Ar-Ra`d

The Thunder

الرعد

الٓمٓر ۚ

Alif Laam Mim Ra

alif-lam-meem-ra

تِلْكَ

These

til'ka

ءَايَـٰتُ

(are) the Verses

āyātu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۗ

(of) the Book

l-kitābi

وَٱلَّذِىٓ

And that which

wa-alladhī

أُنزِلَ

has been revealed

unzila

إِلَيْكَ

to you

ilayka

مِن

from

min

رَّبِّكَ

your Lord

rabbika

ٱلْحَقُّ

(is) the truth

l-ḥaqu

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

أَكْثَرَ

most

akthara

ٱلنَّاسِ

(of) the mankind

l-nāsi

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

١

Alif, Lām, Meem, Rā.1 These are the verses of the Book; and what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth, but most of the people do not believe.

— Saheeh International

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

al-lahu

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

رَفَعَ

raised

rafaʿa

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

عَمَدٍۢ

pillars

ʿamadin

تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ

that you see

tarawnahā

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

ٱسْتَوَىٰ

He established

is'tawā

عَلَى

on

ʿalā

ٱلْعَرْشِ ۖ

the Throne

l-ʿarshi

وَسَخَّرَ

and subjected

wasakhara

ٱلشَّمْسَ

the sun

l-shamsa

وَٱلْقَمَرَ ۖ

and the moon

wal-qamara

كُلٌّۭ

each

kullun

يَجْرِى

running

yajrī

لِأَجَلٍۢ

for a term

li-ajalin

مُّسَمًّۭى ۚ

appointed

musamman

يُدَبِّرُ

He arranges

yudabbiru

ٱلْأَمْرَ

the matter

l-amra

يُفَصِّلُ

He details

yufaṣṣilu

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ

the Signs

l-āyāti

لَعَلَّكُم

so that you may

laʿallakum

بِلِقَآءِ

in the meeting

biliqāi

رَبِّكُمْ

(with) your Lord

rabbikum

تُوقِنُونَ

believe with certainty

tūqinūna

٢

It is Allāh who erected the heavens without pillars that you [can] see; then He established Himself above the Throne1 and made subject2 the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term. He arranges [each] matter; He details the signs that you may, of the meeting with your Lord, be certain.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

مَدَّ

spread

madda

ٱلْأَرْضَ

the earth

l-arḍa

وَجَعَلَ

and placed

wajaʿala

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

رَوَٰسِىَ

firm mountains

rawāsiya

وَأَنْهَـٰرًۭا ۖ

and rivers

wa-anhāran

وَمِن

and from

wamin

كُلِّ

all

kulli

ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ

(of) the fruits

l-thamarāti

جَعَلَ

He made

jaʿala

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

زَوْجَيْنِ

pairs

zawjayni

ٱثْنَيْنِ ۖ

two

ith'nayni

يُغْشِى

He covers

yugh'shī

ٱلَّيْلَ

the night

al-layla

ٱلنَّهَارَ ۚ

(with) the day

l-nahāra

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

surely (are) Signs

laāyātin

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

who ponder

yatafakkarūna

٣

And it is He who spread the earth and placed therein firmly set mountains and rivers; and from all of the fruits He made therein two mates; He causes the night to cover the day. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.

— Saheeh International

وَفِى

And in

wafī

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

قِطَعٌۭ

are tracks

qiṭaʿun

مُّتَجَـٰوِرَٰتٌۭ

neighboring

mutajāwirātun

وَجَنَّـٰتٌۭ

and gardens

wajannātun

مِّنْ

of

min

أَعْنَـٰبٍۢ

grapevines

aʿnābin

وَزَرْعٌۭ

and crops

wazarʿun

وَنَخِيلٌۭ

and date-palms

wanakhīlun

صِنْوَانٌۭ

trees (growing) from a single root

ṣin'wānun

وَغَيْرُ

and not

waghayru

صِنْوَانٍۢ

trees (growing) from a single root

ṣin'wānin

يُسْقَىٰ

watered

yus'qā

بِمَآءٍۢ

with water

bimāin

وَٰحِدٍۢ

one

wāḥidin

وَنُفَضِّلُ

but We cause to exceed

wanufaḍḍilu

بَعْضَهَا

some of them

baʿḍahā

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

بَعْضٍۢ

others

baʿḍin

فِى

in

ٱلْأُكُلِ ۚ

the fruit

l-ukuli

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

surely (are) Signs

laāyātin

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَعْقِلُونَ

who use reason

yaʿqilūna

٤

And within the land are neighboring plots and gardens of grapevines and crops and palm trees, [growing] several from a root or otherwise,1 watered with one water; but We make some of them exceed others in [quality of] fruit. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَإِن

And if

wa-in

تَعْجَبْ

you (are) astonished

taʿjab

فَعَجَبٌۭ

then astonishing

faʿajabun

قَوْلُهُمْ

(is) their saying

qawluhum

أَءِذَا

When

a-idhā

كُنَّا

we are

kunnā

تُرَٰبًا

dust

turāban

أَءِنَّا

will we

a-innā

لَفِى

(be) indeed, in

lafī

خَلْقٍۢ

a creation

khalqin

جَدِيدٍ ۗ

new

jadīdin

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

ٱلَّذِينَ

(are) the ones who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖ

in their Lord

birabbihim

وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

and those

wa-ulāika

ٱلْأَغْلَـٰلُ

the iron chains

l-aghlālu

فِىٓ

(will be) in

أَعْنَاقِهِمْ ۖ

their necks

aʿnāqihim

وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

those

wa-ulāika

أَصْحَـٰبُ

(are the) companions

aṣḥābu

ٱلنَّارِ ۖ

(of) the Fire

l-nāri

هُمْ

they

hum

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

خَـٰلِدُونَ

(will) abide forever

khālidūna

٥

And if you are astonished,1 [O Muḥammad] - then astonishing is their saying, "When we are dust, will we indeed be [brought] into a new creation?" Those are the ones who have disbelieved in their Lord, and those will have shackles2 upon their necks, and those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.

