An-Naĥl

The Bee

النحل

أَتَىٰٓ

Will come

atā

أَمْرُ

(the) command of Allah

amru

ٱللَّهِ

(the) command of Allah

l-lahi

فَلَا

so (do) not

falā

تَسْتَعْجِلُوهُ ۚ

(be) impatient for it

tastaʿjilūhu

سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ

Glorified is He

sub'ḥānahu

وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ

and Exalted (is) He

wataʿālā

عَمَّا

above what

ʿammā

يُشْرِكُونَ

they associate

yush'rikūna

١

The command of Allāh is coming,1 so be not impatient for it. Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him.

— Saheeh International

يُنَزِّلُ

He sends down

yunazzilu

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ

the Angels

l-malāikata

بِٱلرُّوحِ

with the inspiration

bil-rūḥi

مِنْ

of

min

أَمْرِهِۦ

His Command

amrihi

عَلَىٰ

upon

ʿalā

مَن

whom

man

يَشَآءُ

He wills

yashāu

مِنْ

of

min

عِبَادِهِۦٓ

His slaves

ʿibādihi

أَنْ

that

an

أَنذِرُوٓا۟

Warn

andhirū

أَنَّهُۥ

that [He]

annahu

لَآ

(there is) no

إِلَـٰهَ

god

ilāha

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَنَا۠

Me

anā

فَٱتَّقُونِ

so fear Me

fa-ittaqūni

٢

He sends down the angels, with the inspiration [i.e., revelation] of His command, upon whom He wills of His servants, [telling them], "Warn that there is no deity except Me; so fear Me."

— Saheeh International

خَلَقَ

He created

khalaqa

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

تَعَـٰلَىٰ

Exalted is He

taʿālā

عَمَّا

above what

ʿammā

يُشْرِكُونَ

they associate

yush'rikūna

٣

He created the heavens and earth in truth. High is He above what they associate with Him.

— Saheeh International

خَلَقَ

He created

khalaqa

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ

the human kind

l-insāna

مِن

from

min

نُّطْفَةٍۢ

a minute quantity of semen

nuṭ'fatin

فَإِذَا

then behold

fa-idhā

هُوَ

he

huwa

خَصِيمٌۭ

(is) an opponent

khaṣīmun

مُّبِينٌۭ

clear

mubīnun

٤

He created man from a sperm-drop; then at once1 he is a clear adversary.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمَ

And the cattle

wal-anʿāma

خَلَقَهَا ۗ

He created them

khalaqahā

لَكُمْ

for you

lakum

فِيهَا

in them

fīhā

دِفْءٌۭ

(is) warmth

dif'on

وَمَنَـٰفِعُ

and benefits

wamanāfiʿu

وَمِنْهَا

and from them

wamin'hā

تَأْكُلُونَ

you eat

takulūna

٥

And the grazing livestock He has created for you; in them is warmth1 and [numerous] benefits, and from them you eat.

— Saheeh International

وَلَكُمْ

And for you

walakum

فِيهَا

in them

fīhā

جَمَالٌ

(is) beauty

jamālun

حِينَ

when

ḥīna

تُرِيحُونَ

you bring them in

turīḥūna

وَحِينَ

and when

waḥīna

تَسْرَحُونَ

you take them out

tasraḥūna

٦

And for you in them is [the enjoyment of] beauty when you bring them in [for the evening] and when you send them out [to pasture].

— Saheeh International

وَتَحْمِلُ

And they carry

wataḥmilu

أَثْقَالَكُمْ

your loads

athqālakum

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

بَلَدٍۢ

a land

baladin

لَّمْ

not

lam

تَكُونُوا۟

you could

takūnū

بَـٰلِغِيهِ

reach it

bālighīhi

إِلَّا

except

illā

بِشِقِّ

with great trouble

bishiqqi

ٱلْأَنفُسِ ۚ

(to) yourselves

l-anfusi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

رَبَّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbakum

لَرَءُوفٌۭ

surely is Most Kind

laraūfun

رَّحِيمٌۭ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

٧

And they carry your loads to a land you could not have reached except with difficulty to yourselves. Indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلْخَيْلَ

And horses

wal-khayla

وَٱلْبِغَالَ

and mules

wal-bighāla

وَٱلْحَمِيرَ

and donkeys

wal-ḥamīra

لِتَرْكَبُوهَا

for you to ride them

litarkabūhā

وَزِينَةًۭ ۚ

and (as) adornment

wazīnatan

وَيَخْلُقُ

And He creates

wayakhluqu

مَا

what

لَا

not

تَعْلَمُونَ

you know

taʿlamūna

٨

And [He created] the horses, mules and donkeys for you to ride and [as] adornment. And He creates that which you do not know.

— Saheeh International

وَعَلَى

And upon

waʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

قَصْدُ

(is) the direction

qaṣdu

ٱلسَّبِيلِ

(of) the way

l-sabīli

وَمِنْهَا

and among them

wamin'hā

جَآئِرٌۭ ۚ

(are) crooked

jāirun

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

شَآءَ

He willed

shāa

لَهَدَىٰكُمْ

surely He would have guided you

lahadākum

أَجْمَعِينَ

all

ajmaʿīna

٩

And upon Allāh1 is the direction of the [right] way, and among them [i.e., the various paths] are those deviating. And if He willed, He could have guided you all.

— Saheeh International

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلَّذِىٓ

(is) the One Who

alladhī

أَنزَلَ

sends down

anzala

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

مَآءًۭ ۖ

water

māan

لَّكُم

for you

lakum

مِّنْهُ

of it

min'hu

شَرَابٌۭ

(is) drink

sharābun

وَمِنْهُ

and from it

wamin'hu

شَجَرٌۭ

(grows) vegetation

shajarun

فِيهِ

in which

fīhi

تُسِيمُونَ

you pasture your cattle

tusīmūna

١٠

It is He who sends down rain from the sky; from it is drink and from it is foliage in which you pasture [animals].

— Saheeh International

يُنۢبِتُ

He causes to grow

yunbitu

لَكُم

for you

lakum

بِهِ

with it

bihi

ٱلزَّرْعَ

the crops

l-zarʿa

وَٱلزَّيْتُونَ

and the olives

wal-zaytūna

وَٱلنَّخِيلَ

and the date-palms

wal-nakhīla

وَٱلْأَعْنَـٰبَ

and the grapes

wal-aʿnāba

وَمِن

and of

wamin

كُلِّ

every kind

kulli

ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ ۗ

(of) fruits

l-thamarāti

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَةًۭ

surely (is) a sign

laāyatan

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

who reflect

yatafakkarūna

١١

He causes to grow for you thereby the crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and of all the fruits. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.

— Saheeh International

وَسَخَّرَ

And He has subjected

wasakhara

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلَّيْلَ

the night

al-layla

وَٱلنَّهَارَ

and the day

wal-nahāra

وَٱلشَّمْسَ

and the sun

wal-shamsa

وَٱلْقَمَرَ ۖ

and the moon

wal-qamara

وَٱلنُّجُومُ

and the stars

wal-nujūmu

مُسَخَّرَٰتٌۢ

(are) subjected

musakharātun

بِأَمْرِهِۦٓ ۗ

by His command

bi-amrihi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

surely (are) signs

laāyātin

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَعْقِلُونَ

who use reason

yaʿqilūna

١٢

And He has subjected for you the night and day and the sun and moon, and the stars are subjected by His command. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And whatever

wamā

ذَرَأَ

He multiplied

dhara-a

لَكُمْ

for you

lakum

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

مُخْتَلِفًا

(of) varying

mukh'talifan

أَلْوَٰنُهُۥٓ ۗ

colors

alwānuhu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَةًۭ

surely (is) a sign

laāyatan

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَذَّكَّرُونَ

who remember

yadhakkarūna

١٣

And [He has subjected] whatever He multiplied for you on the earth of varying colors. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who remember.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

سَخَّرَ

subjected

sakhara

ٱلْبَحْرَ

the sea

l-baḥra

لِتَأْكُلُوا۟

for you to eat

litakulū

مِنْهُ

from it

min'hu

لَحْمًۭا

meat

laḥman

طَرِيًّۭا

fresh

ṭariyyan

وَتَسْتَخْرِجُوا۟

and that you bring forth

watastakhrijū

مِنْهُ

from it

min'hu

حِلْيَةًۭ

ornaments

ḥil'yatan

تَلْبَسُونَهَا

(that) you wear them

talbasūnahā

وَتَرَى

And you see

watarā

ٱلْفُلْكَ

the ships

l-ful'ka

مَوَاخِرَ

ploughing

mawākhira

فِيهِ

through it

fīhi

وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟

and that you may seek

walitabtaghū

مِن

of

min

فَضْلِهِۦ

His Bounty

faḍlihi

وَلَعَلَّكُمْ

and that you may

walaʿallakum

تَشْكُرُونَ

(be) grateful

tashkurūna

١٤

And it is He who subjected the sea for you to eat from it tender meat and to extract from it ornaments which you wear. And you see the ships plowing through it, and [He subjected it] that you may seek of His bounty; and perhaps you will be grateful.

— Saheeh International

وَأَلْقَىٰ

And He has cast

wa-alqā

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

رَوَٰسِىَ

firm mountains

rawāsiya

أَن

lest

an

تَمِيدَ

it should shake

tamīda

بِكُمْ

with you

bikum

وَأَنْهَـٰرًۭا

and rivers

wa-anhāran

وَسُبُلًۭا

and roads

wasubulan

لَّعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تَهْتَدُونَ

be guided

tahtadūna

١٥

And He has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it shift with you, and [made] rivers and roads, that you may be guided,

— Saheeh International

وَعَلَـٰمَـٰتٍۢ ۚ

And landmarks

waʿalāmātin

وَبِٱلنَّجْمِ

And by the stars

wabil-najmi

هُمْ

they

hum

يَهْتَدُونَ

guide themselves

yahtadūna

١٦

And landmarks. And by the stars they are [also] guided.1

— Saheeh International

أَفَمَن

Then is He Who

afaman

يَخْلُقُ

creates

yakhluqu

كَمَن

like one who

kaman

لَّا

(does) not

يَخْلُقُ ۗ

create

yakhluqu

أَفَلَا

Then will you not

afalā

تَذَكَّرُونَ

remember

tadhakkarūna

١٧

Then is He who creates like one who does not create? So will you not be reminded?

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

تَعُدُّوا۟

you should count

taʿuddū

نِعْمَةَ

the Favors of Allah

niʿ'mata

ٱللَّهِ

the Favors of Allah

l-lahi

لَا

not

تُحْصُوهَآ ۗ

you could enumerate them

tuḥ'ṣūhā

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَغَفُورٌۭ

(is) Oft-Forgiving

laghafūrun

رَّحِيمٌۭ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

١٨

And if you should count the favors of Allāh, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

— Saheeh International

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

يَعْلَمُ

knows

yaʿlamu

مَا

what

تُسِرُّونَ

you conceal

tusirrūna

وَمَا

and what

wamā

تُعْلِنُونَ

you reveal

tuʿ'linūna

١٩

And Allāh knows what you conceal and what you declare.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those whom

wa-alladhīna

يَدْعُونَ

they invoke

yadʿūna

مِن

besides

min

دُونِ

besides

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

لَا

not

يَخْلُقُونَ

they create

yakhluqūna

شَيْـًۭٔا

anything

shayan

وَهُمْ

but (are) themselves

wahum

يُخْلَقُونَ

created

yukh'laqūna

٢٠

And those they invoke other than Allāh create nothing, and they [themselves] are created.

— Saheeh International

أَمْوَٰتٌ

(They are) dead

amwātun

غَيْرُ

not alive

ghayru

أَحْيَآءٍۢ ۖ

not alive

aḥyāin

وَمَا

And not

wamā

يَشْعُرُونَ

they perceive

yashʿurūna

أَيَّانَ

when

ayyāna

يُبْعَثُونَ

they will be resurrected

yub'ʿathūna

٢١

They are [in fact] dead,1 not alive, and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected.

