وَجَآءُوٓ And they came wajāū (to) their father abāhum early at night ʿishāan weeping yabkūna
And they came to their father at night, weeping.
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū O our father yāabānā Indeed, we innā [we] went dhahabnā racing each other nastabiqu and we left wataraknā Yusuf yūsufa with ʿinda our possessions matāʿinā and ate him fa-akalahu the wolf l-dhi'bu But not wamā you anta (will) believe bimu'minin us lanā even if walaw we are kunnā truthful ṣādiqīna
They said, "O our father, indeed we went racing each other and left Joseph with our possessions, and a wolf ate him. But you would not believe us, even if we were truthful."
وَجَآءُو And they brought wajāū upon ʿalā his shirt qamīṣihi with false blood bidamin with false blood kadhibin He said qāla Nay bal has enticed you sawwalat has enticed you lakum your souls anfusukum (to) a matter amran so patience faṣabrun (is) beautiful jamīlun And Allah wal-lahu (is) the One sought for help l-mus'taʿānu against ʿalā what mā you describe taṣifūna
And they brought upon his shirt false blood. [Jacob] said, "Rather, your souls have enticed you to something, so patience is most fitting. And Allāh is the one sought for help against that which you describe."
