Al-Ĥajj

The Pilgrimage

الحج

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O mankind

yāayyuhā

ٱلنَّاسُ

O mankind

l-nāsu

ٱتَّقُوا۟

Fear

ittaqū

رَبَّكُمْ ۚ

your Lord

rabbakum

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

زَلْزَلَةَ

(the) convulsion

zalzalata

ٱلسَّاعَةِ

(of) the Hour

l-sāʿati

شَىْءٌ

(is) a thing

shayon

عَظِيمٌۭ

great

ʿaẓīmun

١

O mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed, the convulsion of the [final] Hour is a terrible thing.

— Saheeh International

يَوْمَ

(The) Day

yawma

تَرَوْنَهَا

you will see it

tarawnahā

تَذْهَلُ

will forget

tadhhalu

كُلُّ

every

kullu

مُرْضِعَةٍ

nursing mother

mur'ḍiʿatin

عَمَّآ

that which

ʿammā

أَرْضَعَتْ

she was nursing

arḍaʿat

وَتَضَعُ

and will deliver

wataḍaʿu

كُلُّ

every

kullu

ذَاتِ

pregnant woman

dhāti

حَمْلٍ

pregnant woman

ḥamlin

حَمْلَهَا

her load

ḥamlahā

وَتَرَى

and you will see

watarā

ٱلنَّاسَ

[the] mankind

l-nāsa

سُكَـٰرَىٰ

intoxicated

sukārā

وَمَا

while not

wamā

هُم

they

hum

بِسُكَـٰرَىٰ

(are) intoxicated

bisukārā

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

عَذَابَ

(the) punishment

ʿadhāba

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

شَدِيدٌۭ

(will be) severe

shadīdun

٢

On the Day you see it every nursing mother will be distracted from that [child] she was nursing, and every pregnant woman will abort her pregnancy, and you will see the people [appearing] intoxicated while they are not intoxicated; but the punishment of Allāh is severe.

— Saheeh International

وَمِنَ

And among

wamina

ٱلنَّاسِ

the mankind

l-nāsi

مَن

(is he) who

man

يُجَـٰدِلُ

disputes

yujādilu

فِى

concerning

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

عِلْمٍۢ

knowledge

ʿil'min

وَيَتَّبِعُ

and follows

wayattabiʿu

كُلَّ

every

kulla

شَيْطَـٰنٍۢ

devil

shayṭānin

مَّرِيدٍۢ

rebellious

marīdin

٣

And of the people is he who disputes about Allāh without knowledge and follows every rebellious devil.

— Saheeh International

كُتِبَ

It has been decreed

kutiba

عَلَيْهِ

for him

ʿalayhi

أَنَّهُۥ

that he

annahu

مَن

who

man

تَوَلَّاهُ

befriends him

tawallāhu

فَأَنَّهُۥ

then indeed, he

fa-annahu

يُضِلُّهُۥ

will misguide him

yuḍilluhu

وَيَهْدِيهِ

and will guide him

wayahdīhi

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

عَذَابِ

(the) punishment

ʿadhābi

ٱلسَّعِيرِ

(of) the Blaze

l-saʿīri

٤

It has been decreed for him [i.e., every devil] that whoever turns to him - he will misguide him and will lead him to the punishment of the Blaze.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O mankind

yāayyuhā

ٱلنَّاسُ

O mankind

l-nāsu

إِن

If

in

كُنتُمْ

you are

kuntum

فِى

in

رَيْبٍۢ

doubt

raybin

مِّنَ

about

mina

ٱلْبَعْثِ

the Resurrection

l-baʿthi

فَإِنَّا

then indeed, We

fa-innā

خَلَقْنَـٰكُم

We created you

khalaqnākum

مِّن

from

min

تُرَابٍۢ

dust

turābin

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

مِن

from

min

نُّطْفَةٍۢ

a semen-drop

nuṭ'fatin

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

مِنْ

from

min

عَلَقَةٍۢ

a clinging substance

ʿalaqatin

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

مِن

from

min

مُّضْغَةٍۢ

an embryonic lump

muḍ'ghatin

مُّخَلَّقَةٍۢ

formed

mukhallaqatin

وَغَيْرِ

and unformed

waghayri

مُخَلَّقَةٍۢ

and unformed

mukhallaqatin

لِّنُبَيِّنَ

that We may make clear

linubayyina

لَكُمْ ۚ

to you

lakum

وَنُقِرُّ

And We cause to remain

wanuqirru

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْحَامِ

the wombs

l-arḥāmi

مَا

what

نَشَآءُ

We will

nashāu

إِلَىٰٓ

for

ilā

أَجَلٍۢ

a term

ajalin

مُّسَمًّۭى

appointed

musamman

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

نُخْرِجُكُمْ

We bring you out

nukh'rijukum

طِفْلًۭا

(as) a child

ṭif'lan

ثُمَّ

[then]

thumma

لِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟

that you may reach

litablughū

أَشُدَّكُمْ ۖ

[your] maturity

ashuddakum

وَمِنكُم

And among you

waminkum

مَّن

(is he) who

man

يُتَوَفَّىٰ

dies

yutawaffā

وَمِنكُم

and among you

waminkum

مَّن

(is he) who

man

يُرَدُّ

is returned

yuraddu

إِلَىٰٓ

to

ilā

أَرْذَلِ

the most abject

ardhali

ٱلْعُمُرِ

age

l-ʿumuri

لِكَيْلَا

so that not

likaylā

يَعْلَمَ

he knows

yaʿlama

مِنۢ

after

min

بَعْدِ

after

baʿdi

عِلْمٍۢ

having known

ʿil'min

شَيْـًۭٔا ۚ

anything

shayan

وَتَرَى

And you see

watarā

ٱلْأَرْضَ

the earth

l-arḍa

هَامِدَةًۭ

barren

hāmidatan

فَإِذَآ

then when

fa-idhā

أَنزَلْنَا

We send down

anzalnā

عَلَيْهَا

on it

ʿalayhā

ٱلْمَآءَ

water

l-māa

ٱهْتَزَّتْ

it gets stirred

ih'tazzat

وَرَبَتْ

and it swells

warabat

وَأَنۢبَتَتْ

and grows

wa-anbatat

مِن

of

min

كُلِّ

every

kulli

زَوْجٍۭ

kind

zawjin

بَهِيجٍۢ

beautiful

bahījin

٥

O people, if you should be in doubt about the Resurrection, then [consider that] indeed, We created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot, and then from a lump of flesh, formed and unformed1 - that We may show you.2 And We settle in the wombs whom We will for a specified term, then We bring you out as a child, and then [We develop you] that you may reach your [time of] maturity. And among you is he who is taken in [early] death, and among you is he who is returned to the most decrepit [old] age so that he knows, after [once having] knowledge, nothing. And you see the earth barren, but when We send down upon it rain, it quivers and swells and grows [something] of every beautiful kind.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

بِأَنَّ

(is) because

bi-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلْحَقُّ

(is) the Truth

l-ḥaqu

وَأَنَّهُۥ

And that He

wa-annahu

يُحْىِ

[He] gives life

yuḥ'yī

ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ

(to) the dead

l-mawtā

وَأَنَّهُۥ

and that He

wa-annahu

عَلَىٰ

(is) over

ʿalā

كُلِّ

every

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

قَدِيرٌۭ

All-Powerful

qadīrun

٦

That is because Allāh is the True Reality and because He gives life to the dead and because He is over all things competent

— Saheeh International

وَأَنَّ

And that

wa-anna

ٱلسَّاعَةَ

the Hour

l-sāʿata

ءَاتِيَةٌۭ

will come

ātiyatun

لَّا

(there is) no

رَيْبَ

doubt

rayba

فِيهَا

about it

fīhā

وَأَنَّ

and that

wa-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَبْعَثُ

will resurrect

yabʿathu

مَن

(those) who

man

فِى

(are) in

ٱلْقُبُورِ

the graves

l-qubūri

٧

And [that they may know] that the Hour is coming - no doubt about it - and that Allāh will resurrect those in the graves.