— Saheeh International

إِلَـٰهُكُمْ

Your god

ilāhukum

إِلَـٰهٌۭ

(is) God

ilāhun

وَٰحِدٌۭ ۚ

One

wāḥidun

فَٱلَّذِينَ

But those who

fa-alladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

in the Hereafter

bil-ākhirati

قُلُوبُهُم

their hearts

qulūbuhum

مُّنكِرَةٌۭ

refuse

munkiratun

وَهُم

and they

wahum

مُّسْتَكْبِرُونَ

(are) arrogant

mus'takbirūna

٢٢

Your god is one God. But those who do not believe in the Hereafter - their hearts are disapproving, and they are arrogant.

— Saheeh International

لَا

No doubt

جَرَمَ

No doubt

jarama

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَعْلَمُ

knows

yaʿlamu

مَا

what

يُسِرُّونَ

they conceal

yusirrūna

وَمَا

and what

wamā

يُعْلِنُونَ ۚ

they reveal

yuʿ'linūna

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, He

innahu

لَا

(does) not

يُحِبُّ

love

yuḥibbu

ٱلْمُسْتَكْبِرِينَ

the arrogant ones

l-mus'takbirīna

٢٣

Assuredly, Allāh knows what they conceal and what they declare. Indeed, He does not like the arrogant.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

قِيلَ

it is said

qīla

لَهُم

to them

lahum

مَّاذَآ

What

mādhā

أَنزَلَ

has your Lord sent down

anzala

رَبُّكُمْ ۙ

has your Lord sent down

rabbukum

قَالُوٓا۟

They say

qālū

أَسَـٰطِيرُ

Tales

asāṭīru

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

(of) the ancient

l-awalīna

٢٤

And when it is said to them, "What has your Lord sent down?" they say, "Legends of the former peoples,"

— Saheeh International

لِيَحْمِلُوٓا۟

That they may bear

liyaḥmilū

أَوْزَارَهُمْ

their own burdens

awzārahum

كَامِلَةًۭ

(in) full

kāmilatan

يَوْمَ

on (the) Day

yawma

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۙ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

وَمِنْ

and of

wamin

أَوْزَارِ

the burdens

awzāri

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those whom

alladhīna

يُضِلُّونَهُم

they misled [them]

yuḍillūnahum

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

عِلْمٍ ۗ

knowledge

ʿil'min

أَلَا

Unquestionably

alā

سَآءَ

evil

sāa

مَا

(is) what

يَزِرُونَ

they will bear

yazirūna

٢٥

That they may bear their own burdens [i.e., sins] in full on the Day of Resurrection and some of the burdens of those whom they misguide without [i.e., by lack of] knowledge. Unquestionably, evil is that which they bear.

— Saheeh International

قَدْ

Verily

qad

مَكَرَ

plotted

makara

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

مِن

(were) before them

min

قَبْلِهِمْ

(were) before them

qablihim

فَأَتَى

but Allah came

fa-atā

ٱللَّهُ

but Allah came

l-lahu

بُنْيَـٰنَهُم

(at) their building

bun'yānahum

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلْقَوَاعِدِ

the foundations

l-qawāʿidi

فَخَرَّ

so fell

fakharra

عَلَيْهِمُ

upon them

ʿalayhimu

ٱلسَّقْفُ

the roof

l-saqfu

مِن

from

min

فَوْقِهِمْ

above them

fawqihim

وَأَتَىٰهُمُ

and came to them

wa-atāhumu

ٱلْعَذَابُ

the punishment

l-ʿadhābu

مِنْ

from

min

حَيْثُ

where

ḥaythu

لَا

they (did) not perceive

يَشْعُرُونَ

they (did) not perceive

yashʿurūna

٢٦

Those before them had already plotted, but Allāh came at [i.e., uprooted] their building from the foundations, so the roof fell upon them from above them,1 and the punishment came to them from where they did not perceive.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

يَوْمَ

(on) the Day

yawma

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

يُخْزِيهِمْ

He will disgrace them

yukh'zīhim

وَيَقُولُ

and say

wayaqūlu

أَيْنَ

Where

ayna

شُرَكَآءِىَ

(are) My partners

shurakāiya

ٱلَّذِينَ

those (for) whom

alladhīna

كُنتُمْ

you used (to)

kuntum

تُشَـٰٓقُّونَ

oppose

tushāqqūna

فِيهِمْ ۚ

[in them]

fīhim

قَالَ

Will say

qāla

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

أُوتُوا۟

were given

ūtū

ٱلْعِلْمَ

the knowledge

l-ʿil'ma

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلْخِزْىَ

the disgrace

l-khiz'ya

ٱلْيَوْمَ

this Day

l-yawma

وَٱلسُّوٓءَ

and evil

wal-sūa

عَلَى

(are) upon

ʿalā

ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

the disbelievers

l-kāfirīna

٢٧

Then on the Day of Resurrection He will disgrace them and say, "Where are My 'partners' for whom you used to oppose [the believers]?" Those who were given knowledge will say, "Indeed disgrace, this Day, and evil are upon the disbelievers" -

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those whom

alladhīna

تَتَوَفَّىٰهُمُ

take them in death

tatawaffāhumu

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ

the Angels

l-malāikatu

ظَالِمِىٓ

(while) wronging

ẓālimī

أَنفُسِهِمْ ۖ

themselves

anfusihim

فَأَلْقَوُا۟

then they would offer

fa-alqawū

ٱلسَّلَمَ

the submission

l-salama

مَا

Not

كُنَّا

we were

kunnā

نَعْمَلُ

doing

naʿmalu

مِن

any

min

سُوٓءٍۭ ۚ

evil

sūin

بَلَىٰٓ

Nay

balā

إِنَّ

indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَلِيمٌۢ

(is) All-Knower

ʿalīmun

بِمَا

of what

bimā

كُنتُمْ

you used (to)

kuntum

تَعْمَلُونَ

do

taʿmalūna

٢٨

The ones whom the angels take in death [while] wronging themselves,1 and [who] then offer submission, [saying], "We were not doing any evil." But, yes! Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of what you used to do.

— Saheeh International

فَٱدْخُلُوٓا۟

So enter

fa-ud'khulū

أَبْوَٰبَ

(the) gates

abwāba

جَهَنَّمَ

(of) Hell

jahannama

خَـٰلِدِينَ

(to) abide forever

khālidīna

فِيهَا ۖ

in it

fīhā

فَلَبِئْسَ

Surely, wretched

falabi'sa

مَثْوَى

(is the) abode

mathwā

ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ

(of) the arrogant

l-mutakabirīna

٢٩

So enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and how wretched is the residence of the arrogant.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَقِيلَ

And it will be said

waqīla

لِلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

ٱتَّقَوْا۟

fear Allah

ittaqaw

مَاذَآ

What

mādhā

أَنزَلَ

has your Lord sent down

anzala

رَبُّكُمْ ۚ

has your Lord sent down

rabbukum

قَالُوا۟

They will say

qālū

خَيْرًۭا ۗ

Good

khayran

لِّلَّذِينَ

For those who

lilladhīna

أَحْسَنُوا۟

do good

aḥsanū

فِى

in

هَـٰذِهِ

this

hādhihi

ٱلدُّنْيَا

world

l-dun'yā

حَسَنَةٌۭ ۚ

(is) a good

ḥasanatun

وَلَدَارُ

and the home

waladāru

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

of the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

خَيْرٌۭ ۚ

(is) better

khayrun

وَلَنِعْمَ

And surely excellent

walaniʿ'ma

دَارُ

(is) the home

dāru

ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

(of) the righteous

l-mutaqīna

٣٠

And it will be said to those who feared Allāh, "What did your Lord send down?" They will say, "[That which is] good." For those who do good in this world is good; and the home of the Hereafter is better. And how excellent is the home of the righteous -

— Saheeh International

جَنَّـٰتُ

Gardens

jannātu

عَدْنٍۢ

(of) Eden

ʿadnin

يَدْخُلُونَهَا

which they will enter

yadkhulūnahā

تَجْرِى

flows

tajrī

مِن

from

min

تَحْتِهَا

underneath them

taḥtihā

ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ

the rivers

l-anhāru

لَهُمْ

For them

lahum

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

مَا

(will be) whatever

يَشَآءُونَ ۚ

they wish

yashāūna

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

يَجْزِى

Allah rewards

yajzī

ٱللَّهُ

Allah rewards

l-lahu

ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

the righteous

l-mutaqīna

٣١

Gardens of perpetual residence, which they will enter, beneath which rivers flow. They will have therein whatever they wish. Thus does Allāh reward the righteous -

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those whom

alladhīna

تَتَوَفَّىٰهُمُ

take them in death

tatawaffāhumu

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ

the Angels

l-malāikatu

طَيِّبِينَ ۙ

(when they are) pure

ṭayyibīna

يَقُولُونَ

saying

yaqūlūna

سَلَـٰمٌ

Peace

salāmun

عَلَيْكُمُ

(be) upon you

ʿalaykumu

ٱدْخُلُوا۟

Enter

ud'khulū

ٱلْجَنَّةَ

Paradise

l-janata

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كُنتُمْ

you used (to)

kuntum

تَعْمَلُونَ

do

taʿmalūna

٣٢

The ones whom the angels take in death, [being] good and pure; [the angels] will say, "Peace be upon you. Enter Paradise for what you used to do."

— Saheeh International

هَلْ

Do

hal

يَنظُرُونَ

they wait

yanẓurūna

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَن

that

an

تَأْتِيَهُمُ

(should) come to them

tatiyahumu

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ

the Angels

l-malāikatu

أَوْ

or

aw

يَأْتِىَ

(should) come

yatiya

أَمْرُ

(the) Command

amru

رَبِّكَ ۚ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

فَعَلَ

did

faʿala

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

مِن

(were) before them

min

قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ

(were) before them

qablihim

وَمَا

And not

wamā

ظَلَمَهُمُ

wronged them

ẓalamahumu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

وَلَـٰكِن

but

walākin

كَانُوٓا۟

they were

kānū

أَنفُسَهُمْ

themselves

anfusahum

يَظْلِمُونَ

wronging

yaẓlimūna

٣٣

Do they [i.e., the disbelievers] await except that the angels should come to them or there comes the command of your Lord? Thus did those do before them. And Allāh wronged them not, but they had been wronging themselves.

— Saheeh International

فَأَصَابَهُمْ

Then struck them

fa-aṣābahum

سَيِّـَٔاتُ

(the) evil (results)

sayyiātu

مَا

(of) what

عَمِلُوا۟

they did

ʿamilū

وَحَاقَ

and surrounded

waḥāqa

بِهِم

them

bihim

مَّا

what

كَانُوا۟

they used (to)

kānū

بِهِۦ

[of it]

bihi

يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

mock

yastahziūna

٣٤

So they were struck by the evil consequences of what they did and were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And said

waqāla

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

أَشْرَكُوا۟

associate partners (with Allah)

ashrakū

لَوْ

If

law

شَآءَ

Allah (had) willed

shāa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah (had) willed

l-lahu

مَا

not

عَبَدْنَا

we (would) have worshipped

ʿabadnā

مِن

other than Him

min

دُونِهِۦ

other than Him

dūnihi

مِن

any

min

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

نَّحْنُ

we

naḥnu

وَلَآ

and not

walā

ءَابَآؤُنَا

our forefathers

ābāunā

وَلَا

and not

walā

حَرَّمْنَا

we (would) have forbidden

ḥarramnā

مِن

other than Him

min

دُونِهِۦ

other than Him

dūnihi

مِن

anything

min

شَىْءٍۢ ۚ

anything

shayin

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

فَعَلَ

did

faʿala

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

مِن

(were) before them

min

قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ

(were) before them

qablihim

فَهَلْ

Then is (there)

fahal

عَلَى

on

ʿalā

ٱلرُّسُلِ

the messengers

l-rusuli

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ

the conveyance

l-balāghu

ٱلْمُبِينُ

clear

l-mubīnu

٣٥

And those who associate others with Allāh say, "If Allāh had willed, we would not have worshipped anything other than Him, neither we nor our fathers, nor would we have forbidden anything through other than Him." Thus did those do before them. So is there upon the messengers except [the duty of] clear notification?

