أَتَىٰٓ Will come atā (the) command of Allah amru (the) command of Allah l-lahi so (do) not falā (be) impatient for it tastaʿjilūhu Glorified is He sub'ḥānahu and Exalted (is) He wataʿālā above what ʿammā they associate yush'rikūna
The command of Allāh is coming,1 so be not impatient for it. Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him.

He created the heavens and earth in truth. High is He above what they associate with Him.
خَلَقَ He created khalaqa the human kind l-insāna from min a minute quantity of semen nuṭ'fatin then behold fa-idhā he huwa (is) an opponent khaṣīmun clear mubīnun
He created man from a sperm-drop; then at once1 he is a clear adversary.
وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمَ And the cattle wal-anʿāma He created them khalaqahā for you lakum in them fīhā (is) warmth dif'on and benefits wamanāfiʿu and from them wamin'hā you eat takulūna
And the grazing livestock He has created for you; in them is warmth1 and [numerous] benefits, and from them you eat.
وَلَكُمْ And for you walakum in them fīhā (is) beauty jamālun when ḥīna you bring them in turīḥūna and when waḥīna you take them out tasraḥūna
And for you in them is [the enjoyment of] beauty when you bring them in [for the evening] and when you send them out [to pasture].
وَتَحْمِلُ And they carry wataḥmilu your loads athqālakum to ilā a land baladin not lam you could takūnū reach it bālighīhi except illā with great trouble bishiqqi (to) yourselves l-anfusi Indeed inna your Lord rabbakum surely is Most Kind laraūfun Most Merciful raḥīmun
And they carry your loads to a land you could not have reached except with difficulty to yourselves. Indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful.
وَٱلْخَيْلَ And horses wal-khayla and mules wal-bighāla and donkeys wal-ḥamīra for you to ride them litarkabūhā and (as) adornment wazīnatan And He creates wayakhluqu what mā not lā you know taʿlamūna
And [He created] the horses, mules and donkeys for you to ride and [as] adornment. And He creates that which you do not know.
وَعَلَى And upon waʿalā Allah l-lahi (is) the direction qaṣdu (of) the way l-sabīli and among them wamin'hā (are) crooked jāirun And if walaw He willed shāa surely He would have guided you lahadākum all ajmaʿīna
And upon Allāh1 is the direction of the [right] way, and among them [i.e., the various paths] are those deviating. And if He willed, He could have guided you all.
هُوَ He huwa (is) the One Who alladhī sends down anzala from mina the sky l-samāi water māan for you lakum of it min'hu (is) drink sharābun and from it wamin'hu (grows) vegetation shajarun in which fīhi you pasture your cattle tusīmūna
It is He who sends down rain from the sky; from it is drink and from it is foliage in which you pasture [animals].
يُنۢبِتُ He causes to grow yunbitu for you lakum with it bihi the crops l-zarʿa and the olives wal-zaytūna and the date-palms wal-nakhīla and the grapes wal-aʿnāba and of wamin every kind kulli (of) fruits l-thamarāti Indeed inna in fī that dhālika surely (is) a sign laāyatan for a people liqawmin who reflect yatafakkarūna
He causes to grow for you thereby the crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and of all the fruits. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.
وَسَخَّرَ And He has subjected wasakhara for you lakumu the night al-layla and the day wal-nahāra and the sun wal-shamsa and the moon wal-qamara and the stars wal-nujūmu (are) subjected musakharātun by His command bi-amrihi Indeed inna in fī that dhālika surely (are) signs laāyātin for a people liqawmin who use reason yaʿqilūna
And He has subjected for you the night and day and the sun and moon, and the stars are subjected by His command. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.
وَمَا And whatever wamā He multiplied dhara-a for you lakum in fī the earth l-arḍi (of) varying mukh'talifan colors alwānuhu Indeed inna in fī that dhālika surely (is) a sign laāyatan for a people liqawmin who remember yadhakkarūna
And [He has subjected] whatever He multiplied for you on the earth of varying colors. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who remember.
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa (is) the One Who alladhī subjected sakhara the sea l-baḥra for you to eat litakulū from it min'hu meat laḥman fresh ṭariyyan and that you bring forth watastakhrijū from it min'hu ornaments ḥil'yatan (that) you wear them talbasūnahā And you see watarā the ships l-ful'ka ploughing mawākhira through it fīhi and that you may seek walitabtaghū of min His Bounty faḍlihi and that you may walaʿallakum (be) grateful tashkurūna
And it is He who subjected the sea for you to eat from it tender meat and to extract from it ornaments which you wear. And you see the ships plowing through it, and [He subjected it] that you may seek of His bounty; and perhaps you will be grateful.
وَأَلْقَىٰ And He has cast wa-alqā in fī the earth l-arḍi firm mountains rawāsiya lest an it should shake tamīda with you bikum and rivers wa-anhāran and roads wasubulan so that you may laʿallakum be guided tahtadūna
And He has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it shift with you, and [made] rivers and roads, that you may be guided,
وَعَلَـٰمَـٰتٍۢ ۚ And landmarks waʿalāmātin And by the stars wabil-najmi they hum guide themselves yahtadūna
And landmarks. And by the stars they are [also] guided.1
أَفَمَن Then is He Who afaman creates yakhluqu like one who kaman (does) not lā create yakhluqu Then will you not afalā remember tadhakkarūna
Then is He who creates like one who does not create? So will you not be reminded?
وَإِن And if wa-in you should count taʿuddū the Favors of Allah niʿ'mata the Favors of Allah l-lahi not lā you could enumerate them tuḥ'ṣūhā Indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) Oft-Forgiving laghafūrun Most Merciful raḥīmun
And if you should count the favors of Allāh, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu knows yaʿlamu what mā you conceal tusirrūna and what wamā you reveal tuʿ'linūna
And Allāh knows what you conceal and what you declare.
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those whom wa-alladhīna they invoke yadʿūna besides min besides dūni Allah l-lahi not lā they create yakhluqūna anything shayan but (are) themselves wahum created yukh'laqūna
And those they invoke other than Allāh create nothing, and they [themselves] are created.
أَمْوَٰتٌ (They are) dead amwātun not alive ghayru not alive aḥyāin And not wamā they perceive yashʿurūna when ayyāna they will be resurrected yub'ʿathūna
They are [in fact] dead,1 not alive, and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected.