— Saheeh International

وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ

And they ask you to hasten

wayastaʿjilūnaka

بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ

the evil

bil-sayi-ati

قَبْلَ

before

qabla

ٱلْحَسَنَةِ

the good

l-ḥasanati

وَقَدْ

and verily

waqad

خَلَتْ

has occurred

khalat

مِن

from

min

قَبْلِهِمُ

before them

qablihimu

ٱلْمَثُلَـٰتُ ۗ

[the] similar punishments

l-mathulātu

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

لَذُو

(is) full

ladhū

مَغْفِرَةٍۢ

(of) forgiveness

maghfiratin

لِّلنَّاسِ

for mankind

lilnnāsi

عَلَىٰ

for

ʿalā

ظُلْمِهِمْ ۖ

their wrongdoing

ẓul'mihim

وَإِنَّ

and indeed

wa-inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

لَشَدِيدُ

(is) severe

lashadīdu

ٱلْعِقَابِ

(in) the penalty

l-ʿiqābi

٦

They impatiently urge you to bring about evil before good,1 while there has already occurred before them similar punishments [to what they demand]. And indeed, your Lord is the possessor of forgiveness for the people despite their wrongdoing, and indeed, your Lord is severe in penalty.

— Saheeh International

وَيَقُولُ

And say

wayaqūlu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

لَوْلَآ

Why not

lawlā

أُنزِلَ

has been sent down

unzila

عَلَيْهِ

to him

ʿalayhi

ءَايَةٌۭ

a sign

āyatun

مِّن

from

min

رَّبِّهِۦٓ ۗ

his Lord

rabbihi

إِنَّمَآ

Only

innamā

أَنتَ

you

anta

مُنذِرٌۭ ۖ

(are) a warner

mundhirun

وَلِكُلِّ

and for every

walikulli

قَوْمٍ

people

qawmin

هَادٍ

(is) a guide

hādin

٧

And those who disbelieved say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" You are only a warner, and for every people is a guide.

— Saheeh International

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

al-lahu

يَعْلَمُ

knows

yaʿlamu

مَا

what

تَحْمِلُ

carries

taḥmilu

كُلُّ

every

kullu

أُنثَىٰ

female

unthā

وَمَا

and what

wamā

تَغِيضُ

fall short

taghīḍu

ٱلْأَرْحَامُ

the womb

l-arḥāmu

وَمَا

and what

wamā

تَزْدَادُ ۖ

they exceed

tazdādu

وَكُلُّ

And every

wakullu

شَىْءٍ

thing

shayin

عِندَهُۥ

with Him

ʿindahu

بِمِقْدَارٍ

(is) in due proportion

bimiq'dārin

٨

Allāh knows what every female carries1 and what the wombs lose [prematurely] or exceed.2 And everything with Him is by due measure.

— Saheeh International

عَـٰلِمُ

Knower

ʿālimu

ٱلْغَيْبِ

(of) the unseen

l-ghaybi

وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ

and the witnessed

wal-shahādati

ٱلْكَبِيرُ

the Most Great

l-kabīru

ٱلْمُتَعَالِ

the Most High

l-mutaʿāli

٩

[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Grand, the Exalted.

— Saheeh International

سَوَآءٌۭ

(It is) same (to Him)

sawāon

مِّنكُم

[of you]

minkum

مَّنْ

(one) who

man

أَسَرَّ

conceals

asarra

ٱلْقَوْلَ

the speech

l-qawla

وَمَن

or (one) who

waman

جَهَرَ

publicizes

jahara

بِهِۦ

it

bihi

وَمَنْ

and (one) who

waman

هُوَ

[he]

huwa

مُسْتَخْفٍۭ

(is) hidden

mus'takhfin

بِٱلَّيْلِ

by night

bi-al-layli

وَسَارِبٌۢ

or goes freely

wasāribun

بِٱلنَّهَارِ

by day

bil-nahāri

١٠

It is the same [to Him] concerning you whether one conceals [his] speech or publicizes it and whether one is hidden by night or conspicuous [among others] by day.

— Saheeh International

لَهُۥ

For him

lahu

مُعَقِّبَـٰتٌۭ

(are) successive (Angels)

muʿaqqibātun

مِّنۢ

from

min

بَيْنِ

(before)

bayni

يَدَيْهِ

(him)

yadayhi

وَمِنْ

and from

wamin

خَلْفِهِۦ

and behind him

khalfihi

يَحْفَظُونَهُۥ

who guard him

yaḥfaẓūnahu

مِنْ

by

min

أَمْرِ

(the) command

amri

ٱللَّهِ ۗ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَا

(does) not

يُغَيِّرُ

change

yughayyiru

مَا

(the condition)

بِقَوْمٍ

of a people

biqawmin

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

يُغَيِّرُوا۟

they change

yughayyirū

مَا

what

بِأَنفُسِهِمْ ۗ

(is) in themselves

bi-anfusihim

وَإِذَآ

And when

wa-idhā

أَرَادَ

wills

arāda

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

بِقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

biqawmin

سُوٓءًۭا

misfortune

sūan

فَلَا

then (there is) no

falā

مَرَدَّ

turning away

maradda

لَهُۥ ۚ

of it

lahu

وَمَا

and not

wamā

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مِّن

from

min

دُونِهِۦ

besides Him

dūnihi

مِن

any

min

وَالٍ

protector

wālin

١١

For him [i.e., each one] are successive [angels]1 before and behind him who protect him by the decree of Allāh.2 Indeed, Allāh will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allāh intends for a people ill,3 there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any patron.