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

بَعَثْنَا

We sent

baʿathnā

فِى

into

كُلِّ

every

kulli

أُمَّةٍۢ

nation

ummatin

رَّسُولًا

a Messenger

rasūlan

أَنِ

that

ani

ٱعْبُدُوا۟

Worship

uʿ'budū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟

and avoid

wa-ij'tanibū

ٱلطَّـٰغُوتَ ۖ

the false deities

l-ṭāghūta

فَمِنْهُم

Then among them

famin'hum

مَّنْ

(were some) whom

man

هَدَى

Allah guided

hadā

ٱللَّهُ

Allah guided

l-lahu

وَمِنْهُم

and among them

wamin'hum

مَّنْ

(were) some

man

حَقَّتْ

was justified

ḥaqqat

عَلَيْهِ

on them

ʿalayhi

ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةُ ۚ

the straying

l-ḍalālatu

فَسِيرُوا۟

So travel

fasīrū

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

فَٱنظُرُوا۟

and see

fa-unẓurū

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عَـٰقِبَةُ

the end

ʿāqibatu

ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

(of) the deniers

l-mukadhibīna

٣٦

And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allāh and avoid ṭāghūt."1 And among them were those whom Allāh guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed [i.e., travel] through the earth and observe how was the end of the deniers.

— Saheeh International

إِن

If

in

تَحْرِصْ

you desire

taḥriṣ

عَلَىٰ

[for]

ʿalā

هُدَىٰهُمْ

their guidance

hudāhum

فَإِنَّ

then indeed

fa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَا

(will) not

يَهْدِى

guide

yahdī

مَن

whom

man

يُضِلُّ ۖ

He lets go astray

yuḍillu

وَمَا

and not (are)

wamā

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مِّن

any

min

نَّـٰصِرِينَ

helpers

nāṣirīna

٣٧

[Even] if you should strive for their guidance, [O Muḥammad], indeed, Allāh does not guide those He sends astray,1 and they will have no helpers.

— Saheeh International

وَأَقْسَمُوا۟

And they swear

wa-aqsamū

بِٱللَّهِ

by Allah

bil-lahi

جَهْدَ

strongest

jahda

أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ ۙ

(of) their oaths

aymānihim

لَا

Allah will not resurrect

يَبْعَثُ

Allah will not resurrect

yabʿathu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah will not resurrect

l-lahu

مَن

(one) who

man

يَمُوتُ ۚ

dies

yamūtu

بَلَىٰ

Nay

balā

وَعْدًا

(it is) a promise

waʿdan

عَلَيْهِ

upon Him

ʿalayhi

حَقًّۭا

(in) truth

ḥaqqan

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

أَكْثَرَ

most

akthara

ٱلنَّاسِ

(of) the mankind

l-nāsi

لَا

(do) not

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

٣٨

And they swear by Allāh their strongest oaths [that] Allāh will not resurrect one who dies. But yes - [it is] a true promise [binding] upon Him, but most of the people do not know.

— Saheeh International

لِيُبَيِّنَ

That He will make clear

liyubayyina

لَهُمُ

to them

lahumu

ٱلَّذِى

that

alladhī

يَخْتَلِفُونَ

they differ

yakhtalifūna

فِيهِ

wherein

fīhi

وَلِيَعْلَمَ

and that may know

waliyaʿlama

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوٓا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

أَنَّهُمْ

that they

annahum

كَانُوا۟

were

kānū

كَـٰذِبِينَ

liars

kādhibīna

٣٩

[It is] so He will make clear to them [the truth of] that wherein they differ and so those who have disbelieved may know that they were liars.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

قَوْلُنَا

Our Word

qawlunā

لِشَىْءٍ

to a thing

lishayin

إِذَآ

when

idhā

أَرَدْنَـٰهُ

We intend it

aradnāhu

أَن

(is) that

an

نَّقُولَ

We say

naqūla

لَهُۥ

to it

lahu

كُن

Be

kun

فَيَكُونُ

and it is

fayakūnu

٤٠

Indeed, Our word to a thing when We intend it is but that We say to it, "Be," and it is.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

هَاجَرُوا۟

emigrated

hājarū

فِى

in (the way)

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

مِنۢ

after

min

بَعْدِ

after

baʿdi

مَا

[what]

ظُلِمُوا۟

they were wronged

ẓulimū

لَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُمْ

surely We will give them position

lanubawwi-annahum

فِى

in

ٱلدُّنْيَا

the world

l-dun'yā

حَسَنَةًۭ ۖ

good

ḥasanatan

وَلَأَجْرُ

but surely the reward

wala-ajru

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

(of) the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

أَكْبَرُ ۚ

(is) greater

akbaru

لَوْ

if

law

كَانُوا۟

they

kānū

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

٤١

And those who emigrated for [the cause of] Allāh after they had been wronged - We will surely settle them in this world in a good place; but the reward of the Hereafter is greater, if only they could know.

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

صَبَرُوا۟

(are) patient

ṣabarū

وَعَلَىٰ

and on

waʿalā

رَبِّهِمْ

their Lord

rabbihim

يَتَوَكَّلُونَ

they put their trust

yatawakkalūna

٤٢

[They are] those who endured patiently and upon their Lord relied.

— Saheeh International

وَمَآ

And not

wamā

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

مِن

before you

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

إِلَّا

except

illā

رِجَالًۭا

men

rijālan

نُّوحِىٓ

We revealed

nūḥī

إِلَيْهِمْ ۚ

to them

ilayhim

فَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟

so ask

fasalū

أَهْلَ

(the) people

ahla

ٱلذِّكْرِ

(of) the Reminder

l-dhik'ri

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you

kuntum

لَا

(do) not

تَعْلَمُونَ

know

taʿlamūna

٤٣

And We sent not before you except men to whom We revealed [Our message]. So ask the people of the message [i.e., former scriptures] if you do not know.

— Saheeh International

بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ

With the clear proofs

bil-bayināti

وَٱلزُّبُرِ ۗ

and the Books

wal-zuburi

وَأَنزَلْنَآ

And We sent down

wa-anzalnā

إِلَيْكَ

to you

ilayka

ٱلذِّكْرَ

the Remembrance

l-dhik'ra

لِتُبَيِّنَ

that you may make clear

litubayyina

لِلنَّاسِ

to the mankind

lilnnāsi

مَا

what

نُزِّلَ

has been sent down

nuzzila

إِلَيْهِمْ

to them

ilayhim

وَلَعَلَّهُمْ

and that they may

walaʿallahum

يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

reflect

yatafakkarūna

٤٤

[We sent them] with clear proofs and written ordinances. And We revealed to you the message [i.e., the Qur’ān] that you may make clear to the people what was sent down to them and that they might give thought.

— Saheeh International

أَفَأَمِنَ

Do then feel secure

afa-amina

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

مَكَرُوا۟

plotted

makarū

ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ

the evil deeds

l-sayiāti

أَن

that

an

يَخْسِفَ

Allah will cave

yakhsifa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah will cave

l-lahu

بِهِمُ

with them

bihimu

ٱلْأَرْضَ

the earth

l-arḍa

أَوْ

or

aw

يَأْتِيَهُمُ

will come to them

yatiyahumu

ٱلْعَذَابُ

the punishment

l-ʿadhābu

مِنْ

from

min

حَيْثُ

where

ḥaythu

لَا

not

يَشْعُرُونَ

they perceive

yashʿurūna

٤٥

Then, do those who have planned evil deeds feel secure that Allāh will not cause the earth to swallow them or that the punishment will not come upon them from where they do not perceive?

— Saheeh International

أَوْ

Or

aw

يَأْخُذَهُمْ

that He may seize them

yakhudhahum

فِى

in

تَقَلُّبِهِمْ

their going to and fro

taqallubihim

فَمَا

then not

famā

هُم

they

hum

بِمُعْجِزِينَ

will be able to escape

bimuʿ'jizīna

٤٦

Or that He would not seize them during their [usual] activity, and they could not cause failure [i.e., escape from Him]?

— Saheeh International

أَوْ

Or

aw

يَأْخُذَهُمْ

that He may seize them

yakhudhahum

عَلَىٰ

with

ʿalā

تَخَوُّفٍۢ

a gradual wasting

takhawwufin

فَإِنَّ

But indeed

fa-inna

رَبَّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbakum

لَرَءُوفٌۭ

(is) surely Full of Kindness

laraūfun

رَّحِيمٌ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

٤٧

Or that He would not seize them gradually [in a state of dread]?1 But indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful.2

— Saheeh International

أَوَلَمْ

Have not

awalam

يَرَوْا۟

they seen

yaraw

إِلَىٰ

[towards]

ilā

مَا

what

خَلَقَ

Allah has created

khalaqa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah has created

l-lahu

مِن

from

min

شَىْءٍۢ

a thing

shayin

يَتَفَيَّؤُا۟

Incline

yatafayya-u

ظِلَـٰلُهُۥ

their shadows

ẓilāluhu

عَنِ

to

ʿani

ٱلْيَمِينِ

the right

l-yamīni

وَٱلشَّمَآئِلِ

and to the left

wal-shamāili

سُجَّدًۭا

prostrating

sujjadan

لِّلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

دَٰخِرُونَ

(are) humble

dākhirūna

٤٨

Have they not considered what things Allāh has created? Their shadows incline to the right and to the left, prostrating to Allāh, while they [i.e., those creations] are humble.

— Saheeh International

وَلِلَّهِ

And to Allah

walillahi

يَسْجُدُ

prostrate

yasjudu

مَا

whatever

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَمَا

and whatever

wamā

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

مِن

of

min

دَآبَّةٍۢ

moving creatures

dābbatin

وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ

and the Angels

wal-malāikatu

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

لَا

(are) not

يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ

arrogant

yastakbirūna

٤٩

And to Allāh prostrates whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth of creatures, and the angels [as well], and they are not arrogant.

— Saheeh International

يَخَافُونَ

They fear

yakhāfūna

رَبَّهُم

their Lord

rabbahum

مِّن

above them

min

فَوْقِهِمْ

above them

fawqihim

وَيَفْعَلُونَ

and they do

wayafʿalūna

مَا

what

يُؤْمَرُونَ ۩

they are commanded

yu'marūna

٥٠

They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَقَالَ

And Allah has said

waqāla

ٱللَّهُ

And Allah has said

l-lahu

لَا

(Do) not

تَتَّخِذُوٓا۟

take

tattakhidhū

إِلَـٰهَيْنِ

[two] gods

ilāhayni

ٱثْنَيْنِ ۖ

two

ith'nayni

إِنَّمَا

only

innamā

هُوَ

He

huwa

إِلَـٰهٌۭ

(is) God

ilāhun

وَٰحِدٌۭ ۖ

One

wāḥidun

فَإِيَّـٰىَ

so Me Alone

fa-iyyāya

فَٱرْهَبُونِ

you fear [Me]

fa-ir'habūni

٥١

And Allāh has said, "Do not take for yourselves two1 deities. He [i.e., Allāh] is but one God, so fear only Me."

— Saheeh International

وَلَهُۥ

And to Him (belongs)

walahu

مَا

whatever

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَلَهُ

and to Him

walahu

ٱلدِّينُ

(is due) the worship

l-dīnu

وَاصِبًا ۚ

constantly

wāṣiban

أَفَغَيْرَ

Then is it other (than)

afaghayra

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

تَتَّقُونَ

you fear

tattaqūna

٥٢

And to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and to Him is [due] worship constantly. Then is it other than Allāh that you fear?