إِلَـٰهُكُمْ Your god ilāhukum (is) God ilāhun One wāḥidun But those who fa-alladhīna (do) not lā believe yu'minūna in the Hereafter bil-ākhirati their hearts qulūbuhum refuse munkiratun and they wahum (are) arrogant mus'takbirūna
Your god is one God. But those who do not believe in the Hereafter - their hearts are disapproving, and they are arrogant.
لَا No doubt lā No doubt jarama that anna Allah l-laha knows yaʿlamu what mā they conceal yusirrūna and what wamā they reveal yuʿ'linūna Indeed, He innahu (does) not lā love yuḥibbu the arrogant ones l-mus'takbirīna
Assuredly, Allāh knows what they conceal and what they declare. Indeed, He does not like the arrogant.
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā it is said qīla to them lahum What mādhā has your Lord sent down anzala has your Lord sent down rabbukum They say qālū Tales asāṭīru (of) the ancient l-awalīna
And when it is said to them, "What has your Lord sent down?" they say, "Legends of the former peoples,"
لِيَحْمِلُوٓا۟ That they may bear liyaḥmilū their own burdens awzārahum (in) full kāmilatan on (the) Day yawma (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati and of wamin the burdens awzāri (of) those whom alladhīna they misled [them] yuḍillūnahum without bighayri knowledge ʿil'min Unquestionably alā evil sāa (is) what mā they will bear yazirūna
That they may bear their own burdens [i.e., sins] in full on the Day of Resurrection and some of the burdens of those whom they misguide without [i.e., by lack of] knowledge. Unquestionably, evil is that which they bear.
قَدْ Verily qad plotted makara those who alladhīna (were) before them min (were) before them qablihim but Allah came fa-atā but Allah came l-lahu (at) their building bun'yānahum from mina the foundations l-qawāʿidi so fell fakharra upon them ʿalayhimu the roof l-saqfu from min above them fawqihim and came to them wa-atāhumu the punishment l-ʿadhābu from min where ḥaythu they (did) not perceive lā they (did) not perceive yashʿurūna
Those before them had already plotted, but Allāh came at [i.e., uprooted] their building from the foundations, so the roof fell upon them from above them,1 and the punishment came to them from where they did not perceive.
ثُمَّ Then thumma (on) the Day yawma (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati He will disgrace them yukh'zīhim and say wayaqūlu Where ayna (are) My partners shurakāiya those (for) whom alladhīna you used (to) kuntum oppose tushāqqūna [in them] fīhim Will say qāla those who alladhīna were given ūtū the knowledge l-ʿil'ma Indeed inna the disgrace l-khiz'ya this Day l-yawma and evil wal-sūa (are) upon ʿalā the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
Then on the Day of Resurrection He will disgrace them and say, "Where are My 'partners' for whom you used to oppose [the believers]?" Those who were given knowledge will say, "Indeed disgrace, this Day, and evil are upon the disbelievers" -
ٱلَّذِينَ Those whom alladhīna take them in death tatawaffāhumu the Angels l-malāikatu (while) wronging ẓālimī themselves anfusihim then they would offer fa-alqawū the submission l-salama Not mā we were kunnā doing naʿmalu any min evil sūin Nay balā indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun of what bimā you used (to) kuntum do taʿmalūna
The ones whom the angels take in death [while] wronging themselves,1 and [who] then offer submission, [saying], "We were not doing any evil." But, yes! Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of what you used to do.
فَٱدْخُلُوٓا۟ So enter fa-ud'khulū (the) gates abwāba (of) Hell jahannama (to) abide forever khālidīna in it fīhā Surely, wretched falabi'sa (is the) abode mathwā (of) the arrogant l-mutakabirīna
So enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and how wretched is the residence of the arrogant.
۞ وَقِيلَ And it will be said waqīla to those who lilladhīna fear Allah ittaqaw What mādhā has your Lord sent down anzala has your Lord sent down rabbukum They will say qālū Good khayran For those who lilladhīna do good aḥsanū in fī this hādhihi world l-dun'yā (is) a good ḥasanatun and the home waladāru of the Hereafter l-ākhirati (is) better khayrun And surely excellent walaniʿ'ma (is) the home dāru (of) the righteous l-mutaqīna
And it will be said to those who feared Allāh, "What did your Lord send down?" They will say, "[That which is] good." For those who do good in this world is good; and the home of the Hereafter is better. And how excellent is the home of the righteous -
جَنَّـٰتُ Gardens jannātu (of) Eden ʿadnin which they will enter yadkhulūnahā flows tajrī from min underneath them taḥtihā the rivers l-anhāru For them lahum therein fīhā (will be) whatever mā they wish yashāūna Thus kadhālika Allah rewards yajzī Allah rewards l-lahu the righteous l-mutaqīna
Gardens of perpetual residence, which they will enter, beneath which rivers flow. They will have therein whatever they wish. Thus does Allāh reward the righteous -
ٱلَّذِينَ Those whom alladhīna take them in death tatawaffāhumu the Angels l-malāikatu (when they are) pure ṭayyibīna saying yaqūlūna Peace salāmun (be) upon you ʿalaykumu Enter ud'khulū Paradise l-janata for what bimā you used (to) kuntum do taʿmalūna
The ones whom the angels take in death, [being] good and pure; [the angels] will say, "Peace be upon you. Enter Paradise for what you used to do."
هَلْ Do hal they wait yanẓurūna except illā that an (should) come to them tatiyahumu the Angels l-malāikatu or aw (should) come yatiya (the) Command amru (of) your Lord rabbika Thus kadhālika did faʿala those who alladhīna (were) before them min (were) before them qablihim And not wamā wronged them ẓalamahumu Allah l-lahu but walākin they were kānū themselves anfusahum wronging yaẓlimūna
Do they [i.e., the disbelievers] await except that the angels should come to them or there comes the command of your Lord? Thus did those do before them. And Allāh wronged them not, but they had been wronging themselves.
فَأَصَابَهُمْ Then struck them fa-aṣābahum (the) evil (results) sayyiātu (of) what mā they did ʿamilū and surrounded waḥāqa them bihim what mā they used (to) kānū [of it] bihi mock yastahziūna
So they were struck by the evil consequences of what they did and were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.