— Saheeh International

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

يُرِيكُمُ

shows you

yurīkumu

ٱلْبَرْقَ

the lightning

l-barqa

خَوْفًۭا

a fear

khawfan

وَطَمَعًۭا

and a hope

waṭamaʿan

وَيُنشِئُ

and brings up

wayunshi-u

ٱلسَّحَابَ

the clouds

l-saḥāba

ٱلثِّقَالَ

the heavy

l-thiqāla

١٢

It is He who shows you lightning, [causing] fear and aspiration, and generates the heavy clouds.

— Saheeh International

وَيُسَبِّحُ

And glorifies

wayusabbiḥu

ٱلرَّعْدُ

the thunder

l-raʿdu

بِحَمْدِهِۦ

with his praise

biḥamdihi

وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ

and the Angels

wal-malāikatu

مِنْ

for

min

خِيفَتِهِۦ

fear of Him

khīfatihi

وَيُرْسِلُ

And He sends

wayur'silu

ٱلصَّوَٰعِقَ

the thunderbolts

l-ṣawāʿiqa

فَيُصِيبُ

and strikes

fayuṣību

بِهَا

with it

bihā

مَن

whom

man

يَشَآءُ

He wills

yashāu

وَهُمْ

yet they

wahum

يُجَـٰدِلُونَ

dispute

yujādilūna

فِى

about

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

شَدِيدُ

(is) Mighty

shadīdu

ٱلْمِحَالِ

(in) Strength

l-miḥāli

١٣

And the thunder exalts [Allāh] with praise of Him - and the angels [as well] from fear of Him - and He sends thunderbolts and strikes therewith whom He wills while they dispute about Allāh; and He is severe in assault.

— Saheeh International

لَهُۥ

To Him

lahu

دَعْوَةُ

(is) supplication

daʿwatu

ٱلْحَقِّ ۖ

(of) the truth

l-ḥaqi

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those whom

wa-alladhīna

يَدْعُونَ

they invoke

yadʿūna

مِن

besides Him

min

دُونِهِۦ

besides Him

dūnihi

لَا

not

يَسْتَجِيبُونَ

they respond

yastajībūna

لَهُم

to them

lahum

بِشَىْءٍ

with a thing

bishayin

إِلَّا

except

illā

كَبَـٰسِطِ

like one who stretches

kabāsiṭi

كَفَّيْهِ

his hands

kaffayhi

إِلَى

towards

ilā

ٱلْمَآءِ

water

l-māi

لِيَبْلُغَ

to reach

liyablugha

فَاهُ

his mouth

fāhu

وَمَا

but not

wamā

هُوَ

it

huwa

بِبَـٰلِغِهِۦ ۚ

reaches it

bibālighihi

وَمَا

And not

wamā

دُعَآءُ

(is) the supplication

duʿāu

ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

(of) the disbelievers

l-kāfirīna

إِلَّا

but

illā

فِى

in

ضَلَـٰلٍۢ

error

ḍalālin

١٤

To Him [alone] is the supplication of truth. And those they call upon besides Him do not respond to them with a thing, except as one who stretches his hands toward water [from afar, calling it] to reach his mouth, but it will not reach it [thus].1 And the supplication of the disbelievers is not but in error [i.e., futility].

— Saheeh International

وَلِلَّهِ

And to Allah

walillahi

يَسْجُدُ

prostrates

yasjudu

مَن

whoever

man

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

طَوْعًۭا

willingly

ṭawʿan

وَكَرْهًۭا

or unwillingly

wakarhan

وَظِلَـٰلُهُم

and (so do) their shadows

waẓilāluhum

بِٱلْغُدُوِّ

in the mornings

bil-ghuduwi

وَٱلْـَٔاصَالِ ۩

and in the afternoons

wal-āṣāli

١٥

And to Allāh prostrates whoever is within the heavens and the earth, willingly or by compulsion, and their shadows [as well] in the mornings and the afternoons.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

مَن

Who

man

رَّبُّ

(is) the Lord

rabbu

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

قُلِ

Say

quli

ٱللَّهُ ۚ

Allah

l-lahu

قُلْ

Say

qul

أَفَٱتَّخَذْتُم

Have you then taken

afa-ittakhadhtum

مِّن

from

min

دُونِهِۦٓ

besides Him

dūnihi

أَوْلِيَآءَ

protectors

awliyāa

لَا

not

يَمْلِكُونَ

they have power

yamlikūna

لِأَنفُسِهِمْ

for themselves

li-anfusihim

نَفْعًۭا

(to) benefit

nafʿan

وَلَا

and not

walā

ضَرًّۭا ۚ

(to) harm

ḍarran

قُلْ

Say

qul

هَلْ

Is

hal

يَسْتَوِى

equal

yastawī

ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ

the blind

l-aʿmā

وَٱلْبَصِيرُ

and the seeing

wal-baṣīru

أَمْ

Or

am

هَلْ

is

hal

تَسْتَوِى

equal

tastawī

ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتُ

the darkness[es]