— Saheeh International

وَمِنَ

And among

wamina

ٱلنَّاسِ

mankind

l-nāsi

مَن

(is he) who

man

يُجَـٰدِلُ

disputes

yujādilu

فِى

concerning

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

عِلْمٍۢ

any knowledge

ʿil'min

وَلَا

and not

walā

هُدًۭى

any guidance

hudan

وَلَا

and not

walā

كِتَـٰبٍۢ

a Book

kitābin

مُّنِيرٍۢ

enlightening

munīrin

٨

And of the people is he who disputes about Allāh without knowledge or guidance or an enlightening book [from Him],

— Saheeh International

ثَانِىَ

Twisting

thāniya

عِطْفِهِۦ

his neck

ʿiṭ'fihi

لِيُضِلَّ

to mislead

liyuḍilla

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

لَهُۥ

For him

lahu

فِى

in

ٱلدُّنْيَا

the world

l-dun'yā

خِزْىٌۭ ۖ

(is) disgrace

khiz'yun

وَنُذِيقُهُۥ

and We will make him taste

wanudhīquhu

يَوْمَ

(on the) Day

yawma

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

عَذَابَ

(the) punishment

ʿadhāba

ٱلْحَرِيقِ

(of) the Burning Fire

l-ḥarīqi

٩

Twisting his neck [in arrogance] to mislead [people] from the way of Allāh. For him in the world is disgrace, and We will make him taste on the Day of Resurrection the punishment of the Burning Fire [while it is said],

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

بِمَا

(is) for what

bimā

قَدَّمَتْ

have sent forth

qaddamat

يَدَاكَ

your hands

yadāka

وَأَنَّ

and that

wa-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَيْسَ

is not

laysa

بِظَلَّـٰمٍۢ

unjust

biẓallāmin

لِّلْعَبِيدِ

to His slaves

lil'ʿabīdi

١٠

"That is for what your hands have put forth and because Allāh is not ever unjust to [His] servants."

— Saheeh International

وَمِنَ

And among

wamina

ٱلنَّاسِ

the mankind

l-nāsi

مَن

(is he) who

man

يَعْبُدُ

worships

yaʿbudu

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

حَرْفٍۢ ۖ

an edge

ḥarfin

فَإِنْ

And if

fa-in

أَصَابَهُۥ

befalls him

aṣābahu

خَيْرٌ

good

khayrun

ٱطْمَأَنَّ

he is content

iṭ'ma-anna

بِهِۦ ۖ

with it

bihi

وَإِنْ

and if

wa-in

أَصَابَتْهُ

befalls him

aṣābathu

فِتْنَةٌ

a trial

fit'natun

ٱنقَلَبَ

he turns

inqalaba

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

وَجْهِهِۦ

his face

wajhihi

خَسِرَ

He has lost

khasira

ٱلدُّنْيَا

the world

l-dun'yā

وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۚ

and the Hereafter

wal-ākhirata

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

هُوَ

[it]

huwa

ٱلْخُسْرَانُ

(is) the loss

l-khus'rānu

ٱلْمُبِينُ

clear

l-mubīnu

١١

And of the people is he who worships Allāh on an edge.1 If he is touched by good, he is reassured by it; but if he is struck by trial, he turns on his face [to unbelief]. He has lost [this] world and the Hereafter. That is what is the manifest loss.

— Saheeh International

يَدْعُوا۟

He calls

yadʿū

مِن

besides

min

دُونِ

besides

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مَا

what

لَا

not

يَضُرُّهُۥ

harms him

yaḍurruhu

وَمَا

and what

wamā

لَا

not

يَنفَعُهُۥ ۚ

benefits him

yanfaʿuhu

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

هُوَ

[it]

huwa

ٱلضَّلَـٰلُ

(is) the straying

l-ḍalālu

ٱلْبَعِيدُ

far away

l-baʿīdu

١٢

He invokes instead of Allāh that which neither harms him nor benefits him. That is what is the extreme error.

— Saheeh International

يَدْعُوا۟

He calls

yadʿū

لَمَن

(one) who

laman

ضَرُّهُۥٓ

his harm

ḍarruhu

أَقْرَبُ

(is) closer

aqrabu

مِن

than

min

نَّفْعِهِۦ ۚ

his benefit

nafʿihi

لَبِئْسَ

Surely, an evil

labi'sa

ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ

protector

l-mawlā

وَلَبِئْسَ

and surely an evil

walabi'sa

ٱلْعَشِيرُ

friend

l-ʿashīru

١٣

He invokes one whose harm is closer than his benefit - how wretched the protector and how wretched the associate.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يُدْخِلُ

will admit

yud'khilu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and do

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

the righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

جَنَّـٰتٍۢ

(to) Gardens

jannātin

تَجْرِى

flow

tajrī

مِن

from

min

تَحْتِهَا

underneath it

taḥtihā

ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚ

the rivers

l-anhāru

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَفْعَلُ

does

yafʿalu

مَا

what

يُرِيدُ

He intends

yurīdu

١٤

Indeed, Allāh will admit those who believe and do righteous deeds to gardens beneath which rivers flow. Indeed, Allāh does what He intends.

— Saheeh International

مَن

Whoever

man

كَانَ

[is]

kāna

يَظُنُّ

thinks

yaẓunnu

أَن

that

an

لَّن

not

lan

يَنصُرَهُ

Allah will help him

yanṣurahu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah will help him

l-lahu

فِى

in

ٱلدُّنْيَا

the world

l-dun'yā

وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

and the Hereafter

wal-ākhirati

فَلْيَمْدُدْ

then let him extend

falyamdud

بِسَبَبٍ

a rope

bisababin

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

لْيَقْطَعْ

let him cut off

l'yaqṭaʿ

فَلْيَنظُرْ

then let him see

falyanẓur

هَلْ

whether

hal

يُذْهِبَنَّ

will remove

yudh'hibanna

كَيْدُهُۥ

his plan

kayduhu

مَا

what

يَغِيظُ

enrages

yaghīẓu

١٥

Whoever should think that Allāh will not support him [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] in this world and the Hereafter - let him extend a rope to the ceiling, then cut off [his breath],1 and let him see: will his effort remove that which enrages [him]?

— Saheeh International

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ

We sent it down

anzalnāhu

ءَايَـٰتٍۭ

(as) clear Verses

āyātin

بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ

(as) clear Verses

bayyinātin

وَأَنَّ

and that

wa-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَهْدِى

guides

yahdī

مَن

whom

man

يُرِيدُ

He intends

yurīdu

١٦

And thus have We sent it [i.e., the Qur’ān] down as verses of clear evidence and because Allāh guides whom He intends.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

have believed

āmanū

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

هَادُوا۟

were Jews

hādū

وَٱلصَّـٰبِـِٔينَ

and the Sabians

wal-ṣābiīna

وَٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰ

and the Christians

wal-naṣārā

وَٱلْمَجُوسَ

and the Magians

wal-majūsa

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

أَشْرَكُوٓا۟

(are) polytheists

ashrakū

إِنَّ

indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَفْصِلُ

will judge

yafṣilu

بَيْنَهُمْ

between them

baynahum

يَوْمَ

(on) the Day

yawma

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۚ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

كُلِّ

every

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

شَهِيدٌ

(is) a Witness

shahīdun

١٧

Indeed, those who have believed and those who were Jews and the Sabeans and the Christians and the Magians and those who associated with Allāh - Allāh will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed Allāh is, over all things, Witness.1

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

تَرَ

you see

tara

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

(to) Allah

l-laha

يَسْجُدُ

prostrates

yasjudu

لَهُۥ

to Him

lahu

مَن

whoever

man

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

وَٱلشَّمْسُ

and the sun

wal-shamsu

وَٱلْقَمَرُ

and the moon

wal-qamaru

وَٱلنُّجُومُ

and the stars

wal-nujūmu

وَٱلْجِبَالُ

and the mountains

wal-jibālu

وَٱلشَّجَرُ

and the trees

wal-shajaru

وَٱلدَّوَآبُّ

and the moving creatures

wal-dawābu

وَكَثِيرٌۭ

and many

wakathīrun

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلنَّاسِ ۖ

the people

l-nāsi

وَكَثِيرٌ

But many

wakathīrun

حَقَّ

(is) justly due

ḥaqqa

عَلَيْهِ

on him

ʿalayhi

ٱلْعَذَابُ ۗ

the punishment

l-ʿadhābu

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يُهِنِ

Allah humiliates

yuhini

ٱللَّهُ

Allah humiliates

l-lahu

فَمَا

then not

famā

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

مِن

any

min

مُّكْرِمٍ ۚ

bestower of honor

muk'rimin

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَفْعَلُ

does

مَا

what

يَشَآءُ ۩

He wills

yashāu

١٨

Do you not see [i.e., know] that to Allāh prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth and the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the moving creatures and many of the people? But upon many the punishment has been justified.1 And he whom Allāh humiliates - for him there is no bestower of honor. Indeed, Allāh does what He wills.

