إِنَّمَا Only innamā (the) example mathalu (of) the life l-ḥayati (of) the world l-dun'yā (is) like (the) water kamāin which We sent down anzalnāhu from mina the sky l-samāi so absorbs fa-ikh'talaṭa [with] it bihi (the) plants nabātu (of) the earth l-arḍi from which mimmā eat yakulu the men l-nāsu and the cattle wal-anʿāmu until ḥattā when idhā takes akhadhati the earth l-arḍu its adornment zukh'rufahā and is beautified wa-izzayyanat and think waẓanna its people ahluhā that they annahum have the power qādirūna over it ʿalayhā comes (to) it atāhā Our command amrunā (by) night laylan or aw (by) day nahāran and We make it fajaʿalnāhā a harvest clean-mown ḥaṣīdan as if ka-an not lam it had flourished taghna yesterday bil-amsi Thus kadhālika We explain nufaṣṣilu the Signs l-āyāti for a people liqawmin who reflect yatafakkarūna
The example of [this] worldly life is but like rain which We have sent down from the sky that the plants of the earth absorb - [those] from which men and livestock eat - until, when the earth has taken on its adornment and is beautified and its people suppose that they have capability over it, there comes to it Our command by night or by day, and We make it as a harvest,1 as if it had not flourished yesterday. Thus do We explain in detail the signs for a people who give thought.