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And whatever

wamā

بِكُم

you have

bikum

مِّن

of

min

نِّعْمَةٍۢ

favor

niʿ'matin

فَمِنَ

(is) from

famina

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

Allah

l-lahi

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

إِذَا

when

idhā

مَسَّكُمُ

touches you

massakumu

ٱلضُّرُّ

the adversity

l-ḍuru

فَإِلَيْهِ

then to Him

fa-ilayhi

تَجْـَٔرُونَ

you cry for help

tajarūna

٥٣

And whatever you have of favor - it is from Allāh. Then when adversity touches you, to Him you cry for help.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

إِذَا

when

idhā

كَشَفَ

He removes

kashafa

ٱلضُّرَّ

the adversity

l-ḍura

عَنكُمْ

from you

ʿankum

إِذَا

behold

idhā

فَرِيقٌۭ

A group

farīqun

مِّنكُم

of you

minkum

بِرَبِّهِمْ

with their Lord

birabbihim

يُشْرِكُونَ

associate others

yush'rikūna

٥٤

Then when He removes the adversity from you, at once a party of you associates others with their Lord

— Saheeh International

لِيَكْفُرُوا۟

So as to deny

liyakfurū

بِمَآ

that which

bimā

ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ ۚ

We have given them

ātaynāhum

فَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ ۖ

Then enjoy yourselves

fatamattaʿū

فَسَوْفَ

soon

fasawfa

تَعْلَمُونَ

you will know

taʿlamūna

٥٥

So they will deny what We have given them. Then enjoy yourselves, for you are going to know.

— Saheeh International

وَيَجْعَلُونَ

And they assign

wayajʿalūna

لِمَا

to what

limā

لَا

not

يَعْلَمُونَ

they know

yaʿlamūna

نَصِيبًۭا

a portion

naṣīban

مِّمَّا

of what

mimmā

رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ ۗ

We have provided them

razaqnāhum

تَٱللَّهِ

By Allah

tal-lahi

لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ

surely you will be asked

latus'alunna

عَمَّا

about what

ʿammā

كُنتُمْ

you used (to)

kuntum

تَفْتَرُونَ

invent

taftarūna

٥٦

And they assign to what they do not know1 [i.e., false deities] a portion of that which We have provided them. By Allāh, you will surely be questioned about what you used to invent.

— Saheeh International

وَيَجْعَلُونَ

And they assign

wayajʿalūna

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

ٱلْبَنَـٰتِ

daughters

l-banāti

سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ ۙ

Glory be to Him

sub'ḥānahu

وَلَهُم

And for them

walahum

مَّا

(is) what

يَشْتَهُونَ

they desire

yashtahūna

٥٧

And they attribute to Allāh daughters1 - exalted is He - and for them is what they desire [i.e., sons].

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

بُشِّرَ

is given good news

bushira

أَحَدُهُم

(to) one of them

aḥaduhum

بِٱلْأُنثَىٰ

of a female

bil-unthā

ظَلَّ

turns

ẓalla

وَجْهُهُۥ

his face

wajhuhu

مُسْوَدًّۭا

dark

mus'waddan

وَهُوَ

and he

wahuwa

كَظِيمٌۭ

suppresses grief

kaẓīmun

٥٨

And when one of them is informed of [the birth of] a female, his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief.

— Saheeh International

يَتَوَٰرَىٰ

He hides himself

yatawārā

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْقَوْمِ

the people

l-qawmi

مِن

(because) of

min

سُوٓءِ

the evil

sūi

مَا

of what

بُشِّرَ

he has been given good news

bushira

بِهِۦٓ ۚ

about

bihi

أَيُمْسِكُهُۥ

Should he keep it

ayum'sikuhu

عَلَىٰ

in

ʿalā

هُونٍ

humiliation

hūnin

أَمْ

or

am

يَدُسُّهُۥ

bury it

yadussuhu

فِى

in

ٱلتُّرَابِ ۗ

the dust

l-turābi

أَلَا

Unquestionably

alā

سَآءَ

evil

sāa

مَا

(is) what

يَحْكُمُونَ

they decide

yaḥkumūna

٥٩

He hides himself from the people because of the ill of which he has been informed. Should he keep it in humiliation or bury it in the ground? Unquestionably, evil is what they decide.

— Saheeh International

لِلَّذِينَ

For those who

lilladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

in the Hereafter

bil-ākhirati

مَثَلُ

(is) a similitude

mathalu

ٱلسَّوْءِ ۖ

(of) the evil

l-sawi

وَلِلَّهِ

and for Allah

walillahi

ٱلْمَثَلُ

(is) the similitude

l-mathalu

ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ ۚ

the Highest

l-aʿlā

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلْعَزِيزُ

(is) the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzu

ٱلْحَكِيمُ

All-Wise

l-ḥakīmu

٦٠

For those who do not believe in the Hereafter is the description [i.e., an attribute] of evil;1 and for Allāh is the highest attribute. And He is Exalted in Might, the Wise.

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

يُؤَاخِذُ

Allah were to seize

yuākhidhu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah were to seize

l-lahu

ٱلنَّاسَ

the mankind

l-nāsa

بِظُلْمِهِم

for their wrongdoing

biẓul'mihim

مَّا

not

تَرَكَ

He (would) have left

taraka

عَلَيْهَا

upon it

ʿalayhā

مِن

any

min

دَآبَّةٍۢ

moving creature

dābbatin

وَلَـٰكِن

but

walākin

يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ

He defers them

yu-akhiruhum

إِلَىٰٓ

for

ilā

أَجَلٍۢ

a term

ajalin

مُّسَمًّۭى ۖ

appointed

musamman

فَإِذَا

Then when

fa-idhā

جَآءَ

comes

jāa

أَجَلُهُمْ

their terms

ajaluhum

لَا

not

يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ

they (will) remain behind

yastakhirūna

سَاعَةًۭ ۖ

an hour

sāʿatan

وَلَا

and not

walā

يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ

they can advance (it)

yastaqdimūna

٦١

And if Allāh were to impose blame on the people for their wrongdoing, He would not have left upon it [i.e., the earth] any creature, but He defers them for a specified term. And when their term has come, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede [it].

— Saheeh International

وَيَجْعَلُونَ

And they assign

wayajʿalūna

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

مَا

what

يَكْرَهُونَ

they dislike

yakrahūna

وَتَصِفُ

and assert

wataṣifu

أَلْسِنَتُهُمُ

their tongues

alsinatuhumu

ٱلْكَذِبَ

the lie

l-kadhiba

أَنَّ

that

anna

لَهُمُ

for them

lahumu

ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۖ

(is) the best

l-ḥus'nā

لَا

No

جَرَمَ

doubt

jarama

أَنَّ

that

anna

لَهُمُ

for them

lahumu

ٱلنَّارَ

(is) the Fire

l-nāra

وَأَنَّهُم

and that they

wa-annahum

مُّفْرَطُونَ

(will) be abandoned

muf'raṭūna

٦٢

And they attribute to Allāh that which they dislike [i.e., daughters], and their tongues assert the lie that they will have the best [from Him]. Assuredly, they will have the Fire, and they will be [therein] neglected.1

— Saheeh International

تَٱللَّهِ

By Allah

tal-lahi

لَقَدْ

certainly

laqad

أَرْسَلْنَآ

We have sent

arsalnā

إِلَىٰٓ

to

ilā

أُمَمٍۢ

nations

umamin

مِّن

before you

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

فَزَيَّنَ

but made fair-seeming

fazayyana

لَهُمُ

to them

lahumu

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ

the Shaitaan

l-shayṭānu

أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ

their deeds

aʿmālahum

فَهُوَ

So he

fahuwa

وَلِيُّهُمُ

(is) their ally

waliyyuhumu

ٱلْيَوْمَ

today

l-yawma

وَلَهُمْ

and for them

walahum

عَذَابٌ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

أَلِيمٌۭ

painful

alīmun

٦٣

By Allāh, We did certainly send [messengers] to nations before you, but Satan made their deeds attractive to them. And he is their [i.e., the disbelievers] ally today [as well], and they will have a painful punishment.

— Saheeh International

وَمَآ

And not

wamā

أَنزَلْنَا

We revealed

anzalnā

عَلَيْكَ

to you

ʿalayka

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

إِلَّا

except

illā

لِتُبَيِّنَ

that you make clear

litubayyina

لَهُمُ

to them

lahumu

ٱلَّذِى

that which

alladhī

ٱخْتَلَفُوا۟

they differed

ikh'talafū

فِيهِ ۙ

in it

fīhi

وَهُدًۭى

and (as) a guidance

wahudan

وَرَحْمَةًۭ

and mercy

waraḥmatan

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يُؤْمِنُونَ

who believe

yu'minūna

٦٤

And We have not revealed to you the Book, [O Muḥammad], except for you to make clear to them that wherein they have differed and as guidance and mercy for a people who believe.

— Saheeh International

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

أَنزَلَ

has sent down

anzala

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

مَآءًۭ

water

māan

فَأَحْيَا

then gives life

fa-aḥyā

بِهِ

by it

bihi

ٱلْأَرْضَ

(to) the earth

l-arḍa

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

مَوْتِهَآ ۚ

its death

mawtihā

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَةًۭ

(is) surely a Sign

laāyatan

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَسْمَعُونَ

who listen

yasmaʿūna

٦٥

And Allāh has sent down rain from the sky and given life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who listen.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

لَكُمْ

for you

lakum

فِى

in

ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ

the cattle

l-anʿāmi

لَعِبْرَةًۭ ۖ

(is) a lesson

laʿib'ratan

نُّسْقِيكُم

We give you to drink

nus'qīkum

مِّمَّا

from what

mimmā

فِى

(is) in

بُطُونِهِۦ

their bellies

buṭūnihi

مِنۢ

from

min

بَيْنِ

between

bayni

فَرْثٍۢ

bowels

farthin

وَدَمٍۢ

and blood

wadamin

لَّبَنًا

milk

labanan

خَالِصًۭا

pure

khāliṣan

سَآئِغًۭا

palatable

sāighan

لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ

to the drinkers

lilshāribīna

٦٦

And indeed, for you in grazing livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from what is in their bellies - between excretion and blood - pure milk, palatable to drinkers.

— Saheeh International

وَمِن

And from

wamin

ثَمَرَٰتِ

fruits

thamarāti

ٱلنَّخِيلِ

the date-palm

l-nakhīli

وَٱلْأَعْنَـٰبِ

and the grapes

wal-aʿnābi

تَتَّخِذُونَ

you take

tattakhidhūna

مِنْهُ

from it

min'hu

سَكَرًۭا

intoxicant

sakaran

وَرِزْقًا

and a provision

wariz'qan

حَسَنًا ۗ

good

ḥasanan

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَةًۭ

(is) surely a Sign

laāyatan

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَعْقِلُونَ

who use reason

yaʿqilūna

٦٧

And from the fruits of the palm trees and grapevines you take intoxicant and good provision.1 Indeed in that is a sign for a people who reason.

— Saheeh International

وَأَوْحَىٰ

And inspired

wa-awḥā

رَبُّكَ

your Lord

rabbuka

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلنَّحْلِ

the bee

l-naḥli

أَنِ

[that]

ani

ٱتَّخِذِى

Take

ittakhidhī

مِنَ

among

mina

ٱلْجِبَالِ

the mountains

l-jibāli

بُيُوتًۭا

houses

buyūtan

وَمِنَ

and among

wamina

ٱلشَّجَرِ

the trees

l-shajari

وَمِمَّا

and in what

wamimmā

يَعْرِشُونَ

they construct

yaʿrishūna

٦٨

And your Lord inspired to the bee, "Take for yourself among the mountains, houses [i.e., hives], and among the trees and [in] that which they construct.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

كُلِى

eat

kulī

مِن

from

min

كُلِّ

all

kulli

ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ

the fruits

l-thamarāti

فَٱسْلُكِى

and follow

fa-us'lukī

سُبُلَ

(the) ways

subula

رَبِّكِ

(of) your Lord

rabbiki

ذُلُلًۭا ۚ

made smooth

dhululan

يَخْرُجُ

Comes forth

yakhruju

مِنۢ

from

min

بُطُونِهَا

their bellies

buṭūnihā

شَرَابٌۭ

a drink

sharābun

مُّخْتَلِفٌ

(of) varying

mukh'talifun

أَلْوَٰنُهُۥ

colors

alwānuhu

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

شِفَآءٌۭ

(is) a healing

shifāon

لِّلنَّاسِ ۗ

for the mankind

lilnnāsi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَةًۭ

(is) surely a Sign

laāyatan

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

who reflect

yatafakkarūna

٦٩

Then eat from all the fruits1 and follow the ways of your Lord laid down [for you]." There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.