— Saheeh International

۞ هَـٰذَانِ

These two

hādhāni

خَصْمَانِ

opponents

khaṣmāni

ٱخْتَصَمُوا۟

dispute

ikh'taṣamū

فِى

concerning

رَبِّهِمْ ۖ

their Lord

rabbihim

فَٱلَّذِينَ

But those who

fa-alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

قُطِّعَتْ

will be cut out

quṭṭiʿat

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

ثِيَابٌۭ

garments

thiyābun

مِّن

of

min

نَّارٍۢ

fire

nārin

يُصَبُّ

Will be poured

yuṣabbu

مِن

over

min

فَوْقِ

over

fawqi

رُءُوسِهِمُ

their heads

ruūsihimu

ٱلْحَمِيمُ

[the] scalding water

l-ḥamīmu

١٩

These1 are two adversaries who have disputed over their Lord. But those who disbelieved will have cut out for them garments of fire. Poured upon their heads will be scalding water

— Saheeh International

يُصْهَرُ

Will be melted

yuṣ'haru

بِهِۦ

with it

bihi

مَا

what

فِى

(is) in

بُطُونِهِمْ

their bellies

buṭūnihim

وَٱلْجُلُودُ

and the skins

wal-julūdu

٢٠

By which is melted that within their bellies and [their] skins.

— Saheeh International

وَلَهُم

And for them

walahum

مَّقَـٰمِعُ

(are) hooked rods

maqāmiʿu

مِنْ

of

min

حَدِيدٍۢ

iron

ḥadīdin

٢١

And for [striking] them are maces of iron.

— Saheeh International

كُلَّمَآ

Every time

kullamā

أَرَادُوٓا۟

they want

arādū

أَن

to

an

يَخْرُجُوا۟

come out

yakhrujū

مِنْهَا

from it

min'hā

مِنْ

from

min

غَمٍّ

anguish

ghammin

أُعِيدُوا۟

they will be returned

uʿīdū

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

وَذُوقُوا۟

Taste

wadhūqū

عَذَابَ

(the) punishment

ʿadhāba

ٱلْحَرِيقِ

(of) the Burning Fire

l-ḥarīqi

٢٢

Every time they want to get out of it [i.e., Hellfire] from anguish, they will be returned to it, and [it will be said], "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire!"

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يُدْخِلُ

will admit

yud'khilu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and do

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

the righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

جَنَّـٰتٍۢ

(to) Gardens

jannātin

تَجْرِى

flow

tajrī

مِن

from

min

تَحْتِهَا

underneath it

taḥtihā

ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ

the rivers

l-anhāru

يُحَلَّوْنَ

They will be adorned

yuḥallawna

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

مِنْ

with

min

أَسَاوِرَ

bracelets

asāwira

مِن

of

min

ذَهَبٍۢ

gold

dhahabin

وَلُؤْلُؤًۭا ۖ

and pearl

walu'lu-an

وَلِبَاسُهُمْ

and their garments

walibāsuhum

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

حَرِيرٌۭ

(will be of) silk

ḥarīrun

٢٣

Indeed, Allāh will admit those who believe and do righteous deeds to gardens beneath which rivers flow. They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and pearl, and their garments therein will be silk.

— Saheeh International

وَهُدُوٓا۟

And they were guided

wahudū

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلطَّيِّبِ

the good

l-ṭayibi

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْقَوْلِ

the speech

l-qawli

وَهُدُوٓا۟

and they were guided

wahudū

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

صِرَٰطِ

(the) path

ṣirāṭi

ٱلْحَمِيدِ

(of) the Praiseworthy

l-ḥamīdi

٢٤

And they had been guided [in worldly life] to good speech, and they were guided to the path of the Praiseworthy.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

وَيَصُدُّونَ

and hinder

wayaṣuddūna

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَٱلْمَسْجِدِ

and Al-Masjid Al-Haraam

wal-masjidi

ٱلْحَرَامِ

and Al-Masjid Al-Haraam

l-ḥarāmi

ٱلَّذِى

which

alladhī

جَعَلْنَـٰهُ

We made it

jaʿalnāhu

لِلنَّاسِ

for the mankind

lilnnāsi

سَوَآءً

equal

sawāan

ٱلْعَـٰكِفُ

(are) the resident

l-ʿākifu

فِيهِ

therein

fīhi

وَٱلْبَادِ ۚ

and the visitor

wal-bādi

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

يُرِدْ

intends

yurid

فِيهِ

therein

fīhi

بِإِلْحَادٍۭ

of deviation

bi-il'ḥādin

بِظُلْمٍۢ

(or) wrongdoing

biẓul'min

نُّذِقْهُ

We will make him taste

nudhiq'hu

مِنْ

of

min

عَذَابٍ

a punishment

ʿadhābin

أَلِيمٍۢ

painful

alīmin

٢٥

Indeed, those who have disbelieved and avert [people] from the way of Allāh and [from] al-Masjid al-Ḥarām, which We made for the people - equal are the resident therein and one from outside - and [also] whoever intends [a deed] therein1 of deviation [in religion] by wrongdoing - We will make him taste of a painful punishment.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

بَوَّأْنَا

We assigned

bawwanā

لِإِبْرَٰهِيمَ

to Ibrahim

li-ib'rāhīma

مَكَانَ

(the) site

makāna

ٱلْبَيْتِ

(of) the House

l-bayti

أَن

That

an

لَّا

(do) not

تُشْرِكْ

associate

tush'rik

بِى

with Me

شَيْـًۭٔا

anything

shayan

وَطَهِّرْ

and purify

waṭahhir

بَيْتِىَ

My House

baytiya

لِلطَّآئِفِينَ

for those who circumambulate

lilṭṭāifīna

وَٱلْقَآئِمِينَ

and those who stand

wal-qāimīna

وَٱلرُّكَّعِ

and those who bow

wal-rukaʿi

ٱلسُّجُودِ

(and) those who prostrate

l-sujūdi

٢٦

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when We designated for Abraham the site of the House, [saying], "Do not associate anything with Me and purify My House for those who perform ṭawāf1 and those who stand [in prayer] and those who bow and prostrate.

— Saheeh International

وَأَذِّن

And proclaim

wa-adhin

فِى

to

ٱلنَّاسِ

[the] mankind

l-nāsi

بِٱلْحَجِّ

[of] the Pilgrimage

bil-ḥaji

يَأْتُوكَ

they will come to you

yatūka

رِجَالًۭا

(on) foot

rijālan

وَعَلَىٰ

and on

waʿalā

كُلِّ

every

kulli

ضَامِرٍۢ

lean camel

ḍāmirin

يَأْتِينَ

they will come

yatīna

مِن

from

min

كُلِّ

every

kulli

فَجٍّ

mountain highway

fajjin

عَمِيقٍۢ

distant

ʿamīqin

٢٧

And proclaim to the people the ḥajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass -

— Saheeh International

لِّيَشْهَدُوا۟

That they may witness

liyashhadū

مَنَـٰفِعَ

benefits

manāfiʿa

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

وَيَذْكُرُوا۟

and mention

wayadhkurū

ٱسْمَ

(the) name

is'ma

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

فِىٓ

on

أَيَّامٍۢ

days

ayyāmin

مَّعْلُومَـٰتٍ

known

maʿlūmātin

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

مَا

what

رَزَقَهُم

He has provided them

razaqahum

مِّنۢ

of

min

بَهِيمَةِ

(the) beast

bahīmati

ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ ۖ

(of) cattle

l-anʿāmi

فَكُلُوا۟

So eat

fakulū

مِنْهَا

of them

min'hā

وَأَطْعِمُوا۟

and feed

wa-aṭʿimū

ٱلْبَآئِسَ

the miserable

l-bāisa

ٱلْفَقِيرَ

the poor

l-faqīra

٢٨

That they may witness [i.e., attend] benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allāh on known [i.e., specific] days over what He has provided for them of [sacrificial] animals.1 So eat of them and feed the miserable and poor.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

لْيَقْضُوا۟

let them end

l'yaqḍū

تَفَثَهُمْ

their prescribed duties

tafathahum

وَلْيُوفُوا۟

and fulfil

walyūfū

نُذُورَهُمْ

their vows

nudhūrahum

وَلْيَطَّوَّفُوا۟

and circumambulate

walyaṭṭawwafū

بِٱلْبَيْتِ

the House

bil-bayti

ٱلْعَتِيقِ

[the] Ancient

l-ʿatīqi

٢٩

Then let them end their untidiness and fulfill their vows and perform ṭawāf around the ancient House."