وَقَالَ And said waqāla those who alladhīna associate partners (with Allah) ashrakū If law Allah (had) willed shāa Allah (had) willed l-lahu not mā we (would) have worshipped ʿabadnā other than Him min other than Him dūnihi any min thing shayin we naḥnu and not walā our forefathers ābāunā and not walā we (would) have forbidden ḥarramnā other than Him min other than Him dūnihi anything min anything shayin Thus kadhālika did faʿala those who alladhīna (were) before them min (were) before them qablihim Then is (there) fahal on ʿalā the messengers l-rusuli except illā the conveyance l-balāghu clear l-mubīnu
And those who associate others with Allāh say, "If Allāh had willed, we would not have worshipped anything other than Him, neither we nor our fathers, nor would we have forbidden anything through other than Him." Thus did those do before them. So is there upon the messengers except [the duty of] clear notification?
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad We sent baʿathnā into fī every kulli nation ummatin a Messenger rasūlan that ani Worship uʿ'budū Allah l-laha and avoid wa-ij'tanibū the false deities l-ṭāghūta Then among them famin'hum (were some) whom man Allah guided hadā Allah guided l-lahu and among them wamin'hum (were) some man was justified ḥaqqat on them ʿalayhi the straying l-ḍalālatu So travel fasīrū in fī the earth l-arḍi and see fa-unẓurū how kayfa was kāna the end ʿāqibatu (of) the deniers l-mukadhibīna
And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allāh and avoid ṭāghūt."1 And among them were those whom Allāh guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed [i.e., travel] through the earth and observe how was the end of the deniers.
إِن If in you desire taḥriṣ [for] ʿalā their guidance hudāhum then indeed fa-inna Allah l-laha (will) not lā guide yahdī whom man He lets go astray yuḍillu and not (are) wamā for them lahum any min helpers nāṣirīna
[Even] if you should strive for their guidance, [O Muḥammad], indeed, Allāh does not guide those He sends astray,1 and they will have no helpers.
وَأَقْسَمُوا۟ And they swear wa-aqsamū by Allah bil-lahi strongest jahda (of) their oaths aymānihim Allah will not resurrect lā Allah will not resurrect yabʿathu Allah will not resurrect l-lahu (one) who man dies yamūtu Nay balā (it is) a promise waʿdan upon Him ʿalayhi (in) truth ḥaqqan but walākinna most akthara (of) the mankind l-nāsi (do) not lā know yaʿlamūna
And they swear by Allāh their strongest oaths [that] Allāh will not resurrect one who dies. But yes - [it is] a true promise [binding] upon Him, but most of the people do not know.
لِيُبَيِّنَ That He will make clear liyubayyina to them lahumu that alladhī they differ yakhtalifūna wherein fīhi and that may know waliyaʿlama those who alladhīna disbelieved kafarū that they annahum were kānū liars kādhibīna
[It is] so He will make clear to them [the truth of] that wherein they differ and so those who have disbelieved may know that they were liars.
إِنَّمَا Only innamā Our Word qawlunā to a thing lishayin when idhā We intend it aradnāhu (is) that an We say naqūla to it lahu Be kun and it is fayakūnu
Indeed, Our word to a thing when We intend it is but that We say to it, "Be," and it is.
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna emigrated hājarū in (the way) fī (of) Allah l-lahi after min after baʿdi [what] mā they were wronged ẓulimū surely We will give them position lanubawwi-annahum in fī the world l-dun'yā good ḥasanatan but surely the reward wala-ajru (of) the Hereafter l-ākhirati (is) greater akbaru if law they kānū know yaʿlamūna
And those who emigrated for [the cause of] Allāh after they had been wronged - We will surely settle them in this world in a good place; but the reward of the Hereafter is greater, if only they could know.
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna (are) patient ṣabarū and on waʿalā their Lord rabbihim they put their trust yatawakkalūna
[They are] those who endured patiently and upon their Lord relied.
وَمَآ And not wamā We sent arsalnā before you min before you qablika except illā men rijālan We revealed nūḥī to them ilayhim so ask fasalū (the) people ahla (of) the Reminder l-dhik'ri if in you kuntum (do) not lā know taʿlamūna
And We sent not before you except men to whom We revealed [Our message]. So ask the people of the message [i.e., former scriptures] if you do not know.
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ With the clear proofs bil-bayināti and the Books wal-zuburi And We sent down wa-anzalnā to you ilayka the Remembrance l-dhik'ra that you may make clear litubayyina to the mankind lilnnāsi what mā has been sent down nuzzila to them ilayhim and that they may walaʿallahum reflect yatafakkarūna
[We sent them] with clear proofs and written ordinances. And We revealed to you the message [i.e., the Qur’ān] that you may make clear to the people what was sent down to them and that they might give thought.
أَفَأَمِنَ Do then feel secure afa-amina those who alladhīna plotted makarū the evil deeds l-sayiāti that an Allah will cave yakhsifa Allah will cave l-lahu with them bihimu the earth l-arḍa or aw will come to them yatiyahumu the punishment l-ʿadhābu from min where ḥaythu not lā they perceive yashʿurūna
Then, do those who have planned evil deeds feel secure that Allāh will not cause the earth to swallow them or that the punishment will not come upon them from where they do not perceive?
أَوْ Or aw that He may seize them yakhudhahum in fī their going to and fro taqallubihim then not famā they hum will be able to escape bimuʿ'jizīna
Or that He would not seize them during their [usual] activity, and they could not cause failure [i.e., escape from Him]?
أَوْ Or aw that He may seize them yakhudhahum with ʿalā a gradual wasting takhawwufin But indeed fa-inna your Lord rabbakum (is) surely Full of Kindness laraūfun Most Merciful raḥīmun
Or that He would not seize them gradually [in a state of dread]?1 But indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful.2
أَوَلَمْ Have not awalam they seen yaraw [towards] ilā what mā Allah has created khalaqa Allah has created l-lahu from min a thing shayin Incline yatafayya-u their shadows ẓilāluhu to ʿani the right l-yamīni and to the left wal-shamāili prostrating sujjadan to Allah lillahi while they wahum (are) humble dākhirūna
Have they not considered what things Allāh has created? Their shadows incline to the right and to the left, prostrating to Allāh, while they [i.e., those creations] are humble.
وَلِلَّهِ And to Allah walillahi prostrate yasjudu whatever mā (is) in fī the heavens l-samāwāti and whatever wamā (is) in fī the earth l-arḍi of min moving creatures dābbatin and the Angels wal-malāikatu and they wahum (are) not lā arrogant yastakbirūna
And to Allāh prostrates whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth of creatures, and the angels [as well], and they are not arrogant.