— Saheeh International

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

خَلَقَكُمْ

created you

khalaqakum

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يَتَوَفَّىٰكُمْ ۚ

will cause you to die

yatawaffākum

وَمِنكُم

And among you

waminkum

مَّن

(is one) who

man

يُرَدُّ

is sent back

yuraddu

إِلَىٰٓ

to

ilā

أَرْذَلِ

the worst

ardhali

ٱلْعُمُرِ

(of) the age

l-ʿumuri

لِكَىْ

so that

likay

لَا

not

يَعْلَمَ

he will know

yaʿlama

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

عِلْمٍۢ

knowledge

ʿil'min

شَيْـًٔا ۚ

a thing

shayan

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَلِيمٌۭ

(is) All-Knowing

ʿalīmun

قَدِيرٌۭ

All-Powerful

qadīrun

٧٠

And Allāh created you; then He will take you in death. And among you is he who is reversed to the most decrepit [old] age so that he will not know, after [having had] knowledge, a thing. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing and Competent.

— Saheeh International

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

فَضَّلَ

has favored

faḍḍala

بَعْضَكُمْ

some of you

baʿḍakum

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

بَعْضٍۢ

others

baʿḍin

فِى

in

ٱلرِّزْقِ ۚ

[the] provision

l-riz'qi

فَمَا

But not

famā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

فُضِّلُوا۟

were favored

fuḍḍilū

بِرَآدِّى

would hand over

birāddī

رِزْقِهِمْ

their provision

riz'qihim

عَلَىٰ

to

ʿalā

مَا

whom

مَلَكَتْ

possess

malakat

أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ

their right hands

aymānuhum

فَهُمْ

so (that) they

fahum

فِيهِ

(are) in it

fīhi

سَوَآءٌ ۚ

equal

sawāon

أَفَبِنِعْمَةِ

Then is it the Favor

afabiniʿ'mati

ٱللَّهِ

of Allah

l-lahi

يَجْحَدُونَ

they reject

yajḥadūna

٧١

And Allāh has favored some of you over others in provision. But those who were favored [i.e., given more] would not hand over their provision to those whom their right hands possess [i.e., slaves] so they would be equal to them therein.1 Then is it the favor of Allāh they reject?

— Saheeh International

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

جَعَلَ

(has) made

jaʿala

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّنْ

from

min

أَنفُسِكُمْ

yourselves

anfusikum

أَزْوَٰجًۭا

spouses

azwājan

وَجَعَلَ

and has made

wajaʿala

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّنْ

from

min

أَزْوَٰجِكُم

your spouses

azwājikum

بَنِينَ

sons

banīna

وَحَفَدَةًۭ

and grandsons

waḥafadatan

وَرَزَقَكُم

and has provided for you

warazaqakum

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ ۚ

the good things

l-ṭayibāti

أَفَبِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ

Then in falsehood do

afabil-bāṭili

يُؤْمِنُونَ

they believe

yu'minūna

وَبِنِعْمَتِ

and the Favor

wabiniʿ'mati

ٱللَّهِ

of Allah

l-lahi

هُمْ

they

hum

يَكْفُرُونَ

disbelieve

yakfurūna

٧٢

And Allāh has made for you from yourselves mates and has made for you from your mates sons and grandchildren and has provided for you from the good things. Then in falsehood do they believe and in the favor of Allāh they disbelieve?

— Saheeh International

وَيَعْبُدُونَ

And they worship

wayaʿbudūna

مِن

other than

min

دُونِ

other than

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مَا

which

لَا

not

يَمْلِكُ

possesses

yamliku

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

رِزْقًۭا

any provision

riz'qan

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

شَيْـًۭٔا

[anything]

shayan

وَلَا

and not

walā

يَسْتَطِيعُونَ

they are able

yastaṭīʿūna

٧٣

And they worship besides Allāh that which does not possess for them [the power of] provision from the heavens and the earth at all, and [in fact], they are unable.

— Saheeh International

فَلَا

So (do) not

falā

تَضْرِبُوا۟

put forth

taḍribū

لِلَّهِ

for Allah

lillahi

ٱلْأَمْثَالَ ۚ

the similitude

l-amthāla

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَعْلَمُ

knows

yaʿlamu

وَأَنتُمْ

and you

wa-antum

لَا

(do) not

تَعْلَمُونَ

know

taʿlamūna

٧٤

So do not assert similarities to Allāh.1 Indeed, Allāh knows and you do not know.

— Saheeh International

۞ ضَرَبَ

Allah sets forth

ḍaraba

ٱللَّهُ

Allah sets forth

l-lahu

مَثَلًا

the example

mathalan

عَبْدًۭا

(of) a slave

ʿabdan

مَّمْلُوكًۭا

(who is) owned

mamlūkan

لَّا

not

يَقْدِرُ

he has power

yaqdiru

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

شَىْءٍۢ

anything

shayin

وَمَن

and (one) whom

waman

رَّزَقْنَـٰهُ

We provided him

razaqnāhu

مِنَّا

from Us

minnā

رِزْقًا

a provision

riz'qan

حَسَنًۭا

good

ḥasanan

فَهُوَ

so he

fahuwa

يُنفِقُ

spends

yunfiqu

مِنْهُ

from it

min'hu

سِرًّۭا

secretly

sirran

وَجَهْرًا ۖ

and publicly

wajahran

هَلْ

Can

hal

يَسْتَوُۥنَ ۚ

they be equal

yastawūna

ٱلْحَمْدُ

All praise

l-ḥamdu

لِلَّهِ ۚ

(is) for Allah

lillahi

بَلْ

Nay

bal

أَكْثَرُهُمْ

but most of them

aktharuhum

لَا

(do) not

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

٧٥

Allāh presents an example: a slave [who is] owned and unable to do a thing and he to whom We have provided from Us good provision, so he spends from it secretly and publicly. Can they be equal? Praise to Allāh! But most of them do not know.

— Saheeh International

وَضَرَبَ

And Allah sets forth

waḍaraba

ٱللَّهُ

And Allah sets forth

l-lahu

مَثَلًۭا

an example

mathalan

رَّجُلَيْنِ

(of) two men

rajulayni

أَحَدُهُمَآ

one of them

aḥaduhumā

أَبْكَمُ

(is) dumb

abkamu

لَا

not

يَقْدِرُ

he has power

yaqdiru

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

شَىْءٍۢ

anything

shayin

وَهُوَ

while he

wahuwa

كَلٌّ

(is) a burden

kallun

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

مَوْلَىٰهُ

his master

mawlāhu

أَيْنَمَا

Wherever

aynamā

يُوَجِّههُّ

he directs him

yuwajjihhu

لَا

not

يَأْتِ

he comes

yati

بِخَيْرٍ ۖ

with any good

bikhayrin

هَلْ

Is

hal

يَسْتَوِى

equal

yastawī

هُوَ

he

huwa

وَمَن

and (the one) who

waman

يَأْمُرُ

commands

yamuru

بِٱلْعَدْلِ ۙ

[of] justice

bil-ʿadli

وَهُوَ

and he

wahuwa

عَلَىٰ

(is) on

ʿalā

صِرَٰطٍۢ

a path

ṣirāṭin

مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ

straight

mus'taqīmin

٧٦

And Allāh presents an example of two men, one of them dumb and unable to do a thing, while he is a burden to his guardian. Wherever he directs him, he brings no good. Is he equal to one who commands justice, while he is on a straight path?

— Saheeh International

وَلِلَّهِ

And to Allah (belongs)

walillahi

غَيْبُ

(the) unseen

ghaybu

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَمَآ

And not

wamā

أَمْرُ

(is the) matter

amru

ٱلسَّاعَةِ

(of) the Hour

l-sāʿati

إِلَّا

but

illā

كَلَمْحِ

as a twinkling

kalamḥi

ٱلْبَصَرِ

(of) the eye

l-baṣari

أَوْ

or

aw

هُوَ

it

huwa

أَقْرَبُ ۚ

(is) nearer

aqrabu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

كُلِّ

every

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

قَدِيرٌۭ

(is) All-Powerful

qadīrun

٧٧

And to Allāh belongs the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth. And the command for the Hour is not but as a glance of the eye or even nearer. Indeed, Allāh is over all things competent.

— Saheeh International

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

أَخْرَجَكُم

brought you forth

akhrajakum

مِّنۢ

from

min

بُطُونِ

the wombs

buṭūni

أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ

(of) your mothers

ummahātikum

لَا

not

تَعْلَمُونَ

knowing

taʿlamūna

شَيْـًۭٔا

anything

shayan

وَجَعَلَ

and made

wajaʿala

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلسَّمْعَ

the hearing

l-samʿa

وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ

and the sight

wal-abṣāra

وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۙ

and the hearts

wal-afidata

لَعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تَشْكُرُونَ

give thanks

tashkurūna

٧٨

And Allāh has extracted you from the wombs of your mothers not knowing a thing, and He made for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect] that perhaps you would be grateful.

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

يَرَوْا۟

they see

yaraw

إِلَى

towards

ilā

ٱلطَّيْرِ

the birds

l-ṭayri

مُسَخَّرَٰتٍۢ

controlled

musakharātin

فِى

in

جَوِّ

the midst

jawwi

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

(of) the sky

l-samāi

مَا

None

يُمْسِكُهُنَّ

holds them up

yum'sikuhunna

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱللَّهُ ۗ

Allah

l-lahu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

(are) Signs

laāyātin

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يُؤْمِنُونَ

who believe

yu'minūna

٧٩

Do they not see the birds controlled in the atmosphere of the sky? None holds them up except Allāh. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.

— Saheeh International

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

جَعَلَ

(has) made

jaʿala

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّنۢ

[from]

min

بُيُوتِكُمْ

your homes

buyūtikum

سَكَنًۭا

a resting place

sakanan

وَجَعَلَ

and made

wajaʿala

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّن

from

min

جُلُودِ

the hides

julūdi

ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ

(of) the cattle

l-anʿāmi

بُيُوتًۭا

tents

buyūtan

تَسْتَخِفُّونَهَا

which you find light

tastakhiffūnahā

يَوْمَ

(on) the day

yawma

ظَعْنِكُمْ

(of) your travel

ẓaʿnikum

وَيَوْمَ

and the day

wayawma

إِقَامَتِكُمْ ۙ

(of) your encampment

iqāmatikum

وَمِنْ

and from

wamin

أَصْوَافِهَا

their wool

aṣwāfihā

وَأَوْبَارِهَا

and their fur

wa-awbārihā

وَأَشْعَارِهَآ

and their hair

wa-ashʿārihā

أَثَـٰثًۭا

(is) furnishing

athāthan

وَمَتَـٰعًا

and a provision

wamatāʿan

إِلَىٰ

for

ilā

حِينٍۢ

a time

ḥīnin

٨٠

And Allāh has made for you from your homes a place of rest and made for you from the hides of the animals tents which you find light on your day of travel and your day of encampment; and from their wool, fur and hair is furnishing and enjoyment [i.e., provision] for a time.