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

يُعَظِّمْ

honors

yuʿaẓẓim

حُرُمَـٰتِ

(the) sacred rites

ḥurumāti

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

فَهُوَ

then it

fahuwa

خَيْرٌۭ

(is) best

khayrun

لَّهُۥ

for him

lahu

عِندَ

near

ʿinda

رَبِّهِۦ ۗ

his Lord

rabbihi

وَأُحِلَّتْ

And are made lawful

wa-uḥillat

لَكُمُ

to you

lakumu

ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمُ

the cattle

l-anʿāmu

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَا

what

يُتْلَىٰ

is recited

yut'lā

عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ

to you

ʿalaykum

فَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟

So avoid

fa-ij'tanibū

ٱلرِّجْسَ

the abomination

l-rij'sa

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْأَوْثَـٰنِ

the idols

l-awthāni

وَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟

and avoid

wa-ij'tanibū

قَوْلَ

(the) word

qawla

ٱلزُّورِ

false

l-zūri

٣٠

That [has been commanded], and whoever honors the sacred ordinances of Allāh - it is best for him in the sight of his Lord. And permitted to you are the grazing livestock, except what is recited to you.1 So avoid the uncleanliness of idols and avoid false statement,

— Saheeh International

حُنَفَآءَ

Being upright

ḥunafāa

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

غَيْرَ

not

ghayra

مُشْرِكِينَ

associating partners

mush'rikīna

بِهِۦ ۚ

with Him

bihi

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يُشْرِكْ

associates partners

yush'rik

بِٱللَّهِ

with Allah

bil-lahi

فَكَأَنَّمَا

then (it is) as though

faka-annamā

خَرَّ

he had fallen

kharra

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

فَتَخْطَفُهُ

and (had) snatched him

fatakhṭafuhu

ٱلطَّيْرُ

the birds

l-ṭayru

أَوْ

or

aw

تَهْوِى

had blown

tahwī

بِهِ

him

bihi

ٱلرِّيحُ

the wind

l-rīḥu

فِى

to

مَكَانٍۢ

a place

makānin

سَحِيقٍۢ

far off

saḥīqin

٣١

Inclining [only] to Allāh, not associating [anything] with Him. And he who associates with Allāh - it is as though he had fallen from the sky and was snatched by the birds or the wind carried him down into a remote place.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

يُعَظِّمْ

honors

yuʿaẓẓim

شَعَـٰٓئِرَ

(the) Symbols

shaʿāira

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

فَإِنَّهَا

then indeed, it

fa-innahā

مِن

(is) from

min

تَقْوَى

(the) piety

taqwā

ٱلْقُلُوبِ

(of) the hearts

l-qulūbi

٣٢

That [is so]. And whoever honors the symbols [i.e., rites] of Allāh - indeed, it is from the piety of hearts.

— Saheeh International

لَكُمْ

For you

lakum

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

مَنَـٰفِعُ

(are) benefits

manāfiʿu

إِلَىٰٓ

for

ilā

أَجَلٍۢ

a term

ajalin

مُّسَمًّۭى

appointed

musamman

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

مَحِلُّهَآ

their place of sacrifice

maḥilluhā

إِلَى

(is) at

ilā

ٱلْبَيْتِ

the House

l-bayti

ٱلْعَتِيقِ

the Ancient

l-ʿatīqi

٣٣

For you therein [i.e., the animals marked for sacrifice] are benefits for a specified term;1 then their place of sacrifice is at the ancient House.2

— Saheeh International

وَلِكُلِّ

And for every

walikulli

أُمَّةٍۢ

nation

ummatin

جَعَلْنَا

We have appointed

jaʿalnā

مَنسَكًۭا

a rite

mansakan

لِّيَذْكُرُوا۟

that they may mention

liyadhkurū

ٱسْمَ

(the) name

is'ma

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

مَا

what

رَزَقَهُم

He (has) provided them

razaqahum

مِّنۢ

of

min

بَهِيمَةِ

(the) beast

bahīmati

ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ ۗ

(of) cattle

l-anʿāmi

فَإِلَـٰهُكُمْ

And your God

fa-ilāhukum

إِلَـٰهٌۭ

(is) God

ilāhun

وَٰحِدٌۭ

One

wāḥidun

فَلَهُۥٓ

so to Him

falahu

أَسْلِمُوا۟ ۗ

submit

aslimū

وَبَشِّرِ

And give glad tidings

wabashiri

ٱلْمُخْبِتِينَ

(to) the humble ones

l-mukh'bitīna

٣٤

And for every [religious] community We have appointed a rite [of sacrifice]1 that they may mention the name of Allāh over what He has provided for them of [sacrificial] animals. For your god is one God, so to Him submit. And, [O Muḥammad], give good tidings to the humble [before their Lord]

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those

alladhīna

إِذَا

when

idhā

ذُكِرَ

is mentioned

dhukira

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

وَجِلَتْ

fear

wajilat

قُلُوبُهُمْ

their hearts

qulūbuhum

وَٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ

and those who are patient

wal-ṣābirīna

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

مَآ

whatever

أَصَابَهُمْ

has afflicted them

aṣābahum

وَٱلْمُقِيمِى

and those who establish

wal-muqīmī

ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ

the prayer

l-ṣalati

وَمِمَّا

and out of what

wamimmā

رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ

We have provided them

razaqnāhum

يُنفِقُونَ

they spend

yunfiqūna

٣٥

Who, when Allāh is mentioned, their hearts are fearful, and [to] the patient over what has afflicted them, and the establishers of prayer and those who spend from what We have provided them.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلْبُدْنَ

And the camels and cattle

wal-bud'na

جَعَلْنَـٰهَا

We have made them

jaʿalnāhā

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّن

among

min

شَعَـٰٓئِرِ

(the) Symbols

shaʿāiri

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

لَكُمْ

for you

lakum

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

خَيْرٌۭ ۖ

(is) good

khayrun

فَٱذْكُرُوا۟

So mention

fa-udh'kurū

ٱسْمَ

(the) name

is'ma

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

عَلَيْهَا

over them

ʿalayhā

صَوَآفَّ ۖ

(when) lined up

ṣawāffa

فَإِذَا

and when

fa-idhā

وَجَبَتْ

are down

wajabat

جُنُوبُهَا

their sides

junūbuhā

فَكُلُوا۟

then eat

fakulū

مِنْهَا

from them

min'hā

وَأَطْعِمُوا۟

and feed

wa-aṭʿimū

ٱلْقَانِعَ

the needy who do not ask

l-qāniʿa

وَٱلْمُعْتَرَّ ۚ

and the needy who ask

wal-muʿ'tara

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

سَخَّرْنَـٰهَا

We have subjected them

sakharnāhā

لَكُمْ

to you

lakum

لَعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تَشْكُرُونَ

be grateful

tashkurūna

٣٦

And the camels and cattle We have appointed for you as among the symbols [i.e., rites] of Allāh; for you therein is good. So mention the name of Allāh upon them when lined up [for sacrifice]; and when they are [lifeless] on their sides, then eat from them and feed the needy [who does not seek aid] and the beggar. Thus have We subjected them to you that you may be grateful.

— Saheeh International

لَن

Will not

lan

يَنَالَ

reach

yanāla

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لُحُومُهَا

their meat

luḥūmuhā

وَلَا

and not

walā

دِمَآؤُهَا

their blood

dimāuhā

وَلَـٰكِن

but

walākin

يَنَالُهُ

reaches Him

yanāluhu

ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ

the piety

l-taqwā

مِنكُمْ ۚ

from you

minkum

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

سَخَّرَهَا

He subjected them

sakharahā

لَكُمْ

to you

lakum

لِتُكَبِّرُوا۟

so that you may magnify

litukabbirū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَلَىٰ

for

ʿalā

مَا

what

هَدَىٰكُمْ ۗ

He has guided you

hadākum

وَبَشِّرِ

And give glad tidings

wabashiri

ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

(to) the good-doers

l-muḥ'sinīna

٣٧

Their meat will not reach Allāh, nor will their blood, but what reaches Him is piety from you. Thus have We subjected them to you that you may glorify Allāh for that [to] which He has guided you; and give good tidings to the doers of good.

