (those) who

mimman

يُكَذِّبُ

deny

yukadhibu

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

Our Signs

biāyātinā

فَهُمْ

and they

fahum

يُوزَعُونَ

will be set in rows

yūzaʿūna

٨٣

And [warn of] the Day when We will gather from every nation a company of those who deny Our signs, and they will be [driven] in rows

— Saheeh International

حَتَّىٰٓ

Until

ḥattā

إِذَا

when

idhā

جَآءُو

they come

jāū

قَالَ

He will say

qāla

أَكَذَّبْتُم

Did you deny

akadhabtum

بِـَٔايَـٰتِى

My Signs

biāyātī

وَلَمْ

while not

walam

تُحِيطُوا۟

you encompassed

tuḥīṭū

بِهَا

them

bihā

عِلْمًا

(in) knowledge

ʿil'man

أَمَّاذَا

or what

ammādhā

كُنتُمْ

you used (to)

kuntum

تَعْمَلُونَ

do

taʿmalūna

٨٤

Until, when they arrive [at the place of Judgement], He will say, "Did you deny My signs while you encompassed them not in knowledge, or what [was it that] you were doing?"

— Saheeh International

وَوَقَعَ

And (will be) fulfilled

wawaqaʿa

ٱلْقَوْلُ

the word

l-qawlu

عَلَيْهِم

against them

ʿalayhim

بِمَا

because

bimā

ظَلَمُوا۟

they wronged

ẓalamū

فَهُمْ

and they

fahum

لَا

(will) not

يَنطِقُونَ

speak

yanṭiqūna

٨٥

And the decree will befall them for the wrong they did, and they will not [be able to] speak.

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

يَرَوْا۟

they see

yaraw

أَنَّا

that We

annā

جَعَلْنَا

[We] have made

jaʿalnā

ٱلَّيْلَ

the night

al-layla

لِيَسْكُنُوا۟

that they may rest

liyaskunū

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

وَٱلنَّهَارَ

and the day

wal-nahāra

مُبْصِرًا ۚ

giving visibility

mub'ṣiran

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

surely (are) Signs

laāyātin

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يُؤْمِنُونَ

who believe

yu'minūna

٨٦

Do they not see that We made the night that they may rest therein and the day giving sight? Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.

— Saheeh International

وَيَوْمَ

And (the) Day

wayawma

يُنفَخُ

will be blown

yunfakhu

فِى

[in]

ٱلصُّورِ

the trumpet

l-ṣūri

فَفَزِعَ

and will be terrified

fafaziʿa

مَن

whoever

man

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَن

whom

man

شَآءَ

Allah wills

shāa

ٱللَّهُ ۚ

Allah wills

l-lahu

وَكُلٌّ

And all

wakullun

أَتَوْهُ

(will) come to Him

atawhu

دَٰخِرِينَ

humbled

dākhirīna

٨٧

And [warn of] the Day the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will be terrified except whom Allāh wills. And all will come to Him humbled.

— Saheeh International

وَتَرَى

And you see

watarā

ٱلْجِبَالَ

the mountains

l-jibāla

تَحْسَبُهَا

thinking them

taḥsabuhā

جَامِدَةًۭ

firmly fixed

jāmidatan

وَهِىَ

while they

wahiya

تَمُرُّ

will pass

tamurru

مَرَّ

(as the) passing

marra

ٱلسَّحَابِ ۚ

(of) the clouds

l-saḥābi

صُنْعَ

(The) Work

ṣun'ʿa

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

ٱلَّذِىٓ

Who

alladhī

أَتْقَنَ

perfected

atqana

كُلَّ

all

kulla

شَىْءٍ ۚ

things

shayin

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, He

innahu

خَبِيرٌۢ

(is) All-Aware

khabīrun

بِمَا

of what

bimā

تَفْعَلُونَ

you do

tafʿalūna

٨٨

And you see the mountains, thinking them motionless, while they will pass as the passing of clouds. [It is] the work of Allāh, who perfected all things. Indeed, He is Aware of that which you do.