— Saheeh International

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

جَعَلَ

(has) made

jaʿala

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّمَّا

from what

mimmā

خَلَقَ

He created

khalaqa

ظِلَـٰلًۭا

shades

ẓilālan

وَجَعَلَ

and (has) made

wajaʿala

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلْجِبَالِ

the mountains

l-jibāli

أَكْنَـٰنًۭا

shelters

aknānan

وَجَعَلَ

and (has) made

wajaʿala

لَكُمْ

for you

lakum

سَرَٰبِيلَ

garments

sarābīla

تَقِيكُمُ

to protect you

taqīkumu

ٱلْحَرَّ

(from) the heat

l-ḥara

وَسَرَٰبِيلَ

and garments

wasarābīla

تَقِيكُم

to protect you

taqīkum

بَأْسَكُمْ ۚ

from your (mutual) violence

basakum

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

يُتِمُّ

He completes

yutimmu

نِعْمَتَهُۥ

His Favor

niʿ'matahu

عَلَيْكُمْ

upon you

ʿalaykum

لَعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تُسْلِمُونَ

submit

tus'limūna

٨١

And Allāh has made for you, from that which He has created, shadows [i.e., shade] and has made for you from the mountains, shelters and has made for you garments which protect you from the heat and garments [i.e., coats of mail] which protect you from your [enemy in] battle. Thus does He complete His favor upon you that you might submit [to Him].

— Saheeh International

فَإِن

Then, if

fa-in

تَوَلَّوْا۟

they turn away

tawallaw

فَإِنَّمَا

then only

fa-innamā

عَلَيْكَ

upon you

ʿalayka

ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ

(is) the conveyance

l-balāghu

ٱلْمُبِينُ

the clear

l-mubīnu

٨٢

But if they turn away, [O Muḥammad] - then only upon you is [responsibility for] clear notification.

— Saheeh International

يَعْرِفُونَ

They recognize

yaʿrifūna

نِعْمَتَ

(the) Favor

niʿ'mata

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يُنكِرُونَهَا

they deny it

yunkirūnahā

وَأَكْثَرُهُمُ

And most of them

wa-aktharuhumu

ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ

(are) the disbelievers

l-kāfirūna

٨٣

They recognize the favor of Allāh; then they deny it. And most of them are disbelievers.

— Saheeh International

وَيَوْمَ

And the Day

wayawma

نَبْعَثُ

We will resurrect

nabʿathu

مِن

from

min

كُلِّ

every

kulli

أُمَّةٍۢ

nation

ummatin

شَهِيدًۭا

a witness

shahīdan

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

لَا

not

يُؤْذَنُ

will be permitted

yu'dhanu

لِلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

وَلَا

and not

walā

هُمْ

they

hum

يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ

will be asked to make amends

yus'taʿtabūna

٨٤

And [mention] the Day when We will resurrect from every nation a witness [i.e., their prophet]. Then it will not be permitted to the disbelievers [to apologize or make excuses], nor will they be asked to appease [Allāh].

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

رَءَا

(will) see

raā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ظَلَمُوا۟

wronged

ẓalamū

ٱلْعَذَابَ

the punishment

l-ʿadhāba

فَلَا

then not

falā

يُخَفَّفُ

it will be lightened

yukhaffafu

عَنْهُمْ

for them

ʿanhum

وَلَا

and not

walā

هُمْ

they

hum

يُنظَرُونَ

will be given respite

yunẓarūna

٨٥

And when those who wronged see the punishment, it will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

رَءَا

(will) see

raā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

أَشْرَكُوا۟

associated partners with Allah

ashrakū

شُرَكَآءَهُمْ

their partners

shurakāahum

قَالُوا۟

They will say

qālū

رَبَّنَا

Our Lord

rabbanā

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

these

hāulāi

شُرَكَآؤُنَا

(are) our partners

shurakāunā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those whom

alladhīna

كُنَّا

we used to

kunnā

نَدْعُوا۟

invoke

nadʿū

مِن

besides You

min

دُونِكَ ۖ

besides You

dūnika

فَأَلْقَوْا۟

But they (will) throw back

fa-alqaw

إِلَيْهِمُ

at them

ilayhimu

ٱلْقَوْلَ

(their) word

l-qawla

إِنَّكُمْ

Indeed, you

innakum

لَكَـٰذِبُونَ

(are) surely liars

lakādhibūna

٨٦

And when those who associated others with Allāh see their "partners," they will say, "Our Lord, these are our partners [to You] whom we used to invoke [in worship] besides You." But they will throw at them the statement, "Indeed, you are liars."

— Saheeh International

وَأَلْقَوْا۟

And they (will) offer

wa-alqaw

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

يَوْمَئِذٍ

(on) that Day

yawma-idhin

ٱلسَّلَمَ ۖ

the submission

l-salama

وَضَلَّ

and (is) lost

waḍalla

عَنْهُم

from them

ʿanhum

مَّا

what

كَانُوا۟

they used (to)

kānū

يَفْتَرُونَ

invent

yaftarūna

٨٧

And they will impart to Allāh that Day [their] submission, and lost from them is what they used to invent.

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

وَصَدُّوا۟

and hindered

waṣaddū

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

زِدْنَـٰهُمْ

We will increase them

zid'nāhum

عَذَابًۭا

(in) punishment

ʿadhāban

فَوْقَ

over

fawqa

ٱلْعَذَابِ

punishment

l-ʿadhābi

بِمَا

because

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used (to)

kānū

يُفْسِدُونَ

spread corruption

yuf'sidūna

٨٨

Those who disbelieved and averted [others] from the way of Allāh - We will increase them in punishment over [their] punishment for what corruption they were causing.

— Saheeh International

وَيَوْمَ

And the Day

wayawma

نَبْعَثُ

We will resurrect

nabʿathu

فِى

among

كُلِّ

every

kulli

أُمَّةٍۢ

nation

ummatin

شَهِيدًا

a witness

shahīdan

عَلَيْهِم

over them

ʿalayhim

مِّنْ

from

min

أَنفُسِهِمْ ۖ

themselves

anfusihim

وَجِئْنَا

And We (will) bring

waji'nā

بِكَ

you

bika

شَهِيدًا

(as) a witness

shahīdan

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ۚ

these

hāulāi

وَنَزَّلْنَا

And We sent down

wanazzalnā

عَلَيْكَ

to you

ʿalayka

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

تِبْيَـٰنًۭا

(as) a clarification

tib'yānan

لِّكُلِّ

of every

likulli

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

وَهُدًۭى

and a guidance

wahudan

وَرَحْمَةًۭ

and mercy

waraḥmatan

وَبُشْرَىٰ

and glad tidings

wabush'rā

لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ

for the Muslims

lil'mus'limīna

٨٩

And [mention] the Day when We will resurrect among every nation a witness over them from themselves [i.e., their prophet]. And We will bring you, [O Muḥammad], as a witness over these [i.e., your nation]. And We have sent down to you the Book as clarification for all things and as guidance and mercy and good tidings for the Muslims.1

— Saheeh International

۞ إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَأْمُرُ

commands

yamuru

بِٱلْعَدْلِ

justice

bil-ʿadli

وَٱلْإِحْسَـٰنِ

and the good

wal-iḥ'sāni

وَإِيتَآئِ

and giving

waītāi

ذِى

(to) relatives

dhī

ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ

(to) relatives

l-qur'bā

وَيَنْهَىٰ

and forbids

wayanhā

عَنِ

[from]

ʿani

ٱلْفَحْشَآءِ

the immorality

l-faḥshāi

وَٱلْمُنكَرِ

and the bad

wal-munkari

وَٱلْبَغْىِ ۚ

and the oppression

wal-baghyi

يَعِظُكُمْ

He admonishes you

yaʿiẓukum

لَعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تَذَكَّرُونَ

take heed

tadhakkarūna

٩٠

Indeed, Allāh orders justice and good conduct and giving [help] to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.

— Saheeh International

وَأَوْفُوا۟

And fulfil

wa-awfū

بِعَهْدِ

the covenant

biʿahdi

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

إِذَا

when

idhā

عَـٰهَدتُّمْ

you have taken a covenant

ʿāhadttum

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تَنقُضُوا۟

break

tanquḍū

ٱلْأَيْمَـٰنَ

oaths

l-aymāna

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

تَوْكِيدِهَا

their confirmation

tawkīdihā

وَقَدْ

while verily

waqad

جَعَلْتُمُ

you have made

jaʿaltumu

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَلَيْكُمْ

over you

ʿalaykum

كَفِيلًا ۚ

a surety

kafīlan

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَعْلَمُ

knows

yaʿlamu

مَا

what

تَفْعَلُونَ

you do

tafʿalūna

٩١

And fulfill the covenant of Allāh when you have taken it, [O believers], and do not break oaths after their confirmation while you have made Allāh, over you, a security [i.e., witness]. Indeed, Allāh knows what you do.

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَكُونُوا۟

be

takūnū

كَٱلَّتِى

like her who

ka-allatī

نَقَضَتْ

untwists

naqaḍat

غَزْلَهَا

her spun yarn

ghazlahā

مِنۢ

after

min

بَعْدِ

after

baʿdi

قُوَّةٍ

strength

quwwatin

أَنكَـٰثًۭا

(into) untwisted strands

ankāthan

تَتَّخِذُونَ

you take

tattakhidhūna

أَيْمَـٰنَكُمْ

your oaths

aymānakum

دَخَلًۢا

(as) a deception

dakhalan

بَيْنَكُمْ

between you

baynakum

أَن

because

an

تَكُونَ

is

takūna

أُمَّةٌ

a community

ummatun

هِىَ

[it]

hiya

أَرْبَىٰ

more numerous

arbā

مِنْ

than

min

أُمَّةٍ ۚ

(another) community

ummatin

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

يَبْلُوكُمُ

Allah tests you

yablūkumu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah tests you

l-lahu

بِهِۦ ۚ

by it

bihi

وَلَيُبَيِّنَنَّ

And He will make clear

walayubayyinanna

لَكُمْ

to you

lakum

يَوْمَ

(on) the Day

yawma

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

مَا

what

كُنتُمْ

you used (to)

kuntum

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

تَخْتَلِفُونَ

differ

takhtalifūna

٩٢

And do not be like she who untwisted her spun thread after it was strong [by] taking your oaths as [means of] deceit between you because one community is more plentiful [in number or wealth] than another community.1 Allāh only tries you thereby. And He will surely make clear to you on the Day of Resurrection that over which you used to differ.

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

شَآءَ

Allah (had) willed

shāa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah (had) willed

l-lahu

لَجَعَلَكُمْ

surely He (could) have made you

lajaʿalakum

أُمَّةًۭ

a nation

ummatan

وَٰحِدَةًۭ

one

wāḥidatan

وَلَـٰكِن

but

walākin

يُضِلُّ

He lets go astray

yuḍillu

مَن

whom

man

يَشَآءُ

He wills

yashāu

وَيَهْدِى

and guides

wayahdī

مَن

whom

man

يَشَآءُ ۚ

He wills

yashāu

وَلَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ

And surely you will be questioned

walatus'alunna

عَمَّا

about what

ʿammā

كُنتُمْ

you used (to)

kuntum

تَعْمَلُونَ

do

taʿmalūna

٩٣

And if Allāh had willed, He could have made you [of] one religion, but He sends astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills.1 And you will surely be questioned about what you used to do.

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَتَّخِذُوٓا۟

take

tattakhidhū

أَيْمَـٰنَكُمْ

your oaths

aymānakum

دَخَلًۢا

(as) a deception

dakhalan

بَيْنَكُمْ

between you

baynakum

فَتَزِلَّ

lest, should slip

fatazilla

قَدَمٌۢ

a foot

qadamun

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

ثُبُوتِهَا

it is firmly planted

thubūtihā

وَتَذُوقُوا۟

and you would taste

watadhūqū

ٱلسُّوٓءَ

the evil

l-sūa

بِمَا

for what

bimā

صَدَدتُّمْ

you hindered

ṣadadttum

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَلَكُمْ

and for you

walakum

عَذَابٌ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

عَظِيمٌۭ

great

ʿaẓīmun

٩٤

And do not take your oaths as [means of] deceit between you, lest a foot slip after it was [once] firm, and you would taste evil [in this world] for what [people] you diverted from the way of Allāh,1 and you would have [in the Hereafter] a great punishment.

