فَٱنطَلَقَا Then they both set out fa-inṭalaqā until ḥattā when idhā they met laqiyā a boy ghulāman then he killed him faqatalahu He said qāla Have you killed aqatalta a soul nafsan pure zakiyyatan for other than bighayri a soul nafsin Certainly laqad you have done ji'ta a thing shayan evil nuk'ran
So they set out, until when they met a boy, he [i.e., al-Khiḍr] killed him. [Moses] said, "Have you killed a pure soul for other than [having killed] a soul? You have certainly done a deplorable thing."
۞ قَالَ He said qāla Did not alam I say aqul to you laka that you innaka never lan will be able tastaṭīʿa with me maʿiya (to have) patience ṣabran
[Al-Khiḍr] said, "Did I not tell you that with me you would never be able to have patience?"
قَالَ He said qāla If in I ask you sa-altuka about ʿan anything shayin after it baʿdahā then (do) not falā keep me as a companion tuṣāḥib'nī Verily qad you have reached balaghta from me min from me ladunnī an excuse ʿudh'ran
[Moses] said, "If I should ask you about anything after this, then do not keep me as a companion. You have obtained from me an excuse."