يَخَافُونَ They fear yakhāfūna their Lord rabbahum above them min above them fawqihim and they do wayafʿalūna what mā they are commanded yu'marūna
They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded.
۞ وَقَالَ And Allah has said waqāla And Allah has said l-lahu (Do) not lā take tattakhidhū [two] gods ilāhayni two ith'nayni only innamā He huwa (is) God ilāhun One wāḥidun so Me Alone fa-iyyāya you fear [Me] fa-ir'habūni
And Allāh has said, "Do not take for yourselves two1 deities. He [i.e., Allāh] is but one God, so fear only Me."
وَلَهُۥ And to Him (belongs) walahu whatever mā (is) in fī the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi and to Him walahu (is due) the worship l-dīnu constantly wāṣiban Then is it other (than) afaghayra Allah l-lahi you fear tattaqūna
And to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and to Him is [due] worship constantly. Then is it other than Allāh that you fear?
وَمَا And whatever wamā you have bikum of min favor niʿ'matin (is) from famina Allah l-lahi Then thumma when idhā touches you massakumu the adversity l-ḍuru then to Him fa-ilayhi you cry for help tajarūna
And whatever you have of favor - it is from Allāh. Then when adversity touches you, to Him you cry for help.
ثُمَّ Then thumma when idhā He removes kashafa the adversity l-ḍura from you ʿankum behold idhā A group farīqun of you minkum with their Lord birabbihim associate others yush'rikūna
Then when He removes the adversity from you, at once a party of you associates others with their Lord
لِيَكْفُرُوا۟ So as to deny liyakfurū that which bimā We have given them ātaynāhum Then enjoy yourselves fatamattaʿū soon fasawfa you will know taʿlamūna
So they will deny what We have given them. Then enjoy yourselves, for you are going to know.
وَيَجْعَلُونَ And they assign wayajʿalūna to what limā not lā they know yaʿlamūna a portion naṣīban of what mimmā We have provided them razaqnāhum By Allah tal-lahi surely you will be asked latus'alunna about what ʿammā you used (to) kuntum invent taftarūna
And they assign to what they do not know1 [i.e., false deities] a portion of that which We have provided them. By Allāh, you will surely be questioned about what you used to invent.
وَيَجْعَلُونَ And they assign wayajʿalūna to Allah lillahi daughters l-banāti Glory be to Him sub'ḥānahu And for them walahum (is) what mā they desire yashtahūna
And they attribute to Allāh daughters1 - exalted is He - and for them is what they desire [i.e., sons].
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā is given good news bushira (to) one of them aḥaduhum of a female bil-unthā turns ẓalla his face wajhuhu dark mus'waddan and he wahuwa suppresses grief kaẓīmun
And when one of them is informed of [the birth of] a female, his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief.
يَتَوَٰرَىٰ He hides himself yatawārā from mina the people l-qawmi (because) of min the evil sūi of what mā he has been given good news bushira about bihi Should he keep it ayum'sikuhu in ʿalā humiliation hūnin or am bury it yadussuhu in fī the dust l-turābi Unquestionably alā evil sāa (is) what mā they decide yaḥkumūna
He hides himself from the people because of the ill of which he has been informed. Should he keep it in humiliation or bury it in the ground? Unquestionably, evil is what they decide.
لِلَّذِينَ For those who lilladhīna (do) not lā believe yu'minūna in the Hereafter bil-ākhirati (is) a similitude mathalu (of) the evil l-sawi and for Allah walillahi (is) the similitude l-mathalu the Highest l-aʿlā And He wahuwa (is) the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu All-Wise l-ḥakīmu
For those who do not believe in the Hereafter is the description [i.e., an attribute] of evil;1 and for Allāh is the highest attribute. And He is Exalted in Might, the Wise.
وَلَوْ And if walaw Allah were to seize yuākhidhu Allah were to seize l-lahu the mankind l-nāsa for their wrongdoing biẓul'mihim not mā He (would) have left taraka upon it ʿalayhā any min moving creature dābbatin but walākin He defers them yu-akhiruhum for ilā a term ajalin appointed musamman Then when fa-idhā comes jāa their terms ajaluhum not lā they (will) remain behind yastakhirūna an hour sāʿatan and not walā they can advance (it) yastaqdimūna
And if Allāh were to impose blame on the people for their wrongdoing, He would not have left upon it [i.e., the earth] any creature, but He defers them for a specified term. And when their term has come, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede [it].
وَيَجْعَلُونَ And they assign wayajʿalūna to Allah lillahi what mā they dislike yakrahūna and assert wataṣifu their tongues alsinatuhumu the lie l-kadhiba that anna for them lahumu (is) the best l-ḥus'nā No lā doubt jarama that anna for them lahumu (is) the Fire l-nāra and that they wa-annahum (will) be abandoned muf'raṭūna
And they attribute to Allāh that which they dislike [i.e., daughters], and their tongues assert the lie that they will have the best [from Him]. Assuredly, they will have the Fire, and they will be [therein] neglected.1
تَٱللَّهِ By Allah tal-lahi certainly laqad We have sent arsalnā to ilā nations umamin before you min before you qablika but made fair-seeming fazayyana to them lahumu the Shaitaan l-shayṭānu their deeds aʿmālahum So he fahuwa (is) their ally waliyyuhumu today l-yawma and for them walahum (is) a punishment ʿadhābun painful alīmun
By Allāh, We did certainly send [messengers] to nations before you, but Satan made their deeds attractive to them. And he is their [i.e., the disbelievers] ally today [as well], and they will have a painful punishment.
وَمَآ And not wamā We revealed anzalnā to you ʿalayka the Book l-kitāba except illā that you make clear litubayyina to them lahumu that which alladhī they differed ikh'talafū in it fīhi and (as) a guidance wahudan and mercy waraḥmatan for a people liqawmin who believe yu'minūna
And We have not revealed to you the Book, [O Muḥammad], except for you to make clear to them that wherein they have differed and as guidance and mercy for a people who believe.
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu has sent down anzala from mina the sky l-samāi water māan then gives life fa-aḥyā by it bihi (to) the earth l-arḍa after baʿda its death mawtihā Indeed inna in fī that dhālika (is) surely a Sign laāyatan for a people liqawmin who listen yasmaʿūna
And Allāh has sent down rain from the sky and given life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who listen.
