۞ وَقَالَ And said waqāla women nis'watun in fī the city l-madīnati The wife of im'ra-atu Aziz l-ʿazīzi (is) seeking to seduce turāwidu her slave boy fatāhā about ʿan himself nafsihi indeed qad he has impassioned her shaghafahā (with) love ḥubban Indeed, we innā [we] surely see her lanarāhā in fī an error ḍalālin clear mubīnin
And women in the city said, "The wife of al-ʿAzeez is seeking to seduce her slave boy; he has impassioned her with love. Indeed, we see her [to be] in clear error."
فَلَمَّا So when falammā she heard samiʿat of their scheming bimakrihinna she sent arsalat for them ilayhinna and she prepared wa-aʿtadat for them lahunna a banquet muttaka-an and she gave waātat each kulla one wāḥidatin of them min'hunna a knife sikkīnan and she said waqālati Come out ukh'ruj before them ʿalayhinna Then when falammā they saw him ra-aynahu they greatly admired him akbarnahu and cut waqaṭṭaʿna their hands aydiyahunna they said waqul'na Forbid ḥāsha Allah lillahi not mā (is) this hādhā a man basharan not in (is) this hādhā but illā an angel malakun noble karīmun
So when she heard of their scheming, she sent for them and prepared for them a banquet and gave each one of them a knife and said [to Joseph], "Come out before them." And when they saw him, they greatly admired him and cut their hands and said, "Perfect is Allāh! This is not a man; this is none but a noble angel."
قَالَتْ She said qālat That fadhālikunna (is) the one alladhī you blamed me lum'tunnanī about him fīhi And certainly walaqad I sought to seduce him rāwadttuhu [from] ʿan [himself] nafsihi but he saved himself fa-is'taʿṣama and if wala-in not lam he does yafʿal what mā I order him āmuruhu surely, he will be imprisoned layus'jananna and certainly will be walayakūnan of mina those who are disgraced l-ṣāghirīna
She said, "That is the one about whom you blamed me. And I certainly sought to seduce him, but he firmly refused; and if he will not do what I order him, he will surely be imprisoned and will be of those debased."
قَالَ He said qāla My Lord rabbi the prison l-sij'nu (is) dearer aḥabbu to me ilayya than what mimmā they invite me yadʿūnanī to it ilayhi And unless wa-illā You turn away taṣrif from me ʿannī their plot kaydahunna I might incline aṣbu towards them ilayhinna and [I] be wa-akun of mina the ignorant l-jāhilīna
He said, "My Lord, prison is more to my liking than that to which they invite me. And if You do not avert from me their plan, I might incline toward them and [thus] be of the ignorant."
فَٱسْتَجَابَ So responded fa-is'tajāba to him lahu his Lord rabbuhu and turned away faṣarafa from him ʿanhu their plot kaydahunna Indeed, [He] innahu He huwa (is) All-Hearer l-samīʿu All-Knower l-ʿalīmu
So his Lord responded to him and averted from him their plan. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
