Ashhadu Alla Ilaha Illa Allah Wa Ashhadu Anna Muhammad Rasulu Allah

Understanding the meaning of La ilaha illa-Allah

The phrase La ilaha illa-Allah is both a rejection and an affirmation. It rejects any other ‘God’ besides Allah, and affirms that Allah is the only one worthy of worship. This phrase is the foundation of Tawheed (Islamic Monotheism) and Islam.

Understanding the meaning of Muhammadan Rasullah

The phrase Muhammadan Rasullah encodes the belief the Muhammad ﷺ was sent as the last and final Messenger of Allah. Through this belief we also affirm that what he reported was truth, we obey him in what he commanded, and we worship Allah in the manor that he prescribed and taught.

This does not mean we over glorify him as the Christians over-glorified Jesus, son of Mary (peace be upon him).
