وَلْيَسْتَعْفِفِ And let be chaste walyastaʿfifi those who alladhīna (do) not lā find yajidūna (means for) marriage nikāḥan until ḥattā Allah enriches them yugh'niyahumu Allah enriches them l-lahu from min His Bounty faḍlihi And those who wa-alladhīna seek yabtaghūna the writing l-kitāba from (those) whom mimmā possess malakat your right hands aymānukum then give them (the) writing fakātibūhum if in you know ʿalim'tum in them fīhim any good khayran and give them waātūhum from min the wealth of Allah māli the wealth of Allah l-lahi which alladhī He has given you ātākum And (do) not walā compel tuk'rihū your slave girls fatayātikum to ʿalā [the] prostitution l-bighāi if in they desire aradna chastity taḥaṣṣunan that you may seek litabtaghū temporary gain ʿaraḍa (of) the life l-ḥayati (of) the world l-dun'yā And whoever waman compels them yuk'rihhunna then indeed fa-inna Allah l-laha after min after baʿdi their compulsion ik'rāhihinna (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun Most Merciful raḥīmun
But let them who find not [the means for] marriage abstain [from sexual relations] until Allāh enriches them from His bounty. And those who seek a contract [for eventual emancipation] from among whom your right hands possess1 - then make a contract with them if you know there is within them goodness and give them from the wealth of Allāh which He has given you. And do not compel your slave girls to prostitution, if they desire chastity, to seek [thereby] the temporary interests of worldly life. And if someone should compel them, then indeed, Allāh is [to them], after their compulsion, Forgiving and Merciful.