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna for you lakum in fī the cattle l-anʿāmi (is) a lesson laʿib'ratan We give you to drink nus'qīkum from what mimmā (is) in fī their bellies buṭūnihi from min between bayni bowels farthin and blood wadamin milk labanan pure khāliṣan palatable sāighan to the drinkers lilshāribīna
And indeed, for you in grazing livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from what is in their bellies - between excretion and blood - pure milk, palatable to drinkers.
وَمِن And from wamin fruits thamarāti the date-palm l-nakhīli and the grapes wal-aʿnābi you take tattakhidhūna from it min'hu intoxicant sakaran and a provision wariz'qan good ḥasanan Indeed inna in fī that dhālika (is) surely a Sign laāyatan for a people liqawmin who use reason yaʿqilūna
And from the fruits of the palm trees and grapevines you take intoxicant and good provision.1 Indeed in that is a sign for a people who reason.
وَأَوْحَىٰ And inspired wa-awḥā your Lord rabbuka to ilā the bee l-naḥli [that] ani Take ittakhidhī among mina the mountains l-jibāli houses buyūtan and among wamina the trees l-shajari and in what wamimmā they construct yaʿrishūna
And your Lord inspired to the bee, "Take for yourself among the mountains, houses [i.e., hives], and among the trees and [in] that which they construct.
ثُمَّ Then thumma eat kulī from min all kulli the fruits l-thamarāti and follow fa-us'lukī (the) ways subula (of) your Lord rabbiki made smooth dhululan Comes forth yakhruju from min their bellies buṭūnihā a drink sharābun (of) varying mukh'talifun colors alwānuhu in it fīhi (is) a healing shifāon for the mankind lilnnāsi Indeed inna in fī that dhālika (is) surely a Sign laāyatan for a people liqawmin who reflect yatafakkarūna
Then eat from all the fruits1 and follow the ways of your Lord laid down [for you]." There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu created you khalaqakum then thumma will cause you to die yatawaffākum And among you waminkum (is one) who man is sent back yuraddu to ilā the worst ardhali (of) the age l-ʿumuri so that likay not lā he will know yaʿlama after baʿda knowledge ʿil'min a thing shayan Indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) All-Knowing ʿalīmun All-Powerful qadīrun
And Allāh created you; then He will take you in death. And among you is he who is reversed to the most decrepit [old] age so that he will not know, after [having had] knowledge, a thing. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing and Competent.
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu has favored faḍḍala some of you baʿḍakum over ʿalā others baʿḍin in fī [the] provision l-riz'qi But not famā those who alladhīna were favored fuḍḍilū would hand over birāddī their provision riz'qihim to ʿalā whom mā possess malakat their right hands aymānuhum so (that) they fahum (are) in it fīhi equal sawāon Then is it the Favor afabiniʿ'mati of Allah l-lahi they reject yajḥadūna
And Allāh has favored some of you over others in provision. But those who were favored [i.e., given more] would not hand over their provision to those whom their right hands possess [i.e., slaves] so they would be equal to them therein.1 Then is it the favor of Allāh they reject?
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu (has) made jaʿala for you lakum from min yourselves anfusikum spouses azwājan and has made wajaʿala for you lakum from min your spouses azwājikum sons banīna and grandsons waḥafadatan and has provided for you warazaqakum from mina the good things l-ṭayibāti Then in falsehood do afabil-bāṭili they believe yu'minūna and the Favor wabiniʿ'mati of Allah l-lahi they hum disbelieve yakfurūna
And Allāh has made for you from yourselves mates and has made for you from your mates sons and grandchildren and has provided for you from the good things. Then in falsehood do they believe and in the favor of Allāh they disbelieve?
وَيَعْبُدُونَ And they worship wayaʿbudūna other than min other than dūni Allah l-lahi which mā not lā possesses yamliku for them lahum any provision riz'qan from mina the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi [anything] shayan and not walā they are able yastaṭīʿūna
And they worship besides Allāh that which does not possess for them [the power of] provision from the heavens and the earth at all, and [in fact], they are unable.
فَلَا So (do) not falā put forth taḍribū for Allah lillahi the similitude l-amthāla Indeed inna Allah l-laha knows yaʿlamu and you wa-antum (do) not lā know taʿlamūna
So do not assert similarities to Allāh.1 Indeed, Allāh knows and you do not know.
۞ ضَرَبَ Allah sets forth ḍaraba Allah sets forth l-lahu the example mathalan (of) a slave ʿabdan (who is) owned mamlūkan not lā he has power yaqdiru on ʿalā anything shayin and (one) whom waman We provided him razaqnāhu from Us minnā a provision riz'qan good ḥasanan so he fahuwa spends yunfiqu from it min'hu secretly sirran and publicly wajahran Can hal they be equal yastawūna All praise l-ḥamdu (is) for Allah lillahi Nay bal but most of them aktharuhum (do) not lā know yaʿlamūna
Allāh presents an example: a slave [who is] owned and unable to do a thing and he to whom We have provided from Us good provision, so he spends from it secretly and publicly. Can they be equal? Praise to Allāh! But most of them do not know.
وَضَرَبَ And Allah sets forth waḍaraba And Allah sets forth l-lahu an example mathalan (of) two men rajulayni one of them aḥaduhumā (is) dumb abkamu not lā he has power yaqdiru on ʿalā anything shayin while he wahuwa (is) a burden kallun on ʿalā his master mawlāhu Wherever aynamā he directs him yuwajjihhu not lā he comes yati with any good bikhayrin Is hal equal yastawī he huwa and (the one) who waman commands yamuru [of] justice bil-ʿadli and he wahuwa (is) on ʿalā a path ṣirāṭin straight mus'taqīmin
And Allāh presents an example of two men, one of them dumb and unable to do a thing, while he is a burden to his guardian. Wherever he directs him, he brings no good. Is he equal to one who commands justice, while he is on a straight path?
وَلِلَّهِ And to Allah (belongs) walillahi (the) unseen ghaybu (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi And not wamā (is the) matter amru (of) the Hour l-sāʿati but illā as a twinkling kalamḥi (of) the eye l-baṣari or aw it huwa (is) nearer aqrabu Indeed inna Allah l-laha on ʿalā every kulli thing shayin (is) All-Powerful qadīrun
And to Allāh belongs the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth. And the command for the Hour is not but as a glance of the eye or even nearer. Indeed, Allāh is over all things competent.