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَشْتَرُوا۟

exchange

tashtarū

بِعَهْدِ

the covenant

biʿahdi

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

ثَمَنًۭا

(for) a price

thamanan

قَلِيلًا ۚ

little

qalīlan

إِنَّمَا

Indeed, what

innamā

عِندَ

(is) with

ʿinda

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

هُوَ

it

huwa

خَيْرٌۭ

(is) better

khayrun

لَّكُمْ

for you

lakum

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you were (to)

kuntum

تَعْلَمُونَ

know

taʿlamūna

٩٥

And do not exchange the covenant of Allāh for a small price. Indeed, what is with Allāh is best for you, if only you could know.

— Saheeh International

مَا

Whatever

عِندَكُمْ

(is) with you

ʿindakum

يَنفَدُ ۖ

will be exhausted

yanfadu

وَمَا

and whatever

wamā

عِندَ

(is) with

ʿinda

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

بَاقٍۢ ۗ

(will) be remaining

bāqin

وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّ

And surely We will pay

walanajziyanna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

صَبَرُوٓا۟

(are) patient

ṣabarū

أَجْرَهُم

their reward

ajrahum

بِأَحْسَنِ

to (the) best

bi-aḥsani

مَا

(of) what

كَانُوا۟

they used (to)

kānū

يَعْمَلُونَ

do

yaʿmalūna

٩٦

Whatever you have will end, but what Allāh has is lasting. And We will surely give those who were patient their reward according to the best of what they used to do.

— Saheeh International

مَنْ

Whoever

man

عَمِلَ

does

ʿamila

صَـٰلِحًۭا

righteous deeds

ṣāliḥan

مِّن

whether

min

ذَكَرٍ

male

dhakarin

أَوْ

or

aw

أُنثَىٰ

female

unthā

وَهُوَ

while he

wahuwa

مُؤْمِنٌۭ

(is) a believer

mu'minun

فَلَنُحْيِيَنَّهُۥ

then surely We will give him life

falanuḥ'yiyannahu

حَيَوٰةًۭ

a life

ḥayatan

طَيِّبَةًۭ ۖ

good

ṭayyibatan

وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ

and We will pay them

walanajziyannahum

أَجْرَهُم

their reward

ajrahum

بِأَحْسَنِ

to (the) best

bi-aḥsani

مَا

of what

كَانُوا۟

they used (to)

kānū

يَعْمَلُونَ

do

yaʿmalūna

٩٧

Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used to do.

— Saheeh International

فَإِذَا

So when

fa-idhā

قَرَأْتَ

you recite

qarata

ٱلْقُرْءَانَ

the Quran

l-qur'āna

فَٱسْتَعِذْ

seek refuge

fa-is'taʿidh

بِٱللَّهِ

in Allah

bil-lahi

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ

the Shaitaan

l-shayṭāni

ٱلرَّجِيمِ

the accursed

l-rajīmi

٩٨

So when you recite the Qur’ān, [first] seek refuge in Allāh from Satan, the expelled [from His mercy].

— Saheeh International

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed he

innahu

لَيْسَ

not

laysa

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

سُلْطَـٰنٌ

(is) any authority

sul'ṭānun

عَلَى

on

ʿalā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَلَىٰ

and upon

waʿalā

رَبِّهِمْ

their Lord

rabbihim

يَتَوَكَّلُونَ

they put their trust

yatawakkalūna

٩٩

Indeed, there is for him no authority over those who have believed and rely upon their Lord.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

سُلْطَـٰنُهُۥ

his authority

sul'ṭānuhu

عَلَى

(is) over

ʿalā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَتَوَلَّوْنَهُۥ

take him as an ally

yatawallawnahu

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

هُم

[they]

hum

بِهِۦ

with Him

bihi

مُشْرِكُونَ

associate partners

mush'rikūna

١٠٠

His authority is only over those who take him as an ally and those who through him associate others with Allāh.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

بَدَّلْنَآ

We substitute

baddalnā

ءَايَةًۭ

a Verse

āyatan

مَّكَانَ

(in) place

makāna

ءَايَةٍۢ ۙ

(of) a Verse

āyatin

وَٱللَّهُ

and Allah

wal-lahu

أَعْلَمُ

(is) most knowing

aʿlamu

بِمَا

of what

bimā

يُنَزِّلُ

He sends down

yunazzilu

قَالُوٓا۟

they say

qālū

إِنَّمَآ

Only

innamā

أَنتَ

you

anta

مُفْتَرٍۭ ۚ

(are) an inventor

muf'tarin

بَلْ

Nay

bal

أَكْثَرُهُمْ

most of them

aktharuhum

لَا

(do) not

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

١٠١

And when We substitute a verse in place of a verse - and Allāh is most knowing of what He sends down - they say, "You, [O Muḥammad], are but an inventor [of lies]." But most of them do not know.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

نَزَّلَهُۥ

Has brought it down

nazzalahu

رُوحُ

the Holy Spirit

rūḥu

ٱلْقُدُسِ

the Holy Spirit

l-qudusi

مِن

from

min

رَّبِّكَ

your Lord

rabbika

بِٱلْحَقِّ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

لِيُثَبِّتَ

to make firm

liyuthabbita

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَهُدًۭى

and (as) a guidance

wahudan

وَبُشْرَىٰ

and glad tidings

wabush'rā

لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ

to the Muslims

lil'mus'limīna

١٠٢

Say, [O Muḥammad], "The Pure Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] has brought it down from your Lord in truth to make firm those who believe and as guidance and good tidings to the Muslims."

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

نَعْلَمُ

We know

naʿlamu

أَنَّهُمْ

that they

annahum

يَقُولُونَ

say

yaqūlūna

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

يُعَلِّمُهُۥ

teaches him

yuʿallimuhu

بَشَرٌۭ ۗ

a human being

basharun

لِّسَانُ

(The) tongue

lisānu

ٱلَّذِى

(of) the one

alladhī

يُلْحِدُونَ

they refer

yul'ḥidūna

إِلَيْهِ

to him

ilayhi

أَعْجَمِىٌّۭ

(is) foreign

aʿjamiyyun

وَهَـٰذَا

while this

wahādhā

لِسَانٌ

(is) a language

lisānun

عَرَبِىٌّۭ

Arabic

ʿarabiyyun

مُّبِينٌ

clear

mubīnun

١٠٣

And We certainly know that they say, "It is only a human being who teaches him [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)]." The tongue of the one they refer to is foreign,1 and this [recitation, i.e., Qur’ān] is [in] a clear Arabic language.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

بِـَٔايَـٰتِ

in the Verses

biāyāti

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

لَا

not

يَهْدِيهِمُ

Allah will guide them

yahdīhimu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah will guide them

l-lahu

وَلَهُمْ

and for them

walahum

عَذَابٌ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

أَلِيمٌ

painful

alīmun

١٠٤

Indeed, those who do not believe in the verses of Allāh - Allāh will not guide them, and for them is a painful punishment.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

يَفْتَرِى

they invent

yaftarī

ٱلْكَذِبَ

the falsehood

l-kadhiba

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

بِـَٔايَـٰتِ

in the Verses

biāyāti

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

and those

wa-ulāika

هُمُ

they

humu

ٱلْكَـٰذِبُونَ

(are) the liars

l-kādhibūna

١٠٥

They only invent falsehood who do not believe in the verses of Allāh, and it is those who are the liars.

— Saheeh International

مَن

Whoever

man

كَفَرَ

disbelieves

kafara

بِٱللَّهِ

in Allah

bil-lahi

مِنۢ

after

min

بَعْدِ

after

baʿdi

إِيمَـٰنِهِۦٓ

his belief

īmānihi

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَنْ

(one) who

man

أُكْرِهَ

is forced

uk'riha

وَقَلْبُهُۥ

while his heart

waqalbuhu

مُطْمَئِنٌّۢ

(is) content

muṭ'ma-innun

بِٱلْإِيمَـٰنِ

with the faith

bil-īmāni

وَلَـٰكِن

But

walākin

مَّن

(one) who

man

شَرَحَ

opens

sharaḥa

بِٱلْكُفْرِ

to disbelief

bil-kuf'ri

صَدْرًۭا

(his) breast

ṣadran

فَعَلَيْهِمْ

then upon them

faʿalayhim

غَضَبٌۭ

(is) a wrath

ghaḍabun

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

وَلَهُمْ

and for them

walahum

عَذَابٌ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

عَظِيمٌۭ

great

ʿaẓīmun

١٠٦

Whoever disbelieves in [i.e., denies] Allāh after his belief...1 except for one who is forced [to renounce his religion] while his heart is secure in faith. But those who [willingly] open their breasts to disbelief, upon them is wrath from Allāh, and for them is a great punishment;

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That (is)

dhālika

بِأَنَّهُمُ

because

bi-annahumu

ٱسْتَحَبُّوا۟

they preferred

is'taḥabbū

ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ

the life

l-ḥayata

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

عَلَى

over

ʿalā

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

وَأَنَّ

and that

wa-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَا

(does) not

يَهْدِى

guide

yahdī

ٱلْقَوْمَ

the people

l-qawma

ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

the disbelievers

l-kāfirīna

١٠٧

That is because they preferred the worldly life over the Hereafter and that Allāh does not guide the disbelieving people.

— Saheeh International

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

ٱلَّذِينَ

(are) the ones

alladhīna

طَبَعَ

Allah has set a seal

ṭabaʿa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah has set a seal

l-lahu

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

قُلُوبِهِمْ

their hearts

qulūbihim

وَسَمْعِهِمْ

and their hearing

wasamʿihim

وَأَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ ۖ

and their sight

wa-abṣārihim

وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

And those

wa-ulāika

هُمُ

they are

humu

ٱلْغَـٰفِلُونَ

the heedless

l-ghāfilūna

١٠٨

Those are the ones over whose hearts and hearing and vision Allāh has sealed, and it is those who are the heedless.

— Saheeh International

لَا

No

جَرَمَ

doubt

jarama

أَنَّهُمْ

that they

annahum

فِى

in

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

هُمُ

[they]

humu

ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ

(are) the losers

l-khāsirūna

١٠٩

Assuredly, it is they, in the Hereafter, who will be the losers.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

إِنَّ

indeed

inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

لِلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

هَاجَرُوا۟

emigrated

hājarū

مِنۢ

after

min

بَعْدِ

after

baʿdi

مَا

what

فُتِنُوا۟

they had been put to trials

futinū

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

جَـٰهَدُوا۟

strove hard

jāhadū

وَصَبَرُوٓا۟

and were patient

waṣabarū

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

مِنۢ

after it

min

بَعْدِهَا

after it

baʿdihā

لَغَفُورٌۭ

surely is Oft-Forgiving

laghafūrun

رَّحِيمٌۭ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

١١٠

Then, indeed your Lord, to those who emigrated after they had been compelled [to say words of disbelief] and thereafter fought [for the cause of Allāh] and were patient - indeed, your Lord, after that, is Forgiving and Merciful

— Saheeh International

۞ يَوْمَ

(On) the Day

yawma

تَأْتِى

(when) will come

tatī

كُلُّ

every

kullu

نَفْسٍۢ

soul

nafsin

تُجَـٰدِلُ

pleading

tujādilu

عَن

for

ʿan

نَّفْسِهَا

itself

nafsihā

وَتُوَفَّىٰ

and will be paid in full

watuwaffā

كُلُّ

every

kullu

نَفْسٍۢ

soul

nafsin

مَّا

what

عَمِلَتْ

it did

ʿamilat

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

لَا

(will) not

يُظْلَمُونَ

be wronged

yuẓ'lamūna

١١١

On the Day when every soul will come disputing [i.e., pleading] for itself, and every soul will be fully compensated for what it did, and they will not be wronged [i.e., treated unjustly].

