رُّبَمَا Perhaps rubamā will wish yawaddu those who alladhīna disbelieved kafarū if law they had been kānū Muslims mus'limīna
Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish1 that they had been Muslims.
ذَرْهُمْ Leave them dharhum (to) eat yakulū and enjoy wayatamattaʿū and diverted them wayul'hihimu the hope l-amalu then soon fasawfa they will come to know yaʿlamūna
Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know.
وَمَآ And not wamā We destroyed ahlaknā any min town qaryatin but illā (there was) for it walahā a decree kitābun known maʿlūmun
And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree.
مَّا Not mā (can) advance tasbiqu any min nation ummatin its term ajalahā and not wamā (can) delay it yastakhirūna
No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter.
وَقَالُوا۟ And they say waqālū O you yāayyuhā (to) whom alladhī has been sent down nuzzila [on him] ʿalayhi the Reminder l-dhik'ru indeed, you innaka (are) surely mad lamajnūnun
And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad.1
لَّوْ Why law not mā you bring to us tatīnā the Angels bil-malāikati if in you are kunta of mina the truthful l-ṣādiqīna
Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?"
مَا Not mā We send down nunazzilu the Angels l-malāikata except illā with the truth bil-ḥaqi and not wamā they would be kānū then idhan given respite munẓarīna
We do not send down the angels except with truth;1 and they [i.e., the disbelievers] would not then be reprieved.
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā We naḥnu have sent down nazzalnā the Reminder l-dhik'ra and indeed, We wa-innā of it lahu (are) surely Guardians laḥāfiẓūna
Indeed, it is We who sent down the message [i.e., the Qur’ān], and indeed, We will be its guardian.
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad We (had) sent arsalnā before you min before you qablika in fī the sects shiyaʿi (of) the former (people) l-awalīna
And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muḥammad], among the sects of the former peoples.
وَمَا And not wamā came to them yatīhim any min Messenger rasūlin but illā they did kānū at him bihi mock yastahziūna
And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him.
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika We let it enter naslukuhu in fī (the) hearts qulūbi (of) the criminals l-muj'rimīna
Thus do We insert it [i.e., denial] into the hearts of the criminals.
لَا Not lā they believe yu'minūna in it bihi and verily waqad have passed khalat the way(s) sunnatu (of) the former (people) l-awalīna
They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples.
وَلَوْ And (even) if walaw We opened fataḥnā to them ʿalayhim a gate bāban from mina the heaven l-samāi and they were to continue faẓallū therein fīhi (to) ascend yaʿrujūna
And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend,
لَقَالُوٓا۟ They would surely say laqālū Only innamā have been dazzled sukkirat our eyes abṣārunā Nay bal we naḥnu (are) a people qawmun bewitched masḥūrūna
They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic."
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad We have placed jaʿalnā in fī the heavens l-samāi constellations burūjan and We have beautified it wazayyannāhā for the observers lilnnāẓirīna

And We have made for you therein means of living and [for] those for whom you are not providers.1
وَإِن And not wa-in (is) any min thing shayin but illā with Us ʿindanā (are) its treasures khazāinuhu and not wamā We send it down nunazziluhu except illā in a measure biqadarin known maʿlūmin
And there is not a thing but that with Us are its depositories, and We do not send it down except according to a known [i.e., specified] measure.
وَأَرْسَلْنَا And We have sent wa-arsalnā the winds l-riyāḥa fertilizing lawāqiḥa and We sent down fa-anzalnā from mina the sky l-samāi water māan and We gave it to you to drink fa-asqaynākumūhu And not wamā you antum of it lahu (are) retainers bikhāzinīna
And We have sent the fertilizing winds1 and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.
وَإِنَّا And indeed, We wa-innā surely [We] lanaḥnu We give life nuḥ'yī and We cause death wanumītu and We wanaḥnu (are) the Inheritors l-wārithūna
And indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritor.1
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad We know ʿalim'nā the preceding ones l-mus'taqdimīna among you minkum and verily walaqad We know ʿalim'nā the later ones l-mus'takhirīna
And We have already known the preceding [generations] among you, and We have already known the later [ones to come].
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna your Lord rabbaka He huwa will gather them yaḥshuruhum Indeed, He innahu (is) All-Wise ḥakīmun All-Knowing ʿalīmun
And indeed, your Lord will gather them; indeed, He is Wise and Knowing.

And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud.
وَٱلْجَآنَّ And the jinn wal-jāna We created it khalaqnāhu before min before qablu from min fire nāri scorching l-samūmi
And the jinn We created before from scorching fire.

فَإِذَا So, when fa-idhā I have fashioned him sawwaytuhu and [I] breathed wanafakhtu into him fīhi of min My spirit rūḥī then fall down faqaʿū to him lahu prostrating sājidīna
And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul,1 then fall down to him in prostration."
فَسَجَدَ So prostrated fasajada the Angels l-malāikatu all of them kulluhum together ajmaʿūna
So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,
إِلَّآ Except illā Iblis ib'līsa He refused abā to an be yakūna with maʿa those who prostrated l-sājidīna

[Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them [i.e., mankind] on earth, and I will mislead them all
إِلَّا Except illā Your slaves ʿibādaka among them min'humu the ones who are sincere l-mukh'laṣīna
Except, among them, Your chosen servants."
قَالَ He said qāla This hādhā (is) the way ṣirāṭun to Me ʿalayya straight mus'taqīmun
[Allāh] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight.

Indeed, the righteous will be within gardens and springs,
ٱدْخُلُوهَا Enter it ud'khulūhā in peace bisalāmin secure āminīna
[Having been told], "Enter it in peace, safe [and secure]."

And We will remove whatever is in their breasts of resentment,1 [so they will be] brothers, on thrones facing each other.