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu brought you forth akhrajakum from min the wombs buṭūni (of) your mothers ummahātikum not lā knowing taʿlamūna anything shayan and made wajaʿala for you lakumu the hearing l-samʿa and the sight wal-abṣāra and the hearts wal-afidata so that you may laʿallakum give thanks tashkurūna
And Allāh has extracted you from the wombs of your mothers not knowing a thing, and He made for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect] that perhaps you would be grateful.
أَلَمْ Do not alam they see yaraw towards ilā the birds l-ṭayri controlled musakharātin in fī the midst jawwi (of) the sky l-samāi None mā holds them up yum'sikuhunna except illā Allah l-lahu Indeed inna in fī that dhālika (are) Signs laāyātin for a people liqawmin who believe yu'minūna
Do they not see the birds controlled in the atmosphere of the sky? None holds them up except Allāh. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu (has) made jaʿala for you lakum [from] min your homes buyūtikum a resting place sakanan and made wajaʿala for you lakum from min the hides julūdi (of) the cattle l-anʿāmi tents buyūtan which you find light tastakhiffūnahā (on) the day yawma (of) your travel ẓaʿnikum and the day wayawma (of) your encampment iqāmatikum and from wamin their wool aṣwāfihā and their fur wa-awbārihā and their hair wa-ashʿārihā (is) furnishing athāthan and a provision wamatāʿan for ilā a time ḥīnin
And Allāh has made for you from your homes a place of rest and made for you from the hides of the animals tents which you find light on your day of travel and your day of encampment; and from their wool, fur and hair is furnishing and enjoyment [i.e., provision] for a time.
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu (has) made jaʿala for you lakum from what mimmā He created khalaqa shades ẓilālan and (has) made wajaʿala for you lakum from mina the mountains l-jibāli shelters aknānan and (has) made wajaʿala for you lakum garments sarābīla to protect you taqīkumu (from) the heat l-ḥara and garments wasarābīla to protect you taqīkum from your (mutual) violence basakum Thus kadhālika He completes yutimmu His Favor niʿ'matahu upon you ʿalaykum so that you may laʿallakum submit tus'limūna
And Allāh has made for you, from that which He has created, shadows [i.e., shade] and has made for you from the mountains, shelters and has made for you garments which protect you from the heat and garments [i.e., coats of mail] which protect you from your [enemy in] battle. Thus does He complete His favor upon you that you might submit [to Him].
فَإِن Then, if fa-in they turn away tawallaw then only fa-innamā upon you ʿalayka (is) the conveyance l-balāghu the clear l-mubīnu
But if they turn away, [O Muḥammad] - then only upon you is [responsibility for] clear notification.
يَعْرِفُونَ They recognize yaʿrifūna (the) Favor niʿ'mata (of) Allah l-lahi then thumma they deny it yunkirūnahā And most of them wa-aktharuhumu (are) the disbelievers l-kāfirūna
They recognize the favor of Allāh; then they deny it. And most of them are disbelievers.
وَيَوْمَ And the Day wayawma We will resurrect nabʿathu from min every kulli nation ummatin a witness shahīdan then thumma not lā will be permitted yu'dhanu to those who lilladhīna disbelieved kafarū and not walā they hum will be asked to make amends yus'taʿtabūna
And [mention] the Day when We will resurrect from every nation a witness [i.e., their prophet]. Then it will not be permitted to the disbelievers [to apologize or make excuses], nor will they be asked to appease [Allāh].
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā (will) see raā those who alladhīna wronged ẓalamū the punishment l-ʿadhāba then not falā it will be lightened yukhaffafu for them ʿanhum and not walā they hum will be given respite yunẓarūna
And when those who wronged see the punishment, it will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved.
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā (will) see raā those who alladhīna associated partners with Allah ashrakū their partners shurakāahum They will say qālū Our Lord rabbanā these hāulāi (are) our partners shurakāunā those whom alladhīna we used to kunnā invoke nadʿū besides You min besides You dūnika But they (will) throw back fa-alqaw at them ilayhimu (their) word l-qawla Indeed, you innakum (are) surely liars lakādhibūna
And when those who associated others with Allāh see their "partners," they will say, "Our Lord, these are our partners [to You] whom we used to invoke [in worship] besides You." But they will throw at them the statement, "Indeed, you are liars."
وَأَلْقَوْا۟ And they (will) offer wa-alqaw to ilā Allah l-lahi (on) that Day yawma-idhin the submission l-salama and (is) lost waḍalla from them ʿanhum what mā they used (to) kānū invent yaftarūna
And they will impart to Allāh that Day [their] submission, and lost from them is what they used to invent.
ٱلَّذِينَ And those who alladhīna disbelieved kafarū and hindered waṣaddū from ʿan (the) way sabīli (of) Allah l-lahi We will increase them zid'nāhum (in) punishment ʿadhāban over fawqa punishment l-ʿadhābi because bimā they used (to) kānū spread corruption yuf'sidūna
Those who disbelieved and averted [others] from the way of Allāh - We will increase them in punishment over [their] punishment for what corruption they were causing.
وَيَوْمَ And the Day wayawma We will resurrect nabʿathu among fī every kulli nation ummatin a witness shahīdan over them ʿalayhim from min themselves anfusihim And We (will) bring waji'nā you bika (as) a witness shahīdan over ʿalā these hāulāi And We sent down wanazzalnā to you ʿalayka the Book l-kitāba (as) a clarification tib'yānan of every likulli thing shayin and a guidance wahudan and mercy waraḥmatan and glad tidings wabush'rā for the Muslims lil'mus'limīna
And [mention] the Day when We will resurrect among every nation a witness over them from themselves [i.e., their prophet]. And We will bring you, [O Muḥammad], as a witness over these [i.e., your nation]. And We have sent down to you the Book as clarification for all things and as guidance and mercy and good tidings for the Muslims.1
۞ إِنَّ Indeed inna Allah l-laha commands yamuru justice bil-ʿadli and the good wal-iḥ'sāni and giving waītāi (to) relatives dhī (to) relatives l-qur'bā and forbids wayanhā [from] ʿani the immorality l-faḥshāi and the bad wal-munkari and the oppression wal-baghyi He admonishes you yaʿiẓukum so that you may laʿallakum take heed tadhakkarūna
Indeed, Allāh orders justice and good conduct and giving [help] to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.