— Saheeh International

۞ إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يُدَٰفِعُ

defends

yudāfiʿu

عَنِ

defends

ʿani

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوٓا۟ ۗ

believe

āmanū

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَا

(does) not

يُحِبُّ

like

yuḥibbu

كُلَّ

every

kulla

خَوَّانٍۢ

treacherous

khawwānin

كَفُورٍ

ungrateful

kafūrin

٣٨

Indeed, Allāh defends those who have believed. Indeed, Allāh does not like everyone treacherous and ungrateful.

— Saheeh International

أُذِنَ

Permission is given

udhina

لِلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

يُقَـٰتَلُونَ

are being fought

yuqātalūna

بِأَنَّهُمْ

because they

bi-annahum

ظُلِمُوا۟ ۚ

were wronged

ẓulimū

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَلَىٰ

for

ʿalā

نَصْرِهِمْ

their victory

naṣrihim

لَقَدِيرٌ

(is) surely Able

laqadīrun

٣٩

Permission [to fight] has been given to those who are being fought,1 because they were wronged. And indeed, Allāh is competent to give them victory.

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

أُخْرِجُوا۟

have been evicted

ukh'rijū

مِن

from

min

دِيَـٰرِهِم

their homes

diyārihim

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

حَقٍّ

right

ḥaqqin

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَن

that

an

يَقُولُوا۟

they said

yaqūlū

رَبُّنَا

Our Lord

rabbunā

ٱللَّهُ ۗ

(is) Allah

l-lahu

وَلَوْلَا

And if not

walawlā

دَفْعُ

Allah checks

dafʿu

ٱللَّهِ

Allah checks

l-lahi

ٱلنَّاسَ

the people

l-nāsa

بَعْضَهُم

some of them

baʿḍahum

بِبَعْضٍۢ

by others

bibaʿḍin

لَّهُدِّمَتْ

surely (would) have been demolished

lahuddimat

صَوَٰمِعُ

monasteries

ṣawāmiʿu

وَبِيَعٌۭ

and churches

wabiyaʿun

وَصَلَوَٰتٌۭ

and synagogues

waṣalawātun

وَمَسَـٰجِدُ

and masajid

wamasājidu

يُذْكَرُ

is mentioned

yudh'karu

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

ٱسْمُ

(the) name of Allah

us'mu

ٱللَّهِ

(the) name of Allah

l-lahi

كَثِيرًۭا ۗ

much

kathīran

وَلَيَنصُرَنَّ

And surely Allah will help

walayanṣuranna

ٱللَّهُ

And surely Allah will help

l-lahu

مَن

(those) who

man

يَنصُرُهُۥٓ ۗ

help Him

yanṣuruhu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَقَوِىٌّ

(is) surely All-Strong

laqawiyyun

عَزِيزٌ

All-Mighty

ʿazīzun

٤٠

[They are] those who have been evicted from their homes without right - only because they say, "Our Lord is Allāh." And were it not that Allāh checks the people, some by means of others, there would have been demolished monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques in which the name of Allāh is much mentioned [i.e., praised]. And Allāh will surely support those who support Him [i.e., His cause]. Indeed, Allāh is Powerful and Exalted in Might.

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

إِن

if

in

مَّكَّنَّـٰهُمْ

We establish them

makkannāhum

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the land

l-arḍi

أَقَامُوا۟

they establish

aqāmū

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

the prayer

l-ṣalata

وَءَاتَوُا۟

and they give

waātawū

ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ

zakah

l-zakata

وَأَمَرُوا۟

and they enjoin

wa-amarū

بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ

the right

bil-maʿrūfi

وَنَهَوْا۟

and forbid

wanahaw

عَنِ

from

ʿani

ٱلْمُنكَرِ ۗ

the wrong

l-munkari

وَلِلَّهِ

And for Allah

walillahi

عَـٰقِبَةُ

(is the) end

ʿāqibatu

ٱلْأُمُورِ

(of) the matters

l-umūri

٤١

[And they are] those who, if We give them authority in the land, establish prayer and give zakāh and enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong. And to Allāh belongs the outcome of [all] matters.

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

يُكَذِّبُوكَ

they deny you

yukadhibūka

فَقَدْ

so verily

faqad

كَذَّبَتْ

denied

kadhabat

قَبْلَهُمْ

before them

qablahum

قَوْمُ

(the) people

qawmu

نُوحٍۢ

(of) Nuh

nūḥin

وَعَادٌۭ

and Aad

waʿādun

وَثَمُودُ

and Thamud

wathamūdu

٤٢

And if they deny you, [O Muḥammad] - so, before them, did the people of Noah and ʿAad and Thamūd deny [their prophets],

— Saheeh International

وَقَوْمُ

And (the) people

waqawmu

إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

(of) Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

وَقَوْمُ

and (the) people

waqawmu

لُوطٍۢ

(of) Lut

lūṭin

٤٣

And the people of Abraham and the people of Lot.

— Saheeh International

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ

And the inhabitants

wa-aṣḥābu

مَدْيَنَ ۖ

(of) Madyan

madyana

وَكُذِّبَ

And Musa was denied

wakudhiba

مُوسَىٰ

And Musa was denied

mūsā

فَأَمْلَيْتُ

so I granted respite

fa-amlaytu

لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

to the disbelievers

lil'kāfirīna

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

أَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖ

I seized them

akhadhtuhum

فَكَيْفَ

and how

fakayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

نَكِيرِ

My punishment

nakīri

٤٤

And the inhabitants of Madyan. And Moses was denied, so I prolonged enjoyment for the disbelievers; then I seized them, and how [terrible] was My reproach.

— Saheeh International

فَكَأَيِّن

And how many

faka-ayyin

مِّن

of

min

قَرْيَةٍ

a township

qaryatin

أَهْلَكْنَـٰهَا

We have destroyed it

ahlaknāhā

وَهِىَ

while it

wahiya

ظَالِمَةٌۭ

was doing wrong

ẓālimatun

فَهِىَ

so it

fahiya

خَاوِيَةٌ

fell

khāwiyatun

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

عُرُوشِهَا

its roofs

ʿurūshihā

وَبِئْرٍۢ

and well

wabi'rin

مُّعَطَّلَةٍۢ

abandoned

muʿaṭṭalatin

وَقَصْرٍۢ

and castle

waqaṣrin

مَّشِيدٍ

lofty

mashīdin

٤٥

And how many a city did We destroy while it was committing wrong - so it is [now] fallen into ruin1 - and [how many] an abandoned well and [how many] a lofty palace.2

— Saheeh International

أَفَلَمْ

So have not

afalam

يَسِيرُوا۟

they traveled

yasīrū

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the land

l-arḍi

فَتَكُونَ

and is

fatakūna

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

قُلُوبٌۭ

hearts

qulūbun

يَعْقِلُونَ

(to) reason

yaʿqilūna

بِهَآ

with it

bihā

أَوْ

or

aw

ءَاذَانٌۭ

ears

ādhānun

يَسْمَعُونَ

(to) hear

yasmaʿūna

بِهَا ۖ

with it

bihā

فَإِنَّهَا

For indeed, [it]

fa-innahā

لَا

not

تَعْمَى

(are) blinded

taʿmā

ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ

the eyes

l-abṣāru

وَلَـٰكِن

but

walākin

تَعْمَى

(are) blinded

taʿmā

ٱلْقُلُوبُ

the hearts

l-qulūbu

ٱلَّتِى

which

allatī

فِى

(are) in

ٱلصُّدُورِ

the breasts

l-ṣudūri

٤٦

So have they not traveled through the earth and have hearts by which to reason and ears by which to hear? For indeed, it is not eyes that are blinded, but blinded are the hearts which are within the breasts.