— Saheeh International

وَضَرَبَ

And Allah sets forth

waḍaraba

ٱللَّهُ

And Allah sets forth

l-lahu

مَثَلًۭا

a similitude

mathalan

قَرْيَةًۭ

(of) a town

qaryatan

كَانَتْ

(that) was

kānat

ءَامِنَةًۭ

secure

āminatan

مُّطْمَئِنَّةًۭ

and content

muṭ'ma-innatan

يَأْتِيهَا

coming to it

yatīhā

رِزْقُهَا

its provision

riz'quhā

رَغَدًۭا

(in) abundance

raghadan

مِّن

from

min

كُلِّ

every

kulli

مَكَانٍۢ

place

makānin

فَكَفَرَتْ

but it denied

fakafarat

بِأَنْعُمِ

(the) Favors of Allah

bi-anʿumi

ٱللَّهِ

(the) Favors of Allah

l-lahi

فَأَذَٰقَهَا

so Allah made it taste

fa-adhāqahā

ٱللَّهُ

so Allah made it taste

l-lahu

لِبَاسَ

(the) garb

libāsa

ٱلْجُوعِ

(of) the hunger

l-jūʿi

وَٱلْخَوْفِ

and the fear

wal-khawfi

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used (to)

kānū

يَصْنَعُونَ

do

yaṣnaʿūna

١١٢

And Allāh presents an example: a city [i.e., Makkah] which was safe and secure, its provision coming to it in abundance from every location, but it denied the favors of Allāh. So Allāh made it taste the envelopment of hunger and fear for what they had been doing.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

جَآءَهُمْ

came to them

jāahum

رَسُولٌۭ

a Messenger

rasūlun

مِّنْهُمْ

from among them

min'hum

فَكَذَّبُوهُ

but they denied him

fakadhabūhu

فَأَخَذَهُمُ

so seized them

fa-akhadhahumu

ٱلْعَذَابُ

the punishment

l-ʿadhābu

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

ظَـٰلِمُونَ

(were) wrongdoers

ẓālimūna

١١٣

And there had certainly come to them a Messenger from among themselves, but they denied him; so punishment overtook them while they were wrongdoers.

— Saheeh International

فَكُلُوا۟

So eat

fakulū

مِمَّا

of what

mimmā

رَزَقَكُمُ

Allah has provided you

razaqakumu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah has provided you

l-lahu

حَلَـٰلًۭا

lawful

ḥalālan

طَيِّبًۭا

and good

ṭayyiban

وَٱشْكُرُوا۟

And be grateful

wa-ush'kurū

نِعْمَتَ

(for the) Favor

niʿ'mata

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

[you]

kuntum

إِيَّاهُ

Him Alone

iyyāhu

تَعْبُدُونَ

you worship

taʿbudūna

١١٤

Then eat of what Allāh has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And be grateful for the favor of Allāh, if it is [indeed] Him that you worship.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

حَرَّمَ

He has forbidden

ḥarrama

عَلَيْكُمُ

to you

ʿalaykumu

ٱلْمَيْتَةَ

the dead animal

l-maytata

وَٱلدَّمَ

and the blood

wal-dama

وَلَحْمَ

and the flesh

walaḥma

ٱلْخِنزِيرِ

(of) the swine

l-khinzīri

وَمَآ

and what

wamā

أُهِلَّ

has been dedicated

uhilla

لِغَيْرِ

to other (than)

lighayri

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

بِهِۦ ۖ

[with it]

bihi

فَمَنِ

But (if) one

famani

ٱضْطُرَّ

(is) forced

uḍ'ṭurra

غَيْرَ

without (being)

ghayra

بَاغٍۢ

disobedient

bāghin

وَلَا

and not

walā

عَادٍۢ

a transgressor

ʿādin

فَإِنَّ

then indeed

fa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

غَفُورٌۭ

(is) Oft-Forgiving

ghafūrun

رَّحِيمٌۭ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

١١٥

He has only forbidden to you dead animals,1 blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allāh. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit] - then indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَقُولُوا۟

say

taqūlū

لِمَا

for that which

limā

تَصِفُ

assert

taṣifu

أَلْسِنَتُكُمُ

your tongues

alsinatukumu

ٱلْكَذِبَ

the lie

l-kadhiba

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

حَلَـٰلٌۭ

(is) lawful

ḥalālun

وَهَـٰذَا

and this

wahādhā

حَرَامٌۭ

(is) forbidden

ḥarāmun

لِّتَفْتَرُوا۟

so that you invent

litaftarū

عَلَى

about

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

ٱلْكَذِبَ ۚ

the lie

l-kadhiba

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَفْتَرُونَ

invent

yaftarūna

عَلَى

about

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

ٱلْكَذِبَ

the lie

l-kadhiba

لَا

they will not succeed

يُفْلِحُونَ

they will not succeed

yuf'liḥūna

١١٦

And do not say about what your tongues assert of untruth, "This is lawful and this is unlawful," to invent falsehood about Allāh. Indeed, those who invent falsehood about Allāh will not succeed.

— Saheeh International

مَتَـٰعٌۭ

An enjoyment

matāʿun

قَلِيلٌۭ

little

qalīlun

وَلَهُمْ

and for them

walahum

عَذَابٌ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

أَلِيمٌۭ

painful

alīmun

١١٧

[It is but] a brief enjoyment, and they will have a painful punishment.

— Saheeh International

وَعَلَى

And to

waʿalā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

هَادُوا۟

are Jews

hādū

حَرَّمْنَا

We have forbidden

ḥarramnā

مَا

what

قَصَصْنَا

We related

qaṣaṣnā

عَلَيْكَ

to you

ʿalayka

مِن

before

min

قَبْلُ ۖ

before

qablu

وَمَا

And not

wamā

ظَلَمْنَـٰهُمْ

We wronged them

ẓalamnāhum

وَلَـٰكِن

but

walākin

كَانُوٓا۟

they used (to)

kānū

أَنفُسَهُمْ

themselves

anfusahum

يَظْلِمُونَ

wrong

yaẓlimūna

١١٨

And to those who are Jews We have prohibited that which We related to you before.1 And We did not wrong them [thereby], but they were wronging themselves.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

إِنَّ

indeed

inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

لِلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

عَمِلُوا۟

did

ʿamilū

ٱلسُّوٓءَ

evil

l-sūa

بِجَهَـٰلَةٍۢ

in ignorance

bijahālatin

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

تَابُوا۟

repented

tābū

مِنۢ

after

min

بَعْدِ

after

baʿdi

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

وَأَصْلَحُوٓا۟

and corrected themselves

wa-aṣlaḥū

إِنَّ

indeed

inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

مِنۢ

after that

min

بَعْدِهَا

after that

baʿdihā

لَغَفُورٌۭ

(is) surely Oft-Forgiving

laghafūrun

رَّحِيمٌ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

١١٩

Then, indeed your Lord, to those who have done wrong out of ignorance and then repent after that and correct themselves - indeed, your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

كَانَ

was

kāna

أُمَّةًۭ

a nation

ummatan

قَانِتًۭا

obedient

qānitan

لِّلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

حَنِيفًۭا

upright

ḥanīfan

وَلَمْ

and not

walam

يَكُ

he was

yaku

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

the polytheists

l-mush'rikīna

١٢٠

Indeed, Abraham was a [comprehensive] leader,1 devoutly obedient to Allāh, inclining toward truth, and he was not of those who associate others with Allāh.

— Saheeh International

شَاكِرًۭا

Thankful

shākiran

لِّأَنْعُمِهِ ۚ

for His favors

li-anʿumihi

ٱجْتَبَىٰهُ

He chose him

ij'tabāhu

وَهَدَىٰهُ

and guided him

wahadāhu

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

صِرَٰطٍۢ

the way

ṣirāṭin

مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ

straight

mus'taqīmin

١٢١

[He was] grateful for His favors. He [i.e., Allāh] chose him and guided him to a straight path.

— Saheeh International

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ

And We gave him

waātaynāhu

فِى

in

ٱلدُّنْيَا

the world

l-dun'yā

حَسَنَةًۭ ۖ

good

ḥasanatan

وَإِنَّهُۥ

and indeed, he

wa-innahu

فِى

in

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

لَمِنَ

(he) will surely (be) among

lamina

ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

the righteous

l-ṣāliḥīna

١٢٢

And We gave him good in this world, and indeed, in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

أَوْحَيْنَآ

We revealed

awḥaynā

إِلَيْكَ

to you

ilayka

أَنِ

that

ani

ٱتَّبِعْ

You follow

ittabiʿ

مِلَّةَ

(the) religion

millata

إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

(of) Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

حَنِيفًۭا ۖ

upright

ḥanīfan

وَمَا

and not

wamā

كَانَ

he was

kāna

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

the polytheists

l-mush'rikīna

١٢٣

Then We revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], to follow the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth; and he was not of those who associate with Allāh.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

جُعِلَ

was appointed

juʿila

ٱلسَّبْتُ

the Sabbath

l-sabtu

عَلَى

for

ʿalā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ٱخْتَلَفُوا۟

differed

ikh'talafū

فِيهِ ۚ

in it

fīhi

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

لَيَحْكُمُ

will surely judge

layaḥkumu

بَيْنَهُمْ

between them

baynahum

يَوْمَ

(on) the Day

yawma

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

فِيمَا

in what

fīmā

كَانُوا۟

they used (to)

kānū

فِيهِ

[in it]

fīhi

يَخْتَلِفُونَ

differ

yakhtalifūna

١٢٤

The sabbath was only appointed for those who differed over it. And indeed, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ.

— Saheeh International

ٱدْعُ

Call

ud'ʿu

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

رَبِّكَ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

بِٱلْحِكْمَةِ

with the wisdom

bil-ḥik'mati

وَٱلْمَوْعِظَةِ

and the instruction

wal-mawʿiẓati

ٱلْحَسَنَةِ ۖ

the good

l-ḥasanati

وَجَـٰدِلْهُم

and discuss with them

wajādil'hum

بِٱلَّتِى

in that

bi-allatī

هِىَ

which

hiya

أَحْسَنُ ۚ

(is) best

aḥsanu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

هُوَ

He

huwa

أَعْلَمُ

(is) most knowing

aʿlamu

بِمَن

of who

biman

ضَلَّ

has strayed

ḍalla

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِهِۦ ۖ

His way

sabīlihi

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

أَعْلَمُ

(is) most knowing

aʿlamu

بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ

of the guided ones

bil-muh'tadīna

١٢٥

Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنْ

And if

wa-in

عَاقَبْتُمْ

you retaliate

ʿāqabtum

فَعَاقِبُوا۟

then retaliate

faʿāqibū

بِمِثْلِ

with the like

bimith'li

مَا

of what

عُوقِبْتُم

you were afflicted

ʿūqib'tum

بِهِۦ ۖ

with [it]

bihi

وَلَئِن

But if

wala-in

صَبَرْتُمْ

you are patient

ṣabartum

لَهُوَ

surely (it) is

lahuwa

خَيْرٌۭ

better

khayrun

لِّلصَّـٰبِرِينَ

for those who are patient

lilṣṣābirīna

١٢٦

And if you punish [an enemy, O believers], punish with an equivalent of that with which you were harmed.1 But if you are patient - it is better for those who are patient.

— Saheeh International

وَٱصْبِرْ

And be patient

wa-iṣ'bir

وَمَا

and not

wamā

صَبْرُكَ

(is) your patience

ṣabruka

إِلَّا

but

illā

بِٱللَّهِ ۚ

from Allah

bil-lahi

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَحْزَنْ

grieve

taḥzan

عَلَيْهِمْ

over them

ʿalayhim

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تَكُ

be

taku

فِى

in

ضَيْقٍۢ

distress

ḍayqin

مِّمَّا

for what

mimmā

يَمْكُرُونَ

they plot

yamkurūna

١٢٧

And be patient, [O Muḥammad], and your patience is not but through Allāh. And do not grieve over them and do not be in distress over what they conspire.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

مَعَ

(is) with

maʿa

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ٱتَّقَوا۟

fear (Him)

ittaqaw

وَّٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

هُم

[they]

hum

مُّحْسِنُونَ

(are) good-doers

muḥ'sinūna

١٢٨

Indeed, Allāh is with those who fear Him and those who are doers of good.

— Saheeh International