l-ẓulumātu

وَٱلنُّورُ ۗ

and the light

wal-nūru

أَمْ

Or

am

جَعَلُوا۟

they attribute

jaʿalū

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

شُرَكَآءَ

partners

shurakāa

خَلَقُوا۟

who created

khalaqū

كَخَلْقِهِۦ

like His creation

kakhalqihi

فَتَشَـٰبَهَ

so that seemed alike

fatashābaha

ٱلْخَلْقُ

the creation

l-khalqu

عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ

to them

ʿalayhim

قُلِ

Say

quli

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

خَـٰلِقُ

(is) the Creator

كُلِّ

of all

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

things

shayin

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

ٱلْوَٰحِدُ

(is) the One

l-wāḥidu

ٱلْقَهَّـٰرُ

the Irresistible

l-qahāru

١٦

Say, "Who is Lord of the heavens and earth?" Say, "Allāh." Say, "Have you then taken besides Him allies not possessing [even] for themselves any benefit or any harm?" Say, "Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Or is darkness equivalent to light? Or have they attributed to Allāh partners who created like His creation so that the creation [of each] seemed similar to them?"1 Say, "Allāh is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Prevailing."2

— Saheeh International

أَنزَلَ

He sends down

anzala

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

مَآءًۭ

water

māan

فَسَالَتْ

and flows

fasālat

أَوْدِيَةٌۢ

the valleys

awdiyatun

بِقَدَرِهَا

according to their measure

biqadarihā

فَٱحْتَمَلَ

and carries

fa-iḥ'tamala

ٱلسَّيْلُ

the torrent

l-saylu

زَبَدًۭا

a foam

zabadan

رَّابِيًۭا ۚ

rising

rābiyan

وَمِمَّا

And from what

wamimmā

يُوقِدُونَ

they heat

yūqidūna

عَلَيْهِ

[on] it

ʿalayhi

فِى

in

ٱلنَّارِ

the fire

l-nāri

ٱبْتِغَآءَ

in order to make

ib'tighāa

حِلْيَةٍ

ornaments

ḥil'yatin

أَوْ

or

aw

مَتَـٰعٍۢ

utensils

matāʿin

زَبَدٌۭ

a foam

zabadun

مِّثْلُهُۥ ۚ

like it

mith'luhu

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

يَضْرِبُ

sets forth

yaḍribu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

ٱلْحَقَّ

the truth

l-ḥaqa

وَٱلْبَـٰطِلَ ۚ

and the falsehood

wal-bāṭila

فَأَمَّا

Then as for

fa-ammā

ٱلزَّبَدُ

the foam

l-zabadu

فَيَذْهَبُ

it passes away

fayadhhabu

جُفَآءًۭ ۖ

(as) scum

jufāan

وَأَمَّا

and as for

wa-ammā

مَا

what

يَنفَعُ

benefits

yanfaʿu

ٱلنَّاسَ

the mankind

l-nāsa

فَيَمْكُثُ

remains

fayamkuthu

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ

the earth

l-arḍi

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

يَضْرِبُ

Allah sets forth

yaḍribu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah sets forth

l-lahu

ٱلْأَمْثَالَ

the examples

l-amthāla

١٧

He sends down from the sky, rain, and valleys flow according to their capacity, and the torrent carries a rising foam. And from that [ore] which they heat in the fire, desiring adornments and utensils, is a foam like it. Thus Allāh presents [the example of] truth and falsehood. As for the foam, it vanishes, [being] cast off; but as for that which benefits the people, it remains on the earth. Thus does Allāh present examples.

— Saheeh International

لِلَّذِينَ

For those who

lilladhīna

ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟

responded

is'tajābū

لِرَبِّهِمُ

to their Lord

lirabbihimu

ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ

(is) the bliss

l-ḥus'nā

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And for those who

wa-alladhīna

لَمْ

(did) not

lam

يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟

respond

yastajībū

لَهُۥ

to Him

lahu

لَوْ

if

law

أَنَّ

that

anna

لَهُم

they had

lahum

مَّا

whatever

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

جَمِيعًۭا

all

jamīʿan

وَمِثْلَهُۥ

and like of it

wamith'lahu

مَعَهُۥ

with it

maʿahu

لَٱفْتَدَوْا۟

surely they would offer ransom

la-if'tadaw

بِهِۦٓ ۚ

with it

bihi

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

سُوٓءُ

(is) a terrible

sūu

ٱلْحِسَابِ

reckoning

l-ḥisābi

وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْ

and their abode

wamawāhum

جَهَنَّمُ ۖ

(is) Hell

jahannamu

وَبِئْسَ

and wretched

wabi'sa

ٱلْمِهَادُ

(is) the resting place

l-mihādu

١٨

For those who have responded to their Lord is the best [reward], but those who did not respond to Him - if they had all that is in the earth entirely and the like of it with it, they would [attempt to] ransom themselves thereby. Those will have the worst account, and their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.

— Saheeh International

۞ أَفَمَن

Then is (he) who

afaman

يَعْلَمُ

knows

yaʿlamu

أَنَّمَآ

that which

annamā

أُنزِلَ

has been revealed

unzila

إِلَيْكَ

to you

ilayka

مِن

from

min

رَّبِّكَ

your Lord

rabbika

ٱلْحَقُّ

(is) the truth

l-ḥaqu

كَمَنْ

like (one) who

kaman

هُوَ

[he]

huwa

أَعْمَىٰٓ ۚ

(is) blind

aʿmā

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

يَتَذَكَّرُ

pay heed

yatadhakkaru

أُو۟لُوا۟

men

ulū

ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ

(of) understanding

l-albābi

١٩

Then is he who knows that what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth like one who is blind? They will only be reminded who are people of understanding -