— Saheeh International

وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ

And they ask you to hasten

wayastaʿjilūnaka

بِٱلْعَذَابِ

the punishment

bil-ʿadhābi

وَلَن

But never will

walan

يُخْلِفَ

fail/violate

yukh'lifa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

وَعْدَهُۥ ۚ

(in) His Promise

waʿdahu

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

يَوْمًا

a day

yawman

عِندَ

with

ʿinda

رَبِّكَ

your Lord

rabbika

كَأَلْفِ

(is) like a thousand

ka-alfi

سَنَةٍۢ

year(s)

sanatin

مِّمَّا

of what

mimmā

تَعُدُّونَ

you count

taʿuddūna

٤٧

And they urge you to hasten the punishment. But Allāh will never fail in His promise. And indeed, a day with your Lord is like a thousand years of those which you count.

— Saheeh International

وَكَأَيِّن

And how many

waka-ayyin

مِّن

of

min

قَرْيَةٍ

a township

qaryatin

أَمْلَيْتُ

I gave respite

amlaytu

لَهَا

to it

lahā

وَهِىَ

while it

wahiya

ظَالِمَةٌۭ

(was) doing wrong

ẓālimatun

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

أَخَذْتُهَا

I seized it

akhadhtuhā

وَإِلَىَّ

and to Me

wa-ilayya

ٱلْمَصِيرُ

(is) the destination

l-maṣīru

٤٨

And for how many a city did I prolong enjoyment while it was committing wrong. Then I seized it, and to Me is the [final] destination.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O mankind

yāayyuhā

ٱلنَّاسُ

O mankind

l-nāsu

إِنَّمَآ

Only

innamā

أَنَا۠

I am

anā

لَكُمْ

to you

lakum

نَذِيرٌۭ

a warner

nadhīrun

مُّبِينٌۭ

clear

mubīnun

٤٩

Say, "O people, I am only to you a clear warner."

— Saheeh International

فَٱلَّذِينَ

So those who

fa-alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and do

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مَّغْفِرَةٌۭ

(is) forgiveness

maghfiratun

وَرِزْقٌۭ

and a provision

wariz'qun

كَرِيمٌۭ

noble

karīmun

٥٠

And those who have believed and done righteous deeds - for them is forgiveness and noble provision.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

سَعَوْا۟

strove

saʿaw

فِىٓ

against

ءَايَـٰتِنَا

Our Verses

āyātinā

مُعَـٰجِزِينَ

(to) cause failure

muʿājizīna

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

those

ulāika

أَصْحَـٰبُ

(are the) companions

aṣḥābu

ٱلْجَحِيمِ

(of) the Hellfire

l-jaḥīmi

٥١

But the ones who strove against Our verses, [seeking] to cause failure1 - those are the companions of Hellfire.

— Saheeh International

وَمَآ

And not

wamā

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

مِن

before you

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

مِن

any

min

رَّسُولٍۢ

Messenger

rasūlin

وَلَا

and not

walā

نَبِىٍّ

a Prophet

nabiyyin

إِلَّآ

but

illā

إِذَا

when

idhā

تَمَنَّىٰٓ

he recited

tamannā

أَلْقَى

threw

alqā

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ

the Shaitaan

l-shayṭānu

فِىٓ

in

أُمْنِيَّتِهِۦ

his recitation

um'niyyatihi

فَيَنسَخُ

But Allah abolishes

fayansakhu

ٱللَّهُ

But Allah abolishes

l-lahu

مَا

what

يُلْقِى

throws

yul'qī

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ

the Shaitaan

l-shayṭānu

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يُحْكِمُ

Allah will establish

yuḥ'kimu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah will establish

l-lahu

ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ ۗ

His Verses

āyātihi

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

عَلِيمٌ

(is) All-Knower

ʿalīmun

حَكِيمٌۭ

All-Wise

ḥakīmun

٥٢

And We did not send before you any messenger or prophet except that when he spoke [or recited], Satan threw into it [some misunderstanding]. But Allāh abolishes that which Satan throws in; then Allāh makes precise His verses.1 And Allāh is Knowing and Wise.

— Saheeh International

لِّيَجْعَلَ

That He may make

liyajʿala

مَا

what

يُلْقِى

the Shaitaan throws

yul'qī

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ

the Shaitaan throws

l-shayṭānu

فِتْنَةًۭ

a trial

fit'natan

لِّلَّذِينَ

for those

lilladhīna

فِى

in

قُلُوبِهِم

their hearts

qulūbihim

مَّرَضٌۭ

(is) a disease

maraḍun

وَٱلْقَاسِيَةِ

and (are) hardened

wal-qāsiyati

قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗ

their hearts

qulūbuhum

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

لَفِى

(are) surely, in

lafī

شِقَاقٍۭ

schism

shiqāqin

بَعِيدٍۢ

far

baʿīdin

٥٣

[That is] so He may make what Satan throws in [i.e., asserts] a trial for those within whose hearts is disease1 and those hard of heart. And indeed, the wrongdoers are in extreme dissension.

— Saheeh International

وَلِيَعْلَمَ

And that may know

waliyaʿlama

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

أُوتُوا۟

have been given

ūtū

ٱلْعِلْمَ

the knowledge

l-ʿil'ma

أَنَّهُ

that it

annahu

ٱلْحَقُّ

(is) the truth

l-ḥaqu

مِن

from

min

رَّبِّكَ

your Lord

rabbika

فَيُؤْمِنُوا۟

and they believe

fayu'minū

بِهِۦ

in it

bihi

فَتُخْبِتَ

and may humbly submit

fatukh'bita

لَهُۥ

to it

lahu

قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗ

their hearts

qulūbuhum

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَهَادِ

(is) surely (the) Guide

lahādi

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوٓا۟

believe

āmanū

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

صِرَٰطٍۢ

a Path

ṣirāṭin

مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ

Straight

mus'taqīmin

٥٤

And so those who were given knowledge may know that it is the truth from your Lord and [therefore] believe in it, and their hearts humbly submit to it. And indeed is Allāh the Guide of those who have believed to a straight path.

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And not

walā

يَزَالُ

will cease

yazālu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

فِى

(to be) in

مِرْيَةٍۢ

doubt

mir'yatin

مِّنْهُ

of it

min'hu

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

تَأْتِيَهُمُ

comes to them

tatiyahumu

ٱلسَّاعَةُ

the Hour

l-sāʿatu

بَغْتَةً

suddenly

baghtatan

أَوْ

or

aw

يَأْتِيَهُمْ

comes to them

yatiyahum

عَذَابُ

(the) punishment

ʿadhābu

يَوْمٍ

(of) a Day

yawmin

عَقِيمٍ

barren

ʿaqīmin

٥٥

But those who disbelieve will not cease to be in doubt of it until the Hour comes upon them unexpectedly or there comes to them the punishment of a barren Day.1

— Saheeh International

ٱلْمُلْكُ

The Sovereignty

al-mul'ku

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ

(on) that Day

yawma-idhin

لِّلَّهِ

(will be) for Allah

lillahi

يَحْكُمُ

He will judge

yaḥkumu

بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ

between them

baynahum

فَٱلَّذِينَ

So those who

fa-alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and did

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

فِى

(will be) in

جَنَّـٰتِ

Gardens

jannāti

ٱلنَّعِيمِ

(of) Delight

l-naʿīmi

٥٦

[All] sovereignty that Day is for Allāh;1 He will judge between them. So they who believed and did righteous deeds will be in the Gardens of Pleasure.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

وَكَذَّبُوا۟

and denied

wakadhabū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

Our Verses

biāyātinā

فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

then those

fa-ulāika

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

عَذَابٌۭ

(will be) a punishment

ʿadhābun

مُّهِينٌۭ

humiliating

muhīnun

٥٧

And they who disbelieved and denied Our signs - for those there will be a humiliating punishment.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

هَاجَرُوا۟

emigrated

hājarū

فِى

in

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

قُتِلُوٓا۟

were killed

qutilū

أَوْ

or

aw

مَاتُوا۟

died

mātū

لَيَرْزُقَنَّهُمُ

surely, Allah will provide them

layarzuqannahumu

ٱللَّهُ

surely, Allah will provide them

l-lahu

رِزْقًا

a provision

riz'qan

حَسَنًۭا ۚ

good

ḥasanan

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَهُوَ

surely, He

lahuwa

خَيْرُ

(is the) Best

khayru

ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ

(of) the Providers

l-rāziqīna

٥٨

And those who emigrated for the cause of Allāh and then were killed or died - Allāh will surely provide for them a good provision. And indeed, it is Allāh who is the best of providers.

