إِن If in We will nasha We can send down nunazzil to them ʿalayhim from mina the sky l-samāi a Sign āyatan so would bend faẓallat their necks aʿnāquhum to it lahā (in) humility khāḍiʿīna
If We willed, We could send down to them from the sky a sign for which their necks would remain humbled.1
وَمَا And (does) not wamā come to them yatīhim any min reminder dhik'rin from mina the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni new muḥ'dathin but illā they kānū from it ʿanhu turn away muʿ'riḍīna
And no mention [i.e., revelation] comes to them anew from the Most Merciful except that they turn away from it.
فَقَدْ So verily faqad they have denied kadhabū then will come to them fasayatīhim the news anbāu (of) what mā they used kānū at it bihi (to) mock yastahziūna
For they have already denied, but there will come to them the news of that which they used to ridicule.
أَوَلَمْ Do not awalam they see yaraw at ilā the earth l-arḍi how many kam We produced anbatnā in it fīhā of min every kulli kind zawjin noble karīmin

وَلَهُمْ And they have walahum against me ʿalayya a crime dhanbun so I fear fa-akhāfu that an they will kill me yaqtulūni
And they have upon me a [claim due to] sin, so I fear that they will kill me."
قَالَ He said qāla Nay kallā go both of you fa-idh'habā with Our Signs biāyātinā Indeed, We innā (are) with you maʿakum listening mus'tamiʿūna

فَأْتِيَا So go both of you fatiyā (to) Firaun fir'ʿawna and say faqūlā 'Indeed, we innā (are the) Messenger rasūlu (of the) Lord rabbi (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
Go to Pharaoh and say, 'We are the messengers1 of the Lord of the worlds,

[Pharaoh] said, "Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you remained among us for years of your life?
وَفَعَلْتَ And you did wafaʿalta your deed faʿlataka which allatī you did faʿalta and you wa-anta (were) of mina the ungrateful l-kāfirīna
And [then] you did your deed which you did,1 and you were of the ungrateful."
قَالَ He said qāla I did it faʿaltuhā when idhan I wa-anā (was) of mina those who are astray l-ḍālīna
[Moses] said, "I did it, then, while I was of those astray [i.e., ignorant].

So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me judgement [i.e., wisdom and prophet hood] and appointed me [as one] of the messengers.
وَتِلْكَ And this watil'ka (is the) favor niʿ'matun with which you reproach tamunnuhā [on] me ʿalayya that an you have enslaved ʿabbadtta (the) Children of Israel banī (the) Children of Israel is'rāīla
And is this a favor of which you remind me - that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?"

قَالَ He said qāla Even if awalaw I bring you ji'tuka something bishayin manifest mubīnin
[Moses] said, "Even if I brought you something [i.e., proof] manifest?"
قَالَ He said qāla Then bring fati it bihi if in you are kunta of mina the truthful l-ṣādiqīna
[Pharaoh] said, "Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful."
فَأَلْقَىٰ So he threw fa-alqā his staff ʿaṣāhu and behold fa-idhā It hiya (was) a serpent thuʿ'bānun manifest mubīnun

[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician.

He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?"

They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers
يَأْتُوكَ They (will) bring to you yatūka every bikulli magician saḥḥārin learned ʿalīmin

لَعَلَّنَا That we may laʿallanā follow nattabiʿu the magicians l-saḥarata if in they are kānū they are humu the victorious l-ghālibīna
That we might follow the magicians if they are the predominant?"
فَلَمَّا So when falammā came jāa the magicians l-saḥaratu they said qālū to Firaun lifir'ʿawna Is there a-inna for us lanā a reward la-ajran if in we are kunnā we are naḥnu the victorious l-ghālibīna
And when the magicians arrived, they said to Pharaoh, "Is there indeed for us a reward if we are the predominant?"

He said, "Yes, and indeed, you will then be of those near [to me]."
قَالَ Said qāla to them lahum Musa mūsā Throw alqū what mā you antum (are) going to throw mul'qūna
Moses said to them, "Throw whatever you will throw."
فَأَلْقَوْا۟ So they threw fa-alqaw their ropes ḥibālahum and their staffs waʿiṣiyyahum and said waqālū By the might biʿizzati (of) Firaun fir'ʿawna indeed, we innā surely, we lanaḥnu (are) the victorious l-ghālibūna
So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant."
فَأَلْقَىٰ Then threw fa-alqā Musa mūsā his staff ʿaṣāhu and behold fa-idhā It hiya swallowed talqafu what mā they falsified yafikūna
Then Moses threw his staff, and at once it devoured what they falsified.
فَأُلْقِىَ Then fell down fa-ul'qiya the magicians l-saḥaratu prostrate sājidīna

They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds,
رَبِّ Lord rabbi (of) Musa mūsā and Harun wahārūna
The Lord of Moses and Aaron."
قَالَ He said qāla You believed āmantum in him lahu before qabla [that] an I gave permission ādhana to you lakum Indeed, he innahu (is) surely your chief lakabīrukumu who alladhī has taught you ʿallamakumu the magic l-siḥ'ra so surely soon falasawfa you will know taʿlamūna I will surely cut off la-uqaṭṭiʿanna your hands aydiyakum and your feet wa-arjulakum of min opposite sides khilāfin and I will surely crucify you wala-uṣallibannakum all ajmaʿīna
[Pharaoh] said, "You believed him [i.e., Moses] before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all."

Then Pharaoh sent among the cities gatherers1
إِنَّ Indeed inna these hāulāi (are) certainly a band lashir'dhimatun small qalīlūna

And indeed, they are enraging us,
وَإِنَّا And indeed, we wa-innā (are) surely a multitude lajamīʿun forewarned ḥādhirūna
And indeed, we are a cautious society..."

Then We inspired to Moses, "Strike with your staff the sea," and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain.
وَأَزْلَفْنَا And We brought near wa-azlafnā there thamma the others l-ākharīna
And We advanced thereto the others [i.e., the pursuers].