وَأَوْفُوا۟ And fulfil wa-awfū the covenant biʿahdi (of) Allah l-lahi when idhā you have taken a covenant ʿāhadttum and (do) not walā break tanquḍū oaths l-aymāna after baʿda their confirmation tawkīdihā while verily waqad you have made jaʿaltumu Allah l-laha over you ʿalaykum a surety kafīlan Indeed inna Allah l-laha knows yaʿlamu what mā you do tafʿalūna
And fulfill the covenant of Allāh when you have taken it, [O believers], and do not break oaths after their confirmation while you have made Allāh, over you, a security [i.e., witness]. Indeed, Allāh knows what you do.
وَلَا And (do) not walā be takūnū like her who ka-allatī untwists naqaḍat her spun yarn ghazlahā after min after baʿdi strength quwwatin (into) untwisted strands ankāthan you take tattakhidhūna your oaths aymānakum (as) a deception dakhalan between you baynakum because an is takūna a community ummatun [it] hiya more numerous arbā than min (another) community ummatin Only innamā Allah tests you yablūkumu Allah tests you l-lahu by it bihi And He will make clear walayubayyinanna to you lakum (on) the Day yawma (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati what mā you used (to) kuntum in it fīhi differ takhtalifūna
And do not be like she who untwisted her spun thread after it was strong [by] taking your oaths as [means of] deceit between you because one community is more plentiful [in number or wealth] than another community.1 Allāh only tries you thereby. And He will surely make clear to you on the Day of Resurrection that over which you used to differ.
وَلَوْ And if walaw Allah (had) willed shāa Allah (had) willed l-lahu surely He (could) have made you lajaʿalakum a nation ummatan one wāḥidatan but walākin He lets go astray yuḍillu whom man He wills yashāu and guides wayahdī whom man He wills yashāu And surely you will be questioned walatus'alunna about what ʿammā you used (to) kuntum do taʿmalūna
And if Allāh had willed, He could have made you [of] one religion, but He sends astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills.1 And you will surely be questioned about what you used to do.
وَلَا And (do) not walā take tattakhidhū your oaths aymānakum (as) a deception dakhalan between you baynakum lest, should slip fatazilla a foot qadamun after baʿda it is firmly planted thubūtihā and you would taste watadhūqū the evil l-sūa for what bimā you hindered ṣadadttum from ʿan (the) way sabīli (of) Allah l-lahi and for you walakum (is) a punishment ʿadhābun great ʿaẓīmun
And do not take your oaths as [means of] deceit between you, lest a foot slip after it was [once] firm, and you would taste evil [in this world] for what [people] you diverted from the way of Allāh,1 and you would have [in the Hereafter] a great punishment.
وَلَا And (do) not walā exchange tashtarū the covenant biʿahdi (of) Allah l-lahi (for) a price thamanan little qalīlan Indeed, what innamā (is) with ʿinda Allah l-lahi it huwa (is) better khayrun for you lakum if in you were (to) kuntum know taʿlamūna
And do not exchange the covenant of Allāh for a small price. Indeed, what is with Allāh is best for you, if only you could know.
مَا Whatever mā (is) with you ʿindakum will be exhausted yanfadu and whatever wamā (is) with ʿinda Allah l-lahi (will) be remaining bāqin And surely We will pay walanajziyanna those who alladhīna (are) patient ṣabarū their reward ajrahum to (the) best bi-aḥsani (of) what mā they used (to) kānū do yaʿmalūna
Whatever you have will end, but what Allāh has is lasting. And We will surely give those who were patient their reward according to the best of what they used to do.
مَنْ Whoever man does ʿamila righteous deeds ṣāliḥan whether min male dhakarin or aw female unthā while he wahuwa (is) a believer mu'minun then surely We will give him life falanuḥ'yiyannahu a life ḥayatan good ṭayyibatan and We will pay them walanajziyannahum their reward ajrahum to (the) best bi-aḥsani of what mā they used (to) kānū do yaʿmalūna
Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used to do.
فَإِذَا So when fa-idhā you recite qarata the Quran l-qur'āna seek refuge fa-is'taʿidh in Allah bil-lahi from mina the Shaitaan l-shayṭāni the accursed l-rajīmi
So when you recite the Qur’ān, [first] seek refuge in Allāh from Satan, the expelled [from His mercy].
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed he innahu not laysa for him lahu (is) any authority sul'ṭānun on ʿalā those who alladhīna believe āmanū and upon waʿalā their Lord rabbihim they put their trust yatawakkalūna
Indeed, there is for him no authority over those who have believed and rely upon their Lord.
إِنَّمَا Only innamā his authority sul'ṭānuhu (is) over ʿalā those who alladhīna take him as an ally yatawallawnahu and those who wa-alladhīna [they] hum with Him bihi associate partners mush'rikūna
His authority is only over those who take him as an ally and those who through him associate others with Allāh.
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā We substitute baddalnā a Verse āyatan (in) place makāna (of) a Verse āyatin and Allah wal-lahu (is) most knowing aʿlamu of what bimā He sends down yunazzilu they say qālū Only innamā you anta (are) an inventor muf'tarin Nay bal most of them aktharuhum (do) not lā know yaʿlamūna
And when We substitute a verse in place of a verse - and Allāh is most knowing of what He sends down - they say, "You, [O Muḥammad], are but an inventor [of lies]." But most of them do not know.
قُلْ Say qul Has brought it down nazzalahu the Holy Spirit rūḥu the Holy Spirit l-qudusi from min your Lord rabbika in truth bil-ḥaqi to make firm liyuthabbita those who alladhīna believe āmanū and (as) a guidance wahudan and glad tidings wabush'rā to the Muslims lil'mus'limīna
Say, [O Muḥammad], "The Pure Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] has brought it down from your Lord in truth to make firm those who believe and as guidance and good tidings to the Muslims."
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad We know naʿlamu that they annahum say yaqūlūna Only innamā teaches him yuʿallimuhu a human being basharun (The) tongue lisānu (of) the one alladhī they refer yul'ḥidūna to him ilayhi (is) foreign aʿjamiyyun while this wahādhā (is) a language lisānun Arabic ʿarabiyyun clear mubīnun
And We certainly know that they say, "It is only a human being who teaches him [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)]." The tongue of the one they refer to is foreign,1 and this [recitation, i.e., Qur’ān] is [in] a clear Arabic language.