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

يُوفُونَ

fulfill

yūfūna

بِعَهْدِ

the covenant

biʿahdi

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَلَا

and not

walā

يَنقُضُونَ

they break

yanquḍūna

ٱلْمِيثَـٰقَ

the contract

l-mīthāqa

٢٠

Those who fulfill the covenant of Allāh and do not break the contract,

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

يَصِلُونَ

join

yaṣilūna

مَآ

what

أَمَرَ

(has been) commanded

amara

ٱللَّهُ

(by) Allah

l-lahu

بِهِۦٓ

[for it]

bihi

أَن

to

an

يُوصَلَ

be joined

yūṣala

وَيَخْشَوْنَ

and fear

wayakhshawna

رَبَّهُمْ

their Lord

rabbahum

وَيَخَافُونَ

and are afraid

wayakhāfūna

سُوٓءَ

(of) the evil

sūa

ٱلْحِسَابِ

the account

l-ḥisābi

٢١

And those who join that which Allāh has ordered to be joined1 and fear their Lord and are afraid of the evil of [their] account,

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

صَبَرُوا۟

(are) patient

ṣabarū

ٱبْتِغَآءَ

seeking

ib'tighāa

وَجْهِ

(the) Face

wajhi

رَبِّهِمْ

(of) their Lord

rabbihim

وَأَقَامُوا۟

and establish

wa-aqāmū

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

the prayer

l-ṣalata

وَأَنفَقُوا۟

and spend

wa-anfaqū

مِمَّا

from what

mimmā

رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ

We have provided them

razaqnāhum

سِرًّۭا

secretly

sirran

وَعَلَانِيَةًۭ

and publicly

waʿalāniyatan

وَيَدْرَءُونَ

and they repel

wayadraūna

بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ

with the good

bil-ḥasanati

ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ

the evil

l-sayi-ata

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

those

ulāika

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

عُقْبَى

(is) the final attainment

ʿuq'bā

ٱلدَّارِ

(of) the Home

l-dāri

٢٢

And those who are patient, seeking the face [i.e., acceptance] of their Lord, and establish prayer and spend from what We have provided for them secretly and publicly and prevent evil with good - those will have the good consequence of [this] home1 -

— Saheeh International

جَنَّـٰتُ

Gardens

jannātu

عَدْنٍۢ

of Eden

ʿadnin

يَدْخُلُونَهَا

they will enter them

yadkhulūnahā

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

صَلَحَ

(were) righteous

ṣalaḥa

مِنْ

among

min

ءَابَآئِهِمْ

their fathers

ābāihim

وَأَزْوَٰجِهِمْ

and their spouses

wa-azwājihim

وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِهِمْ ۖ

and their offsprings

wadhurriyyātihim

وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ

And the Angels

wal-malāikatu

يَدْخُلُونَ

will enter

yadkhulūna

عَلَيْهِم

upon them

ʿalayhim

مِّن

from

min

كُلِّ

every

kulli

بَابٍۢ

gate

bābin

٢٣

Gardens of perpetual residence; they will enter them with whoever were righteous among their forefathers, their spouses and their descendants. And the angels will enter upon them from every gate, [saying],

— Saheeh International

سَلَـٰمٌ

(Saying), "Peace

salāmun

عَلَيْكُم

(be) upon you

ʿalaykum

بِمَا

for what

bimā

صَبَرْتُمْ ۚ

you patiently endured

ṣabartum

فَنِعْمَ

And excellent

faniʿ'ma

عُقْبَى

(is) the final attainment

ʿuq'bā

ٱلدَّارِ

(of) the Home

l-dāri

٢٤

"Peace [i.e., security] be upon you for what you patiently endured. And excellent is the final home."

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

يَنقُضُونَ

break

yanquḍūna

عَهْدَ

the covenant

ʿahda

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

مِنۢ

from

min

بَعْدِ

after

baʿdi

مِيثَـٰقِهِۦ

contracting it

mīthāqihi

وَيَقْطَعُونَ

and sever

wayaqṭaʿūna

مَآ

what

أَمَرَ

(has been) commanded

amara

ٱللَّهُ

(by) Allah

l-lahu

بِهِۦٓ

for it

bihi

أَن

to

an

يُوصَلَ

be joined

yūṣala

وَيُفْسِدُونَ

and spread corruption

wayuf'sidūna

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ ۙ

the earth

l-arḍi

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

لَهُمُ

for them

lahumu

ٱللَّعْنَةُ

(is) the curse

l-laʿnatu

وَلَهُمْ

and for them

walahum

سُوٓءُ

(is) an evil

sūu

ٱلدَّارِ

home

l-dāri

٢٥

But those who break the covenant of Allāh after contracting it and sever that which Allāh has ordered to be joined and spread corruption on earth - for them is the curse, and they will have the worst home.1

— Saheeh International

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

al-lahu

يَبْسُطُ

extends

yabsuṭu

ٱلرِّزْقَ

the provision

l-riz'qa

لِمَن

for whom

liman

يَشَآءُ

He wills

yashāu

وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ

and restricts

wayaqdiru

وَفَرِحُوا۟

And they rejoice

wafariḥū

بِٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

in the life

bil-ḥayati

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَمَا

and nothing

wamā

ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ

(is) the life

l-ḥayatu

ٱلدُّنْيَا

of the world

l-dun'yā

فِى

in (comparison to)

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَتَـٰعٌۭ

an enjoyment

matāʿun

٢٦

Allāh extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. And they rejoice in the worldly life, while the worldly life is not, compared to the Hereafter, except [brief] enjoyment.

