ثُمَّ Then thumma he followed atbaʿa a course sababan
Then he followed a way.
حَتَّىٰٓ Until ḥattā when idhā he reached balagha between bayna the two mountains l-sadayni he found wajada besides them min besides them dūnihimā a community qawman not lā who would almost yakādūna understand yafqahūna (his) speech qawlan
Until, when he reached [a pass] between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand [his] speech.
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū O Dhul-qarnain yādhā O Dhul-qarnain l-qarnayni Indeed inna Yajuj yajūja and Majuj wamajūja (are) corrupters muf'sidūna in fī the land l-arḍi So may fahal we make najʿalu for you laka an expenditure kharjan [on] ʿalā that an you make tajʿala between us baynanā and between them wabaynahum a barrier saddan
They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?"
قَالَ He said qāla What mā has established me makkannī [in it] fīhi my Lord rabbī (is) better khayrun but assist me fa-aʿīnūnī with strength biquwwatin I will make ajʿal between you baynakum and between them wabaynahum a barrier radman
He said, "That in which my Lord has established me is better [than what you offer], but assist me with strength [i.e., manpower]; I will make between you and them a dam.
ءَاتُونِى Bring me ātūnī sheets zubara (of) iron l-ḥadīdi until ḥattā when idhā he (had) leveled sāwā between bayna the two cliffs l-ṣadafayni he said qāla Blow unfukhū until ḥattā when idhā he made it jaʿalahu fire nāran he said qāla Bring me ātūnī I pour uf'righ over it ʿalayhi molten copper qiṭ'ran
Bring me bars of iron" - until, when he had leveled [them] between the two mountain walls, he said, "Blow [with bellows]," until when he had made it [like] fire, he said, "Bring me, that I may pour over it molten copper."