— Saheeh International

لَيُدْخِلَنَّهُم

Surely, He will admit them

layud'khilannahum

مُّدْخَلًۭا

(to) an entrance

mud'khalan

يَرْضَوْنَهُۥ ۗ

they will be pleased (with) it

yarḍawnahu

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَعَلِيمٌ

surely, (is) All-Knowing

laʿalīmun

حَلِيمٌۭ

Most Forbearing

ḥalīmun

٥٩

He will surely cause them to enter an entrance with which they will be pleased, and indeed, Allāh is Knowing and Forbearing.

— Saheeh International

۞ ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

وَمَنْ

and whoever

waman

عَاقَبَ

has retaliated

ʿāqaba

بِمِثْلِ

with the like

bimith'li

مَا

(of) that

عُوقِبَ

he was made to suffer

ʿūqiba

بِهِۦ

by it

bihi

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

بُغِىَ

he was oppressed

bughiya

عَلَيْهِ

[on him]

ʿalayhi

لَيَنصُرَنَّهُ

Allah will surely help him

layanṣurannahu

ٱللَّهُ ۗ

Allah will surely help him

l-lahu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَعَفُوٌّ

(is) surely Oft-Pardoning

laʿafuwwun

غَفُورٌۭ

Oft-Forgiving

ghafūrun

٦٠

That [is so]. And whoever responds [to injustice] with the equivalent of that with which he was harmed and then is tyrannized - Allāh will surely aid him. Indeed, Allāh is Pardoning and Forgiving.1

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

بِأَنَّ

(is) because

bi-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يُولِجُ

causes to enter

yūliju

ٱلَّيْلَ

the night

al-layla

فِى

in (to)

ٱلنَّهَارِ

the day

l-nahāri

وَيُولِجُ

and causes to enter

wayūliju

ٱلنَّهَارَ

the day

l-nahāra

فِى

in (to)

ٱلَّيْلِ

the night

al-layli

وَأَنَّ

And indeed

wa-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

سَمِيعٌۢ

(is) All-Hearer

samīʿun

بَصِيرٌۭ

All-Seer

baṣīrun

٦١

That1 is because Allāh causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night and because Allāh is Hearing and Seeing.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That (is)

dhālika

بِأَنَّ

because

bi-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلْحَقُّ

(is) the Truth

l-ḥaqu

وَأَنَّ

and that

wa-anna

مَا

what

يَدْعُونَ

they invoke

yadʿūna

مِن

besides Him

min

دُونِهِۦ

besides Him

dūnihi

هُوَ

it

huwa

ٱلْبَـٰطِلُ

(is) the falsehood

l-bāṭilu

وَأَنَّ

And that

wa-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلْعَلِىُّ

(is) the Most High

l-ʿaliyu

ٱلْكَبِيرُ

the Most Great

l-kabīru

٦٢

That is because Allāh is the True Reality, and that which they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allāh is the Most High, the Grand.

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

تَرَ

you see

tara

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

أَنزَلَ

sends down

anzala

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

مَآءًۭ

water

māan

فَتُصْبِحُ

then becomes

fatuṣ'biḥu

ٱلْأَرْضُ

the earth

l-arḍu

مُخْضَرَّةً ۗ

green

mukh'ḍarratan

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَطِيفٌ

(is) surely Subtle

laṭīfun

خَبِيرٌۭ

All-Aware

khabīrun

٦٣

Do you not see that Allāh has sent down rain from the sky and the earth becomes green? Indeed, Allāh is Subtle1 and Aware.2

— Saheeh International

لَّهُۥ

For Him

lahu

مَا

(is) whatever

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَمَا

and whatever

wamā

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ

the earth

l-arḍi

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَهُوَ

surely, He

lahuwa

ٱلْغَنِىُّ

(is) Free of need

l-ghaniyu

ٱلْحَمِيدُ

the Praiseworthy

l-ḥamīdu

٦٤

To Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth. And indeed, Allāh is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

تَرَ

you see

tara

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

سَخَّرَ

(has) subjected

sakhara

لَكُم

to you

lakum

مَّا

what

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

وَٱلْفُلْكَ

and the ships

wal-ful'ka

تَجْرِى

that sail

tajrī

فِى

through

ٱلْبَحْرِ

the sea

l-baḥri

بِأَمْرِهِۦ

by His Command

bi-amrihi

وَيُمْسِكُ

And He withholds

wayum'siku

ٱلسَّمَآءَ

the sky

l-samāa

أَن

lest

an

تَقَعَ

it falls

taqaʿa

عَلَى

on

ʿalā

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

إِلَّا

except

illā

بِإِذْنِهِۦٓ ۗ

by His permission

bi-idh'nihi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

بِٱلنَّاسِ

to mankind

bil-nāsi

لَرَءُوفٌۭ

(is) Full of Kindness

laraūfun

رَّحِيمٌۭ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

٦٥

Do you not see that Allāh has subjected to you whatever is on the earth and the ships which run through the sea by His command? And He restrains the sky from falling upon the earth, unless by His permission. Indeed Allāh, to the people, is Kind and Merciful.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِىٓ

(is) the One Who

alladhī

أَحْيَاكُمْ

gave you life

aḥyākum

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يُمِيتُكُمْ

He will cause you to die

yumītukum

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يُحْيِيكُمْ ۗ

He will give you life (again)

yuḥ'yīkum

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ

man

l-insāna

لَكَفُورٌۭ

(is) surely ungrateful

lakafūrun

٦٦

And He is the one who gave you life; then He causes you to die and then will [again] give you life. Indeed, mankind is ungrateful.

— Saheeh International

لِّكُلِّ

For every

likulli

أُمَّةٍۢ

nation

ummatin

جَعَلْنَا

We have made

jaʿalnā

مَنسَكًا

rite(s)

mansakan

هُمْ

they

hum

نَاسِكُوهُ ۖ

perform it

nāsikūhu

فَلَا

So let them not dispute with you

falā

يُنَـٰزِعُنَّكَ

So let them not dispute with you

yunāziʿunnaka

فِى

in

ٱلْأَمْرِ ۚ

the matter

l-amri

وَٱدْعُ

but invite (them)

wa-ud'ʿu

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

رَبِّكَ ۖ

your Lord

rabbika

إِنَّكَ

Indeed, you

innaka

لَعَلَىٰ

(are) surely on

laʿalā

هُدًۭى

guidance

hudan

مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ

straight

mus'taqīmin

٦٧

For every [religious] community We have appointed rites which they perform. So, [O Muḥammad], let them [i.e., the disbelievers] not contend with you over the matter but invite [them] to your Lord. Indeed, you are upon straight guidance.

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

جَـٰدَلُوكَ

they argue (with) you

jādalūka

فَقُلِ

then say

faquli

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

أَعْلَمُ

(is) most knowing

aʿlamu

بِمَا

of what

bimā

تَعْمَلُونَ

you do

taʿmalūna

٦٨

And if they dispute with you, then say, "Allāh is most knowing of what you do.

— Saheeh International

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

al-lahu

يَحْكُمُ

will judge

yaḥkumu

بَيْنَكُمْ

between you

baynakum

يَوْمَ

(on the) Day

yawma

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

فِيمَا

concerning what

fīmā

كُنتُمْ

you used (to)

kuntum

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

تَخْتَلِفُونَ

differ

takhtalifūna

٦٩

Allāh will judge between you on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which you used to differ."

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

تَعْلَمْ

you know

taʿlam

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَعْلَمُ

knows

yaʿlamu

مَا

what

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the heaven

l-samāi

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

فِى

(is) in

كِتَـٰبٍ ۚ

a Record

kitābin

إِنَّ

indeed

inna

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

عَلَى

(is) for

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

يَسِيرٌۭ

easy

yasīrun

٧٠

Do you not know that Allāh knows what is in the heaven and earth? Indeed, that is in a Record.1 Indeed that, for Allāh, is easy.