— Saheeh International

وَيَقُولُ

And say

wayaqūlu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

لَوْلَآ

Why has not

lawlā

أُنزِلَ

been sent down

unzila

عَلَيْهِ

upon him

ʿalayhi

ءَايَةٌۭ

a Sign

āyatun

مِّن

from

min

رَّبِّهِۦ ۗ

his Lord

rabbihi

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يُضِلُّ

lets go astray

yuḍillu

مَن

whom

man

يَشَآءُ

He wills

yashāu

وَيَهْدِىٓ

and guides

wayahdī

إِلَيْهِ

to Himself

ilayhi

مَنْ

whoever

man

أَنَابَ

turns back

anāba

٢٧

And those who disbelieved say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, [O Muḥammad], "Indeed, Allāh leaves astray whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back [to Him] -

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

وَتَطْمَئِنُّ

and find satisfaction

wataṭma-innu

قُلُوبُهُم

their hearts

qulūbuhum

بِذِكْرِ

in the remembrance

bidhik'ri

ٱللَّهِ ۗ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

أَلَا

No doubt

alā

بِذِكْرِ

in the remembrance

bidhik'ri

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

تَطْمَئِنُّ

find satisfaction

taṭma-innu

ٱلْقُلُوبُ

the hearts

l-qulūbu

٢٨

Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allāh. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allāh hearts are assured."

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and did

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

طُوبَىٰ

blessedness

ṭūbā

لَهُمْ

(is) for them

lahum

وَحُسْنُ

and a beautiful

waḥus'nu

مَـَٔابٍۢ

place of return

maābin

٢٩

Those who have believed and done righteous deeds - a good state is theirs and a good return.

— Saheeh International

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ

We have sent you

arsalnāka

فِىٓ

to

أُمَّةٍۢ

a nation

ummatin

قَدْ

verily

qad

خَلَتْ

have passed away

khalat

مِن

from

min

قَبْلِهَآ

before it

qablihā

أُمَمٌۭ

nations

umamun

لِّتَتْلُوَا۟

so that you might recite

litatluwā

عَلَيْهِمُ

to them

ʿalayhimu

ٱلَّذِىٓ

what

alladhī

أَوْحَيْنَآ

We revealed

awḥaynā

إِلَيْكَ

to you

ilayka

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

يَكْفُرُونَ

disbelieve

yakfurūna

بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۚ

in the Most Gracious

bil-raḥmāni

قُلْ

Say

qul

هُوَ

He

huwa

رَبِّى

(is) my Lord

rabbī

لَآ

(there is) no

إِلَـٰهَ

god

ilāha

إِلَّا

except

illā

هُوَ

Him

huwa

عَلَيْهِ

Upon Him

ʿalayhi

تَوَكَّلْتُ

I put my trust

tawakkaltu

وَإِلَيْهِ

and to Him

wa-ilayhi

مَتَابِ

(is) my return

matābi

٣٠

Thus have We sent you to a community before which [other] communities have passed on so you might recite to them that which We revealed to you, while they disbelieve in the Most Merciful. Say, "He is my Lord; there is no deity except Him. Upon Him I rely, and to Him is my return."

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

أَنَّ

that was

قُرْءَانًۭا

any Quran

qur'ānan

سُيِّرَتْ

could be moved

suyyirat

بِهِ

by it

bihi

ٱلْجِبَالُ

the mountains

l-jibālu

أَوْ

or

aw

قُطِّعَتْ

could be cloven asunder

quṭṭiʿat

بِهِ

by it

bihi

ٱلْأَرْضُ

the earth

l-arḍu

أَوْ

or

aw

كُلِّمَ

could be made to speak

kullima

بِهِ

by it

bihi

ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ ۗ

the dead

l-mawtā

بَل

Nay

bal

لِّلَّهِ

with Allah

lillahi

ٱلْأَمْرُ

(is) the command

l-amru

جَمِيعًا ۗ

all

jamīʿan

أَفَلَمْ

Then do not

afalam

يَا۟يْـَٔسِ

know

yāy'asi

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوٓا۟

believe

āmanū

أَن

that

an

لَّوْ

if

law

يَشَآءُ

had willed

yashāu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

لَهَدَى

surely, He would have guided

lahadā

ٱلنَّاسَ

all

l-nāsa

جَمِيعًۭا ۗ

all of the mankind

jamīʿan

وَلَا

And not

walā

يَزَالُ

will cease

yazālu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

تُصِيبُهُم

to strike them

tuṣībuhum

بِمَا

for what

bimā

صَنَعُوا۟

they did

ṣanaʿū

قَارِعَةٌ

a disaster

qāriʿatun

أَوْ

or

aw

تَحُلُّ

it settles

taḥullu

قَرِيبًۭا

close

qarīban

مِّن

from

min

دَارِهِمْ

their homes

dārihim

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

يَأْتِىَ

comes

yatiya

وَعْدُ

(the) promise

waʿdu

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَا

(will) not

يُخْلِفُ

fail

yukh'lifu

ٱلْمِيعَادَ

(in) the Promise

l-mīʿāda

٣١

And if there was any Qur’ān [i.e., recitation] by which the mountains would be removed or the earth would be broken apart or the dead would be made to speak,1 [it would be this Qur’ān], but to Allāh belongs the affair entirely. Then have those who believed not accepted that had Allāh willed, He would have guided the people, all of them? And those who disbelieve do not cease to be struck, for what they have done, by calamity - or it will descend near their home - until there comes the promise of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh does not fail in [His] promise.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدِ

And certainly

walaqadi

ٱسْتُهْزِئَ

were mocked

us'tuh'zi-a

بِرُسُلٍۢ

Messengers

birusulin

مِّن

from

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

فَأَمْلَيْتُ

but I granted respite

fa-amlaytu

لِلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

أَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖ

I seized them

akhadhtuhum

فَكَيْفَ

and how

fakayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عِقَابِ

My penalty

ʿiqābi

٣٢

And already were [other] messengers ridiculed before you, and I extended the time of those who disbelieved; then I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty.

