قَالَ Said qāla to him lahu his companion ṣāḥibuhu while he wahuwa was talking to him yuḥāwiruhu Do you disbelieve akafarta in One Who bi-alladhī created you khalaqaka from min dust turābin then thumma from min a minute quantity of semen nuṭ'fatin then thumma fashioned you sawwāka (into) a man rajulan
His companion said to him while he was conversing with him, "Have you disbelieved in He who created you from dust and then from a sperm-drop and then proportioned you [as] a man?
لَّـٰكِنَّا۠ But as for me lākinnā He huwa (is) Allah l-lahu my Lord rabbī and not walā I associate ush'riku with my Lord birabbī anyone aḥadan
But as for me, He is Allāh, my Lord, and I do not associate with my Lord anyone.
وَلَوْلَآ And why (did you) not walawlā when idh you entered dakhalta your garden jannataka say qul'ta What mā wills shāa Allah l-lahu (there is) no lā power quwwata except illā with Allah bil-lahi If in you see me tarani (me) anā lesser aqalla than you minka (in) wealth mālan and children wawaladan
And why did you, when you entered your garden, not say, 'What Allāh willed [has occurred]; there is no power except in Allāh'? Although you see me less than you in wealth and children,
فَعَسَىٰ It may be faʿasā that my Lord rabbī that my Lord an will give me yu'tiyani better khayran than min your garden jannatika and will send wayur'sila upon it ʿalayhā a calamity ḥus'bānan from mina the sky l-samāi then it will become fatuṣ'biḥa ground ṣaʿīdan slippery zalaqan
It may be that my Lord will give me [something] better than your garden and will send upon it a [disastrous] penalty from the sky, and it will become a smooth, dusty ground,
أَوْ Or aw will become yuṣ'biḥa its water māuhā sunken ghawran so never falan you will be able tastaṭīʿa to find it lahu to find it ṭalaban
Or its water will become sunken [into the earth], so you would never be able to seek it."