— Saheeh International

وَيَعْبُدُونَ

And they worship

wayaʿbudūna

مِن

besides Allah

min

دُونِ

besides Allah

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

besides Allah

l-lahi

مَا

what

لَمْ

not

lam

يُنَزِّلْ

He (has) sent down

yunazzil

بِهِۦ

for it

bihi

سُلْطَـٰنًۭا

any authority

sul'ṭānan

وَمَا

and what

wamā

لَيْسَ

not

laysa

لَهُم

they have

lahum

بِهِۦ

of it

bihi

عِلْمٌۭ ۗ

any knowledge

ʿil'mun

وَمَا

And not

wamā

لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

(will be) for the wrongdoers

lilẓẓālimīna

مِن

any

min

نَّصِيرٍۢ

helper

naṣīrin

٧١

And they worship besides Allāh that for which He has not sent down authority and that of which they have no knowledge. And there will not be for the wrongdoers any helper.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

تُتْلَىٰ

are recited

tut'lā

عَلَيْهِمْ

to them

ʿalayhim

ءَايَـٰتُنَا

Our Verses

āyātunā

بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ

clear

bayyinātin

تَعْرِفُ

you will recognize

taʿrifu

فِى

on

وُجُوهِ

(the) faces

wujūhi

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

ٱلْمُنكَرَ ۖ

the denial

l-munkara

يَكَادُونَ

They almost

yakādūna

يَسْطُونَ

attack

yasṭūna

بِٱلَّذِينَ

those who

bi-alladhīna

يَتْلُونَ

recite

yatlūna

عَلَيْهِمْ

to them

ʿalayhim

ءَايَـٰتِنَا ۗ

Our Verses

āyātinā

قُلْ

Say

qul

أَفَأُنَبِّئُكُم

Then shall I inform you

afa-unabbi-ukum

بِشَرٍّۢ

of worse

bisharrin

مِّن

than

min

ذَٰلِكُمُ ۗ

that

dhālikumu

ٱلنَّارُ

The Fire

l-nāru

وَعَدَهَا

Allah (has) promised it

waʿadahā

ٱللَّهُ

Allah (has) promised it

l-lahu

ٱلَّذِينَ

(for) those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟ ۖ

disbelieve

kafarū

وَبِئْسَ

and wretched

wabi'sa

ٱلْمَصِيرُ

(is) the destination

l-maṣīru

٧٢

And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, you recognize in the faces of those who disbelieve disapproval. They are almost on the verge of assaulting those who recite to them Our verses. Say, "Then shall I inform you of [what is] worse than that?1 [It is] the Fire which Allāh has promised those who disbelieve, and wretched is the destination."

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O mankind

yāayyuhā

ٱلنَّاسُ

O mankind

l-nāsu

ضُرِبَ

Is set forth

ḍuriba

مَثَلٌۭ

an example

mathalun

فَٱسْتَمِعُوا۟

so listen

fa-is'tamiʿū

لَهُۥٓ ۚ

to it

lahu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those whom

alladhīna

تَدْعُونَ

you invoke

tadʿūna

مِن

besides Allah

min

دُونِ

besides Allah

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

besides Allah

l-lahi

لَن

will never

lan

يَخْلُقُوا۟

create

yakhluqū

ذُبَابًۭا

a fly

dhubāban

وَلَوِ

even if

walawi

ٱجْتَمَعُوا۟

they gathered together

ij'tamaʿū

لَهُۥ ۖ

for it

lahu

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

يَسْلُبْهُمُ

snatched away from them

yaslub'humu

ٱلذُّبَابُ

the fly

l-dhubābu

شَيْـًۭٔا

a thing

shayan

لَّا

not

يَسْتَنقِذُوهُ

they (could) take it back

yastanqidhūhu

مِنْهُ ۚ

from it

min'hu

ضَعُفَ

So weak

ḍaʿufa

ٱلطَّالِبُ

(are) the seeker

l-ṭālibu

وَٱلْمَطْلُوبُ

and the one who is sought

wal-maṭlūbu

٧٣

O people, an example is presented, so listen to it. Indeed, those you invoke besides Allāh will never create [as much as] a fly, even if they gathered together for it [i.e., that purpose]. And if the fly should steal from them a [tiny] thing, they could not recover it from him. Weak are the pursuer and pursued.1

— Saheeh International

مَا

Not

قَدَرُوا۟

they (have) estimated

qadarū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

حَقَّ

(with) due

ḥaqqa

قَدْرِهِۦٓ ۗ

[His] estimation

qadrihi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَقَوِىٌّ

(is) surely All-Strong

laqawiyyun

عَزِيزٌ

All-Mighty

ʿazīzun

٧٤

They have not appraised Allāh with true appraisal.1 Indeed, Allāh is Powerful and Exalted in Might.

— Saheeh International

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

al-lahu

يَصْطَفِى

chooses

yaṣṭafī

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ

the Angels

l-malāikati

رُسُلًۭا

Messengers

rusulan

وَمِنَ

and from

wamina

ٱلنَّاسِ ۚ

the mankind

l-nāsi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

سَمِيعٌۢ

(is) All-Hearer

samīʿun

بَصِيرٌۭ

All-Seer

baṣīrun

٧٥

Allāh chooses from the angels messengers and from the people. Indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Seeing.

— Saheeh International

يَعْلَمُ

He knows

yaʿlamu

مَا

what

بَيْنَ

(is) before them

bayna

أَيْدِيهِمْ

(is) before them

aydīhim

وَمَا

and what

wamā

خَلْفَهُمْ ۗ

(is) after them

khalfahum

وَإِلَى

And to

wa-ilā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

تُرْجَعُ

return

tur'jaʿu

ٱلْأُمُورُ

all the matters

l-umūru

٧٦

He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them.1 And to Allāh will be returned [all] matters.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O you who believe

yāayyuhā

ٱلَّذِينَ

O you who believe

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

O you who believe

āmanū

ٱرْكَعُوا۟

Bow

ir'kaʿū

وَٱسْجُدُوا۟

and prostrate

wa-us'judū

وَٱعْبُدُوا۟

and worship

wa-uʿ'budū

رَبَّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbakum

وَٱفْعَلُوا۟

and do

wa-if'ʿalū

ٱلْخَيْرَ

[the] good

l-khayra

لَعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تُفْلِحُونَ ۩

be successful

tuf'liḥūna

٧٧

O you who have believed, bow and prostrate and worship your Lord and do good - that you may succeed.

— Saheeh International

وَجَـٰهِدُوا۟

And strive

wajāhidū

فِى

for

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

حَقَّ

(with the) striving due (to) Him

ḥaqqa

جِهَادِهِۦ ۚ

(with the) striving due (to) Him

jihādihi

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱجْتَبَىٰكُمْ

(has) chosen you

ij'tabākum

وَمَا

and not

wamā

جَعَلَ

placed

jaʿala

عَلَيْكُمْ

upon you

ʿalaykum

فِى

in

ٱلدِّينِ

the religion

l-dīni

مِنْ

any

min

حَرَجٍۢ ۚ

difficulty

ḥarajin

مِّلَّةَ

(The) religion

millata

أَبِيكُمْ

(of) your father

abīkum

إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ۚ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

هُوَ

He

huwa

سَمَّىٰكُمُ

named you

sammākumu

ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ

Muslims

l-mus'limīna

مِن

before

min

قَبْلُ

before

qablu

وَفِى

and in

wafī

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

لِيَكُونَ

that may be

liyakūna

ٱلرَّسُولُ

the Messenger

l-rasūlu

شَهِيدًا

a witness

shahīdan

عَلَيْكُمْ

over you

ʿalaykum

وَتَكُونُوا۟

and you may be

watakūnū

شُهَدَآءَ

witnesses

shuhadāa

عَلَى

on

ʿalā

ٱلنَّاسِ ۚ

the mankind

l-nāsi

فَأَقِيمُوا۟

So establish

fa-aqīmū

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

the prayer

l-ṣalata

وَءَاتُوا۟

and give

waātū

ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ

zakah

l-zakata

وَٱعْتَصِمُوا۟

and hold fast

wa-iʿ'taṣimū

بِٱللَّهِ

to Allah

bil-lahi

هُوَ

He

huwa

مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۖ

(is) your Protector

mawlākum

فَنِعْمَ

so an Excellent

faniʿ'ma

ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ

[the] Protector

l-mawlā

وَنِعْمَ

and an Excellent

waniʿ'ma

ٱلنَّصِيرُ

[the] Helper

l-naṣīru

٧٨

And strive for Allāh with the striving due to Him. He has chosen you and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty. [It is] the religion of your father, Abraham. He [i.e., Allāh] named you "Muslims" before [in former scriptures] and in this [revelation] that the Messenger may be a witness over you and you may be witnesses over the people. So establish prayer and give zakāh and hold fast to Allāh. He is your protector; and excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper.