— Saheeh International

أَفَمَنْ

Is then He Who

afaman

هُوَ

(He)

huwa

قَآئِمٌ

(is) a Maintainer

qāimun

عَلَىٰ

of

ʿalā

كُلِّ

every

kulli

نَفْسٍۭ

soul

nafsin

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَسَبَتْ ۗ

it has earned

kasabat

وَجَعَلُوا۟

Yet they ascribe

wajaʿalū

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

شُرَكَآءَ

partners

shurakāa

قُلْ

Say

qul

سَمُّوهُمْ ۚ

Name them

sammūhum

أَمْ

Or

am

تُنَبِّـُٔونَهُۥ

(do) you inform Him

tunabbiūnahu

بِمَا

of what

bimā

لَا

not

يَعْلَمُ

He knows

yaʿlamu

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

أَم

or

am

بِظَـٰهِرٍۢ

of the apparent

biẓāhirin

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلْقَوْلِ ۗ

the words

l-qawli

بَلْ

Nay

bal

زُيِّنَ

(is) made fair-seeming

zuyyina

لِلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

مَكْرُهُمْ

their plotting

makruhum

وَصُدُّوا۟

and they are hindered

waṣuddū

عَنِ

from

ʿani

ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۗ

the Path

l-sabīli

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يُضْلِلِ

(by) Allah

yuḍ'lili

ٱللَّهُ

Allah lets go astray

l-lahu

فَمَا

then not

famā

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

مِنْ

any

min

هَادٍۢ

guide

hādin

٣٣

Then is He who is a maintainer of every soul, [knowing] what it has earned, [like any other]? But to Allāh they have attributed partners. Say, "Name them. Or do you inform Him of that1 which He knows not upon the earth or of what is apparent [i.e., alleged] of speech?"2 Rather, their [own] plan has been made attractive to those who disbelieve, and they have been averted from the way. And whomever Allāh sends astray - there will be for him no guide.

— Saheeh International

لَّهُمْ

For them

lahum

عَذَابٌۭ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

فِى

in

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

the life

l-ḥayati

ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَلَعَذَابُ

and surely the punishment

walaʿadhābu

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

(of) the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

أَشَقُّ ۖ

(is) harder

ashaqqu

وَمَا

And not

wamā

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مِّنَ

against

mina

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مِن

any

min

وَاقٍۢ

defender

wāqin

٣٤

For them will be punishment in the life of [this] world, and the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe. And they will not have from Allāh any protector.

— Saheeh International

۞ مَّثَلُ

The example

mathalu

ٱلْجَنَّةِ

of Paradise

l-janati

ٱلَّتِى

which

allatī

وُعِدَ

(is) promised

wuʿida

ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ

(to) the righteous

l-mutaqūna

تَجْرِى

flows

tajrī

مِن

from

min

تَحْتِهَا

underneath it

taḥtihā

ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ

the rivers

l-anhāru

أُكُلُهَا

Its food

ukuluhā

دَآئِمٌۭ

(is) everlasting

dāimun

وَظِلُّهَا ۚ

and its shade

waẓilluhā

تِلْكَ

This

til'ka

عُقْبَى

(is the) end

ʿuq'bā

ٱلَّذِينَ

of those who

alladhīna

ٱتَّقَوا۟ ۖ

(are) righteous

ittaqaw

وَّعُقْبَى

and (the) end

waʿuq'bā

ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

(of) the disbelievers

l-kāfirīna

ٱلنَّارُ

(is) the Fire

l-nāru

٣٥

The example [i.e., description] of Paradise, which the righteous have been promised, is [that] beneath it rivers flow. Its fruit is lasting, and its shade. That is the consequence for the righteous, and the consequence for the disbelievers is the Fire.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those (to) whom

wa-alladhīna

ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ

We have given them

ātaynāhumu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

يَفْرَحُونَ

rejoice

yafraḥūna

بِمَآ

at what

bimā

أُنزِلَ

has been revealed

unzila

إِلَيْكَ ۖ

to you

ilayka

وَمِنَ

but among

wamina

ٱلْأَحْزَابِ

the groups

l-aḥzābi

مَن

(those) who

man

يُنكِرُ

deny

yunkiru

بَعْضَهُۥ ۚ

a part of it

baʿḍahu

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنَّمَآ

Only

innamā

أُمِرْتُ

I have been commanded

umir'tu

أَنْ

that

an

أَعْبُدَ

I worship

aʿbuda

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَلَآ

and not

walā

أُشْرِكَ

I associate partners

ush'rika

بِهِۦٓ ۚ

with Him

bihi

إِلَيْهِ

To Him

ilayhi

أَدْعُوا۟

I call

adʿū

وَإِلَيْهِ

and to Him

wa-ilayhi

مَـَٔابِ

(is) my return

maābi

٣٦

And [the believers among] those to whom We have given the [previous] Scripture rejoice at what has been revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], but among the [opposing] factions are those who deny part of it [i.e., the Qur’ān]. Say, "I have only been commanded to worship Allāh and not associate [anything] with Him. To Him I invite, and to Him is my return."

