فَقَالَ So said faqāla the chiefs l-mala-u (of) those who alladhīna disbelieved kafarū from min his people qawmihi Not mā we see you narāka but illā a man basharan like us mith'lanā and not wamā we see you narāka followed [you] ittabaʿaka except illā those who alladhīna [they] hum (are) the lowest of us arādhilunā immature in opinion bādiya immature in opinion l-rayi And not wamā we see narā in you lakum over us ʿalaynā any min merit faḍlin nay bal we think you naẓunnukum (are) liars kādhibīna
So the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "We do not see you but as a man like ourselves, and we do not see you followed except by those who are the lowest of us [and] at first suggestion.1 And we do not see in you over us any merit; rather, we think you are liars."