— Saheeh International

مَن

Whoever

man

جَآءَ

comes

jāa

بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ

with the good

bil-ḥasanati

فَلَهُۥ

then for him

falahu

خَيْرٌۭ

(will be) better

khayrun

مِّنْهَا

than it

min'hā

وَهُم

and they

wahum

مِّن

from

min

فَزَعٍۢ

(the) terror

fazaʿin

يَوْمَئِذٍ

(of) that Day

yawma-idhin

ءَامِنُونَ

(will be) safe

āminūna

٨٩

Whoever comes [at Judgement] with a good deed will have better than it, and they, from the terror of that Day, will be safe.

— Saheeh International

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

جَآءَ

comes

jāa

بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ

with the evil

bil-sayi-ati

فَكُبَّتْ

will be cast down

fakubbat

وُجُوهُهُمْ

their faces

wujūhuhum

فِى

in

ٱلنَّارِ

the Fire

l-nāri

هَلْ

Are

hal

تُجْزَوْنَ

you recompensed

tuj'zawna

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَا

(for) what

كُنتُمْ

you used (to)

kuntum

تَعْمَلُونَ

do

taʿmalūna

٩٠

And whoever comes with an evil deed - their faces will be overturned into the Fire, [and it will be said], "Are you recompensed except for what you used to do?"

— Saheeh International

إِنَّمَآ

Only

innamā

أُمِرْتُ

I am commanded

umir'tu

أَنْ

that

an

أَعْبُدَ

I worship

aʿbuda

رَبَّ

(the) Lord

rabba

هَـٰذِهِ

(of) this

hādhihi

ٱلْبَلْدَةِ

city

l-baldati

ٱلَّذِى

the One Who

alladhī

حَرَّمَهَا

made it sacred

ḥarramahā

وَلَهُۥ

and to Him (belongs)

walahu

كُلُّ

all

kullu

شَىْءٍۢ ۖ

things

shayin

وَأُمِرْتُ

And I am commanded

wa-umir'tu

أَنْ

that

an

أَكُونَ

I be

akūna

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ

the Muslims

l-mus'limīna

٩١

[Say, O Muḥammad], "I have only been commanded to worship the Lord of this city, who made it sacred and to whom [belongs] all things. And I am commanded to be of the Muslims [i.e., those who submit to Allāh].

— Saheeh International

وَأَنْ

And that

wa-an

أَتْلُوَا۟

I recite

atluwā

ٱلْقُرْءَانَ ۖ

the Quran

l-qur'āna

فَمَنِ

And whoever

famani

ٱهْتَدَىٰ

accepts guidance

ih'tadā

فَإِنَّمَا

then only

fa-innamā

يَهْتَدِى

he accepts guidance

yahtadī

لِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ

for himself

linafsihi

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

ضَلَّ

goes astray

ḍalla

فَقُلْ

then say

faqul

إِنَّمَآ

Only

innamā

أَنَا۠

I am

anā

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْمُنذِرِينَ

the warners

l-mundhirīna

٩٢

And to recite the Qur’ān." And whoever is guided is only guided for [the benefit of] himself; and whoever strays - say, "I am only [one] of the warners."

— Saheeh International

وَقُلِ

And say

waquli

ٱلْحَمْدُ

All praise (be)

l-ḥamdu

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

سَيُرِيكُمْ

He will show you

sayurīkum

ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ

His Signs

āyātihi

فَتَعْرِفُونَهَا ۚ

and you will recognize them

fataʿrifūnahā

وَمَا

And your Lord is not

wamā

رَبُّكَ

And your Lord is not

rabbuka

بِغَـٰفِلٍ

unaware

bighāfilin

عَمَّا

of what

ʿammā

تَعْمَلُونَ

you do

taʿmalūna

٩٣

And say, "[All] praise is [due] to Allāh. He will show you His signs, and you will recognize them. And your Lord is not unaware of what you do."

— Saheeh International
