وَقَالَ And said waqāla the one who alladhī bought him ish'tarāhu of min Egypt miṣ'ra to his wife li-im'ra-atihi Make comfortable akrimī his stay mathwāhu Perhaps ʿasā that an (he) will benefit us yanfaʿanā or aw we will take him nattakhidhahu (as) a son waladan And thus wakadhālika We established makkannā Yusuf liyūsufa in fī the land l-arḍi that We might teach him walinuʿallimahu (the) interpretation of min (the) interpretation of tawīli the events l-aḥādīthi And Allah wal-lahu (is) Predominant ghālibun over ʿalā His affairs amrihi but walākinna most akthara (of) the people l-nāsi (do) not lā know yaʿlamūna
And the one from Egypt1 who bought him said to his wife, "Make his residence comfortable. Perhaps he will benefit us, or we will adopt him as a son." And thus, We established Joseph in the land that We might teach him the interpretation of events [i.e., dreams]. And Allāh is predominant over His affair, but most of the people do not know.