إِنَّ Indeed inna those who alladhīna (do) not lā believe yu'minūna in the Verses biāyāti (of) Allah l-lahi not lā Allah will guide them yahdīhimu Allah will guide them l-lahu and for them walahum (is) a punishment ʿadhābun painful alīmun
Indeed, those who do not believe in the verses of Allāh - Allāh will not guide them, and for them is a painful punishment.
إِنَّمَا Only innamā they invent yaftarī the falsehood l-kadhiba those who alladhīna (do) not lā believe yu'minūna in the Verses biāyāti (of) Allah l-lahi and those wa-ulāika they humu (are) the liars l-kādhibūna
They only invent falsehood who do not believe in the verses of Allāh, and it is those who are the liars.
مَن Whoever man disbelieves kafara in Allah bil-lahi after min after baʿdi his belief īmānihi except illā (one) who man is forced uk'riha while his heart waqalbuhu (is) content muṭ'ma-innun with the faith bil-īmāni But walākin (one) who man opens sharaḥa to disbelief bil-kuf'ri (his) breast ṣadran then upon them faʿalayhim (is) a wrath ghaḍabun of mina Allah l-lahi and for them walahum (is) a punishment ʿadhābun great ʿaẓīmun
Whoever disbelieves in [i.e., denies] Allāh after his belief...1 except for one who is forced [to renounce his religion] while his heart is secure in faith. But those who [willingly] open their breasts to disbelief, upon them is wrath from Allāh, and for them is a great punishment;
ذَٰلِكَ That (is) dhālika because bi-annahumu they preferred is'taḥabbū the life l-ḥayata (of) the world l-dun'yā over ʿalā the Hereafter l-ākhirati and that wa-anna Allah l-laha (does) not lā guide yahdī the people l-qawma the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
That is because they preferred the worldly life over the Hereafter and that Allāh does not guide the disbelieving people.
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika (are) the ones alladhīna Allah has set a seal ṭabaʿa Allah has set a seal l-lahu over ʿalā their hearts qulūbihim and their hearing wasamʿihim and their sight wa-abṣārihim And those wa-ulāika they are humu the heedless l-ghāfilūna
Those are the ones over whose hearts and hearing and vision Allāh has sealed, and it is those who are the heedless.
لَا No lā doubt jarama that they annahum in fī the Hereafter l-ākhirati [they] humu (are) the losers l-khāsirūna
Assuredly, it is they, in the Hereafter, who will be the losers.
ثُمَّ Then thumma indeed inna your Lord rabbaka to those who lilladhīna emigrated hājarū after min after baʿdi what mā they had been put to trials futinū then thumma strove hard jāhadū and were patient waṣabarū Indeed inna your Lord rabbaka after it min after it baʿdihā surely is Oft-Forgiving laghafūrun Most Merciful raḥīmun
Then, indeed your Lord, to those who emigrated after they had been compelled [to say words of disbelief] and thereafter fought [for the cause of Allāh] and were patient - indeed, your Lord, after that, is Forgiving and Merciful
۞ يَوْمَ (On) the Day yawma (when) will come tatī every kullu soul nafsin pleading tujādilu for ʿan itself nafsihā and will be paid in full watuwaffā every kullu soul nafsin what mā it did ʿamilat and they wahum (will) not lā be wronged yuẓ'lamūna
On the Day when every soul will come disputing [i.e., pleading] for itself, and every soul will be fully compensated for what it did, and they will not be wronged [i.e., treated unjustly].
وَضَرَبَ And Allah sets forth waḍaraba And Allah sets forth l-lahu a similitude mathalan (of) a town qaryatan (that) was kānat secure āminatan and content muṭ'ma-innatan coming to it yatīhā its provision riz'quhā (in) abundance raghadan from min every kulli place makānin but it denied fakafarat (the) Favors of Allah bi-anʿumi (the) Favors of Allah l-lahi so Allah made it taste fa-adhāqahā so Allah made it taste l-lahu (the) garb libāsa (of) the hunger l-jūʿi and the fear wal-khawfi for what bimā they used (to) kānū do yaṣnaʿūna
And Allāh presents an example: a city [i.e., Makkah] which was safe and secure, its provision coming to it in abundance from every location, but it denied the favors of Allāh. So Allāh made it taste the envelopment of hunger and fear for what they had been doing.
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad came to them jāahum a Messenger rasūlun from among them min'hum but they denied him fakadhabūhu so seized them fa-akhadhahumu the punishment l-ʿadhābu while they wahum (were) wrongdoers ẓālimūna
And there had certainly come to them a Messenger from among themselves, but they denied him; so punishment overtook them while they were wrongdoers.
فَكُلُوا۟ So eat fakulū of what mimmā Allah has provided you razaqakumu Allah has provided you l-lahu lawful ḥalālan and good ṭayyiban And be grateful wa-ush'kurū (for the) Favor niʿ'mata (of) Allah l-lahi if in [you] kuntum Him Alone iyyāhu you worship taʿbudūna
Then eat of what Allāh has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And be grateful for the favor of Allāh, if it is [indeed] Him that you worship.
إِنَّمَا Only innamā He has forbidden ḥarrama to you ʿalaykumu the dead animal l-maytata and the blood wal-dama and the flesh walaḥma (of) the swine l-khinzīri and what wamā has been dedicated uhilla to other (than) lighayri Allah l-lahi [with it] bihi But (if) one famani (is) forced uḍ'ṭurra without (being) ghayra disobedient bāghin and not walā a transgressor ʿādin then indeed fa-inna Allah l-laha (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun Most Merciful raḥīmun
He has only forbidden to you dead animals,1 blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allāh. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit] - then indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
وَلَا And (do) not walā say taqūlū for that which limā assert taṣifu your tongues alsinatukumu the lie l-kadhiba This hādhā (is) lawful ḥalālun and this wahādhā (is) forbidden ḥarāmun so that you invent litaftarū about ʿalā Allah l-lahi the lie l-kadhiba Indeed inna those who alladhīna invent yaftarūna about ʿalā Allah l-lahi the lie l-kadhiba they will not succeed lā they will not succeed yuf'liḥūna
And do not say about what your tongues assert of untruth, "This is lawful and this is unlawful," to invent falsehood about Allāh. Indeed, those who invent falsehood about Allāh will not succeed.
