وَإِذَآ And when wa-idhā We let [the] mankind taste adhaqnā We let [the] mankind taste l-nāsa mercy raḥmatan after min after baʿdi adversity ḍarrāa has touched them massathum behold idhā They have lahum a plot makrun against fī Our Verses āyātinā Say quli Allah l-lahu (is) more swift asraʿu (in) planning makran Indeed inna Our Messengers rusulanā write down yaktubūna what mā you plot tamkurūna
And when We give the people a taste of mercy after adversity has touched them, at once they conspire against Our verses. Say, "Allāh is swifter in strategy." Indeed, Our messengers [i.e., angels] record that which you conspire.
هُوَ He huwa (is) the One Who alladhī enables you to travel yusayyirukum in fī the land l-bari and the sea wal-baḥri until ḥattā when idhā you are kuntum in fī the ships l-ful'ki and they sail wajarayna with them bihim with a wind birīḥin good ṭayyibatin and they rejoice wafariḥū therein bihā comes to it jāathā a wind rīḥun stormy ʿāṣifun and comes to them wajāahumu the waves l-mawju from min every kulli place makānin and they assume waẓannū that they annahum are surrounded uḥīṭa with them bihim They call daʿawū Allah l-laha sincerely mukh'liṣīna to Him lahu (in) the religion l-dīna (saying), "If la-in You save us anjaytanā from min this hādhihi surely we will be lanakūnanna among mina the thankful l-shākirīna
It is He who enables you to travel on land and sea until, when you are in ships and they sail with them by a good wind and they rejoice therein, there comes a storm wind and the waves come upon them from every place and they expect to be engulfed, they supplicate Allāh, sincere to Him in religion, "If You should save us from this, we will surely be among the thankful."
فَلَمَّآ But when falammā He saved them anjāhum behold idhā They hum rebel yabghūna in fī the earth l-arḍi without bighayri [the] right l-ḥaqi O mankind yāayyuhā O mankind l-nāsu Only innamā your rebellion baghyukum (is) against ʿalā yourselves anfusikum (the) enjoyment matāʿa (of) the life l-ḥayati (of) the world l-dun'yā Then thumma to Us ilaynā (is) your return marjiʿukum and We will inform you fanunabbi-ukum of what bimā you used (to) kuntum do taʿmalūna
But when He saves them, at once they commit injustice upon the earth without right. O mankind, your injustice is only against yourselves, [being merely] the enjoyment of worldly life. Then to Us is your return, and We will inform you of what you used to do.