— Saheeh International

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ

We have revealed it

anzalnāhu

حُكْمًا

(to be) a judgment of authority

ḥuk'man

عَرَبِيًّۭا ۚ

(in) Arabic

ʿarabiyyan

وَلَئِنِ

And if

wala-ini

ٱتَّبَعْتَ

you follow

ittabaʿta

أَهْوَآءَهُم

their desires

ahwāahum

بَعْدَ مَا

after what

baʿdamā

جَآءَكَ

came to you

jāaka

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْعِلْمِ

the knowledge

l-ʿil'mi

مَا

not

لَكَ

for you

laka

مِنَ

against

mina

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مِن

any

min

وَلِىٍّۢ

protector

waliyyin

وَلَا

and not

walā

وَاقٍۢ

defender

wāqin

٣٧

And thus We have revealed it as an Arabic legislation.1 And if you should follow their inclinations after what has come to you of knowledge, you would not have against Allāh any ally or any protector.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

رُسُلًۭا

Messengers

rusulan

مِّن

from

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

وَجَعَلْنَا

and We made

wajaʿalnā

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

أَزْوَٰجًۭا

wives

azwājan

وَذُرِّيَّةًۭ ۚ

and offspring

wadhurriyyatan

وَمَا

And not

wamā

كَانَ

was

kāna

لِرَسُولٍ

for a Messenger

lirasūlin

أَن

that

an

يَأْتِىَ

he comes

yatiya

بِـَٔايَةٍ

with a sign

biāyatin

إِلَّا

except

illā

بِإِذْنِ

by the leave

bi-idh'ni

ٱللَّهِ ۗ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

لِكُلِّ

For everything

likulli

أَجَلٍۢ

(is) a time

ajalin

كِتَابٌۭ

prescribed

kitābun

٣٨

And We have already sent messengers before you and assigned to them wives and descendants. And it was not for a messenger to come with a sign except by permission of Allāh. For every term is a decree.

— Saheeh International

يَمْحُوا۟

(Is) eliminated

yamḥū

ٱللَّهُ

(by) Allah

l-lahu

مَا

what

يَشَآءُ

He wills

yashāu

وَيُثْبِتُ ۖ

and confirms

wayuth'bitu

وَعِندَهُۥٓ

and with Him

waʿindahu

أُمُّ

(is) the Mother (of) the Book

ummu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

(is) the Mother (of) the Book

l-kitābi

٣٩

Allāh eliminates what He wills or confirms, and with Him is the Mother of the Book.1

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

And whether

wa-in

مَّا

(what)

نُرِيَنَّكَ

We show you

nuriyannaka

بَعْضَ

a part

baʿḍa

ٱلَّذِى

(of) what

alladhī

نَعِدُهُمْ

We have promised them

naʿiduhum

أَوْ

or

aw

نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ

We cause you to die

natawaffayannaka

فَإِنَّمَا

so only

fa-innamā

عَلَيْكَ

on you

ʿalayka

ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ

(is) the conveyance

l-balāghu

وَعَلَيْنَا

and on Us

waʿalaynā

ٱلْحِسَابُ

(is) the reckoning

l-ḥisābu

٤٠

And whether We show you part of what We promise them or take you in death, upon you is only the [duty of] notification, and upon Us is the account.

— Saheeh International

أَوَلَمْ

Did not

awalam

يَرَوْا۟

they see

yaraw

أَنَّا

that We

annā

نَأْتِى

come

natī

ٱلْأَرْضَ

(to) the land

l-arḍa

نَنقُصُهَا

reducing it

nanquṣuhā

مِنْ

from

min

أَطْرَافِهَا ۚ

its borders

aṭrāfihā

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

يَحْكُمُ

judges

yaḥkumu

لَا

(there is) no

مُعَقِّبَ

adjuster

muʿaqqiba

لِحُكْمِهِۦ ۚ

(of) His Judgment

liḥuk'mihi

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

سَرِيعُ

(is) Swift

sarīʿu

ٱلْحِسَابِ

(in) the reckoning

l-ḥisābi

٤١

Have they not seen that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders?1 And Allāh decides; there is no adjuster of His decision. And He is swift in account.

— Saheeh International

وَقَدْ

And certainly

waqad

مَكَرَ

plotted

makara

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

مِن

(were) from

min

قَبْلِهِمْ

before them

qablihim

فَلِلَّهِ

but for Allah

falillahi

ٱلْمَكْرُ

(is) the plot

l-makru

جَمِيعًۭا ۖ

all

jamīʿan

يَعْلَمُ

He knows

yaʿlamu

مَا

what

تَكْسِبُ

earns

taksibu

كُلُّ

every

kullu

نَفْسٍۢ ۗ

soul

nafsin

وَسَيَعْلَمُ

and will know

wasayaʿlamu

ٱلْكُفَّـٰرُ

the disbelievers

l-kufāru

لِمَنْ

for whom

liman

عُقْبَى

(is) the final

ʿuq'bā

ٱلدَّارِ

the home

l-dāri

٤٢

And those before them had plotted, but to Allāh belongs the plan entirely. He knows what every soul earns, and the disbelievers will know for whom is the final home.

— Saheeh International

وَيَقُولُ

And say

wayaqūlu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

لَسْتَ

You are not

lasta

مُرْسَلًۭا ۚ

a Messenger

mur'salan

قُلْ

Say

qul

كَفَىٰ

Sufficient

kafā

بِٱللَّهِ

(is) Allah

bil-lahi

شَهِيدًۢا

(as) a Witness

shahīdan

بَيْنِى

between me

baynī

وَبَيْنَكُمْ

and between you

wabaynakum

وَمَنْ

and whoever

waman

عِندَهُۥ

[he] has

ʿindahu

عِلْمُ

knowledge

ʿil'mu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

(of) the Book

l-kitābi

٤٣

And those who have disbelieved say, "You are not a messenger." Say, [O Muḥammad], "Sufficient is Allāh as Witness between me and you, and [the witness of] whoever has knowledge of the Scripture."1

— Saheeh International
